The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Bright light illuminated the shelves of the small shop tucked on an out of the way street off the main drag. Kai protested the whole way to the store, but his brother refused to give up this stupid idea.
“Cam, I don’t want to know more about herbs!” Or have anything to do with them- or any other plants ever again! Kai thought, though it was a little unfair perhaps. He still loved plants, but was afraid that he would hurt them if he got too close.
“You will once you get there!” was the cheery reply.
So here he was. In an herbalist’s shop, looking at small plants in small pots. The older Chinese woman behind the counter smiled at him. “Can I help you find anything, dearie? Motherwort or hops perhaps? They help relieve anxiety.”
“What- how could you-?” Kai didn’t really know what to say to that. He was feeling anxious, but he wasn’t anxious, if that made any sense.
The women pointed towards Kai’s elbow. “The Reishi likes you, but they think you are stressed.” The largish mushrooms were contorting themselves to wrap around his arm. Their soft pads tickled his sensitive elbow. He tugged his arm slightly, trying to get away but also trying not to do any damage, but the mushrooms held fast. He glared and mentally prodded them away, or at least, tried to.
For a second nothing happened, and then the mushrooms started growing bigger.
“Hey! Stop that!” But they kept growing and growing, the stalks elongating and wrapping around him like delicate vines. The caps were now the size of his hand. Please stop!?

It was a bright and cheery day in New York city. Well, as bright and cheery as one could feel post-breakup, riding the bus lines with a bandaged-up lizard boy. Shin and Koga had left early. Koga had wanted to go plant shopping for Katrina. Shin had decided to tag along, and grab her some 'thank you' tea, or something else pretty. It was his way of showing he appreciated her babysitting of Thor.
The ride on the bus had been fairly quiet. They attracted the occasional look from passerby. Some eyed Koga. Some eyed Shin's eyes. Shin still hadn't gotten completely used to either. Koga, with his new features. Himself, with his strange visual mutation. Both would take time. Until then, the least he could do was measure the distance between his seat and the door, again... and again.
The bus ride finally ended. Shin and Koga stepped off at the bus stop, within walking distance from the shop. A short walk later, the bell on the shop door jingled. Shin stepped in.
His eyes traveled over the pots and plants in the herbalist's shop, over the Chinese woman on-duty, and past the two brothers. The place seemed nice. A second look granted another thought.
Is that mushroom hugging that boy's arm? Um. Interesting. But hugging iss usually good, right? Shin mused cheerily.
Then, he blinked. The mushrooms were starting to grow.
Bright and cheery day my multicolored bottom!. Koga was having major self esteem issues, He could deal with the crazy eyes, he could deal with the ssssssssssss on a word with any sort of s. He would happily climb walls and change colors. But dang it his body was rebelling against any semblance of normal he had. He was getting used to who and what he was, how he looked and how he talked, and he was sure that it came off to most others that he was perfectly happy in his own skin. But now he was being stared at because people must be wondering if, he was A. a leper B. a mummy or C. burn victim. And he was not the happiest of burn victim leper mummies. Happiness aside he wanted o show Katrina he appreciated her for being there and he wanted to show her in a way that might also, say he was still sweet on her. He wanted to get Shin, Carrick and Doc Prof something too, but the Shin was coming along. And somehow he didn’t think Carrick was the type to appreciate a plant. Doc prof was probably too busy, but he could keep up with it for him he supposed.
He walked along with Shin and found it somewhat pleasant that both of them were in a sour mood, it was good company, if one of them were their normal self and the other was down, they’d ruin it for who ever was trying to mope by cheering them up until they were at least a bit happier. This way they both got to be quiet and contemplative, the walk along the side walk was quiet and for the most part they went un hindered by the typical pedestrian traffic.
As The pair of Asians entered the plant shop they both seemed struck by the oddity of the situation of what exactly they walked in on. Koga’s eyes went wide as he saw the thing’s grow, and ever since Christmas he had a certain paranoia for things that like to grow bigger than they should.
