The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

His….bum. Tarin winced for the kid, definitely not a place he’d ever choose for a tatt. At least not sober and in complete possession of his mental faculties. Who was this Abyss guy? And why had he done such a weird thing, Tarin didn’t know, so he asked, ”So you know the guy did it on purpose…because you took his motorcycle? Doesn’t seem to make much sense to me. Once we figured out we were sharing each other’s bodies, Tyranny and I got along famously. She even buffed me up a little. I’ll say one thing for the girl, she’s a drill sergeant in the weight room. The power nullification doesn’t hurt either. I never realized how good I’d gotten at dealing with it all until I didn’t have to.”
Shin complemented Tarin’s restraint and the Medium chuckled, shaking his head, ”Oh Shin, I sowed a field of wild oats before I settled down. Once I found Lee though….I’ve never even wanted anything else. Besides, being in a position of power over someone else’s body like that? It seemed wrong to even think about….that. I know Rupert looked his fill at Lee…still frosts my ass. Can’t say that I really blame him though….I’d look at her all day if I could.”
Tarin paused for a moment, reflective in the dark of the camp. It wasn’t quiet, people were coughing and rolling around on their bunks. It was late enough, though, that it was almost peaceful…until another spirit went by. Tarin clenched his jaw, but this one came closer than the other had and his hands clenched on the sides of the mattress. He willed it to go away, and that triggered the collar even more, pulling a strangled growl from his throat. Finally, the ethereal being moved on and Tarin lay panting on his bunk for a few moments. What was that last thing Shin had said?
”I never tried the heels…but if you swear to God not to tell anyone, I’ll admit something.” he said, voice a little hoarse, ”It was kind of fun getting all dolled up the couple of times I put the effort out.”

"No, no, no, I took his motorcycle while I was in his body. Extenuating circumstances. I left a note. Okay, not really with the note. But I meant to. Things just got out of hand... and, wait. Power nullification?" That was weird. Hadn't Ghost said something a while back about... maybe... hmm... it was strange, regardless. Though, having someone around to do that might be useful...
Note to self: Test that out. Though, if power nullification is connected to power in eyes, be careful.
... Maybe not...
Shin did his best not to open his eyes and stare at Tarin at the mention of 'wild oats'. Wild oats? "Dun follow. Anyways... yeah. Position of power... they shot at me... then, I got hit by a car... the rest is foggy..." Shin frowned.
"As for 'dressing up'? ... well..." His voice dropped to a whisper. "That's weird." Cough cough. "But, uh... Confidentially speaking, older sisters are pretty bad about playing 'dress up' with their younger brothers... lil pink dresses. And, uh... I didn't say a thing." Shin zipped his lip with a smirk, and threw away the key.

Tarin nodded in the dark again, when Shin described the circumstances around the motorcycle theft. It made sense, and sometimes you just had to do what you had to do. Tarin wasn’t going to judge, he’d done some less than savory things in his day too.
Shin seemed interested in the power nullification and Tarin hmmmm’d in his bunk, ”Yeah, whatever she could do….was like an automatic off switch for mutant powers. It was crazy.” Tarin lapsed into thought again and shook his head, the last thing he wanted to think about was Lee in Rupert’s body. It had been bad enough when it had actually been happening. Reliving it wasn’t his idea of a good time.
Shin was confused by Tarin’s phrase about wild oats and the older man picked up his head and looked at the younger one through the dark. Was he really getting that old? ”It means that I had my share of women…I played the game, and played it well.”
Shin echoed Tarin’s thoughts about being in a position of power over someone else’s body. Apparently Shin’s thoughts had moved in a completely different, more Godzilla-like, direction. That was probably the better direction.
Quid-pro-quo, for his shared cross-dressing experience, Tarin heard tales of Shin’s childhood. Forced dress wearing hadn’t ever been something Tarin was subjected to. It was probably a perk of growing up with two brothers instead of a sister. There wasn’t really any more to say about it, Tarin wasn’t going to rub it in, after all.
”I’ll tell you what though, Shin. Lot’s of men are pigs. I never even realized, and I was probably firmly in their ranks until recently.”

"Oh. What game. Basketball?" Shin faked 'dumb'. "Because Slate sucks at basketball. He's your boss, isn't he? Maybe, you could teach him." Shin bluffed knowledge with a shrug.
Tarin had mentioned Slate earlier. They'd been in Romania together. Maybe Tarin had gotten secretarial work with someone or something. It made sense... though, why Slate had been both here, and at King's Pharmaceuticals for the fighting, he couldn't fathom.
Shin paused innocently as Tarin mentioning men as swine. Shin tilted his head. "I don't think I've ever been a pig around women... though Abyss in my body did ask the nurse at the mansion to take a shower with me... er, him..." Shin tugged at his collar, suddenly embarrassed. "Sam's girlfriend said 'no', by the way. In case you were wondering..." They still hadn't had that conversation. Best leave it under wraps. "Explaining that situation was messy, though. Let me tell you..."

