The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I got here a few months ago. But I've spent most of my time in classes so I don't get to meet many new people." So far everyone he'd met had been nice and he'd only seemed to see the people that were in his classes. He was just mainly glad that this time he was able to meet a few people that weren't in his classes. Teddy watched them discuss how to put in the ingredients. Cookies were great. It was good to know that he was going to get some cookies from someone that could cook after a while.
"But aside from classes it seems like I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out my powers." He wasn't going to explain his powers to them unless they asked. No matter how he much he practiced his powers, he still felt a little embarrassed about them. Probably because he was a guy that could turn into stuffed animals. And it probably made girls even more suspicious about their stuffed animals when they found out. He watched Elise stir the ingredients quickly like a pro, while Alina continued to add the ingredients to whatever she was stirring.
“I really like it here,” Alina responded, spooning the cookie dough onto a cookie sheet. “I really like getting to know all the people here and exploring. Are these the right size?” She asked Elise, indicating the cookie dough balls she was creating. She was dying to try these cookies now after all the effort to make them.
“I've been spending time trying to figure out my powers too. It doesn't leave much time for socializing.” She told Ted. If she was going to say just that, she might as well tell them what her powers were. She didn't like it when people gave little hints that forced you to ask a direct question to find out the answer. She liked to get to the point.
“I'm an octopus shifter. I really like my power, but it can be hard to control. I ink on people sometimes when I get emotional. One of the reasons I moved to New York was to learn to control my power.” Stai in silenzio!, she thought. Troppe informazioni. It was their turn to talk, not bore them to death with her troubles. She shut her mouth with an almost audible snap and went back to making cookie balls.
(Italian translation: Stai in silenzio! = Shut up, be quiet, Troppe informazioni = too much information.)
Elise smiled to herself as the others spoke of abilities and being in a new place. It was silly really, but sometimes Elise felt as though half the conversations in New York were over those sole two very subjects. Abilities, whether art or mutations were just as rampant and important in the city as the large immigrant population, not to mention the tourists.
She began to wash off dishes and bowls, as Alina placed the balls of dough on the sheet. Glancing over her shoulder at the other girl’s question, she peered down at them. “Perfect, absolutely perfect. Just be sure to keep all of them that far apart. We don’t want them to all grow together,” Elise said with an encouraging smile before returning to her work.
Having finished cleaning, Elise put the cookies into the pre-heated oven and set the timer. Quickly the warm, decadent smell of chocolate cookies began to permeate the room. Walking back to the other kids, Elise chuckled lightly at the girl’s comment before taking a seat. “Ah, I doubt a single one of us doesn’t have an embarrassing story or side-affect to our mutations,” she said, trying to make the other girl feel better, “I for one, had a poor boy suddenly decide to make out with me in front of my entire choir class. I can assure you, the wolf-whistles were rampant for afterwards, and my choir teacher never looked at me in the same way.”
"Try changing into a d-dinosaur accidentally in the middle of the street," Amber stated with a grimace. It seemed she wasn't the only one who had ever had problems controlling their powers. She'd only even known what she could do for a few months so, all things considered, she supposed she'd made a pretty impressive amount of progress. At least she could change and change back now. Usually.
"If you're an o-octopus shifter, can you b-breath under water?" Amber asked Alina curiously. She had recently come into possession of a particular water form that she had been meaning to try out for some time but just hadn't gotten around to it yet. So much the better if she could experiment in the company of someone she might consider a friend, or at the very least someone friendly.
Amber giggled at Elise's story. The way she said it led Amber to believe that she was over the probably thoroughly embarrassing and traumatic experience and the giggle was in no way meant maliciously. "I th-think its all part of being mutants," she agreed. "If nothing else it d-does make life more interesting."
Teddy didn't expect them to start talking about their powers right away. But then again what else was thereto talk about when you were in a room full of mutants that you've never met before. Alina was an octopus shifter. Very cool. He hadn't experimented with the possibility of using a water stuffed animal. Although Amber's curiosity about it also intrigued him. What was it that she could do? He wondered.
Elise's embarrassing story seemed to make him feel better about his story. He wondered what kind of reaction he'd get from this group of girls when they heard what he could do. Besides maybe by telling his power he'd learn what Elise and Amber could actually do. "So is it octopuses or octopi? I find changing so much fun. I can turn into stuffed animals. And before you ask... Long story short I'm never going into a crying girls room ever again." he said shuddering a little at the memory. Not pleasant.
