The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Shin’s eyes trailed up to the tall man’s face. “Um, sure. A fourth. Right. What’s your name, big guy? That’s Leila, I’m Shin, and the guy dribbling is…” He glanced at Slate, trying to remember the name he’d only heard once. “… Slate…” He finally finished, smiling. He hadn’t forgotten, nope.
And Leila had invited him to play in their game… “He can be on my team!” Shin raised his hand.
OOC: Sorry guy's I was busy all weekend with guests and just recently got my comp back, I know I told shin before but I figured I should give you guys an explanation as well. I'm not sure whose post it is in this thread though, is it mine or Slates?
Slate was destined to not know this 'pig game' of which Leila spoke. The trio's unspoken request had been answered: their fourth player had arrived. It was quite easy to see him coming.
>> "Hi, I'm new around here, you mind if I join your game."
"Not at all," Slate answered. Looking quite that far up did not suit him; therefore, after a brief moment of eye contact, he simply looked at the court and at Shin, as the Asian teen finished introducing them. In a rather smiling, ellipsiscal manner. Hmm.
>> “He can be on my team!”
Smile twitch. "I believe Leila can take him." As they moved towards the court, Slate briefly glanced back up at the man. "Are you thinking of taking up residence at the Mansion? What is your ability, if I may ask?"
He must have looked quite odd standing there, a giant man in his mid twenties trying to play basketball with a bunch of teenagers. He knew though that if he wanted to find out about this school he had no choice but to mingle with what looked like it's residents.
"Yeah, we needed a fourth player, just to even out the teams."
One of the girls would shrug and say this rather confidently at him. A smile crossed his face as he stepped into the blacktop, he had been waiting on the sidelines for the go ahead to come in. Another boy would speak right after. He was dressed in similar clothes to the other people Chan had seen playing basketball.
“Um, sure. A fourth. Right. What’s your name, big guy? That’s Leila, I’m Shin, and the guy dribbling is…”
The boy would go first point to himself, which meant he was Shin. Then to the girl that had spoken first who was Leila, then pausing for a moment while he looked at the other boy before finally speaking that his name was Slate. It appeared like the boy called Slate was about to speak but before he could Shin raised his hand and said that Chan was on his time. This made the Thai man happy to hear as originally he was scared they wouldn't let him play with them.
Slate too would speak after everything had been decided, saying that he thought Leila could take him. Then turning to Chan he would ask some more serious questions.
"Are you thinking of taking up residence at the Mansion? What is your ability, if I may ask?"
Chan was slightly confused at the boys question, where he was from in the Thailand mountain jungles there were no mutants, no mutant rights acts, nothing of that nature at all. In fact he had no idea that anyone had a similar power to him so when Slate asked about ability he was rather confused as to what he was referring to.
"Yes I would like to find somewhere to stay, I have alot of money from fighting in Thailand but do not know how to purchase living quarters here. What do you mean ability, do you mean like skills or talent. If that is what you mean then my "ability" is fighting. In Thailand I am grand champion of the Muay Thai arena's and would like to find a similar fighting job here but I am having some difficulty doing that."
OOC: Sorry if it's an awkward read, I'm resisting the urge to use contractions and slang colloquialisms because while he is a fluent English speaker he only has learned purely educational English so he speaks it in a completely "from the book" way

Leila laughed at Shin, "I guess I'll be with Slate." she said, "Don't worry, when I'm through with you, you'll be a kick-ass basketball player." she said, rubbing both hands together and taking off the jacket she was wearing, revealing her arms. Although it was a little cold, she knew by the end of the afternoon, she'd be sweating. Shin and this big man, they looked quite competitive, and since she had Slate... the new guy that hardly knew anything... She'd have to play tough.
Leila didn't really pay much attention to what Slate and Chan were talking about as she walked in front of them, but her enhanced hearing couldn't possibly keep her from over hearing. Chan sounded like quite the impressive man, and as far as the young blonde was concerned, he'd make a good Order member. Maybe she could mention the Sanctuary, without making it look as if she was in the Order? "Alright," she said, once they'd reached the middle of the court.
"What are we playing to?" she asked, smiling. She loved competition, and she knew having three guys to play with, it would mean she could be as agressive as she wanted to be. It would be a real shock too, she thought, for the men to get pushed to the ground. Especially that big Chan person. None of the guys would actually want to tackle her either, which would make for an easy win. Leila grinned mischeviously at the thought, nearly jumping with exitement.

With that decided, Shin turned Chan and smiled. Actually, he’d never gotten the large Thai prize fighter’s name… “What did you say your name was?” A glance back towards Slate with a raised eyebrow showed Shin’s apprehension at just flat-out asking random passerby their mutant powers. He knew it was always interesting finding things out about them, but some degree of tact was needed. Like, the right situation, or…
“Prize fighter, huh? Wonder how I’d fare in a boxing match with you.” A fighter’s grin slipped onto Shin’s face. He waited on a name to go with the prize fighter’s ability.
((ooc: As a side note to "textbook English", Monk, I'm not sure about Thailand... but I'm teaching English in Japan right now, and contractions are a huge part of their education. You could probably use those with impunity, if you wished.))
Slate saw the look of apprehension in Shin's gaze, but did not understand its cause. In general, he had observed the 'What is your mutation?' question to be quite a normal item of small talk in the mutant population. It was not a dangerous question; those sounded more like 'Why are you here?', 'Where were you last Winter?', and 'How are your parents?'
The man was a prize fighter. Intriguing. Slate did not know of any prize fighting rings in New York City; that did not mean there were not any, however. "I wish you luck," he stated simply, in response to the man's introduction of his abilities. Perhaps the fighting was related to his mutant abilities, and perhaps not. Perhaps that had been a dodge of the question, and perhaps not. Slate had asked once: he would not push the question further. That would warrant apprehension.
>> "What are we playing to?"
A blink. "What is typical?" Slate asked, quite simply.