Tarin chuckled out loud when Shin asked if he was talking about basketball. Surely the kid was joking…or then again, maybe he wasn’t. Tarin stared at the bottom of the bunk in disbelief as Shin kept right on talking about basketball…how bad Slate was at it, in fact. ”I never was very good myself…too short.” he commented, still a little shocked, ”Not that kind of game though…you know ‘don’t hate the player, hate the game’?” If the other stuff hadn’t registered, that line wouldn’t.
”The game of…love, sex, all that good stuff, Shin. I played for a long time. The thing about stuff like that is…you mean about as much to a one night stand as she means to you. After a while, if you do it enough, you start to believe that’s all you’re good for.”
Tarin wouldn’t have figured Shin for the piggish type, so hearing the words from his mouth wasn’t a surprise. What was a surprise was the fact that while in the body switch, he’d apparently propositioned Sam’s girlfriend. At that, Tarin burst out laughing, probably louder than was appropriate at this time of night in a concentration camp.
”He better not have come down too hard on you for that. He kissed my wife once.”

>>”Not that kind of game though…you know ‘don’t hate the player, hate the game’?”
Whaaaaat? The 'don't hate the player' game? What ever could Tarin be talking about~?
"Tell me," Shin smirked. Not that he couldn't already guess. It was far more entertaining when they had to come out and say it.
>>”The game of…love, sex, all that good stuff, Shin..."
Thank you. Now was that so hard? Shin faked shock. "I never would have guessed." A pause. He took on a more sincere tone. "But, seriously. I getcha. I've dated a few girls in my time, too..." Though never for 'one night stands'. That wasn't the way he played. Shin played for snuggling-keeps.
And.
Wait. Was Tarin laughing...? Why, what ever could have-- oh, right. There was some animosity between the two, Sam and him, wasn't there? And, wait.
"He... kissed your wife... sheesh. Was she your wife at the time, too? Man." Shin shook his head. It was kind of amusing (a definite plus for 'camps talk'. PS: why were they laughing in a mutant concentration camp, loud enough for a sleeping Slate to hear? Awkward). "I knew Sam was friendly. I trust him to have my back in a fight, but... to be checking out another man's woman's back while the guy's back is turned?" Cheap fighting was one thing. Cheap 'hitting on people' was an entirely different beast. "I honestly hope he's more loyal to Alex."

Tarin smirked in the dark as Shin said he never would have guessed at Tarin’s previous ‘player’ status. There was sarcasm there, the Medium was sure of it. Shin continued and confirmed that thought, adding in the fact that he’d dated a couple of girls in his own time. Somehow the older man had a feeling that dating had a completely different meaning to him and Shin. It was unspoken, but the words hung in the air between them. Tarin was happy for the kid, his way was definitely not the way to do things.
Ahh the Sam situation, nothing like the memory of pure, jealous rage to clear the mind and bring a person back around to the problem at hand. Shin asked a question and Tarin scowled, there was no way he’d tell the whole story, it probably would have peeled the skin from Shin’s face. Figuratively speaking, of course. The situation deserved a little explanation, though, Tarin sighed, ”No. We weren’t married at the time. I guess technically we weren’t even together… we were living together though. Lee had just come home from Toronto…he took the kiss without asking. I think Lee broke his ribs. ” That had been after the murders. After Lee had saved him, but still hadn’t been able to bring back what they’d had. Sam had taken advantage of the situation.
Shin pointed out that he hoped Sam was more loyal to his current girl, and Tarin felt a little guilty for his words. Sam was the X-leader and Shin was under his orders. It wasn’t right to tear down someone’s boss like that.
”I’m sure I’m overreacting a bit…and I’m sure he’s great to his girl. It’s just…he’s the type of guy to make a guy like me’s hackles rise a bit when we’re in the same vicinity.” It was true, Sam was the type of guy who’d kicked Tarin’s ass in high school and while the guy didn’t come off as a bully, he just emanated that cocky jock attitude that gave Tarin a bad taste in his mouth. There was no help for it.
”You know. You’re not so bad to have in a fight either, Shin. I’ve seen you in action a few times. You were really good at the bombing.”

