The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As Raina lectured and poked him in the chest Luke did his best to hold back a smile. His focus had slipped and he had decided that instead of fighting it he should just enjoy it. Even through the air, up this close his sonar worked just fine and there was no mistaking the attractiveness that was personified in Raina.
"I'll see you down there!" She finally said before leaping acrobatically into the air and then diving back down into the water. For a few moments Luke remained where he was bobbing along in the ocean as he breathed in the clean air. It was nice to be able to go underwater because of the compressed air that rested on his back but it seemed to have a tinny taste that real fresh air didn't have. Finally Luke pressed the regulator back into his mouth and then turned to begin his descent.
"Little harder to breathe this time." Luke thought as he slowly descended, "Must be getting tired." The descent continued slowly and steadily... he wasn't out to try and beat Raina or catch up to her. He knew he would be fine to go down to thirty or thirty-five feet. She might have all the endurance she could ever ask for down here in the water but he was still a very athletic man and he could handle it. "I am not going to wimp out in front of Raina... not a chance." The thought sprung unbidden to his mind as he paused for a moment, allowing his body to adjust to the water pressure. A few minutes later Luke continued his descent until he was finally at around thirty or thirty-five feet. He couldn't know for sure since he couldn't see the dive meter but his judging of distance by using the sonar was pretty good. When Raina finally swam back over to him he flashed her the OK sign once again, continuing to ignore the fact that it was more difficult to breathe that it had been previously when he was underwater.
"Let the testing begin." He thought to himself as he began to ramp up his sonar, reaching out as far as he could.

"Awesome!" exclaimed Raina when she saw Luke give her the OK sign. She gave one right back and giggled. She twirlled around him a bit playfully and then set out. "Ok, i'm going ahead. It's pretty dark for me down this deep so I'm gonna be a bit slow. But I can feel your sonar. If I can't feel it I'll come back." she stated motioning with her arms for how far she was about to swim.
"Just relax, take even breaths and kicks, and focus on that sonar of yours." she instructed giving a flick of her tail and dissappearing into the murkiness.
she headed in her best attempt of a straight line feeling the charge from having Luke's sonar on her. She tried to make it entertaining by doing little twirls and moves.

(OOC: No worries about short posts... I think you're doing just fine.)
Watching Raina slowly move off into the distance was definitely enjoyable for Luke... finally he had a 'good' reason to concentrate completely on the young woman and where she was. Even as the distance increased it was amazing how much detail he could still make out from this distance. Being able to see the pattern of scales that made up her 'tail' was quite interesting and as much as he could he kept his focus away from the areas he had been instructed to ignore but he was still human.
"She's maybe about a hundred feet now." Luke thought after several moments, "That's my maximum range on land and I can still see here extremely well. Maybe my thoughts of triple distance are even a little short."
The moment ticked by slowly with Luke making mental notes about what details he could still see as she approached different distances. Once Raina was out past a hundred feet it was extremely difficult to judge her distance since Luke wasn't used to 'seeing' so far but a guess would work for the time being.
"If we have mics next time then maybe we can have some type of GPS too... something that would let us know the exact distance." Luke thought before he suddenly began coughing. Coughing with a regulator in your mouth is not a fun experience and as much as he tried to, keeping the seal around the mouth piece so that no water comes in is almost impossible. When the coughing finally stopped Luke blew out strongly to clear the regulator of moisture and then tried to take in a deep breath.
"It's so hard to breathe." Luke's mind began to race as he started to hyperventilate. "Control... relax... every thing's fine." He tried to tell himself even though his lungs were screaming to his mind that everything wasn't fine. They weren't getting enough air!
Shaking his head, Luke tried to clear the cobwebs that were slowly beginning to build and without really noticing, suddenly dropped the range of his sonar. Holding maximum range took a long of concentration and his mind was suddenly on other things so that at max, his sonar was probably still out to a hundred feet, no farther, and it was kind of weak at that distance.
"Surface... I've got to surface." The grogginess was getting worse and as hard as Luke tried to concentrate it was difficult to know exactly which direction was up. It seemed every time he tried to reach out with his sonar it reached less than it had the attempt before. Luke's lungs were beginning to burn and he had no choice but to just swim and pray he was going the right direction. Kicking as strongly as he could muster Luke began to move in the direction he thought was up even as sonar began to get murky looking.
"Breathe... I... need..."
His kicks were getting weaker and in the part of his brain that was still working he knew something was definitely wrong. Thought was impossible and somehow he knew he was running out of strength to make it to the surface.

