The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hunter nodded to Kai before handing him the pump. With the dimensions given to him Hunter set about the task with vigour. Even with his powers limited Hunter was still slightly above human levels and so digging a little hole was easy enough.
Hunter powered away at it and in no time there was a hole that was almost exactly the dimensions that Kai had asked for. “There we go,” he said, taking a brief moment to catch his breath, “So what’s next then?”
It seemed like Kai had just turned his back and dug his first shovel full when Hunter announced that he was finished with his task. Which was kind of astonishing, because Kai was no weak, gangly teenager. He was accustomed to digging and other feats of upper body strength. So his eyes may have widened when he spied the perfectly round hole. And his jaw may have dropped when he noticed that it was almost exactly the dimensions he had specified.
“Uh,” he said distracted, “You can grab the tree out of the back of my van.” He picked the keys out of his pocket and tossed them. “It’s just out front. Big sign on the side. The tree is the only one in the back.”
Then he feverously set to work, his shovel biting into the ground, lifting, dumping, and biting again. He grabbed the pump to check his progress against the physical part, and in his haste, accidentally cut himself on the sharp corner.
“Ouch!” he yipped. A small drop of blood oozed out of his hand. That’s gonna make it hard to grip the handle- makes the whole project that much more of a hassle! he mentally chastised for going too fast and making mistakes.
Hunter nodded to Kai. Stabbing the shovel in the grounded he caught the keys as they were tossed to him and headed through the building out front. The van wasn’t hard to find, nor the tree in the back. It wasn’t heavy enough to cause Hunter any problems as he hefted it onto one should and closed the van up again.
He headed back in but passed as he entered the garden. Even with his senses restrained he could still smell that unique smell. Fresh blood. It didn’t take him long to spot the small cut on Kai’s finger. The smell of it filled his nostrils and the glint of the bright red was so alluring. Hunter wanted nothing more fight now than to sink his fangs into the boy and drain him dry. Taking a few deep breaths Hunter suppressed the urge and carried the tree over to the hole he had made. Setting it down he turned and kept his eyes on Kai’s face, ignoring the droplet of blood on his finger, and asked “Now what?”
Is it too wussy to ask for a bandaid? Sometimes he didn’t care about that kind of thing, but he was kind of in a mental contest of strength with this one. Just because he was also a gardener and seemed to be really strong… Maybe he lifted actual weights, too? That would explain it.
Kai decided to just deal. He sucked on his hand to clean the blood off. “Oh, you know. Stick it in the hole. Pile the dirt back on top of it.” He was a little snippy, because of his injury. No reason to take it out on him!
To clear his head, he picked up the shovel again, ignoring the sting in his hand.
It was like the boy was taunting him, licking the succulent red drop off his finger. Hunter mentally chastised himself. The boy didn’t know about his... addiction. That was the correct word for it. Hunter was a blood addict. Even though his body no longer needed blood it still craved it. He wasn’t aware that he was addicted to blood until he could no longer have it. In the past when he could have some whenever he wanted it wasn’t an issue. But now, now he burned for it.
Turning away Hunter set about planting the tree. Anything to distract himself from the blood. Even though he couldn’t see it he could still smell it faintly in the air. Almost before he had started he had finished and the tree was firmly planted. Looking at his watch it was thankfully time for his session with Shana.
“I’ve got a session now,” he said as he headed back inside, “When you’re done for the day let Ellie know and she’ll arrange for you to come again tomorrow. If I’m free I’ll come and give you a hand again.” He gave Kai a parting smile before heading inside and away from temptation.
The next day was not as beautiful as the previous. Grey clouds over head threatened rain, but perhaps not impending rain. He had some time to work. In fact, it was the perfect time to work because plants liked water right after being moved.
Kai plunked down the copper bowl into the pre-dug hole from yesterday. A good fit. He took it out again and began connecting hoses in an intricate tangle that would eventually turn into waterfall brilliance. Next, it was time to bury it all and pile rocks on top of it. With any luck he would be finished within the hour.
Things were going smoothly until he ran into one slight snag. Where was he supposed to plug this thing in? A huge extension cord running along would totally ruin the effect he was going for.
Hunter returned from his lessons with Juka around one. He wondered how quick a study the boy really was. Time would tell he supposed. Spotting Kai’s van out front he headed through to the garden to see if the boy needed any help.
