Balance zero. Garrett's face turned into a snarl as he tried again unsuccessfully. It was no mistake. His funds were drained. All the time he had spent with the Order, he had just used their fraudulent credit lines to get what he wanted. Not that he wanted much, considering he was always stuck in an office. It was a particularly humid day, the sweat sticking to his head like wood glue. The ATM popped his bank card out at him and he pocketed it. He looked at it with contempt, as if it might be laughing at him.

It looked like he would have to start budgeting. The word grated against his inner ears like nails on a chalkboard. Even funnier was the idea that a couple of years ago, he was dumpster diving. It was too easy to get caught up once the money started flowing. So, of course, the idea to put his hands on some unsuspecting fat pockets came creeping in immediately. It was so easy. Besides, humans still remained as a lower species in his mind, regardless of it trying to wrap around the idea of guarding them instead of fleecing them. His morality continued to fight itself and man, was it getting old.

So, he sat down at a bus stop with the other tired people. No one particularly looked at him or noticed him, which was nice in a way. He could just be another bum, even though he was actually a student. Educated bum, then. Two words made it a title.

Yeaaaah.

Two days ago:

Tyranny stood with the tape in the back of the bank, thinking that flashing her Rupert I.d. to get her past things and into security rooms was way too much fun. Carrying her guns,concealed complete with license was nice too. Getting her hands on the tape in question was oh so easy and whats that the back up drive that had the original.

Uh oh! the tape and the media on the back up drive was empty. how could that have happend, certainly not the magnetic pulse machine in her coat pocket, that couldn't have done damage to both of the lovely security items.

Tyranny stood in Black heels a moderate but still managed to be short skirt. a white button up and a business jacket. under that was the pair of guns and their holsters. " where is the video gentlemen, I don't like my time wasted. and I really don't think that your bosses will appreciate your joke, seeing as I am the only one offering you any sort of aid beyond telling you to make a claim to the insurance. you want this guy caught then you better have something better than this!"

The pair of security guards had thus far been way more interested in the sexy dame in the skirt than they had the work they were supposed to be doing. " hang on a moment mam we have one more contingency, this is crazy. " the round man scooted across the room in his computer chair and discreetly logged onto a computer that was off at the moment.

the screen came to life with the little multi colored flag of the windows logo and a few moments later he had found the proper time and video. she sat and watched, and moreimportantly set so the button on the right of her coat pocket took it all in. " it was damning evidence of a seemingly normal client taking advantage of the gang and the bank. he was smooth and confident. He was making waves that they didn't need and he hadn't thought about the camera. she got a good read on the face and his features and from there she shut down the computer.

Opps she dropped her pen. he bent down to get it, "I got it, I'm such a clutz sometimes." she played the ditzy bimbo. and got on her hands and knees crawling under the desk to get a pen. Both security guards were paying attention to one thing only she was sure. the magnet was next to the computer. she manually set off a second burst of electro manetism from the device and slid the pen into her pocket. getting up and shaking hands ith the gentlemen," I'll get out of your hair I think we have waht we need.

The mutant in question had a lot of red tape attached to him, he was involved with two of the big three in NYC, though how he did so, so effortlessly was odd to her, seemed like these people took whoever came to play. Hopefully he was so inclined to indulge her presence, she knew she sure didn't take to the initial meeting well. his bank card had went off and was denied at a nearby atm and they rushed to the scene.

Tyranny's eyes fell on the distraught man so she strutted over to the bench and took a seat next to him. She wore a very similar get up to the one she wore for the bank case. she crossed her legs so that he wouldn't be able to not notice her legs next to him. " So, Mister seems like you need an accountant, or you have so high collar tastes. already broke, you'd think a bank jobs ransom would last longer."

Other than the click of heels, Garrett never noticed the woman taking aseat next to him until she spoke. Once his eyes moved to his left, they caught legs and then got stuck before they could move up to her face. He sucked on his teeth, but there was no saliva.'So, Mister seems like you need an accountant, or you have so high collar tastes. already broke, you'd think a bank jobs ransom would last longer."Hmm. This wasn't a favorable prospect. Not only was he broke, but now someone knew about it and was either here to bust him or blackmail him. He didn't see a badge. Narrowed it down a bit.