Raina was having a grand time swimming ahead. She could still feel the affects of Luke's sonar when she decided to take a break. It felt easier on her head underwater when he used his sonar than it did on land. She twirled a bit and drifted lasily. She couldn't see very well but she still had a pretty good instinct where things were... she wasn't sure why and didn't bother thinking too much about it.
She felt a sudden gripping chill and thought she'd swam into a cold stream. It took her a moment to realize that the sudden feeling was Luke's sonar dropping off her. She stood still incase he'd simply lost her and as trying to re-locate her, or was trying something different with his sonar. Nothing. She stayed still a bit longer... Nothing.
She felt a pit in her stomach and with a strong kick of her tail she propelled herself back in the direction as quickly as her body had ever carried her before. Raina's tail was all muscle and she'd never really used it to it's full intent. Her sides aches from the unexpected surge of power. She didnt have sonar like Luke so she was using her mental image and map to try and locate him.
She didn't realize Luke was in front of her until she nearly slammed into him. He was completley motionless. "Luke this isn't funny." she called out through the water. "I don't know what you're trying but I'd like to see that OK sign or a Timeout one." no responce.
Fear gripped every inch of Raina and for a moment her own body was frozen and non-responsive. It only took that one moment for Raina to snap into action- knowing someone personally or not, Raina's x-men training had taught her to think quick.
"Luke." she swam to him and put her hands on his shoulders, his body was lifeless. She could see enough to tell that his mask was not filled with water and she mentally thanked God for that. She spun him around effortlessly and saw that the oxygen gage on his tank was near empty. 'That isn't right" she told herself in disbelief. "I checked it before we left. Something went wrong." she pulled him back around so she could face him, her eyes moving rapidy as she tried to think of what to do.
She knew she could easily propell him to the surface in seconds and start giving him CPR if he needed it, but she had no way of knowing how long he'd been out and she knew that if she pushed him too quickly he'd get the bends and die from the pressure in his blood. So she did the only thing that seemed logical...
"Luke...." she started pulling the mouth piece out of his mouth. "This is no way counts as a first kiss." she said in a comedic way despite her sense of panic and terror.
She pulled him tight to her and pressed her open mouth to his trying to create an air lock as best as she could to keep any water from getting in. She'd never even considered anything like this before but she hoped her idea would work... it seemed feasable.
She gave slow, gentle kicks despite her want to push to the surface as quickly as she could, while all the time filtering the water through her gills in a way that pushed her ability to the max... but filtered air in and out of Luke as well as her. She was a bit light headed, but she could feel Luke's chest move with the air so she prayed it was going in and coming out.
It took forever to get to the surface and Raina's body ached all over from the pressure, the anxiety, the physical work, and her fear. Though something like this could seem quite romantic in a movie Raina was terrified her friend might be dying or already dead. She couldn't tell from underwater if his heart was beating or not.
The rays of the sun began to peak through the water and she knew she was getting closer to the surface. She could feel the sting of the cold in the air. Luke'd body felt heavier and heavier and she could only hope he was warm enough..
She broke the surface and pulled her mouth away. His complexion looked ok... he wasn't blue so hopefully he hadn't swallowed any water... but with the lapping waves she could hardly tell if he was breathing on his own or not. "Alright Luke, We're almost there."
She pulled him up so he was half floating on his back with his head out of the water, she slung an arm around him and kept talking to him hoping it might bring him back to conciousness, but also to keep herself calm. "If we get out of this Luke I don't want to hear any Little Mermaid jokes." she told him. "Just stay with me Luke."
She was very much in control until she reached the shore and realized she couldn't exactly walk. Panic started to take control and she could feel her eyes well up with stinging tears. Again she was thankful he was in the suit while she pulled him as far onto the shore as she could, the sand eating into her skin.
She hoped she'd taken enough time bringing him to the surface, that his blood would have had enough of a chance to depressurize. "Luke, Luke" she said tapping his face and pulling the suit down off his head to his neck. "Come on Luke, wake up." she put her ear to his chest and to her dismay still couldn't tell if his heart was beating or not- the air was distorting and the ringing in her own ears was destracting. "Please Luke...' she felt herself cry. "please wake up. I promise no more crazy swimming stunts, or lunch dinners during the rain, or cold shouldering you during x-men meetings"
She put her head on his chest and sobbed- that's when she remembered the C.P.R. As gently as she could she laid his head back underneath his hand and checked his mouth. She knew there wouldn't be any water. She pulled her own head back into the water long enough to syphin enough air through her gills and she opened her mouth to his once more.
This time around was more tricky. They were no longer sharing the air it was completley going into Luke. Perhaps more oxygen would wake him up, perhaps it wouldn't. She was worried ab out how often she had to stop to breathe herself between breaths that she wasn't going fast enough. "Please Luke, Please!"

