The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He didn't react negatively to the revelations about her powers. Kealey couldn't help but smile as happiness spread across the emotional link between the two of them. This man was happy that she was a mutant...Kealey couldn't help but think that could only mean one thing.
Chris spoke and, Kealey smiled again, this time at the trust coming through the link as he spoke, shared his secret. "I knew there was something about you that was trustworthy." she said softly, still grinning, then she shook her head slowly.
"It's still odd for me to use that word...mutant." she said, turning her head towards the shelf to put a few more books up there, then looking back at Chris. "My whole adult life the nuns told me that I was simply blessed by God. We used my powers to heal, then we started to hear of others. I was a novice at the time, getting ready to take my final vows. They stopped me though when they realized what I really was. Said that I had a higher purpose."
Chris spoke again, asked another question and Kealey had to smile a bit ruefully, "I don't know the thoughts behind the emotions...just the emotions themselves." she stopped shelving, letting her hand fall to the side, the book thumping softly against her thigh as she spoke, "They effect me," she said, looking over at Chris again, "The emotions. The first time I remember feeling them was when I woke up in the rubble after the bomb." her voice was further away now, remembering, "I could feel all their feelings...all the pain, all the horror, the death. I hadn't realized until then that there was a feeling of death."
Kealey sighed and shook herself, as if shaking off the memories, "What about yourself? What's your talent?"
Listening to her wasn't hard to do here. Since they were in a library there wasn't much to distract Chris from her. Not that he wanted to ignore her. Kealey had an interesting past and Chris always enjoyed listening to people's stories, especially if they were mutants. "I didn't know there was a feeling of death. I mean you always hear about elder people on their death beds feeling death nearby, but I never actually thought there'd be one." He said to her.
He noticed the distance in her voice as she talked about her past. Kealey's experience wasn't to far from when Chris found out he had his powers. Although in her case she didn't cause the explosion like he did. Finally she came back to reality and shook her head. Her hair flowing around her head as she shook it. he blushed a little at the thoughts that came into his head.
When she asked about his 'talents' he picked up one of the books that was lying near him. He sighed. It wasn't his favorite subject and he was often quite embarrassed talking about it. "Well..." he began shifting the book in his hands, "I can control, create, 'n manipulate radiation. I can also create Electromagnetic Pulses." He said he knew that there was more to it but he wasn't sure how to explain it. Talking about his powers reminded him that he should try to find a book that carried information about radiation in it.

"There's a feeling alright...like nothing you've ever felt before." Kealey couldn't suppress a shudder at the memory, the recent memory even. The nuns...the monster in the church, she was so focused she didn't feel the embarrassment from Chris as she shook out her hair.
It was his turn to avoid her gaze now and Kealey could feel the trepidation flowing through their emotional connection now, the fear and the hesitancy. It was infections and she found herself feeling nervous as she stood and watched Chris decide what he would say.
The decision didn't end up being too difficult and he spoke. Kealey listened, listened to everything the young man standing with her had to say. He'd mentioned that his powers weren't nearly as benign as hers, and that was definitely the truth.
"Radiation?" She repeated slowly, letting the word roll off her tongue slowly, "You can harness the power in an atom?" a thin eyebrow raised slowly and Kealey tilted her head, "That's a very powerful gift Chris."
Kealey waited another moment, mulling over what it was she'd been told and fixed the young man in front of her with a stern look as she turned to face him fully. "Now the question is. Do you use your gift for good, or for evil?"
Kealey seemed like a good person. Not someone that would take lightly to telling that he used his powers for evil, not that he did anyways. She seemed intrigued by the fact that he could control the very atoms of radiation. Although, she also seemed a little worried. He nodded to her comment. Chris had to agree. It was a very powerful mutation.
Chris considered telling her more about it. He was lost in his thoughts, thinking about his powers and what he's done with them. The next thing he knew, Kealey was standing in front of him with a serious, maybe even an angry look on her face. "I don't use my powers to much." Chris began telling her. He looked into her eyes as he continued talking. "But I guess for good." He wasn't sure how to answer her question because it wasn't like he went out and fought crime like superman or fought with the Xmen. Chris wasn't even sure if his answer would satisfy Kealey or if she'd want a better answer.