The other bums skittered away like cockroaches when bank robberies were mentioned. She was dressed like a Fed and probably was one. Garrett chuckled to himself. It had taken the police a long time to catch him. How would he go out? Like a lion or a lamb? First things first. " Are you a cop? If so, I'd like to see some ID. Otherwise, piss off. I'm not in the mood." Hot or not, whoever she was, she was letting him know she had weight on him.

"my my you are feisty. I'm not so dire a beast as an N Y pig D," it wasn't clever but it amused her. she pulled out her Rupert I.d. "I'm something different altogether. as are you mister Wills. You feel like talking about it, getting something off your chest? I've got a pair of ears, if you want to put em to use. She wasn't sure what take she wanted to run with, they said just about every job ended up being more decided by the attitude on the mark...hmmm was mark the right word?

Thats a good picture. she said commenting on her the picture next to her badge.and funny thing, you're demanding I.d. I was doing the same thing about a video tape a couple nights back, darn things gout erased. but from what I know about you, you're more than just an opportunistic bank robber, aren't you? you are all over the place, opening clinics, joining supremacy groups and the heroes. my my you live a busy life don't you. but I said I'd listen and here I am just talking and talking. you go ahead. she crossed and uncrossed those pretty legs.

Something was wrong with this woman. She was much too happy about her position. Something was wrong. Like when animals in the savannah sensed a lion in the high grass, though they couldn't see it. She wanted to talk to him, or rather she wanted him to talk to her. Then the badge came out. Garrett looked it over while she spoke some more. R.U.P.E.R.T. What the hell was that? He had never seen anything like it. Was it fake? If it was, it was a damned good fake.

And then the bombs started dropping. The Clinic, The Order, the Mansion. Maybe whoever these people were knew everything about him. The immediate sensation of a trap raised the hairs on the back of his neck and made a tingling in his stomach. But, curiously, nothing else. He couldn't feel his nerves. He couldn't feel his nerves. Sweat began to pour over him and it had nothing to do with the heat. No panicking, no panicking. Too late, since his heart was ready to beat in front of the pair after exploding from his rib cage. " I guess you have an idea of what I can do then." His hand touched hers and he furrowed his eyebrows. Nothing. No map, no sensation. Nothing but the feeling of her warm hand against his increasingly clammy skin. His eyes must have been the size of saucers. " What the f***?"

She watched it happen, he tried to blow her up, or catch her on fire, turn her into a bear, make her teleport to a train, make her teleport under a train, make a train appear infront of them. crazy train powered mutants. reguardless of what he was tryingto do it wasn't happening and he was feeling the cold harsh truth that his genes had been one upped, meet the future, baby. savor the poison as it slowly ran threw your veins and shut them down one by one. that was a bit morbid.

of course I do, you are very talented indeed.

A pause as his hand bumped hers, maybe it was worse if he touched her, maybe the train was bigger or faster when he teleported it then. he cursed, she smiled. her hand slide under his and attempted to intertwine his. Go on dear, let it out. you can trust me. just say what ever is on your mind. don't be shy now." Like a lioness with the throat of a broken gazelle in its maw, she waited and then adjusted, she knew, he knew who had the situation in hand. and thus her tone changed, it sounded soothing and genuine.

(sorry for string you along, though it fits her profile well, I want to hear back and see where we are actually going with this.)

Not so much as a twitch. Whoever she was, she was well aware of her own gifts, which seemed to have something to do with a dampening field. No, a nullifying field. Imemdiately pulling his hand free, Garrett stood and stepped back a pace or two. Still nothing. Not so much as a quiver from his nervous system. There was quivering, but it was currently somewhere deep within his digestive tract. He looked at her seriously, his demeanor that of business. if he didn't have his gifts to rely on, he would use his most effective weapon. Logic.

" Okay, this is a little strange. I'd like a few answers, if you think you can give them to me. First, I applaud your own talents as I have never met another mutant with such a damning ability as your own. That said, I'd really like to know if I am under arrest. I don't see anyone else around, but who knows? Could be plain clothes, for all I know. Second, what does that stand for? The name of the organization you represent. Third, how do you know so much about me? If you know where I am from and what I have done, then your group is in deep. I'd like to know more."