Some people talked about seeing a white light... others spoke of seeing loved ones that had passed on... still others said that they were watching their own bodies and wondering what was happening as people tried frantically to save them. For Luke he would never be able to share any of those stories... there was only darkness and blackness like he had never experienced before. It was the worst nothingness you could imagine.
*** "Alright Luke, We're almost there."
"If we get out of this Luke I don't want to hear any Little Mermaid jokes. Just stay with me Luke." ***
Sounds were beginning to filter through again but Luke's brain was have difficulty making sense of them. He thought he recognized the voice as someone he cared about but it was difficult to make any connections through the thick and heavy fog.
"Was I going somewhere? Why am I supposed to stay here?" The stray thoughts floated through as he tried to make some sense of what was happening.
*** "Come on Luke, wake up."
"Please Luke... please wake up. I promise no more crazy swimming stunts, or lunch dinners during the rain, or cold shouldering you during x-men meetings" ***
The fog was lifting but he still couldn't move. He couldn't connect with his sonar. The darkness was lifting but everything was still so gray and foggy. "I'm here... Raina... I'm Ok..." Luke thought over and over as he tried to will himself to answer. As his consciousness returned he began to notice the tone of her voice... the fear and worry that had crept in.
"What happened?" Luke thought, half of his consciousness trying to remember while the other half struggled to return fully. "Diving... I was diving."
*** "Please Luke, Please!" ***
There was pressure on his chest and something pressed against his mouth...
His finger's tingled and his mouth felt so cottony. He couldn't talk...
"I'm OK Raina... I'm fine... It's OK. Don't cry." Luke thought as he continued to struggle desparately. For a brief moment whatever was covering his mouth dissapeared and he knew this was his chance. He could either speak now or he might not get the opportunity again.
"I... I... OK.... Rai... OK..." Luke gasped out softly as his lungs began to expand and contract on their own. He was still foggy on exactly what had happened but he knew the person he could hear beside himself had to be Raina. It had to be... who else would there be?
"Can she breathe? I can feel sand on my neck... we're on land... can she breathe?" Panic began to flood through his mind. How could he help her when he was so weak? How could he carry her or save her?
"Rai... water... breathe..." He chocked out, his mind trying desparately to put together some type of coherant sentence but still unable to do so. "OK..."

