The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She could immediately tell she made Maya uncomfortable. "I'm sorry. I was just curious. You both act wierd around each other sometimes. I was wondering if there was a reason." It did make Henrietta curious. What did it mean? Was there something there or was it just awkwardness? Smiling, Rapunzel changed the subject.
"So, what do you like to do in your free time? It sounded like you enjoy dancing too. How long have you been doing it?" Standing up, she did part of a dance from when she was in jazz. She watched her feet and when she was done, she looked up and grinned at the girl. Taking a small bow, Henrietta sat back down. Now she would wait to see if the girl had any moves of her own.
>>"I'm sorry. I was just curious. You both act weird around each other sometimes. I was wondering if there was a reason."
Maya blushed and shrugged again. Henri didn't mean to make her uncomfortable. Right. It was not her fault that Miss Maya couldn't react like a friggin' grown-up.
"'sokay" she muttered "'tis my fault I s'pose. I'm not used to havin' friends aroun' me." Let alone girls like Bubblegum.
>>"So, what do you like to do in your free time? It sounded like you enjoy dancing too. How long have you been doing it?"
Yup, Maya was glad for the topic change. She smiled as she watched Rapunzel dance. Looked like she enjoyed it too. She'd been joking about the dance team earlier, but she was staring to think it might not be a completely useless idea...
"Not half bad" Maya grinned once the demonstration was over. Then she did what she did for Twyla back in the park, because it was an easy move: rolling onto her back with one smooth movement she pushed herself up on her hands. She could hold it for a long while... under other circumstances, because as soon as she was up, she realized she was still wearing Gawain's clothes, and the T-shirt started sliding dangerously down... up... on her stomach. Oops. Flipping back onto her feet she spun around, pulled the shirt back down and grinned.
"I never actually took classes... I guess most of what I do is street dancin'. All the rest I picked up in clubs an' such." she shrugged "Mom liked dancin', she taught me some too."
Flopping back down onto the couch, Maya was silent for a while. "I like reading too. Other than that... mostly I just walk around in mirrors an' mess with people." she concluded with a small, proud smile on her lips.
The girl agreed with Rapunzel's decision. Drop the topic. Henri could handle that. She would just have to keep the conversation going about other things. Hmm...Other things...While she was thinking, the other girl got up and began to move.
After Maya had concluded her dance, Henrietta clapped. "That was awesome. Your mom must've been a good dancer." After thinking a moment, she added, "And the street and club dancers." Henri grinned at the girl. "I should give credit where credit is due, right?" After saying it outloud, she realized how ridiculous she must've sound. Deciding to focus on something else, she continued to listen. The girl said she also liked to read!
"Really? Me too. Well, not the mirror thing, but the reading part." The brunette smiled slightly. She assumed that was obvious, but part of her decided to add it all the same.
>>"I should give credit where credit is due, right?"
Maya laughed "Yeah ya should. I bet they'd appreciate it too." Oh they would. They would especially appreciate it coming from a pretty girl like Rapunzel.
>>"Really? Me too. Well, not the mirror thing, but the reading part."
The mirror girl chuckled at that. She was starting to see why Twyla liked Henri so much. They apparently had a lot in common. And not only the obvious things - their love for dancing and stuff - but also their personalities, the friendly, shy, cheerful and totally adorable girlish attitude that Maya never really picked up, and Gawain was damn glad she didn't. S/he liked it in others though.
"And what do ya like to read, Princess?" she asked curiously, putting her feet back on the table.
There were lots of different types of things. A lot of it depended on her mood. Most people would probably never be able to guess that she liked Sci-Fi or fantasy stories best. That would partly be due to the fact that she didn't tell anyone, but she trusted Maya. "I like fantasy type of things." Henri felt her face get a little red.
"You didn't tell me what you like to read, Maya..." That's right, point the topic back on her and drift off of my nerdiness.
And she blushed too. Maya couldn't really tell what caused the blush; fantasy didn't really sound like something you need to be embarrassed about.
"That's cool, I like fantasy." she grinned "Read a bunch o' them along the way."
>>"You didn't tell me what you like to read, Maya..."
The mirror girl shrugged. "Pretty much anythin' I can lay my hands on..." Literally. Before she moved into the Mansion, Maya used to be a regular book thief - although she mostly returned the books to a shop after she was finished with them, they were too heavy to always carry around.
"... I'm partial to mythology and legends." she concluded with a smirk "Surprise, surprise."
>> "That's cool, I like fantasy. Read a bunch o' them along the way. Pretty much anythin’ I can lay my hands on…I'm partial to mythology and legends. Surprise, surprise."