“Sssshin! Cut thossse thingsss in half! Hurry!” maybe if they could stop them before they got out of hand, they wouldn’t have to think about what kind of vehicle was best to run it over with.
Kai faintly heard the bell above the door ring behind him and tried to put on a calm and composed expression. The last thing he needed right now were anti-mutant customers to come and beat him up or… whatever they did when they caught mutants. The alternate scenario- one in which the newcomers tried to help and accidentally killed the mushrooms- was not ideal, either. So Kai prayed that they wouldn’t notice.
But his hopes were quickly dashed.
>>”Sssshin! Cut thossse thingsss in half! Hurry!” one of them told the other. Hmm… his accent was very interesting, or maybe he had a lisp? Curious, Kai turned his head to look at the two boys. One of them seemed fairly ordinary at first glance, except something seemed to be strange about his eyes- Kai couldn’t really get a good look at them, partially because of the strange appearance of the other one. He looked a little younger than Kai and… was his skin flaking off?
Not mutant hunters, then, but mutants. Just as bad, in his experience, if not worse. And they were going to kill the mushrooms!
“Cam!” he whispered under his breath, “DO something!” Kai half heartedly hoped that Cameron, whose powers seemed to be more under control than his, would come to his rescue. Even if it meant being teased for eternity. Unfortunately, Cam was all the way across the room- and mushrooms were supposed to be more of Kai’s forte anyway. He then renewed his efforts to try to shrink the mushrooms again, but they refused to pay any attention to his mental voice. Kai hated forcing plants to do what he wanted, but maybe it would be the only way to keep them safe??
He closed his eyes, visualizing his connection with the mushrooms, rather than feeling it in his mind. For an instant he could see how the parts of the mushroom worked together, and then he was taken closer, much like a microscope zooming in. Kai could see the different cells and found the ones that were multiplying rapidly…

>>”Sssshin! Cut thossse thingsss in half! Hurry!”
"Uuuuuuuh........" Couldn't that hurt him? Shin didn't know a whole lot about plant mutants, but he knew enough not to randomly cut plants when they were around, and okay, that thing was growing out of control. He had to cut it down.
A hand rose, and fingers flared. Shin imagined a single black triangle 3 inches wide flying across to room to bisect the mushroom. A moment later, the fungus dropped to the floor.
Shin took a step towards the kid, and let the shard vanish. His eyes were narrowed with concern. "You alright?"
Koga followed shin and took up an odd stance near the mushrooms eying them warily, if the fungus was anything like possessed clay it would still be on the attack. he perched there eyes flicking back and forth at the stump and the umbrella top of it ready to stomp or slap the wicked mushrooms.
Death by fungus, not while he was around....and uh he could tell Shin what to do. He was going to have to get Shin a ninja costume as well, those shards were too efficient to not be awesome ninja shurikens. though I guess they could just be awesome Shin-rikens and he might not be down with the ninja like he was.
Koga spared a glance for the victim wondering if he had been poisoned or stunned. He wasn't really sure. If there was a fault to Koga's Heroics it was one of four things: He pounced on what seemed to be a problem to quickly, experience told him that waiting for something bad to happen was simply letting things get worse. He tended to have to take off his clothes if he was required to use stealth. He often was a bit too righteous, once he thought he accomplished something good. Or the simple fact that He let instinct rule him once things got started.
At the moment however it seemed like things hung in the balance of the moment. maybe getting something for Katrina from this place was a bad idea, would it grow and attack her?
It was a very strange sensation to be both intimately connected and yet completely detached from another life-form at the same time. While he was examining the cells and comparing them to his own he was doing so as a scientist would- no connection, emotional or otherwise. At the same time, he felt the plant as a mental (and physical) presence, almost like an extension of himself.
He ordered the cells to stop multiplying, and let his microscope-vision-thing zoom out again.