Raina pulled back from giving Luke another breath when she felt movement beneath her. She had to pull herself back into the surf for a moment to get another breath of air. She leaned over him dripping wet. "Luke? luke! It's Raina. It's Raina!" she said "Come on buddy stay awake." she pushed his wet hair back out of his eyes. "That's right Luke wake up, say my name, anything!" She gave him a gentle shake.
Tears were streaming down her face as she looked frantically around and spyed her pile of things she's brought. She put her arms up and pain stakingly pulled herself across the sand scraping her under belly as she went. She grabbed the comforter she'd packed and pulled it through the sand to Luke. It was dirty, but would so the trick. She draped it across him to keep him warm and laid on the sand next to him hoping she'd dry soon and change.
She was exhausted and the sand had helped to absorb a lot of the moisture on her skin. She watched Luke's chest rise as he breathed and she kept one hand protectivly touching his face. "It's going to be alright." she told him as her body started to change. "You're safe now. You can breathe." her eyes began to feel heavy and her legs finally formed. She was exhausted. She put her head on his chest to reassure herself he was breathing. "Just be Ok, Ok?"

Luke continued to concentrate and move towards regaining control of his body. The tingleing was slowly dissapearing from his fingers and with effort he could even begin to twitch it slightly.
"Luke? luke! It's Raina. It's Raina! Come on buddy stay awake." He heard her saying, keeping up a steady stream of words as she did her best to bring him back. Luke could feel her hand brush across his forehead as she continued to talk to him. "That's right Luke wake up, say my name, anything!"
Luke's breathing was growing stronger and more steady but his sonar was still strangely silent. He couldn't remember a time since the sonar had come out when it could be silent without extreme effort but now it was as if he couldn't touch it without that same effort. Giving up wearily Luke felt his eyes blinking, clearing away whatever moisture may have dripped into them. Then a large soft... blanket or somethign was draped over him. Hidden beneath the fabric the blind man began to clench his hand and then release, focusing on the motor skills and muscle control that he had momentarily lost.
"It's going to be alright. You're safe now. You can breathe." Raina was talking again but her voice sounded weaker. One of her hands was still up, touching Luke's cheek and he could feel her weight on top of the blanket pressing against him. If her time at his apartment before was any indication then she had to be getting extremely weary as she rested her head on his chest. "Just be Ok, Ok?"
Luke's mouth was still felt like a wad of cotton and for a moment he concentrated on getting enough saliva in his mouth to be able to speak clearly.
"Are... you... OK... Raina?" He finally asked as he struggled to move one of his arms. He was still weak and actually picking anything up would be next to impossible but finally he was able to move his arm out from under the blanket and slip it around Raina, cradeling her with it. As his bare hand rested against the skin on her side it finally penetrated through his mind that since Raina had gone into the water sans clothes, she must still be in the same state right now.
"This was deffinately not anywhere in the plans or expectation." Luke thought wearily as his eyes closed and he just focused on breathing. Oxygen... if he could just get the right amount of oxygen moving again then maybe he could actually get up or... something.

Raina felt the arm drape around her and without hesitation she pulled in closer to him. She was still crying but nearly laughing from hysterics. "Of course I'm ok silly... I can breathe underwater..." she cried/laughed. "You scared me to death. I'm just tired. We should take you to a hospital or something, you may need to be in a decompression chamber... I brought a first aid kit you should let me test your blood pressure... "
She babbled on somewhat incoherently for a little bit. "I'm so glad you're awake." she sobbed. "We're always getting into trouble. Maybe water isn't your thing." she said still rushing with emotion,
her body hurt all over and her eyes were stinging from the crying and the wind. She was covered in goosebumps and was worried people might be looking at them now but she could hardley lift her head to look.
"Do you know what happened? Did something go wrong? I check the gear several times I would never send you in if I thought you'd get hurt." she said "I'm so so sorry. "She put her head on his chest again, "I'm so glad you're awake I'm so glad you're breathing... I wasn't sure if my attempt to breathe would have worked. I only knew something was wrong because your sonar dropped."

