The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tarin saw the look on Lee’s face out of the corner of his eye and slowly turned his head to meet her gaze. Why did she have to look at him like that when they were in public. Sure he knew that the whole Texas thing did things to his wife, great things, but she’d practically made it necessary for him to give a demonstration. Still, the way she was looking at him, Tarin looked back and suddenly his mouth felt really dry. Good god.
Luckily Lee spoke and for the time being Tarin refrained from making a spectacle of them in the middle of the bar. He took a drink of beer and listened to Lee’s retelling of the story from when they’d met with immigration. It sounded outlandish, but as she spoke, he couldn’t keep a wide smile off of his face. “At least they stopped questioning the legitimacy of our arrangement.” He said, then chuckled, “The look on that nasty ice queen’s face when she threatened to have us fined for public indecency will remain etched in my pleasant memories forever.”
So maybe it was a bit of an overshare. It was a needed change of subject, but not nearly as intriguing as Kealey’s announcement. Tarin was still having a tough time trying to get over that one, but the obvious discomfort on the blonde’s face made it a little easier. Jacen performed his own skillful subject change and started talking about the park. Tarin didn’t say anything, just sighed and shook his head. This was exactly why he didn’t like Lee running in the park at night. They’d been well over that though, and now was not the time for the discussion. Besides, the new apartment had a fitness room that was pretty much worth its weight in gold. Not that Tarin had used it at all…but he was pretty sure Lee was going to wear it out.
Lee asked why Jacen thought it was a good idea to carry a bow in his truck and Tarin had to agree. A gun made sense, especially because Jacen was a cop…but a bow? It was slightly outlandish. Lee had already asked the question though, and Tarin didn’t feel the need to repeat. What he did feel the need t o do, was reach out and snake an arm around Lee’s waist and pull her and her seat closer. There was nothing wrong with that, right?
Jacen pointed out how often times powerful things came in small packages, and Kealey, obviously recovered from the beer incident took the opportunity to make a toast. Tarin grinned at it and shook his head, participating in the toast and taking a drink that brought his beer to less than a fourth full. He looked at Lee, then kissed her cheek and whispered in her ear, “What do you say we get out of here after this one, or would that be rude?”
Without meaning to, Lee and Tarin were deffinately providing to much information about how they had proved themselves a real couple. It didn't take a lot of imagination to picture the two of them locked in a room and when the jailer's returned... well let's just say that even the sight of Lee's beauty might have been hard pressed to overcome the sight of Tarin's... yeah.
"I'm a hunter." Jacen explained shortly, a slight grin on his face as he watched the somewhat incredulous expressions appear on both Lee and Tarin, "I keep my Glock in the truck as well but my recurve bow and arrows are on a rack in the back window. I happen to like deer jerkey and venison but I only hunt what I can eat. No mounting heads or anything like that."
Jacen knew it had to be strange for the two of them to hear an apparent "city boy" talking about hunting but that was just a part of life for him. After his time in the military the great outdoors had just become a way of life. In fact, if he wasn't so interested in the action provided by S.W.A.T. he probably would have considered a career as a guide out west or in the far north.
Jacen returned his focuse to Kealey as he raised his bottle to clink it with the rest. Lee and Tarin's comments about how they had proved that they were a real couple was making him begin to think about his own status with a certain young woman. Had they even really talked about what they were? There was no way that he was going to accept something like 'friends with benefits' from Kealey and somehow he doubted that was what she wanted either. Maybe that was something for them to discuss in the very near future. Along with what sorts of intimate apparel she would allow him to buy her.
"To small packages." He agreed, a grin on his face as he remember just how much bedroom dynamite was stored in this small blond.

Kealey listened idly as Tarin and Lee explained how they’d convinced immigration that they were a legitimate couple instead of people trying to trick a green card out of the government. They were sure saying a whole lot of nothing in a whole lot of sentences though. Kealey looked at the couple thoughtfully while she took a drink of beer and suddenly Lee’s slightly heated look, pink cheeks, and Tarin’s almost smug little smile fell together like pieces in a dirty puzzle and Kealey’s eyes widened to about the size of the coasters their beers were sitting on. Questions about the sheer logistics of that situation sprang to mind, but Kealey was too embarrassed to ask. These were things one usually didn’t talk about in a crowded bar, even if Tari and Lee didn't seem to have trouble reminiscing.