Kai felt a stinging sensation on his arm. The mushroom was cut in half by a flying black… thing. It wasn’t painful per se, but he felt the connection between them separate.
>>“You alright?”
“Ah…” Kai wasn’t really sure whether or not he was ok. After a second, he was fine and there was no real pain. He looked at his arm where the plant had been wrapped around him. There were delicate green veins all around his elbow, though they were quickly disappearing. What was that? A physical connection to match the mental one?
“Yeah, uh, I think so.” So maybe the mutant boys were not evil, despite the fact that they looked strange. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to admit that he was a mutant, too. “My powers just, got away from me for a second. They were just being really friendly.”
The old Chinese woman made her presence known again. She pulled the mushroom towards her, “I’ll cut these up for your tea. It’ll help with your stress.”

>>“Ah…”
Was that a painful 'ah' or a 'ah, I see' sort of exclamation? Shin watched the boy for a minute, triangular pupils focusing on his face. The boy's eyes dropped to his arm, and Shin's eyes followed. Thin green veins wrapped their way around the kid's elbow. Shin tilted his head as they started to go away.
>>“Yeah, uh, I think so.”
The boy replied, finally. Shin's eyes rose to focus on face again.
"Okay." That was strange. Powers got away...? Shin nodded. "It happens."
He glanced back to Koga as the Chinese woman gathered things for tea. Powers getting away... "So, um... we were just about to get some potted plants and tea ourselves. You think Katrina likes mint tea?" Minty mint? "Or maybe, good ol' Green." Maybe Earl Grey?
Koga straitened his stance as the elderly woman came over to get the mush rooms, he knelt helping the little lady by getting the pieces off the ground so she wouldn't have to bend, she looked fully capable, probably the benefit of having herbal knowledge.
~~"My powers just, got away from me for a second. They were just being really friendly.”
**"It happens."
"oh man, I'm sssorry if we messssed sssomething up then, I just am a bit truamatized by growing inanimate objectsss...i learned the lesssson the hard way, that if you can ssstop them while they are sssmall, you ssshould do ssso".
"So, um... we were just about to get some potted plants and tea ourselves. You think Katrina likes mint tea?" "Or maybe, good ol' Green."
"Hmmm, she likes orange crock aid." Koga said non committed to tea decisions, His eyes went toward the bulbs of various small flowering plants. he nodded as he saw what he wanted begonias he wasn't sure what color they were but they were always pretty, and the fragrance was good too.
Koga let his eyes wander around the odd shop even as he gathered materials for what he would need to grow the two bulbs properly. it was a tuber so each one would produce multiple flowers.
‘Stop them small?’ I wonder what they ran into that made them think that way. Kai let it go as they started talking about kinds of tea that someone named Katrina would like.
He wanted to ask how they were so comfortable with being mutants- obvious-to-everyone-no-way-to-hide-it mutants. He wanted to ask why pretty much everyone else that he’d met so far seemed to be so angry. Angry about their powers, angry at humans, angry at each other. He wanted to ask where the little flying knife-thing had come from. There were so many questions, but which to start with?
He looked at the one with the skin condition and couldn’t keep himself from asking. “Who are you guys? And… I hope you don’t think I’m rude for asking, but… what happened to you?”

Shin looked to Koga with an arched eyebrow. "Growing inanimate objects...?" What was that about? He looked to the boy who'd been assaulted by the mushrooms with an apologetic smile. "Well, we did get it before it got huge..." He scratched the back of his head with a laugh. Though, if it was only the boy's powers getting away from him, he might not have been in serious trouble.
And orange crock aid? Uh, yeah. "Alright. Green tea, it is." Shin noted decisively. He glanced back towards the flowers around the shop.
For a moment, Shin forgot they were still talking with the boy. He was so distracted by the pretty things. Then, his comment brought Shin back.
>>“Who are you guys? And… I hope you don’t think I’m rude for asking, but… what happened to you?”
