The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was routine of a certain older sister to come to the mansion to check up on her younger siblings. Even if they didn't see her, she was always there, watching and protecting them whether they wanted it or not. It was a remarkably dreary day at the institute, with the skies overcast and Grey, casting shadows all around the front lawns. Today, was a good day for Sapphire to visit her younger sisters, plenty of shadows she could hide in while sneaking across campus as well as plenty of ammunition just in case if things got messy.
The artist thought that everything was going well, she had already talked to little Ruby, listening to her rattle on about her new friends. While she did find some of these prattling tiresome, she enjoyed listening to the little fox girl speak of her joys, it gave Sapphire herself vague hope of a better tomorrow for herself and for Emerald.
Speaking of which, Sapphire had found the eighteen year old werewolf walking through the hallways of the institute. She saw that her sister looked worse for wear and she couldn't help but be concerned for her. Those dark rings under the red heads normally bright life filled eyes were troublesome for the darkness manipulator. A small twang of guilt filled the older girl for not being able to help her younger sister with some of her problems that caused this sleepless look.
The two women walked for a good while in the mansions hallways, ignoring the tension between the two of them. Once they got to a far more isolated hallway, away from most of the students rooms, Sapphire finally spoke.
"What happened Emerald? You look like something the cat dragged in." Sapphire asked, though still keeping that polite tone.
Watching as her younger sister run her hand through her hair nervously made Sapphire even more concerned for the girl. This was a side of Sapphire not many people saw, the side that actually cared for other people, mainly her family but other people none the less. She listened as the wolf girl relayed the story of the house and how it replicated events from the labs, it wasn't until Bloodfang was mentioned that Sapphire showed any expression on that cold face of hers. Her face twisted in anger, clenching both fists at her side before regaining her composure.
"So did you kill those fools?" Sapphire asked, her voice calm once again, despite the terrifying anger than showed on her face.
"No, wasn't able to I was injected with a sedative that replicated the ones in the labs, I couldn't move really well." Emerald replied, leaning her head against the wall.
A small laugh escaped the darkness manipulators lips. "You are loosing your touch Emmy, the Emerald I know would have gone back to that house and ripped it apart until she found those twins, then precede to tear them apart as well." Sapphire crossed her arms over her chest with an amused look on her face, however something was unsettling about that look.
Emerald let out a low grow at her sister. "The Emerald you know is the same as she has always been, just not pumped up on experimental steroids that were forced into her body by a orderly"
Sapphire shook her head, shrugging her shoulders with a sigh, "Emmy,Emmy,Emmy, whenever will you learn that the beast inside of you needs to be feed and the only thing it eats is blood and the suffering of others."
The wolf girl's body tensed as she stared hard at her older sister, "Listen up sis, I'm gonna tell ya something, I am not a monster, not now, not anymore. If you want to talk to a monster, go look at yourself in the mirror sometime after you kill another innocent person."
It had come to Sapphires attention that her younger sister needed a little bit more educating than she thought she did. While at first her intentions were to comfort the girl about her experience, talking to her about her apparent insomnia as well, now they were something far more educational.
"Innocence? Emerald, my dear little sister you know that both of our views on life were changed that day we were both taken away from our parents almost ten years ago." Sapphire told her younger sibling, walking slowly toward her. "The little innocence that is left in this world will soon be corrupted as it always is. You can't trust anyone Emmy, the world is cruel, the world is wicked, I am the only person left in this whole city you can trust."
Sapphire watched as the wolf girl clenched her fists at her side, obviously ready for a fight. The eldest Lupin wasn't looking for a fight, she was looking to teach her younger sibling a lesson and before the younger girl was able to react several tendrils of darkness cast from the shadows of the hall bound her to the wall. For a moment Sapphire watched as Emerald struggled vehemently against the darknesses grasp, only it vein for they constricted around her tighter making the artist sight deeply.
"Why is it you have to be so difficult? I'm only trying to help you. " Sapphire shook her head as Emerald attempted to bite at her as soon as she got close. "We aren't so different Emmy, both of us do what we must for our families, both of us have murdered people that have threatened to destroy our ways of life and it bothers me that you keep fighting against me."
Sapphire stared hard into the dark blue eyes that mirrored her own lighter blue ones. Despite her younger siblings more wolven looks, one could tell that the two girls were related. If anyone knew Emerald they would know that the cold look Sapphire was giving her, the pleased smirk on her face and the way she strode up to Emerald was mirroring Emeralds exactly. Though she hated to admit it, Emerald knew that her and Sapphire had many similar ties.