“being under arrest is so, what is the word. Trivial, There is so much more to the life of mutants then being under arrest. What we are after is making less waves. The less mutants causing a stir makes the human sheep feel more at ease and the more at ease the sheep are, the less the wolves have to worry about the Sheppard’s banding to gather and sending out parties to hunt them, oh the wolves win on a one on one, but the Sheppards around the world are growing weary of seeing their sheep stolen broken and eaten. So no, no you are not being put under arrest.”

She then held up a finger and repeated the phrase a few times quicker and quicker.

“you know New York

After the fourth time she said it. she stood as well.

"Regional Urban Preternatural Extraction and Reconnaissance Team.”

“ in short we clean up mutant messes and make them go away, the messes not the mutants. Unless they just beg for it. and that question should answer your last. We are concerned about you Mr. Wills. You seem to be on the verge of begging us to keep you out of the headlines, you’ve been good about doing that for yourself up until recently, even with the friends you keep.” He thought they knew everything, she wouldn’t burst his bubble, she was good at painting pictures, and this man seemed to admire her work.

She took a couple steps toward him keeping the gap between them small.

Garrett listened to the strange, chaotic language that came from her mouth. She seemed as if there might be some kind of rocket shoved up her butt and she had to talk like that to vent off the energy, lest she just go flying off into space. They seemed to be some kind of observation team, dedicated to ensuring mutants didn't get out of line. Or maybe something else. Maybe just to preserve the balance between the two. It was an interesting sentiment. It was like what the X-Men were supposed to do. But these people actually did it. He wasn't under arrest at all. That was a relief, but what did this strange creature actually want?

She stood. It was an ominous movement, considering Garrett's thought process. Could she read his mind as well as remove his gifts? Her preparatory tongue twister might have been helpful to her, but it only unnerved Garrett further. There was something wrong with this woman. he listened to the anagram. It all seemed OK. Except for one letter. E. Extraction. That didn't sound too pleasant at all. Was that why she was taking steps toward him? They were concerned about him. They wanted something from him, or wanted him for something. Her proximity was getting under his skin like bamboo shoots.

His hand came up, palm out. " Are you the Extraction part of the equation? And could you please stop approaching me? If you aren't here to arrest me and you want your organization known to me, then either you want to take me to them for something...or..you want me involved?" Keep crazy lady talking.

Tyranny sighed and shook her head, she never would understand a man that didn’t want her nearer to them, though to be fair she had just turned this guy upside down and back again.

“At the moment think of me as one of those annoying letters you get reminding you will have a payment due. You still have two weeks to pay but for some reason they think they need to tell you! I hate those things. As of right now, you are neither here nor there as far as we are concerned. A step to the left and we are extracting, a step to the right and we are doing some reconnaissance. Either way with this little heads up of ours, we think whatever happens will go more smoothly. But this also gives you the tidy third option of trying to stay on the middle path and moderating yourself. she takes a couple steps back and plops down on the bench with all the lady like grace and dignity of a grunt marine on leave.

Garrett listened to Miss Jones go on some more. He wondered if she might not just keep going if he wasn't there at all. " I have no idea what path I am on, Miss Jones. If I did, I don't think you would have tracked me down so easily. I tend to be the type who works best under pressure. When I get idle, I get bored. when I get bored, well, as hard as I try to fight it, I start sliding to the left. Staying busy puts me more toward the right side. This middle path that you speak of would be an oasis for me, if I thought it truly existed. I will take your number, though."He coughed slightly, wishing to correct himself while stepping back toward her. " Your business one, of course."

He honestly felt a bit more at ease once she had taken a seat. She was in phenomenal shape and considering her mental state, she could easily take him down. It made Garrett consider working out more. Lots more. He had not found a place where her effect did not work on him, so he just sucked at his teeth. He was within arms reach of her, so he hoped she remained placid and only wished to reach out and hand him a card.

Tyranny smiled as she listened, ignoring his correction of choice of numbers. the number in front had been all business. SHe wrote in a curvy font. ~Tyranny~ 555-555-0505 she then flipped over the cared and put a line through the anagram of Rupert and wrote above it An Oasis . She fought the urge to smile again and put the card between two fingers and held it out. I look forward to seeing you as a man on a mission then. she stood up again. I suppose this is where we shall part ways then Mr.Wills. Try to stay out of trouble, but if you don't feel free to that number as you Representative lawyer, though if we bail you out of something like that it will come with a cost. she laughed, overly amused.