Wow. Living together... and not married. Shin didn't judge. Still, it was interesting hearing about Tarin and Lee's relationship. He hadn't spent much time with Tarin since he'd helped Lee during the man's 'coma'. He liked catching up... even if here was a horrible place to catch up in. He hadn't heard most of the stories the man had to tell.
Especially the one about Lee breaking Sam's ribs. Shin shook his head. "Ow. Just another reminder to men everywhere to stay on a woman's good side, heh?"
He certainly hoped Sam was being a gentleman with Alexandra... if he got on her bad side. Hmm. Broken ribs would be welcomed, in place of arrow-flinging and molecular destruction. Could Alex even do that, Shin wondered. Maybe not... but still...
>>”I’m sure I’m overreacting a bit…"
Tarin added.
>>"…and I’m sure he’s great to his girl. It’s just…he’s the type of guy to make a guy like me’s hackles rise a bit when we’re in the same vicinity.”
"There are some guys..." Shin trailed. Like the thugs who'd tried beating up his cousin. Shin's mind fluttered back to that point. Tarin's next comment only helped remind him of the one good punch to the leader's gut that got him on his side.
>>"You know. You’re not so bad to have in a fight either, Shin. I’ve seen you in action a few times. You were really good at the bombing.”
Heh. "Thanks. Though... after all of this, I'm gonna have to do some serious training... I mean... I can handle a fight with one guy, maybe even floor a thug with a single punch, but... they got me with TASERs... and I was distracted... sad confession time?"
Shin took a breath. "That whole 'distraction' thing was about as serious as my worrying about confessing to Jaxon that I'd hugged her when Kasumi was in her body..." He sighed. "Suppose it all sounds stupid now, but that was the bulk of it... that's not... cheating, is it? Hugging your girlfriend while she's in someone else's body? It was one of the major ethical questions I had during that whole 'body swap'...... thingy."
Body. Swap. Thingies. Made him lose sight of the situation. "Please don't tell Sam that." Shin muttered after a while. It was too embarrassing to handle.

Shin didn’t need to finish his statement for Tarin to nod his head, put simply there were those kinds of guys. Sam was one of them, at least to Tarin. He was probably one of those guys to Sam. It was just the way of the world…and testosterone. Then Shin started talking about training. Tarin’s interest peaked and an eyebrow rose in the dark. People actually trained with their powers. That was interesting.
”You know Shin…I’ve never really spent much time training with my powers. I have to use them to function on a daily basis, so I guess the training kind of came on its own. Not that I couldn‘t use a little help with that whole astral projection thing. Getting stuck out of my body really wasn‘t a good thing.”
Then Shin unloaded. Figuratively and emotionally speaking. Drama seemed to attract itself to this relationship the younger man was in. There had been issues during the body switch. Tarin almost laughed out loud again when Shin asked if hugging his girlfriend in someone else’s body was cheating. That would have been rude though, really rude. Shin was serious, beating himself up about the fact that he’d hugged that body. Tarin shook his head again in the dark, ”It’s not cheating Shin, you’re not with the girl for the body she’s in. If that sort of thing was cheating during the body-swap…Lee and I are in serious trouble.”
It was quiet then for a few moments, then Shin spoke and Tarin’s heart really went out to the kid. ”As long as you don’t bring up all the stuff about Sam to Lee, your secret is safe with me.
An idea occurred to Tarin and he rolled it around in his head for a moment, Shin didn’t necessarily sound happy in his role with the X’s. Would it be possible to seduce the kid away from the mansion? Tarin opened his mouth to say something, then closed it. There was only so cynical a person could become, ”I wouldn’t say anything anyway. Everyone has doubts Shin, I’m glad you asked me.”

Daily basis. Yeah, Shin had a feeling he'd be having that with whatever he was dealing with now. Whether or not that was good, he had no idea... what would one call that, anyways? Power... biggening... power... enlargening... power strengthening?
Power Growth.
There we are. Power Growth.
>>”It’s not cheating Shin, you’re not with the girl for the body she’s in. If that sort of thing was cheating during the body-swap…Lee and I are in serious trouble.”
" . . . " Jaxon had been cool with it, too. Was there some kind of 'cuddle code' where cuddling suddenly wasn't serious? Was snuggling also less severe? Drastic hugging, less drastic? It boggled his mind.
Ah, well. It was just a fact of the world he'd eventually have to embrace. Not everything was a hopeless romantic like him.
>> ”As long as you don’t bring up all the stuff about Sam to Lee, your secret is safe with me." "I wouldn’t say anything anyway. Everyone has doubts Shin, I’m glad you asked me."
Shin shook his head at Tarin's final comments.
"Thanks. And I won't."
Idly, he wondered if everything with Kasumi was still salvageable. He'd messed up. He'd failed.
Epic fail.
He was weak, and all that crap... another sigh escaped him. He was too tired to contemplate this junk. At least he had Tarin to talk with. That helped. Maybe he was beating himself up... but the fact remained, he had to do something...
Whatever it was, he'd leave to another day.
Shin rolled over to his side with a faint yawn. "Night, Tarin..."