Kealey had to smile a bit, despite her red cheeks, it was a convincing way to get immigration off your back. She shook her head and took another drink of the beer. Immigration hadn’t been a problem for her, at least so far, and with a student visa she had several years of time before she had to decide if she wanted to stay.
Jacen talked about the hunting, and Kealey shook her head again with a slight smile. Rangy meat wasn’t really her thing, but growing up she’d known a number of men who killed game simply for the enjoyment of the hunt. Jacen’s way seemed both reasonable and more responsible than those other types and she nodded her head, ”Makes sense until some crazy girl you picked up in the park decides it’s your turn. You sure she wasn’t some sort of vengeful deer shape shifter?” she added with a sideways grin to say she was joking.
Kealey was pleased with her toast and the subsequent clinking of glasses that accompanied it. Over she smiled at Jacen as he backed up the toast. Kealey couldn’t help but think again how nice it felt to be normal out in public. It made it easier to think about working with her powers more and confidence suddenly bloomed. How great would it be when she was able to go to work and interact with people this way? Well, maybe not this exact way…she thought, looking around the table. She knew more about Lee and Tarin in the relatively short time they’d been at the bar than she’d known about most of the nuns in the convent after 10 years. And Jacen…well, their interaction was on another level entirely. Kealey smiled again and took another drink that left her bottle just under half full. Yeah, she’d settle for getting through the day without a headache with everyone else.
No one was really expounding on their little adventure in the Immigration Office. That was probably a very good thing, Lee realized, as it most likely was not the best thing to be talking about, whether in a bar like they were, with people they had just met, or in general.
Kealey's eyes were rather large, though, Lee noticed, with a combination of shock and curiosity. But, it must have been because of the flush on the other woman's cheeks that kept her from saying anything, so Lee kept quiet as well. More than enough had probably already been said about it.
Jacen was already talking about his bow. Apparently, he was a hunter, and that's why he had a bow in his truck. Well, that did seem to make sense, but if it was that easily accessible in the back of his truck that someone getting a ride with him could pull it out like that...
"Maybe you shouldn't keep it in your truck," Lee suggested. Well, it made sense to her, at least. "Or only have it in there when you know you're going to be heading out to go hunting."
And then Kealey was joking with Jacen. That was good to see. To Lee, that sort of playful teasing and joking was essential to a relationship.
As was to Tarin, it seemed, being close to each other, since he was wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her, chair and all, closer to his side. It still felt very strange to Lee, sitting there, knowing she was that close to Tarin, feeling him actually touching her, and yet not feeling the siphoning of energy from him. Very strange. Yet, this had to be what everyone else in the world felt like when they were sitting, with their guy's arm wrapped around them, right?
As Lee set her beer down after the toast Kealey had proposed, Lee noticed that it was getting rather low. They were going to have to make another trip up to the bar before much longer. But then, Tarin was whispering in her ear, asking if it'd be rude to leave. Lee had figured that they would be staying longer than they had already, but with Tarin's arm around her like it was, with the shiver that ran through her when he whispered in her ear, they were quickly getting closer to doing what they always did when they went drinking. And, while it wasn't exactly an acceptable thing to do in the best circumstances, it would be worse tonight to start making out in the middle of the bar with Jacen and Kealey sitting across the table from them.
"It might be, but they'll get over it," Lee replied in a whisper of her own. If he was wanting to get out of there that quickly...that thought brought a small smile to Lee's face as her mind briefly drifted to what would lay ahead of them that night while she brought her beer up to her lips once more.

Tarin almost laughed at the look on the blonde’s face as they talked about the clever way he and Lee had come up with to get out of immigration questioning. Either the girl had been really sheltered or there was no whisper of exhibitionist in her. No matter, Tarin wasn’t going to push the subject, the girl had been embarrassed enough for the night.