Henrietta smiled at the girl. “Most kids like what they grow up with. If your mom really liked mythology, it makes sense that you do too.” To keep her hands busy, the brunette began to braid a small portion of hair on the front, right side. “My mother’s a big fan of romance novels, but I’ve never taken a strong liking to them. I like there to be romance, but also some weird stuff. Keeps things interesting.”
Rapunzel glanced at the clock. Time was sure passing by fast. The saying was true, time flies when you’re having fun. Henri enjoyed talking to Maya and she was sure that Gawain would be interesting to talk to as well. She’d have to talk to them on a guy day sometime. She had finished the braid and set it down. Trying to hide it, she let out a small yawn.
((Thanks! I made the avi and Twyla made the sigi. ))
>>“Most kids like what they grow up with. If your mom really liked mythology, it makes sense that you do too. My mother’s a big fan of romance novels, but I’ve never taken a strong liking to them. I like there to be romance, but also some weird stuff. Keeps things interesting.”
Maya nodded in agreement. Yes, weird stuff definitely could keep romance interesting. Interesting to the point of being infuriatingly unlikely. She wondered how all this worked outside the novels, here in the mutant world. She'll just have to wait and find out.
Henri yawned, and Maya unconsciously mirrored her. A moment later she realized it, and started to chuckle. "All right, Rapunzel, I dunno 'bout ya, but I'm ready to turn in." she said, standing up from the couch, and picking up her book too "Thanks for keepin' me company." she smiled at Henri, offering her a hand to help her up from the floor.
What a weird night. The first person who'd seen her shift, and a very friendly one too. A thought emerged in the back of Maya's head; she was not sure she wanted to pursue it, but it was late at night, and the conversation had gone so well so far, she decided to ask anyway.
"Um, Henri, can I ask ya somethin'?..." she didn't really know how, so she just went with the first question that popped into her mind "...Ya've seen me shift, right?..." she could feel color creeping onto her cheeks, gosh this is gonna sound weird "How does it look like?..."
>> "All right, Rapunzel, I dunno 'bout ya, but I'm ready to turn in. Thanks for keepin' me company."
Henrietta nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I think it’s about that time.” Part of her didn’t want it to be, but the rest of her was exhausted. Smiling, she took the girl’s hand in her own. It made the standing up process a lot quicker. “It was my pleasure, Maya. It’s always nice to make a new friend.” Rapunzel was now on her feet. “We’ll definitely have to hang out sometime.”
>> "Um, Henri, can I ask ya somethin'?....Ya've seen me shift, right?..."How does it look like?..."
“Hmm…” The girl looked embarrassed, but Henri didn’t find it weird. She grinned at the girl to assure her there was nothing odd about the question. “Well, your hair gets quite a bit longer and it seemed like your facial features altered a little. You can definitely tell which you’re turning into. It’s kind of like watching those animated computer things where you can make a person morph into another.” She hoped that made sense. The brunette didn’t know how else to explain it.
"I didn't see anything awkward happen..." She threw in.
>>“It was my pleasure, Maya. It’s always nice to make a new friend. We’ll definitely have to hang out sometime.”
"Definitely" Maya nodded in agreement with a grin "Now that ya know the both of me it's easier to schedule..."
She waited a bit anxiously to hear Henri's answer to her question. She really wanted to know how an outsider saw her shifting. So far only Mom had seen it, but mothers don't count in matters like this. They love their gender-shifting mutant children way too much to tell the truth about appearances.
>>“Well, your hair gets quite a bit longer and it seemed like your facial features altered a little. You can definitely tell which you’re turning into. It’s kind of like watching those animated computer things where you can make a person morph into another.... I didn't see anything awkward happen..."
Maya let out the breath she had been holding, and the smile was back on her face. "Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear... Y'know I never actually seen myself change. Most of the time it happens when I'm asleep." she explained "And so far no one else had seen it. So. I'm glad it didn't freak ya out."
With that said, Maya walked over to the mirror, and placing her palm against it she merged with her reflection. "Sweet dreams, Rapunzel. See ya around." she winked, and she was gone.
Before Henrietta could say anything to the girl, she was gone. She was glad to have made a new friend, even if it was in the wee hours of the morning. The brunette hoped that maybe someday Twyla, Maya, and her could all hang out. She smiled to herself. That'd be fun...
Yawning, she staggered back to bed. Pulling back the covers, she got in. After turning off the light next to her bed, she drifted off into sleep....
