The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Teddie Brisby hitched her bag higher up on her shoulder and Magdalena, her beloved pet rat, snuggled deeper into the front pocket of her ragged and somewhat threadbare black denim jacket. Teddie had insisted on coming alone..she didn't need her parents any more than they needed her. She was fifteen and incredibly independent. Her parents didn't even bother to see her off at the train station in Dallas. "Typical.."she muttered as she strode up the lawn. Teddie tried to appear confident, but inside she was quaking with nervousness, anticipation and fear. She wondered what the other students would be like, what sort of mutations they would have and what the teachers would be like.
*Tricity picked up her radio and heard John's message of the new student coming up the lawn for her meeting. She thanked him and strode down the stairs with her clipboard and manilla envelope of papers for the new students. After opening the big double doors, she walked briskly toward the new girl, smiling.* "Hey, how ya doing? My name is Delilah Rose Tipper or Tricity as most of the older mutants call me. A lot of the students stick to Ms. Tipper, but whatever you prefer. You're Theodora, right?"

Teddie nodded. "You can call me Teddie, if you want. That's what my folks call me anyway, if they call me at all." she said with a wry grin. "Oh..and this is Magdalena. Say hi, Mags.."she said, using one hand to pull the large rat out of her pocket. Magdalena sniffed Tricity curiously, her whiskers wiggling. Teddie looked around her, taking it all in. "So this is it huh? This is the school for..people like me..er..us huh?" She tried not to betray her nervousness in her voice, though it was hard for her.
*Tricity squirmed at the girl's pet, but bared a grin anyway. * "Yea, Teddie...this is the place for people like us. I have to ask you a few questions that are standard for anyone who moves in. First, I need to know what your abilities are and if they are dangerous to anyone else or yourself." *She sat down on the stone stairs leading up to the mansion, signaling for Teddie to sit down next to her.*

Magdalena crawled up and perched on her mistress' shoulder as Teddie sat down and flipped her shoulder length red hair back over her shoulder. "I only really have one ability and it's not much of one. I have the gift of animal speech. I can use my mind to call any animal, any animal at all, at any time. And I'm not really dangerous to anyone, unless you piss me off and I sic a dog or something on you." Her green eyes crinkled in a slight smile. Ya know Mags, I might just like it here...she sent to her companion, who was fiddling with a lock of her hair. Mags squeaked in reply and Teddie stroked her smooth, sleek coat.
*Tricity laughed.* "GOOD! Maybe you can tell my pet wolf to stop waking me so early in the morning!" *She went into her over-the-shoulder bag and pulled out the 'new resident' manila folder.* "Ok hun, I need you to fill out the papers in here and give them back to me when you're done. For now, you can go pick out an empty room anywhere upstairs on the second floor. Preferably by the girls' dorms though." *She said, winking.*

Teddie took the papers and shoved them roughly into her backpack.
"Any room huh? That ought to make choosing easy, I guess."she said, getting to her feet. "And I'll tell him?? to quit waking you up so early. No problem.." Teddie could already feel the numerous animals minds in and around the grounds and shut all but Mags out. It made it easier to concentrate if all those voices weren't in her head. Teddie climbed to the second floor and found an empty room near the stairs. Easier if I need to make a quick get away or something.. she thought to herself. As she unpacked her things, she thought about a time nearly two years ago when she first discovered her powers. She thought she was going to go crazy, all those voices in her head. It took her the better part of six months to learn to block out all but specific ones and there had been no one to teach her. Teddie had to learn all by herself, which made it difficult since she wasn't even entirely sure at the time what she'd been dealing with. At least it's a QUIET power, unlike flamethrowing or ice making or whatever everybody else does here. At least it's easy to hide, because I'm sure Mom and Pops would flip if they knew. They think I'm at some stupid boarding school for the gifted. Heh...she thought, putting her things away.
