The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was a cool evening, the typical Friday evening in New York. The overcast weather lay above the city as Duke drove to the airport. He had met a few acquaintances during his stay in the state, but now he needed some much required time alone. His future lay ahead of him, and a vacation would give him time to relax. He didn't quite know where he would be going except for the fact that he wanted out. The state was far too crowded for his taste, he needed solitude.
Duke looked at his backpack placed atop a duffel bag on the passenger seat. He had packed much necessities and now as he passed in front of the airport, dozens of thoughts flooded through his head. Thoughts like, where would he stash the car, and, what would he tell his friends, ah what friends, acquaintances. He drove his vehicle beside the entrance and exited, taking his belongings as he did so.
"Sigh... Well, I guess now is better than never, I need some fresh air anyways."
Duke entered the building, taking his items with him. There was a shift in lighting as the darkness of the outside changed into the illumination of the inside. He could hear the small shifts in sound through the silence as he walked over to the metal detectors. He passed through without hesitation and soon after he found himself placing his bags at a counter. There was a young lady behind the counter, and after much small talk, Duke ordered a ticket to a country in South America. He purchased a ticket to Brasilia, far south of where he currently was.
"Thanks" Duke replied as he handed the stolen money from his previous heist to the lady. She graciously took the money and handed him the ticket and soon after, Duke was on his way.
Duke waited in the lobby of the airport for several hours, awaiting the call that would lead him on his way. Slowly he ate a sandwich that would barely fill his hunger but still was food. He had several thoughts of friends as he watched a suspended television attached to a pillar in the middle of the room. There were others like him, perhaps running away like him?
Haha... Why do I have to treat this like death, it's not like I'm dying or anything!
Eventually the call on an intercom was shouted across the room, and now it was time. Time for him to be on his way to his next destination. There seemed to be a distant echo in Duke's mind and it rang throughout his mind, bouncing on the walls of his head. Now he picked up his two bags, his belongings and walked to the tunnel-like path that would lead him onto the plane.
"May I see your ticket?"
Duke flashed his pass to another young woman standing by the entrance of the plane. Safety precautions, I presume, but otherwise naught. As he entered the plane, he took one last look at New York, he didn't know when he'd be back, but hopefully he would. Hopefully...
OOC: Didn't know where to put this and didn't wanna waste another thread....
He had left on November 8th, 2008, and was mow returning nearly one month later... It was a bittersweet return, but it was something he needed. Taking in the sights of a new country was a nice change, but it wasn't what he was used to. He needed the cities, the abundance of people, and everything else he was used to doing before he left. It was nice to be returning though.
"I wonder if anyone remembers me..."
Though he hadn't made the most friends since he left, if anyone actually remembered him, he would be happy, or at least much more content. The plane roared through the sky and he could see the Statue of Liberty in the far off distance. The feelings that Duke were beginning to feel were harsh, things he didn't need. Not here anyways! It was dangerous. He took a couple of breaths and lied back in his comfortable seat. He watched the the plane made a landing, the ground as it was skid upon by the large machine.
As Duke exited the plane into the tunnel that would lead into the airport, he pulled the headphones from his coat pocket and placed them in his ears. Music was something he hadn't listened to in so long, it was heartwarming yet calming all at once.
Inside the airport, as Duke settled over a burger from the Burger King, he called the taxi company to pick him and his luggage up. Somehow, from where it was located in position to the airport, the estimated time of pickup was far shorter than expected.
"So where do you wanna go?" The driver asked.
It was good to hear people speak in a language he was used to and didn't have to open a book to understand and butcher when replying. Well, now it was time to go home, wherever that is.