Lee was still stuck on the bow and Tarin shook his head. If the man wanted to keep his bow in his truck, that was his business. It was one of those things that men usually did not want or need opinions on. There were responsibilities and inherent dangers with keeping weapons in a person’s personal space and If they were willing to do it, they were usually willing to take those risks.
Kealey commented and Tarin had to laugh at the gentle gibe. The funniest thing about the blonde’s comment was that theoretically it could have been true. There were all kinds of mutants in the city, Tarin could almost imagine one taking vengeance on a hunter. Well played Kealey.
His arm was wrapped around Lee’s waist still, and Tarin’s fingertips trailed gently over her hip as they talked. It had been a little while since he’d asked Lee about leaving and he wondered if that was her subtle way to tell him that his suggestion was rude. Then she whispered back and Tarin had to fight a broad grin that fought to spread across his features. Score. He hadn’t missed the shiver either…he hadn’t even been close to that little spot under her ear…
Tarin squashed the thought, they were still in the middle of the bar and if for no other reason than to spite Matt, they were going to finish their lovely little conversation and walk out like civilized people. Lee was smiling as she finished her beer, and Tarin picked his up, draining the rest in a long draw, then smiling over at Kealey and Jacen a little bashfully.
“Well…” he said, setting his empty beer bottle down with a clink, “I think that might be the cue for old married people to head home for the night while you kids paint the town with youth and debauchery.”
Maybe it was a little over the top. If Tarin had to guess, he and Jacen were of an age and Kealey wasn’t exactly a kid. Hopefully they’d catch his meaning, though. Tarin thought about that for a moment as he fished out his wallet to get out the right amount of money, and amended. Hopefully Jacen would catch his meaning. As sweet as his lady was, Tarin had a feeling she hadn’t exactly ever ran in a fast circle.
"I'll have to take that advice into consideration." Jacen said with a laugh directed at Kealey's comment while his statement was directed toward Lee, "I honestly had never really thought I'd meet someone that could pull a 75 pound recurve bow and have the skills to aim it at me. I know plenty of people that can handle a compoud bow but those that are experienced with recurve bows are very few and far between."
Lifting his beer to take another sip, Jacen watched with some interest as Tarin and Lee held a whispered conversation. When Tarnn went and made his comment, Jacen had to fight to hold in a laugh. There was a slight, if ever so slight possibility that Kealey had been deceived by Tarin's statement but that wasn't going to be happening with Jacen. It was all right there to be read like an open book. The heated glances, the whispered conversations, the wide, uncontrolable grin that had suddenly appeared on Tarin's face. All of these were clues that indicated just what the "old married couple" was intending to do.
"Somehow I think you two could probably give the kids a lesson in debauchery." Jacen said with a teasing smirk before lifting his beer bottle and finishing off the last of it. "Go on, get out of here you two." He added as he lowered the now empty bottle and set it on the table, "Get home before the Fire Marshall reports you for creating flames they can't put out."
Turning away from the other two Jacen raised an eyebrow in Kealey direction with a playful grin. "So, what'll it be beautiful? Should we go paint the town red, see what kind of trouble we can get into, or maybe make some trouble of our own?"

Jacen decided to take Lee’s suggestion that he keep the bow somewhere other than his truck under consideration and Kealey got really confused when he started talking about bows and weight and skills. Kealey was clueless on that point and worked on her beer while they talked about the weapon. Apparently that bow in Jacen’s truck was harder to use than other bows, Kealey committed that fact to memory, just in case it ever came up in conversation again.
Tarin and Lee were whispering and smiling, and the way they’d moved closer together almost made Kealey feel like she was intruding on their space. Then Tarin was talking, commenting how it was time for him and Lee to go home because they were an old married couple. Kealey frowned slightly and tilted her head, taking another drink of beer. They didn’t look tired. Tarin’s second comment about her and Jacen painting the town with youth and debauchery made Kealey raise an eyebrow and laugh. Before Kealey could comment though, Jacen was speaking up and commenting that Tarin and Lee could give debauchery lessons. OH.
Two and two came to equal four and Kealey flushed. Naturally people did what Tarin and Lee were going to do, but knowing about it was something else entirely. They both looked so happy though, Kealey had to smile and shake her head. The blond couldn’t think of a single thing to say, so she picked up her beer and took yet another drink. The second half was going much faster than the first had.
