www.water-oak.net/Family/Scottish/G/rampant_lion_right.gifEveryday clothing style: Usually wears patterned button up shirts or designer T-Shirts, along with a leather jacket or sports blazer. Never wears socks with his shoes, so his feet are heavily calloused. When it gets extra cold, he wears a scarf, which he owns several of.
He also owns a real Scottish kilt made from the Livingstone tartan:
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6f/Livingstone_tartan_(D.C._Stewart).pngUniform: (if applicable): Max wears a homemade utility belt that holds his standard projectiles. These include:
- Steel/Rubber Balls, 1.5” diameter
- Steel Tent Stakes
- Bolas, 2’ long, coiled into loops
Max orders all of these online by bulk. He restocks his belt everyday. When he runs out of standard ammo, he uses anything and everything that comes to hand (and fits his powers).
Max always carries around a dirk his father gave him for graduating high school. Both a ceremonial and practical blade, Max uses it more as a pocketknife then a weapon.
Handle: 5”
Blade: 7”
www.deadeasy.com/blades/16%20-%20scottish%20dirk.jpgSleepwear: Boxers that match the Kilt (see above link) with or without a T-Shirt
Miscellaneous clothing: Wears a simple leather strapped necklace with a small metal cross.
Max usually has a handful or two of loose change in his pockets along with a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. He is only a light smoker, however.
CharacterPersonality: Max is extremely happy-go-lucky. His philosophy in life is “Optimism will always work,” a very optimistic opinion on optimism. He isn’t optimistic to the point of naiveté, however. Instead of openly accepting that things won’t turn out well, Max prefers to bottle it up and try and lighten the mood in any way he can, usually by purposely making a fool of himself.
Therein lies another quirk of Max. He loves laughing at himself; he thinks it makes him a stronger individual. Always willing to be the butt-end of jokes (so long as they’re somewhat tasteful), Max feels no peer pressure. None. He doesn’t care if people mock him, because a lot of the time “it’s funny, and deserves a laugh.”
Max grew up in a family fiercely proud of their heritage. Max shares this passion, dedicated to both Scotland and Clan Livingstone (also known as Clan MacLea). He has the Scottish flag tattooed over his left chest, saying that he “Always has Scotland close to his heart.” On his upper right arm is the Clan Livingstone motto “Si Je Puis” meaning “If I Can.” Max adheres to this motto and gives everything he does 100%.
While not in school, Max always loved to run. Often, he would run for hours upon hours after finishing his homework, often running well into the night through the industrial area, in the downtown area, anywhere and everywhere. This became even more so after his mutation was awakened. He loves to be free, blood pumping, feet moving, and the path new and exciting. He always is able to see beauty whenever he goes to run, be it a particularly pretty tree, a batch of fun clouds, or even just another person or so that seem interesting. Expect Max to try and make the world around him a happier place, with both his powers and his persona.
Job or part time job and description: None, but searching.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Merinthophobia, the fear of being tied up/bound/restrained. Max hates not being able to move, a subconscious feeling due to his powers. When he can’t move, Max starts to panic slightly, although he tries to mask it with his optimistic actions.
Special talents: He is rather good at cooking and is a whiz at math, especially his major, Physics (specifically 3D Kinematics).
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Growing up, Max’s parents taught him at a young age that the best thing a person could do in life was try and make the world a better place. When his powers became apparent, he knew, without a second’s hesitation that he would use his powers “for the betterment of mankind.”
Mutation: Max calls his mutation “Momentum Infusion.” He has the ability to infuse objects with momentum, and have specific control over the magnitude, direction and spin of the momentum infused.
Strengths: Max’s mutation allows for two key abilities.
- Creation of High Velocity Projectiles.
o Max can take ordinary objects, infuse them momentum, and throw them with reasonable accuracy.
o Unlike normal humans that throw things regularly, like a baseball pitcher, Max’s body does not expend any actual physical effort. He can throw a fastball at Top Speed all day long if needed.
- Gyroscopic Running
o Max can also impart his own abilities into himself. Because of his size, he cannot go nearly as fast as the projectiles he throws, but he can run up to 45 mph.
o Like his throwing power, Max’s speed doesn’t come from physical effort, but his mutation. Running at high speeds doesn’t require as much physical effort as running at those speeds naturally.
Weaknesses: - Morality: Max refuses to kill. He believes in this so vigorously that he’d rather die then take a single life (I will stick to this IC 100%. It is one of his defining characteristics).
