The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mike flopped in not long after... maybe an hour later. He was drained... he'd pushed his powers to the limit, and hadn't slept a wink since, not to mention how emotionally taxing everything was. He flopped right over next to her, one arm over her, and passed out.
"Eh, it's only barely afternoon. Hardly counts as past morning," Mike smiled, finally opening his eyes. "Mmmm... I can't remember the last time I slept like that..."
Mike leaned over and kissed her forehead. He wished he could go back and change the past couple days completely. He wished he could make everything better. He wished that he could just take all of this away from her.
He wished, somewhat, that she couldn't tell how helpless he felt... but it really didn't bother him that much.
But most of all, he wished he knew what they should do from here. That was the constant question... what COULD they do to make things right?
"You okay, baby?" he asked quietly, his eyes peering into hers.

"Stupid question." Daria spat without thinking.
"Sorry. I didn't mean that. I'm not okay yet, Mike. I don't think I'm ever going to be okay."
She thought for a while. "Actually, maybe that's the point. I wasn't 'programmed' to be alright with the world. I'm not supposed to be okay when things are messed up."

Daria smiled slightly.
"What can I say, Mike? I mean you know how it is when you wish for something so badly, you get it and it's just not what you expected. There were a few moments when I thought maybe everything would be okay. But.." She shook her head.
"I should be greatful I didn't come running home when I first found out I mutated."
"Like I said before... everything fits into the big picture... we just can't see where everything fits," he said quietly.
He reached gently into her mind. He was, after all, Cassiel... he could bring balance to everything. The pain didn't disappear, he didn't believe in numbing the pain when it wasn't necessary... but he tapped the part of her mind that was optimistic, her ability to see the good in things. It wasn't easy to look for the good in a situation like this when you were so close to the situation... but if you tried, you could.
In essence, she was doing all the work... he just gave a nudge to start the process.

"I mean on the bright side, I have the deed for the restaraunt. I'm in charge of it now. Like you said it's another success for mutants if all goes well. And I did get to see jonah again. Chances are he wouldn't have survived long. He's not a confined person and he has a short temper....had a short temper." she corrected.
She was vaguely aware that Mike had something to do with the silver lining she was seeing.
"Your um, wings last night. Kinda cool." She commented.
(Sorry I'm really not supposed to be here, but my gosh how powerfull is cassiel?? And just so you know I've been following the restarante plot for a while.)
Mike smiled, slightly embarassed. "Glad you like them... I really wasn't expecting that to happen, but I have to say, the results looked pretty bad-ass."
"By the way... speaking of 'on the bright sides,' I finally got the numbers on my inheritance yesterday..." he shook his head, a printout floating over to her. "Now I just have to figure out what to do with it."