As Raina moved in closer Luke allowed himself the effort of giving her a slight squeze. She was babbling and for a moment it was a little much for his head to take in. Giving it a little shake he tried to focus on the words as much as possible.
"You scared me to death. I'm just tired. We should take you to a hospital or something, you may need to be in a decompression chamber... I brought a first aid kit you should let me test your blood pressure... I'm so glad you're awake." she sobbed. "We're always getting into trouble. Maybe water isn't your thing."
"Shhhh... shhhh." Luke began to speak soothingly as he tried to comfort the aparently overwraught woman. He wasn't dead and it didn't look like he'd have any permanent injury. Lifting his head the blind man pushed a kiss against the top of her head before allowing his head to fall back against the sand again. He was going to need a shower... a long hot shower if he had any choices about it.
"Do you know what happened? Did something go wrong? I check the gear several times I would never send you in if I thought you'd get hurt. I'm so so sorry. I'm so glad you're awake I'm so glad you're breathing... I wasn't sure if my attempt to breathe would have worked. I only knew something was wrong because your sonar dropped."
"I'm OK Raina... calm down... breathe." Luke's voice was still soft without the strength that was normally behind it but the gentleness he had always showed Raina before had begun to creep back into it. "We can figure out what happened later."
It felt like Raina was beginning to even shiver a little from the cold but Luke wasn't sure if was really shivering or just her body shaking from the crying she had been doing earlier. Lifting his other arm, Luke gripped the blanket and with one quick sweep swung it over so that it was now cocooning the naked woman. Really there was no worry about him getting cold since he had the dry suit on but he was beginning to worry about Raina.
"Thanks for the save." He murmured quietly as his arm around Raina tightened slightly, giving her another squeeze before releasing, "You're quite a woman... quite a woman."

Raina was a little confused by the kiss to the forhead but chalked it up to lack of oxygen. Luke was feeling well enough to toss all of the blanket her way when she realized... "I'm quite a naked woman if you'll excuse me."
Though all of her muscles protested it she pulled the blanket tight and stood up traughting off to their pile of things for her clothes.
A few moments later she came back fully dressed in what she'd been wearing earlier with all of their things packed up- minus what Luke was wearing. This time she nelt beside him. She started brushing the caked on sand away from his exposed skin. "You warm enough? You really scared me for a minute there." she said much calmer this time
"You just stay still for a bit, I thought we'd have an audience but we don't. We've got a working infirmary at the school regardless of what it looks like I think we should take you there... it might be worse if the tabloids catch Luke Jacobs in the hospital." she joked. "But you just stay still and let me know when you feel well enough."
She curled up beside him again in the blanket despite the spraying surf and wind. She was so exhausted and knew Luke must be too... and for the moment she knew they'd be ok and safe from the cold.

"I'm quite a naked woman if you'll excuse me." Raina said, apparently finally realizing her state of undress. As she moved away Luke sighed inwardly, allowing his hand to trail down her skin as she moved away before dropping back down to the sand. "Any other time... any other place..." He thought wistfully as he closed his eyes and continued to concentrate on breathing.
"You warm enough? You really scared me for a minute there." Raina said again as he walked back over to where he was still laying in the sand and knelt beside him, gently brushing away the sand that was sticking to his skin. Her touch was so gentle and Luke had to focus to keep his mind from wandering to places that it really shouldn't.
"You just stay still for a bit, I thought we'd have an audience but we don't. We've got a working infirmary at the school regardless of what it looks like I think we should take you there... it might be worse if the tabloids catch Luke Jacobs in the hospital. But you just stay still and let me know when you feel well enough."
"I'll be fine after I rest for a little while." Luke answered softly as Raina curled up beside him, "And we don't have to go to the mansion... I don't want to be the cause of any rumors about you."
The sand was not the most comfortable place in the world but when he thought about having to stand up, strip off the dry suit, get redressed, and then make his way back to the apartment he just couldn't summon the energy to even begin the daunting tasks. But there was on task that Luke knew he needed to at least attempt. Knitting his eyebrows together in concentration Luke reached out for that 'switch' in his mind that he had so often used to turn off his sonar. It took several minutes to finally get his concentration to where it should be but finally he felt his senses beginning to return. Focusing on Raina's face for a moment he once again found himself amazed by just how beautiful she was.
"Sonar still works. Must not have any permanent damage." Luke murmured again, giving his best attempt at some sort of joke, "Guess I should have been more careful about not looking at your boobs... the sea wasn't to happy with me."