Jacen had commented on the fire marshal coming to put out flames and Kealey laughed again, trying to figure out exactly when the last time she’d felt this carefree was. She looked at Jacen, he’d brought her here to meet his friends, he’d given her a place to stay, he’d…done all kinds of things. Now he was turning and asking her what she wanted to do for the rest of the night. It was kind of early after all.
”Well…” Kealey said, trying to puzzle out what each individual option entailed. Something about the first one suggested it would be a public matter and the other…maybe not so much. There was always the chance she was wrong, though, and Kealey had been embarrassed enough for the night. Kealey looked around the bar, taking another drink of beer that coincidently emptied it.
”I’d be interested to see just what kind of trouble we could create on our own.” she decided with a smile and said nothing more. She’d made a choice and honestly, whatever they did was probably going to be great.
Well, at least Jacen didn't shoot down her idea that maybe he shouldn't store this bow of his in his truck all the time. It was up to him, but even though it seemed the bow was too hard for most people to use, it still seemed like a better idea to Lee for it to not be there.
But that was completely beside the point at that moment, what with how Tarin's fingers were running over her hip. This was why they got in trouble when they were out; these little touches, those little whispers, that always led to more. Lee knew that if it wasn't for Jacen and Kealey sitting across the table, Matt more than likely would have kicked them out for making out in the bar again.
And then Tarin was saying he thought it was time for them to go, because they were an old married couple. Lee almost rolled her eyes at that, but managed to refrain. She wasn't so good at stopping the laugh from erupting at Jacen's comment.
Well, with how Kealey was blushing, that was probably true. Especially considering the fact that they had done extremely well that night with keeping their hands off each other.
But a moment later, Jacen was telling them to go on and get out of there. Giving the couple across the table a smile, Lee stood. "Nice to meet you," she said to Kealey, then turned to Jacen. "We'll have to do this again, it was fun."
With that, Lee stepped away from the table, feeling Tarin's arm still wrapped around her waist. Glancing quickly over at the bar, Lee saw a shocked expression on Matt's face. Apparently, it seemed he was rather surprised that they were simply leaving. Without having started making our or anything of the sort.
Grinning, Lee gave the bartender a small wave before she and Tarin disappeared out the door.

Jacen got it. Tarin couldn’t help but grin at the look on the other man’s face and grin even wider at the look on Kealey’s face. The girl really was sheltered, then she got it. It was fun to watch the light switch on after it had been off. Truth be told, Tarin was glad the girl had eventually gotten it. Jacen seemed to be a good guy, he deserved a girl saavy enough to keep up with the conversation. Tarin was interested in what kind of Irish upbringing was sheltered enough that it didn’t involve beer…but that would have to be a conversation for another time. Tarin had other things on his mind…other things that involved the hint his wife has obviously taken.
Jacen spoke and Tarin grinned again, shrugging his shoulders. “You’re probably right Jacen…but Matt was quite clear the last time we tried to give lessons here that we were to find another venue.” Speaking of the devil, Matt was watching as Tarin dropped the appropriate bills on the table, Tarin met his gaze and chuckled. Then looked back at Lee, she was making her goodbyes.
Tarin reached out and grabbed Kealey’s hand, kissing the back of it and grinning broadly, “It was a pleasure.” He said, “It’s not every night I get to spend quality time with two beautiful women.”
Lee was telling Jacen that they’d have to do this again and Tarin nodded his head in agreement, reaching out to shake the other man’s hand. He and Lee had precious few friends here in the city and tonight had been fun. Lots of fun. “We definitely will have to do this again sometime.”
Then they were leaving. Tarin kept his arm firmly around Lee’s waist as they walked, laughing out loud as Lee waved to Matt behind them. “That was almost a little low, you know…” he said, but he was smiling.
Back in the bar, Matt made his way to the table to pick up the money Tarin had left for their tab and shook his head, looking at the couple who had come in with his old friends, ”If you’re going to hang out with them, get used to it. At least they had the decency to leave first this time.” the bartender smiled and shook his head, ”First round is on me, and I hope to see you guys again.”