- Mass/Speed Limitation of Projectiles: The larger the object, the less momentum Max can infuse into it.
o Small Object:
• Mass Range: 0.001 lbs (Penny) to 0.5 lbs (Baseball)
• Top Speed: 85 mph
o Medium Object:
• Mass Range: 1.0 lbs (Can of Food) to 10 lbs (Chair)
• Top Speed: 45 mph
o Large Object:
• Mass Range: Over 10 lbs
• Top Speed: Cannot Infuse Yet
All of the speed values depend on the circumstance: physical shape, amount of spin, Max’s condition, and condition of the target
- Accuracy Limitation of Projectiles: The faster/smaller the object, the less accurate Max can throw it.
o 0 – 25 ft
• Small Object: High Accuracy
• Medium Object: High Accuracy
o 50 ft
• Small Object: Medium Accuracy
• Medium Object: High Accuracy
o 50 ft +
• Small Object: Low Accuracy
• Medium Object: Medium Accuracy
All accuracies are based on “ideal” targets that are either stationary or almost stationary.
- Combination of Powers: Max cannot use both of his abilities at the same time. In order to infuse an object, he has to stop infusing himself.
- Running Speed Only: Max can only use his powers upon himself to run faster. His ability to dodge, move his throwing arms/hands quicker, reaction times, are all kept normal.
o Because of this, Max rarely run at his full potential, for there is a very, very high chance of crashing and either hurting himself or people around him.
Overall, Max is quite prolific with his powers. A physics whiz that also trains constantly, Max (almost) knows his powers and their limits like the back of his own hand. He still does have slip ups, and there are still more ways to use his powers that he hasn’t learned/thought about using yet.
Fighting StyleExplanation: Max tries to avoid hand-to-hand combat. He generally uses his surroundings to his benefit; to provide projectiles to throw, to provide cover that he can throw his projectiles from (and around). One of his non-mutation strengths in battle is that he is generally very aware of his surroundings.
When he is forced into hand-to-hand combat, Max uses the Judo he learned from taking a few Judo classes in college as well as from being in an amateur Judo club. He doesn’t know much, but it’s better then nothing.
Pros for fighting style: Very hard to hit. Combined with his use of terrain and speed, Max knows his way around a fight, and is able to adapt to many situations quickly.
Cons for fighting style: Max, beside his mutation, is still just human. When he is hit, he will go down. Also, his hand-to-hand combat skills aren’t the best. Better then an untrained combatant for sure, but no match for someone who knows what he or she is doing.
Faction AllegianceNew Character (although shows great desire to become an X-Man)
HistoryMax had it easy, at first. Born in Oban, Scotland, to Gary and Lucy Livingstone, Max had a normal childhood, free of stress. His family moved to Aberdeen when he was five after his mother, a nurse, received a job at the Royal Cornhill Hospital. His father got a job at the seaport, unloading freights. Max got good grades in school, especially math. With his family, he regularly attended the Clan Livingstone gatherings, his father’s side of the family being very predominate members. As a child, he always found them boring.
A week after his 15th birthday, Max found himself in serious trouble. Out on one of his nightly runs, he decided to take a shortcut through a junkyard. It was a new moon, everything was very dark, and unknown to the teenager, the hangout for a small group of thieves.
Max was working his way around the piles of junk, when he heard something up ahead him. He turned the corner and suddenly was face to face with a sinister looking man who wore a red bandana around his forehead. He turned to run and call the cops, but he tripped over a broken toaster that was lying on the ground. From behind the man with the bandana, five more men walked forward and surrounded the kid.
“Well well, what do we have here mates? Some young twerp has tried to enter our turf,” the man with the bandana said as he drew a switchblade. “We don’t like that, do we?”
The rest of the criminals laughed evilly as Max crawled backwards, his eyes starring at the blade. He fumbled around on the ground; picked up the toaster he had tripped on, and threw it at the man with the bandana. This is when his mutation triggered for the first time.
CLANG
The toaster zoomed out from Max’s hand as he threw it, hitting the man with the bandana in the stomach so hard it knocked him off his feet. Both Max and the other thieves just stared at the man on the ground as he groaned in pain, dropping the switchblade. Max quickly crawled forward and picked up the switchblade, standing up.
“Bloody Hell! That kid’s gonna kill us!” One of the goons said as he turned and ran, followed by the rest of his gang. Max just stood there, switchblade in hand. After a few minutes of silence, only pierced by the groaning of the man with the bandana, Max threw the switchblade to the side into a pile of junk, got up, and ran away. He didn’t come home that night. He just kept running away, his now unleashed powers taking him faster and faster then he’d ever run before.
From that day forward, Max didn't consider himself to be normal. In his young mind, he thought there wasn’t a chance his family would accept a mutant like him. Max started to live his own, using his powers to help him survive. However, he always tried to follow the law, whenever possible. He never stole, or injured anyone that didn’t try and harm him or other innocent people. Living on the streets with these values made life hard, but Max survived.
Two years passed, and, Max was currently in Glasgow. He decided to sleep up on the rooftops and stare at the stars. What he didn't realize was the roof he was chosen for its view was also the Glasgow City Bank...and a local gang had planned to rob it that very night. Max awoke to the sounds of the thieves entering through a rooftop window. Seeing their equipment, Max managed to figure out the men weren’t the night janitors, and followed them into the bank, eventually foiling their plot using his powers.