Raina stood still and expressionless for a moment and the burst into laughter. "pffft!!!" She grabbed her aching sides for support. "Luke Jacobs, near death and cracking boobie jokes!" She laughed.
She'd brought over her pile of things and rumidged for the first aid kit. Inside was a little flashlight like the ones they used in the hospitals. "Well if you wont go to an infirmary I'll bring one to you." she joked. She held the flashlight carefully in one hand and checked Luke's ears first and followed his forhead line to the other. "I'm checking your eyes." she told him. Without waiting for a reponce she gently opened one and looked in and then the other. Good, no scratches, bleeding, and thankfully no more sand. "Luke I've got some bad news for you, seems like you're blind."
She put the flashlight back in the box and pulled out the arm band for checking blood pressure. "You're going to hate me but it's important we know your blood pressure right away. It's something you wouldn't feel if it was wrong. I'm pulling that arm out of the suit." She reached behind his neck careful not to move him quickly and pulled the zipper down a bit. "Alright this wont be pleasant." she said reaching for his shoulder down the suit and as gently as she could feeding his arm, wrist, then hand out of the sleeve that had now deflated. Without missing a beat she fastened the velcro strap around his arm and started pumping keeping her eyes on the dial that read his pressure.
"Hmm.. a little high." she explained. "but not high enough to worry, probably just from the shock" satisfied she let his arm rest and put the contraptions back in the box.
"I've got a sandwhich here when you think you can sit up. It may help bring back some strength so we can try and get you home." she added pulling the cooler next to him so he could easily access it when he wanted. "There's a thermus here of Coffee too. I don't drink the stuff but I figured since you'd be the cold one you might like some eventually." she propped the thermus up in the sand next to the cooler.
"You know you're going to have to let me make this up to you." she said with her eyebrows togeather and no suggestiveness what-so-ever in her voice. "first I ruin our lunch and take over your evening, now I've nearly got you killed." she wasn't at all happy with things at all. "I think you'll have to come to my birthday party on the weekend and let me spoil you!" she said matter-o-factly.
"You know... if you're willing to come within 20 feet of me by then...." she joked. Raina had started using humor as a coping mehanism when she started picking it up from all the other mutants at the mansion. Prior to that she'd be akwardly nervous.

Luke chuckled slightly, glad that he had been able to make the young woman laugh and hopefully feel a little better about the whole situation.
"Well if you wont go to an infirmary I'll bring one to you." Raina said after her laughter had died away. "If you have to." Luke replied with the most over dramatic sight he could manage.
The examination seemed to move along quickly as her gentle fingers moved from his ears over to his forehead an then down to his face. "I'm checking your eyes." She warned him before going straight to work once more. It was strange to 'see' Raina examining his eyes without actually seeing her but Luke was used to strange things when it came to vision.
"Luke I've got some bad news for you, seems like you're blind."
It was probably the strongest laugh he could manage and he could already feel his sides complaining from the abuse. "Blind jokes? Low blow Raina... very low."
As the examination continued Luke was forced to withdraw his arm from the warmth of the dry-suit and submit to having his blood pressure taken. It was embarrassing to be so weak in front of a woman that he wanted to impress and enjoyed spending so much time with. A lot of supposedly 'knowledgeable' people wrote books about how a man's frailty was what really attracted women but Luke had yet to see that proven true. "I don't exactly have much of a choice here." He thought to himself as Raina gave him the report on his blood pressure, "I still feel like a child though."
"I've got a sandwich here when you think you can sit up. It may help bring back some strength so we can try and get you home. There's a thermos here of Coffee too. I don't drink the stuff but I figured since you'd be the cold one you might like some eventually." Raina offered as he pulled the cooler and thermos up closer.
"I think I'm strong enough for that." Luke replied as he pushed himself up to a sitting position, trying to have the grace that normally went with his movements but failing miserably. Sitting there with one arm in the suit and one arm out was just idiotic and so before he went for the foot Luke pulled his one arm out of the remaining sleeve and then pushed the suit down so that it pooled around his waist, leaving his upper body bare.
"You know you're going to have to let me make this up to you." The woman began to say as Luke dug into the cooler and pulled out a sandwich, not caring in the slightest what kind it might be. "First I ruin our lunch and take over your evening, now I've nearly got you killed. I think you'll have to come to my birthday party on the weekend and let me spoil you!"
Taking a bite of his sandwich Luke chose not to reply right away as he chewed quickly, swallowing and taking another bite of the sandwich without the slightest hesitation.
"You know... if you're willing to come within 20 feet of me by then...."
Swallowing Luke let his hands drop to his lap, the last bit of sandwich held in his left hand as he turned his head so that his 'gaze' was focused on Raina. "I'd love to come to your birthday party but are you sure you really want? Your other suitors will probably be crowding around to spoil you." Luke said with a slight smile on his face as he placed some emphasis on the 'you', "Of course of Calley or Neena is there I would still have someone to talk to. And one thing... quit talking about our lunch and evening as though everything went wrong."
Reaching out his hand slowly Luke captured one of Raina's hand in his own grip, the small smile still in the same place. "That was one of the best days I've had in a long time... thank you."

