The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kai awoke from his nap bleary eyed, but happy. The conditions had been perfect for the past hour, the sun pooling on his bed so invitingly. He had also just finished another session of extended power use to transform the tree outside his window into the best fort ever. The desired branch was in the perfect position for them to step out onto it from their window. There was cover and protection from the rain, yet none of he overhanging branches encroached too far into Carrick's air space. The branch still needed to be expanded, and Kai was running into a slight hiccup in getting the branch to grow flatter, but he was confident that given time, he'd overcome this obstacle.
On his way back from the bathroom, he noticed a curiosity. A note taped to his door. Addressed to him. “Kai, please visit the PR Office at your earliest convenience. Personal, not business.” he read aloud so that his groggy brain had a greater chance of comprehending what it meant.
He shrugged. Now kind of was his earliest convenience, so he turned around and meandered back down the hallway. He was kind of curious what kind of personal business the RP Office could possibly have for him.
Kai located the office with little difficulty and held out the note with the very helpful clarification of: “I got this note.”
Garrett was looking at the financial section of the Times, reading about the current FDA approval of a drug being developed at Faust Pharmaceuticals. The article was mostly about the sharp rise in stock price and was speculating on whether or not the two events at the company were related. Something was afoot over there and he intended to sniff it out, either by daytime queries or nighttime investigations. Always plenty to do though, so he continued to work up a memo for the Mansion staff concerning MORA prospects.
As he was typing, he heard the door open and found a young man standing before him. The boy looked groggy and was holding a note out, appearing to be the one he had left on Kai's door. Rising from his seat and stepping around the desk, he greeted the sluggush individual. " Ah, you must be Kai. I'm glad you could stop by. I'm Garrett Wills, the Public Relations Director here at the Mansion. Please, have a seat." Taking a seat once the other did, he moved the newspaper and the things he was working on into a drawer, folding his hands and looking at the prospective client.
" I'm sure you are wondering what my personal business could be with you, considering we've never met. I read up on your gift and was wondering if I could contract you to do some work at my house. It's not too far away, perhaps a mile or two. I have a small estate with some land and would like more foliage. So you would be the one to speak to in the foliage department, I gather." He was quiet, waiting to hear what could come as a repsonse to his light query.
The younger boy nodded politely to Mr. Garrett Wills, the Public Relations Director and took the offered seat gratefully. He tried his very best to pay attention, but mostly it sounded like 'boring, boring, plants...' and then something caught his attention.
“You've read up on me?” he asked, wondering if the school really kept that detailed of records. [Maybe for insurance purposes or something he reasoned.
“Yeah, I can help you with some gardening stuff,” he said biting a nail. “Though I understand that that the mansion hires a gardener. He might be more qualified.” Truthfully, though, Kai would welcome the opportunity to make a little bit of extra cash. He was pretty strapped lately, all his assets having been tied up with his shop.
It appeared that the young man was generally bored with Garrett. Lots of people were until he got under their skin. Apparently the mention of reading up on him was the needed stimulus to get his attention. "You've read up on me?" The concept seemed alien to the plantmancer, so garrett explained. " Oh, yes. Anyone who lives in the Mansion has a file on them so we are aware both of their special needs as well as their gifts. Can't have mystery mutants running around. It could literally be deadly. Take Ghost, for instance. She is highly flammable in her gaseous form. If we had, say a fire elemental who happened to burst into flame when emotional, well, you can see why, I hope. Purely for safety and security." Of course, it didn't hurt to have running information on people either.
He was happy to see that the young man was so agreeable about the situation, though he was generally unaware of this gardener. Pretending to look at some important papers, which he wasn't really, he went fishing for the name of this person." Hmm, I haven't gotten the gardener's name. Do you know what his name is? Maybe he can do the maintenance after you've done your part." Scooting back in his chair and propping his feet up on the desk, he went on." I'm sure no gardener could do what you could. I can also pay you for your trouble. When would be a good time for you to go out there? We could leave now if you like or if you are busy, we can do it later?" Garrett was hoping for sooner.
“Ghost?” There was literally someone who was a ghost at the mansion? Kai resolved to meet more of his fellow students. Apparently some of them were quite interesting.
“Uh...” Kai searched his memory. “I think his name was Marve... or, no, it was Martin. At least I thought he was the gardener. I only met him once and we were... discussing other things.” He smiled a little. They had been distracted by getting hauled downtown by the police. Not exactly the time to exchange gardening tips. He was glad that he could look back and laugh at the experience now. It even seemed kind of trivial in the grand scheme of things.
The teen glanced down at his watc- ok, his wrist, since his watch seemed not to have made it back on her person. He shrugged, more awake now. “I'm free whenever. Though, I have to admit that if you have anything major in mind, I'm a little tapped out at the moment. But we could go survey the project and I could let you know how long things would take and an estimate.”
Kai was pleasantly surprised how easily he could still switch into 'business mode'. It had been such a long time since he'd done anything in an official capacity. He'd thought his store, his business, was completely ruined by the events of weeks past. Perhaps not all was lost, though. If he still had report with local businesses and potential customers, there was a chance that he could rebuild eventually. Or maybe even do more freelance work like this and like the work he did for Hunter. That didn't even seem to require premises.