"You don't use them much...that must be nice..." Kealey said, eyes dropping from Chris' face slightly as she thought about what life would be if she wasn't constantly bombarded with everyone's' feelings.
Kealey lifted her head and met Chris' eyes, studying him for a few moments before speaking again, "Since that day at the school...I haven't been able to be sure whether the things I'm feeling are because that's how I really feel or because that's what the people around me are feeling. For the longest time I didn't have a clue who I was. I envy your ability to choose when you use your talents."
Chris had mentioned that when he did use his powers it was only for good, "Good." Kealey said, a slow smile spreading across her features. "I'm going to trust you on that...mostly because of your face. You've got an honest face. Nevermind the fact that I can feel the sincerity you're feeling when you're talking."
As she spoke, Kealey checked the spines of the books, running a hand over the shelved copies and inserting the books from the cart where they belonged. The quiet that followed brought her back to her earlier thoughts, "That's why I lived in the convent so long...it was so peaceful there. The sisters, at least where I was, were so devout that their emotions were never startling or upsetting. I almost took my orders...then word of how they were registering mutants here came through and the Mother Superior decided I was meant for greater things." Kealey paused again, laughing softly at herself, "Though I'm not sure how I'm going to change the world by shelving books in a library...but for now it's the best I can do."
Chris blushed a little at her comments about feeling his emotions. It wasn't something he was used to. He continued to listen to her speak. He really liked listening to her voice because of the accent. Accents always made things interesting. It was all he could do. Being in a library, he did the only thing that he thought he could do besides listening to her. He absentmindedly flipped through the books.
"I don't use them cause I'm afraid of what I can do." He said simply. he quickly changed the subject to focus on her. Chris didn't like to dwell on his powers and the problems they'd caused him in his life. "It's always good to get to know yourself, especially with your powers. It's not always bad to start at the bottom. You can always figure out where you're most needed later on while ya work here." He said giving her a little pep talk type of speech. He smiled at her speaking about being in the nunnery. It was something that he wasn't to familiar with, especially how it all worked.

Chris had a point, starting out work at the bottom meant that there really was nowhere to go besides up. There was a reason she was in New York, a reason that she'd been called to come here instead of living out her life in relative seclusion and quiet at the convent that had grown to be such a comfort to her. New York City was as different as a place could be from the quiet study and prayer that the convent had provided her when she'd needed it most.
Chris had pointed something else out too, he didn't use his powers, he was afraid of them. Kealey could feel that keenly. Chris was uncomfortable when he talked about his powers, he was afraid even as he spoke of them. "How do you know what good could come of them if you never work with them to a point that they're useful instead of dangerous?"
Kealey paused, wondering exactly why it was she felt so comfortable sharing things with a person who had been an absolute stranger just a short time before. Reaching out, she put a hand on Chris' arm, the initiation of contact feeling strange to her. "For the longest time I couldn't even cope with what I can do. It was too much to feel all at once and I retreated into myself. I was catatonic for weeks after my parents and my sister died. It's taken me years to be able to be in public like I was this morning."
Kealey paused again and thought before speaking, "Are there people here that can do for you what the nuns did for me? Teach you that you've got a gift, not something to be afraid of?"
He could tell that he was making some sense to her. He was still feeling pretty nervous talking to her about his abilities. Chris listened to her. She didn't say much but she seemed truly interested in what he was saying. "I use them a little mainly to practice with them but it's not that often that I practice with them." He told her. When he spoke he was quieter than he had been talking before. When Kealey touched his arm he felt a little tingle. in his arm. He wasn't sure why his arm tingled when she touched it but it did. She then started talking about how she felt when she first learned about her powers. It was a little comforting to know that he wasn't the only one who had this issue.
Hearing this made Chris smile a little. "Ya. There's a school that I live at for the moment that deals with mutants. They help the kids there get control over their powers. I haven't had much time to practice though because there's so many people that need help I have to do a lot of the training on my own quite often. So it's taking me a lot longer to get better with them." He then thought for a second and became sad again. He then said, "You don't understand. Your powers didn't hurt anyone before like mine did. I'd rather not talk about that. I'm still not very proud of what happened."