Raina could feel her face blushing and brimming with red. As she did many a time before, she thanked every religious figure in existance that Luke couldn't 'see' it. She snatched her hand back- it a comedic way not a rude way- and exclaimed "Luke Jacobs..." She was enjoying pronouncing his whole name with emphasis " haven't you figured out yet I haven't any other suiters?" she grinned playfully. "I just can't let men go thinking that one save in the rain and I'll run all eager to their apartments you know." she joked leaning her head tierdly against his shoulder and grabbing her own sandwhich.
She was so happy he was sitting up but she was feeling her own body working against her here. "date one psychopathic cop and people think you're easy." she muttered. "I couldn't have you, or anyone else for that matter thinking that" she explained still somewhat vauge. She wasn't about to pour out her life story to Luke but she figured he deserved to know he wasn't exactly up against anyone here... but that she wasn't exactly going to fold easily.
"So if you're going to keep talking about suiters..." she began "I expect to see you in a very spiffy suit." she grinned. She munched away at her sandwhich watching the water reflecting on how it could so easily give and take life away.
"I'm glad you had fun that day...' she admitted. "Trouble seems to follow me around. Or maybe it's just mutants." she added.
"What do you want me to do?" she asked. "I can take you back to your apartment... I'd rather know for sure that you're getting home safely. "

"There are no other suitors?" Luke thought in amazement as his smile widened ever so slightly. Maybe all that male weakness stuff wasn't such stupidity after all. It had been enough to get Raina to admit that there were no other suitors and that was definitely considered a triumph for the day.
"Date one psychopathic cop and people think you're easy. I couldn't have you, or anyone else for that matter thinking that. So if you're going to keep talking about suiters... I expect to see you in a very spiffy suit."
"OK, first... I've never thought you were easy or I probably wouldn't enjoy my time with you as much as I do." Luke responded right back as he turned his 'gaze' back toward the sandwich that remained in his hand. "And second... what color suits do you like? Black, gray, or white?" He finished obviously teasing before taking another two bites out of his sandwich in quick succession and finishing the food he had been holding onto for the last several seconds. He wasn't really full but Raina had been right that eating something was helping to get his strength back. Sure he wasn't at his normal fighting trim and probably wouldn't be for a day or two, but he was at least beginning to feel like an adult again.
"I'm glad you had fun that day... Trouble seems to follow me around. Or maybe it's just mutants. What do you want me to do? I can take you back to your apartment... I'd rather know for sure that you're getting home safely. "
"Thanks for the concern... I'd be glad to accept the ride but there is one, much more important question that you must answer." Luke answered, a touch of mischievousness moving back into his voice as he slipped one arm up and around Raina to rest gently on her shoulder. She had been the one to lay her head on him so that was inviting him to at least put his arm round her... wasn't it?
"What time are you coming back to pick me up for the jazz club you talked about? No way am I letting a near death experience cheat me out of another evening with you."