“Afternoon Kai,” he said as he stepped outside. He took a moment to survey the boy’s work and had to admit that he was impressed things were coming along nicely. “Anything I can help you with today? I have an hour or so.”
“Hello, Mr. An- Hunter.” Kai returned the greeting, somewhat distractedly. “Yes, I’m just… well, I realized that there is a flaw in the way I planned the garden and I was trying to figure out how to fix it.” All the wires and tubes were in their proper places now, the only tasks left were placing the rocks around the pools and over the ‘falls’ area, which was indicated by a small slide, so the water wouldn’t seep into the ground.
“I just realized,” he made himself go on and admit defeat, “that I didn’t figure out a way to get this sucker plugged in. The water return isn’t going to work very well without electricity, I’m afraid.” There, he said it. Now he just had to hope that Hunter knew a way around this predicament.
Hunter pondered on the matter a moment. Just extending a cable would be no good. However if they buried an extension cable and covered where the system plugged in with rocks the fountain would work fine without an unsightly cable running through the garden.
“Could we bury an extension cable?” he suggested, “In the ground or at least under rocks. The plug into the fountain could be covered with rocks and if we have it so the cable pops out near the door hardly any of it will show and disrupt the tranquillity you’ve managed to create here.”
Yes! Bury it! Genius! Why didn’t he think of that? After all, he was burying the other electrical components.
“Hmm… Yes, I think that could work. Let’s bury the extension cable.” He played it cool, deftly handing Hunter a shovel again. “We’ll have to go down a couple of inches so the grass doesn’t grow over it in a funny way.” Yes, he did know a lot about burying cables, uh huh, yes he did.
“Sounds good to me,” Hunter said taking the offered shovel, “How about I start by the door, you start by the fountain and we meet in the middle?” There was a hint of a challenge in his voice as he suggested what could be a little race.
Walking to the doors he placed the shovel blade on the ground and gave a nod to Kai before he began. Using his powerful muscles Hunter began to dig a shallow trench towards Kai. He had little intention of meeting in the middle.
The challenge was issued and accepted. There was something funny about the way that Hunter did things. Like carry a tree across the yard and plop it down with ease, or dig a perfect cylindrical hole in a snap. He was fighting dirty somehow. Probably some mutant who can levitate things or something so they are actually weightless. Well, if he is using powers, than so am I.
Kai clamped his jaw together in determination as Hunter strolled confidently across the lawn. Hunter gave a nod, indicating the start of the race. The root-manipulator closed his eyes immediately and explained quickly to the grass what he wanted. He used a picture, a long, straight furrow, rather than words to explain, it was faster. The blades quivered in excitement.
Yes, divide and grab the earth with your roots.
They prepared for a split second, then Kai spread out both of his hands, as he imaged Moses had. And the grass obeyed, parting before him as the seas parted and leaving a perfectly straight trench stretching out from where he stood to the point where Hunter had managed to dig.
So Kai was a mutant, earth manipulator by the looks of it. Explains why he liked working in gardens. Hunter had made maybe five feet before Kai’s self digging trench met up with him. “Handy power,” he said with a smile as he flicked the shovel onto his shoulder, “Must make gardening a lot easier.”
Grabbing the extension cable he proceeded to run it all the way along the trench to Kai so he could hook up the fountain to the mains. “Should I start filling the trench back in or have you got that covered?”
Kai flashed Hunter his best toothy grin and gave a little shrug. “No hard feelings?” He plugged the fountain in and was rewarded with the satisfying sound of trickling water.
“Actually, it might be harder to get the grass to move back than it was to part it like that. So you can have your pick. Would you rather place these rocks around the fountain and pile them up for the waterfall or fill in the trench?”
A plant manipulator then. With a smile Hunter watched as the water began to trickle down the waterfall. “You dug it,” Hunter said with a smile as he handed Kai a shovel, “You fill it.” Moving over to where the extension lead popped out he began to cover it with rocks. It wasn’t hard as it wasn’t especially large.
While waiting for Kai to finish filling the trench hunter picked up four smaller stones and started to juggle them casually. He’d learned how to juggle on a whim and found he was pretty good at it. With a little practise he could juggle four balls, or stones, no problem. Five got a bit trickier and he hadn’t tried that in a while.