Shink blinked. He paused for a moment, then put a hand to his chest. "... Well, I'm Shin." His eyes went to Koga.
"No one told you guysss, that we ssslayyed a giant clay Cthulhu in central park, while you were all over ssseasss? it wasss what we did for Christmasss eve." he laughed lightly.
~~"Well, we did get it before it got huge..." Koga nodded as if it was still the best decision they made today.
**"Who are you guys? And… I hope you don’t think I’m rude for asking, but… what happened to you?”
~~"... Well, I'm Shin."
"And I am Ryuichi Koga, we're from Xavier'sss ssschool for the gifted, if you ever need a place to crasssh or are having trouble getting into ssschool drop by. Asss for what happened to me, I am ssstill mutating and well thisss round isss a bit more harsssh than lassst time." He shrugged lightly, the week before he might of snapped at the guy, today however, his sensibilities had won. and from this point so what he was more lizardy.
Koga smiled and picked up a couple red clay pots with soil and Begonia bulbs in them. " I found what I wanted."
The two introduced themselves as Shin and Ryuichi Koga. “I’m Kai. Nice to meet you. This moron,” he motioned to his brother who was disentangling himself from the shelves and finally making his way over to where the action was happening. “This is my brother, Cameron.”
Cam stuck out his hand. “Did I hear you say that you are mutating again? I thought that was just a hoax. You are what you are.. you know? Did’ya hear that Kai?! Our powers could keep growing and changing- isn’t that exciting?”
Kai knew that look. Cam was genuinely excited about this prospect while Kai was mortified. He couldn’t even control his powers NOW, let alone if they kept changing. How would he ever keep up? Or even catch up? And did he want to? He tried to school his expression, but had a feeling that he wasn’t doing a very good job of hiding his sheer and utter horror.

>>"No one told you guysss, that we ssslayyed a giant clay Cthulhu in central park, while you were all over ssseasss? it wasss what we did for Christmasss eve."
Shin's face paled ever so slightly. He laughed it off. "Uh, no." Silly kid. Cthulu? "You'll have to tell me about that some other time..."
He introduced himself to the boy, and Koga gave him the 'business'. Shin tried not to laugh. He returned his focus to the boy and his brother.
>>“I’m Kai. Nice to meet you. This moron,” “This is my brother, Cameron.”
His brother, who happened to be named Cameron. Shin smiled. His smile vanished slightly at 'Cameron's comment.
Change wasn't always a good thing. Shin had changed recently, too. Shin shrugged. "I guess it's natural for mutants to change over time... sometimes. Though, I'd think it'd be a bit more rare." He held his chin, considering. It was actually kind of exciting, like a powerup in some sort of video game. Crash Bomb, Get. All that... but.
>>“So- a school?”
Changing the subject. "Yeah. It's a school for mutants. Nice place," Shin added. He glanced over to Koga as the boy announced his find.
"Great. I'll go ask the lady for some tea, then." He motioned towards the woman. Then, he walked over, and asked. "Some green tea, please."
The woman nodded, and brought him a decent-sized package. Shin thanked her, and looked to Koga. "That it?"
~~"Uh, no." "You'll have to tell me about that some other time..."
“Oh, sssure. “ Yeah…introduce your school and tell them you fight clay giants…maybe not the best recruitment policy.

>>“So- a school?”
“I Don’t know, right now it isss sssucking. I feel like a mummy. I’ll deal once they ssstop growing, but until thessse ssspikes sssettle I think mummy mode isss kind of fail.”
"Yeah. It's a school for mutants. Nice place,"
“too nice.” Koga added.
~~"Great. I'll go ask the lady for some tea, then"Some green tea, please."
"That it?"
“gotta pay, but yeah thisss isss what I came for. You two want to check out Xavier’sss”? sister school…blah blah blah blah. “Plenty of ssspace to attempt to get your powersss under control.” The las t was said with a bit of hope. Koga wanted everyone’s world to be as vibrant as his own.
