The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Well that was good brain fodder. "You WHAT?" She knew they were dating. She didn't know a thing about their actual relationship, but... maybe it was the way he phrased it. Leaving Kasumi. Wasn't dating la kind of leave-no-man-behind kind of thing? Really, she hadn't dated too much before she married so... maybe she didn't know.
Ghost went to fill her bucket with water again because she'd slopped some out of it after the sponge. She measured out a lid full of bleach and the strong scent already started to combat the other less palatable scents. Bleach was a familiar and calming scent.
Rubber gloves. Check. Dry bucket, wet bucket. Check, check. Mental distraction... "Why? Uh-if you don't mind me asking." The sponge was recovered from the floor and dunked into the wet bucket, wrung out and then used to steer the liquid on the table into the dry bucket.

... Plop. A sponge-splattery sound.
>>"You WHAT?"
Shin winced.
There's always a good sign. You tell the friend of the friend of the girlfriend you're leaving her, and the friend of the friend shouts. It made no difference in this situation that the friend of the friend of the girlfriend was Ghost, or that Shin was the friend of girlfriend. That was just things being needlessly overcomplicated.
And complicated. That's exactly what his reasons behind the decision were.
Shin leaned forward in the chair. The walking stick bopped from palm to palm, thoughtfully, as he listened. His eyes were already closed. If it were possible, he closed them tighter, to block out the shock.
Sounds of movement and water splashes met his ears again. They shook hands until Ghost was ready to say something further, beyond sheer surprise.
>>"Why? Uh-if you don't mind me asking."
"Because I'm worried I won't be able to fight if she's part of the team... because I'm worried I'll mess up, and I'm worried about worrying, and ultimately... I'm worried she'll get hurt." Shin mourned.
The walking stick again hopped. Right palm, left palm. Right palm, left palm. A contemplative intake and exhalation of air. "I got thrown into camps for the stupidest reason ever, Ghost... and now I'm worried I'll make the same mistake again and again."
Slurpy, scoopy, runny, gross, sometimes lumpy. It didn't even bother her today with her brain facing backwards to the Shin behind her.
"Wouldn't that be a reason to quite the team rather than quit a part of your life? Not that I want you to leave the team, but I also want what is best for you." Maybe it came of being his employer, friend, and teammate. She was really only friends with Kasumi because Kasumi was good friends with Shin.
"Everybody messes up, Shin." They were both in the camps. That was testament to how well they were both doing in the don't-screw-up department. It was especially embarassing for her since she could slip through anyone's fingers. Well... anyone but him.
Suddenly the red slop in front of her was a bit overwhelming. Most of the mess was in the bucket now. She just had to step away and look at something else for a bit.
"If it's really what you think is best..." Must not touch hair. Must not touch hair.

>>"Wouldn't that be a reason to quite the team rather than quit a part of your life? Not that I want you to leave the team, but I also want what is best for you."
Shin shook his head. It pained him to think it, but being strong, and being on the team came before that. He'd wanted to help everyone around him long before Kasumi had confessed her feelings for him. He couldn't give up on that now. Even if she was important...
>>"Everybody messes up, Shin."
And he couldn't ask her to leave. They both had joined because they were living with determination.
And he couldn't do that to her... and he couldn't... he lost track of Ghost as he slumped in thought.
What had she been saying? Messing? Messes?
He turned in her direction. He didn't hear much sponging anymore. Maybe, she was done? Or maybe... it had become too much?
>>"If it's really what you think is best..."
Her comment came to him, and caused him to lose himself in the thoughts again. Did he? Did he, really...?
He wanted to ask Ghost what she thought, but... she was in a bad situation right now. It'd be awfully self-centered to worry just about his own little relationship. Shin turned he chair back towards the white-haired woman, and frowned.
"Sorry... I'll have to think on that on my own, I guess. Do you need... help? Doing what you're doing?" What was she doing? Could he help? Was it cleaning?
Maybe it'd help get his mind off the worrying while he was thinking about the thingy.
"Actually talking about something else helps a lot." He didn't have to get up. She was silly to think he could help without his sight. Not that he was inept, but that it would be a little cruel for him.
She wanted to talk about the green-eyed man, but this was so not the time and so not the place. It never seemed to be the right time or place. Maybe she should just make that mistake.
"Do you remember the guy that hurt Koga's arm? The one with green eyes?"
She refrained from talking about his other deeds. Shin knew the one.
Ghost squeezed out the sponge and dipped it into the clean bleach laden bucket. There were red streams for a little bit but they diluted into a faint pink. All blood could be washed away. Every mistake could be righted.
She squeezed out the now clean-again sponge and went to grab a dry towel. Wax on, wax off. The table would be shining again in time for its next victim.

>>"Actually talking about something else helps a lot."
Well, he could do that. What did she want to talk abou--
>>"Do you remember the guy that hurt Koga's arm? The one with green eyes?"
--t. Shin felt the need to fall silent. He didn't go with it.
"The one who hurt you." He left the man's descriptions of dastardly deeds at that. He knew the one. He was sure he knew she knew he knew she knew he knew she knew the one. He knew. Just like he knew about the person who'd hurt Kasumi before. Through word of mouth, and drastic scenarios. If anyone hurt his friends like that man had hurt Ghost, how could he not? He made it his business to know about them.
But why did Ghost want to talk about that guy now?
>>"What do you think he's doing now?"
Shin's head sunk. He had no idea. "Probably out there, wandering. Doing bad things..." He wanted to say the guy was behind bars, or defeated, or even demised, but Shin was starting to think like a realist. He'd realized his head had been too far in the clouds, up till now. There were too many pits men could fall into. "But if he ever shows his face around you again," Shin muttered. "Just know, I'll protect you."
All he could do was comfort her with that thought.
"I know." Shin would take care of her. He had before. Ghost was surprisingly chipper despite their subject matter and her situation. She wiped the last trace of blood from the cart. All that was left was the smell of bleach and shining metal. Oh. And that troublesome bucket of guts.
"I like to imagine he's been hit by a bus." It was probably the darkest fantasy she ever let herself entertain, but there was something… satisfying about watching the scenario play out in her head. Green eyes was going after an old woman's purse, not paying attention to the traffic as he jay walked, littered AND smoked.
It happened fast. It happened quiet. No one even noticed the bump on the bus with all the pot holes. No one mourned him and he officially no longer existed.
He was probably the only person she had ever actually not cared if he got hurt. It was the blood speaking. For sure. Ghost balled up the towels and handed them to Shin so that she could use both hands to heft the bucket. "Thanks for you help. Sorry about 'Sumi."
There would be other messes and other heart to hearts, but for now, this one was done.