"Other people, hurt us Emerald and no matter if you will admit it or not we are far closer than you might think." Sapphire told Emerald, patting the side of the wolf girls cheek. "I enjoy killing those who are unworthy of us and the perfect utopia we are destined to create. Whether they be mutant or human it doesn't matter, anyone who gets in my way of creating the perfect life for us will face the consequences."
"Even if it causes pain for Ruby and I?" Emerald asked coldly, another growl escaping her lips. "I fight crime Sapphire, I go out and hurt people that would hurt those who have done nothing wrong. You kill people for money and for your own sick pleasure in order to relive the days in the labs where you were able to do anything you wanted. The world you are trying to create the one where everything will be fine and we will be together all the time, will hurt us more in the long run, and I don't want to be a part of that world."
Unfortunately, it seemed that Emerald wasn't listening to her older sisters words which saddened the darkness user. This meant that her lesson would be far harsher than she originally intended, Sapphire reached into her pocket and retrieved and syringe, long and pointed filled with some sort of chemical. She watched her sister begin to struggle more violently, rage and slight panic in those dark blue eyes.
"You fight for those who would betray you in an instant if they found out your past. A good deal of this innocence that you speak of is a lie little sister, this world has become corrupt because of those who are in it and if I have to wipe out an entire city to ensure that our families lives can be perfect so be it. As for yours and Ruby's happiness." Sapphire jabbed the needle in the wolven females exposed shoulder, pushing the plunger in slowly. "I will put you, little sister, in pain induced stupor if I need to in order to make my vision come true. You will thank me some day."
Sapphire watched as the struggling suddenly ceased and a heard a loud cry escape the wolf girls lips, she watched as the chemical took its a effect, making the younger girl tense up in order to bite back anymore cries of pain. Realesing her younger sister Sapphire watched for a moment as the girl whrithed on the ground, pained whimpers escaping her throat as she bit so hard onto her lip it began to bleed. After a time the young girl stopped moving all together, passing out on the hard floor from the sheer pain. Sapphire was impressed because she lasted a solid ten minutes against pain she did far better than she ever had in the labs against , it made the older girl wonder if perhaps it was because she had something to fight for here. Pushing these thoughts out of her mind the oldest Lupin kissed Emerald on the forehead, brushing some of the crimson hair out of her face.
"Good night little sister. " She cooed, before teleporting away
Gawain got into the habit of wandering around the Mansion mirrors again; he figured he needed some training with his powers, so he took every opportunity he could get to teleport in and out of reflecting surfaces around the school. It was more entertaining than most of the classes Sam had signed him up for.
>>"Innocence? Emerald, my dear little sister..."
Gawain stopped when he heard the female voice. Sister? He knew Emmy had sisters, but he'd never actually met them. This one sounded very interesting...
Sneaking from one reflection into the other, the young knight followed the voice of the two girls. As he heard more and more of the conversation, he started to get worried - it didn't sound like some innocent chat between siblings. Not. One. Bit.
>>"...You can't trust anyone Emmy, the world is cruel, the world is wicked, I am the only person left in this whole city you can trust."
Like hell. Gawain frowned deeply as he moved around, trying to get a good view of what was going on. The last thing he needed was someone to ruin what he achieved with hard work: Emmy's trust.
Unfortunately, the girls were standing in a place where there were no reflecting surfaces around, so he had to go around trying to get as close as possible. In the meantime, the talk continued.
>>"I enjoy killing those who are unworthy of us and the perfect utopia we are destined to create. Whether they be mutant or human it doesn't matter, anyone who gets in my way of creating the perfect life for us will face the consequences."
Yay. Sister Lupin was a psycho. Just what they needed, after the telepath creeps. Gawain was starting to get an idea of why Emmy flipped out so bad after the haunted house. The more he heard the more sure he was Siter Lupis was not going to be his favorite person in the family.
>>"...I will put you, little sister, in pain induced stupor if I need to in order to make my vision come true. You will thank me some day."
This was exactly the point where sibling rivalry turned physical. Gawain finally found a mirror from where he could see the sisters down the hall, just in time to see Emerald on the ground, struggling against the pain. Enough is enough.
"YOU!" Gawain yelled, leaving the mirror to tear down the hall... just getting there in time to see the older sister teleport away "Damn!"
Skidding to a halt, already on his knees, Gawain leaned over the wolf girl to see if she was breathing. "Emmy? Emmy!" Heartbeat, check. Breathing, check. Consciousness, not so much. This is not good. Not good at all.
The young knight picked up the wolf girl carefully; she was lighter than she looked (or he got stronger in the past few months, who knows), and hurried down the hall with her towards the Infirmary. Even before he got there, he already started blaming himself. If only he got to them faster... Focus, Gawain.