Just as he was finishing taking down the last robber, a Glasgow City Policeman, who had noticed something was the matter as he passed the bank in his patrol car, entered the bank with his gun drawn. In a state of panic bred during his years on the streets, Max started to flee, but tripped over the unconscious body of a thief. The Policeman walked up to him, but instead of handcuffing Max, he stared at him for a few moments, then, asked Max if he had a place to stay for the night.
The Policeman told Max his name: Sergeant Donald MacLea. He was a distant relative of Max’s, a member of the MacLea/Livingstone Clan. He remembered Max’s face from a missing person poster that had been circulating through the Clan. Sergeant MacLea turned to Max as they started to drive back to the station, and said something Max has never forgotten to this day.
“You’re part ‘o the Clan laddie. Don’t matter what you are, you’re family, and the Clan will accept you.”
Keeping what Sergeant Donald said in mind, Max was returned back to his parents after a few weeks of legal paperwork dealing with his actions at the bank. Luckily, one of the file clerks handling the case was named Rufus Livingstonee (another branch of the Clan) and helped move the case through quickly and quietly. Reunited with his parents, Max felt a sense of acceptance. Now enthusiastically joining his family at the Clan Livingstone gatherings, Max finally managed to settle down and regain a (mostly) normal life, graduating high school and then earning his B.S In Physics from the University of Edinburgh.
During all of this, Max kept doing what he had on the streets: explore his powers. Everyday he’d work out more drills for himself to do, be it with his powers or merely physically. He managed to learn how to calculate the right trajectories, how hard and when to throw certain objects. His aim became very acute. Max soon began to moonlight as a hero as “Momentum” during his senior year of college.
Max knew he wanted to be a hero, to change the world with his powers for the betterment of all life. He knew he wanted to be an X-Man. After earning his degree, he bought a plane ticket to New York, and for the first time in his life, left the U.K. He now seeks a teaching position at Xavier’s Sister School for Gifted Youngsters as well as a spot on the famous X-Men!
RoleplayWhere did you learn about this site: Honestly? Random Google Searches. Took me about a week to find.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Nope.
Sample RP: ((I will straight up admit, I’m not the greatest of writers. Only been RPing about a year now))
New York City, Queens, 42nd Street“WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Max let out a shout of joy as he ran in and out of traffic.
“God I love this town! It’s like a roller coaster, but for free! Whoa!” Max eased up as a taxi cut him off. However, instead of honking at him, the taxi drive merely stared out his rearview mirror, dumbly. Max grinned, still running, gave a little wave as he turned onto 56th. However, he quickly stopped as he heard a scream come from the alley to the right, just off the intersection.
“Sounds like someone’s in a pot ‘o piss.” Max stopped running, taking half the block to ease down to normal running speed. Turning back around, Max hurried to where he’d heard the scream, searching his pockets.
As he turned into the alley, he saw two men mugging a young couple. One man had a gun to the woman’s head, covering her mouth so that she couldn’t scream again. The husband was on his knees, taking off his ring from his left ring finger, his face bloody from just having been hit with something. The other man held a bag which he was stuffing the husband’s jacket into.
“Hurry it up man, or the girl’s history.” The man with the gun said just before he looked up and saw Max. “HEY! You, get the hell out of here! I’m warning you!”
Max palmed a quarter from his pocket of loose change, and slowly raised his arms in the air. Speaking calmly and taking a few steps toward the armed crook, Max said to the thief
“Hey now, careful. Ya don’t want to being doing what you’re doing here. I suggest you just put the gun down before someone gets hurt.”
The thief looked confused, then angry, cocking the hammer back on his six-shooter as Max stopped, less then 6 feet away.
“You know what? F*** it! Dave, get the loot while I ki..”
fffsssszzzzUNCK!Before the thief could finish talking, Max infused the coin with the right momentum, and with a flick of his upraised right hand, snapped the coin at the thief, sending it spinning at high velocity at his forehead, knocking him out cold.
“What the hell?” The man with the bag exclaimed as he stumbled backwards. Dropping the bag as he fell, he quickly scrambled up and started to run down the alley away from Max.
Max sighed, and muttered, “Why do they always run?”
Looking around, Max picked up a shoe from an open trashcan. Just as Max took back his arm to throw the shoe, the man stood up, right in line with Max’s aim. Charging the shoe with the proper momentum as his arm stopped, Max took a small step forward as he threw the shoe to the side. Watching the projectile almost hit the wall of the alley, Max leaned to the left as the shoe curved, hitting the thief in the back of the head just the man had time to turn the corner some 60 feet away. Sighing in relief that he’d hit his target, Max nodded to the couple.
“You two might want to call the cops. Don’t want those blokes getting away.”
The woman nodded slowly as her husband took out his phone with a shaky hand, both of them still shaken over the ordeal. Max turned and ran off again, glad that two more criminals where soon to be where they belonged: in jail.