Alina smiled as she remembered her own mutation stories. Those memories seemed so far away now. Another life in another place, far from here. She quickly snapped out of her memories and responded to the questions that were being asked of her.
“I can grow gills in my human form, so I can breathe under water. As an octopus I can breathe under water too. It comes in handy when I swim in the mansion pool.” Thinking for a moment, she turned to Ted. “Actually, octopi, octopuses and octopodes and all acceptable. The first two are the the most commonly used though.” She'd never been asked that before, but somehow she new the answer. Random trivia seemed to stick with her, but not test question answers. Sigh.
Ding! The timer went off on the stove. Alina rushed over and peered through the little window in the oven. “Are they done Elise?” She said excitedly. They smelled so good! She couldn't wait to take a bite of gooey cookie. Her mouth watered a bit at the thought. She felt like a little kid again.
“Ah and you beat me again with embarrassing stories,” Elise said in mock exasperation at Amber‘s own story, her smile clearly showing her joking tone. As she listened to the other students talk Elise subconsciously began to twiddle her thumbs. Really, what else was there to do? She also checked the progress of the cookies every couple of seconds by looking over her shoulder at the oven. They seemed to be coming along fairly well.
“Stuffed animals, really?” Elise asked intrigued. How cool was that? “So you can turn into a teddy bear and stuff? Well, no offence guys, but Teddy, I definitely vote you as having the coolest mutant power ever,” she said with a big smile as she stood up at the sound of the oven going off. She quickly dashed around the kitchen until she found a pair of oven mitts and cooling racks. Pulling out the cookies, she transferred them to the cooling sheets, where their aroma rose and spread around the room in an even more stomach-growling manner.
"They look lovely Alina,” Elise said glancing over all the little morsels of goodness. Pulling down some plates she glanced over she shoulder at the other students. “Who want’s to dig in?” she asked with a grin, her hands already transferring a couple to plates.
Stuffed animal shifting was certainly one of the most unusual powers Amber had heard of yet. Just when she thought she had heard about every power imaginable, she heard about another one that was even more bizarre than the last. Nothing wrong with it, of course, though she couldn't imagine it being much help in a fight. Still, every power had its uses.
"If you want t-to go swimming sometime I h-have a form I'd like to try out," Amber suggested to Alina. She was nervous about asking, not sure if the octopus woman would approve. "Its k-kind of like Loch Ness Monster. S-so I c-can't just use it in a pool."
The timer for the cookies dinged and Elise took them out of the oven, the delicious smell of baked goods infusing the room. "D-do you mind?" Amber asked, hesitantly extending a hand in order to acquire herself one of the treats.
They all seemed to be sufficiently impressed by the fact that he could turn into stuffed animals. “Ya I can do actual teddy bears and a few other things right now. But so far I haven’t met a stuffed animal that I can’t change into.” He said to Elise. Now it was official… he was completely embarrassed. Sure it happened a lot that people thought his power was cool but he still couldn’t help but blush when he told people about it and got basically that exact reaction that he’d gotten from Elise out of lots of other people. He listened to Amber and Alina talk about going for a swim with their powers and he thought that was really cool. Teddy so far hadn’t messed with very many, if any, water stuffed animals. He’d always wanted to but he didn’t know how his powers would react to actual water and being treated like an actual animal.
“I don’t know.” He said to Elise. He wouldn’t mind taking the title of Coolest Mutant Power Ever, but… “Sounds like being the Lock Ness Monster would be pretty cool.” When the timer finally dinged he could smell the scent of good cookies replacing the scent of the previous burnt ones. When Elise started to take the cookies off the sheet and place them on plates it was obviously he cue to get some of the delicious smell. Ted walked up to them and took a plate. “They smell great. I hope they taste as good as they smell. Thanks.” He said to them both. He hadn’t helped with the cooking at all but they were certainly glad to be sharing with anyone in the room.
“Ohh!” Alina sighed with pleasure at the first mouthful of gooey deliciousness. They tasted better than anything she had ever tasted before. “Please, help yourself!” She said to Amber. “Loch Ness Monster? That sounds pretty cool. I haven't had a chance to change into my form for a while. We should plan a beach excursion and scare some tourists in the New York Harbor.” She laughed, mood brightened by the cookies.
“Thank you all for your kindness and patience with my cookie ignorance. Especially you, Elise.” She said. “It was really great to get to know you guys. We should do this again sometime. I shouldn't be too hard to find. I have to go soon. My mom is picking me up soon. I'll see you guys around! I'll talk to you soon Amber.” With that she grabbed a cookie for the road and waved to Ted, Elise, and Amber in turn.