"Doc, I need some help here!" he yelled as he barged in to the Infirmary, putting Emerald down onto the nearest bed. Doc seemed to appear out of nowhere, and he was already at the wolf girl's side as Gawain pulled up a chair to sit down and tell him what happened the best he could. Too bad he wasn't really sure what had happened.
Once the wolf girl was brought to the infirmary Doc made a be line toward the unconciuss wolf girl and the young mirror mancer. For a brief moment he thought it was from the females own recklessness that she was unconciuss but when he saw no evidence that she had been in a fight (recently at least) he took a chance to look at the small puncture wound on the werewolf's shoulder. He let out a sigh as he made his way over to the corner of the room he took a similar needle and injected it into the werewolf gently as he could.
"Her sister did this right?" Doc Proff asked, shaking his head. He knew all of what Miss Lupin had gone through and needless to say he wasn't happy about it. "That injection that was given to Emerald had a similar feeling if you swallowed razorblades that had the ability to move through your body. Its meant to put the victim through so much pain they black out. This isn't the first time Sapphire has done this to Emerald."
>>"That injection that was given to Emerald had a similar feeling if you swallowed razorblades that had the ability to move through your body. Its meant to put the victim through so much pain they black out. This isn't the first time Sapphire has done this to Emerald."
Gawain shuddered as he watched the wolf girl.
"Sounds like a world-class b*tch to me" he frowned "Doin' somethin' like that to one's own sister, it ain't right."
Of course, there were lots of things about the Lupins that were less than right, but as far as Gawain knew, most of them they were not personally responsible for. So far.
Doc sighed, pushing his glasses up to the bridge of his nose, looking at Gawain with sad eyes. For a brief time, he had the eldest lupin under his care when she was injuried during the rescue attempt at registration. He had found as many scars on the older girl as he did on her younger sibling however, most of them looked to be by her own hand. He knew all of what Emerald had gone through as well as Ruby, but niether of the younger Lupins knew what happened to thier elder sister. However, from what he gathered it was nothing short of far more horrible than any of them could imagine.
"The eldest of the Lupins was not treated well in the labs, similarly to that of her two younger siblings. However, she was given privileges for helping the doctor do his experiments. My belief is that something happened to Sapphire that shattered her young mind, the day she was taken behind a closed door and away from her siblings. Emerald always said that Sapphire was smart and strong willed, for someone to have broken someone who was as strong willed as Em, something terrible must have happened." The Doc explained, just as he watched the wolf girl shift in her pain induced sleep.
He smiled a little as she woke up, rubbing her head irritably, "Welcome back, have a nice nap?" He asked, his own playfull ribbing used to often help his patients.
Emerald growled a little, trying to adjust to the bright lights of the infirmary. "Yeah, except for the whole injected with that serum that makes me go through the worse pain I have experienced in a while thing, that always ruins your day." Emerald smiled gratefully at Gawain, quickly figuring out that he was the one that dragged her sorry unconciuss hide tot he infermary in the first place. It wasnt like she meant to pass out, she should have resited a lot longer but that thing really hurt. "Thanks Mirror Lad, at least this way I wont be knocked out for hours untill it works its way out of my system."
Doc paused for a moment, looking at Emerald with curious eyes. "How long did it take before the serum knocked you out?" ]The Doc asked, his voice filled with curiousity.
"10 minutes." The werewolf replied, sitting up on the bed with a grimace.
"Thats far longer than you said most people lasted under it."
"Well," Emerald paused for a moment before looking up at Gawain with that same wolfish grin. "I had people to protect this time and I didnt want it to beat me...though."A worried look crept across Emerald's face she was unable to fight. "Now that Sapphire knows people are getting close to me, she wont be too happy, shell think you guys are trying to prevent me and Ruby from becoming her family again."
Gawain frowned deeply at what the Doc shared with him about the Lupins' past. He didn't really know how to react to it - fortunately enough it didn't look like Doc expected any reaction. Emmy came around soon enough, and Gawain moved closer to the bed to look at her.
>>"Thanks Mirror Lad, at least this way I wont be knocked out for hours untill it works its way out of my system."
"Ya're welcome." he smiled, patting her hand "I'm sorry I didn't get there sooner. I realized too late what was goin' on."
>>"10 minutes."
Damn she is strong.
>>"I had people to protect this time and I didnt want it to beat me...though."
Gawain grinned. "That, and now ya've also got people to protect you." he nodded "Ya can't choose your family, Em, but you can choose... um, the people who drag ya back to the Infirmary every second day. Friends, that is."
