The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Adaptation vs. Mutation It is an observable fact in nature that when a new species of plant or animal is introduced into a previously existing ecosystem one of two things will happen. Either the new species will take over and destroy all its competition for life or the previously existing species will adapt in order to counteract this new threat.
What if the human race began to adapt to the mutant threat?
What if the human race changed ever so subtly... without the x-gene.
Around the world humans are changing. The human race currently uses only somewhere between 4-10% of their brain function capacity. With the mutant threat increasing certain humans are changing so that they use 15-20% of their brain. After having been affected by the x-gene in some way (ie: healed by a mutant, hurt by a mutant, controlled by a mutant, etc) these Adapted humans will develop the ability to produce an aura around their bodies that extends up to 10 feet. This aura temporarily disables the x-gene as well as turning any objects previously affected by the x-gene back to their normal state.
Examples:
Rules/Downsides/Limitations:
[/i]. There will be no power growths beyond that range.
3. The aura cannot be recreated by scientists with a machine. No matter how brilliant the scientist, for at least the next 100 years, they will be unable to understand this previously silent part of the human brain.
4. Adapteds cannot sense mutants around them. The aura is produced unconsciously so they do not have the ability to monitor it.
5. If your character has physical characteristics (ie: fur, tails, scales, etc), you may choose whether they disappear within the aura or not--whatever works best for your character. Some mutants completely revert to human over a matter of seconds/minutes, whereas others simply find their tails/tentacles/gills hanging limp or being useless until they leave the aura.[/ul]

Note: The Adapted initially had their own plotline at MRO, but it ended in the Spring of 2011. Adapteds are now regular citizens of MRO; they still exist, they still lead their lives, but there is no larger plot line specifically for them.
January 1, 2009: the plot so far
The Adapted are beginning to appear, but they are very rare--it's unlikely that your character will encounter one, though still remotely possible. The government, media, and public are as of yet unaware of the Adapted's existence--not even the Adapted know what they are, yet.
The Regional Urban Preternatural Examinations and Recovery Team has finally made its appearance. Only the future can tell what this organization's true goals are and how they will use the Adapted's to further those goals.
Your character won't know about R.U.P.E.R.T., or the Adapteds, unless he/she has learned of them IC. This knowledge is still fairly rare.

Spring, 2011
R.U.P.E.R.T. has been disbanded and its members scattered; the government no longer seems to be trying to round together Adapteds, and there's a lingering doubt as to whether they were really behind things at all...
The "Rise of the Adapteds" plot is now over, though Adapteds will continue to exist at MRO from now 'til forever. To all players of Adapted characters: carry on. You're now just regular citizens of MRO, trying to live your lives as best you can.
