The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Garrett had been called away last minute for yet another emergency... honestly, the audacity of these people to have emergencies when Ghost wanted someone to metaphorically hold her hand! She paced in her own way as the plane was making its final landing checks or whatever... Ghost reviewed her responsibilities. Garrett had only given her three express instructions and she didn't mean to mess any of them up:
1) Make sure the techs have him tested for Haywire 2) See Garrett if something strange was happening or they needed his area of expertise 3) Ask Mister Barova if he will let the process be video taped for the sake of science
Ghost made a motion that felt like tapping her foot as she switched her perception to that of the tunnel she was told that the Artist would be exiting once cleared of all Haywire... and he would be cleared of all Haywire... because if he wasn't Ghost couldn't be held responsible for her actions. This Barova... he was the key to her solidity.
Turned again in her pacing, Ghost again wished Garrett were there. Well, there was nothing she could do about that one really. It was just that she hadn't planned on becoming an impromptu ambassador to a colony she had little to no ties with... scratch that. Garrett was a founding member and if she were tied to anyone it was him. So she was the recently un-estranged girlfriend of one of the founding members... she sighed. They just didn't put crap like that on business cards.
Ghost straightened her clothes, not that they were teh most visible and turned her body to face the mouth of the hallway, ready and waiting for Mister Barova the Miracle Artist.
Ghost tried to keep her face as neutral as possible when she first spotted the artist. This man... her life was in his hands and he was wearing a toboggan that looked like a mutilated animal complete with shiny plastic button eyes. Was that the artistic eccentricities or was that the kind of man he was? Ghost smiled and dipped her head, trying not to read too far into his almost flippant nature.
“Hello, Beautiful.” "Err-" She had to stop herself from arguing. She wasn't here to determine beauty or whatever... she was here to reach a mutual goal. Ghost focused more carefully on the man's face. He seemed young, but optimistic. He was relatively cordial at the very least. “I am ready whenever you are to begin, just show me the way. I of course am willing to wait but I will not have you wait any longer if you are indeed, ready.”
"I guess it's not hard to guess who I am." She fidgeted and then cast aside her worries. This was silly. There was no way to know anything until one tried, right? Her snappish military demeanor took over. "I am Ghost and Welcome to the colony Mister Barova. I know you are eager to begin so let us be on our way." Ghost motioned for the artist to fall into step beside her as she led the way through the hub. "If you would like a full tour, I'm sure you can be accommodated at a later time." she didn't stop at the marvelous cavern but instead led him directly to the medical station breezing past the nurse and leading the group to a private room that had been readied. It was clean, shiny, and sterile.
"We weren't entirely sure what you would need, but you have only to ask." Ghost bowed formally, something that she hadn't done in years. "Please take care of me."
It bothered her mildly that Mister Barova felt the need to answer her every statement. It was almost mocking when he returned her heart felt bow in his caveat manor, but Ghost was sure it was all unintentional. She was comforted most, not by his perfectly placed smile or well chosen words, but by his actions. He set about readying things with definite purpose. This was really happening.
”Now I have a couple of questions for you, I believe I have through email with the good doctor been informed well enough.”
"I will try my best to answer your every question." Ghost dipped her head and stepped quickly out of his way as he brushed past her grabbing this, readying that. "Doctor Wills has requested that your process be video taped if you do not mind. I heard that you two had worked some things out ahead of time through email. Forgive me if this was one of them, I am just trying to make sure everything is in place."
“Our plan is to build a replica of the body you currently wear." "If you're as good as you say you are, I won't even have to get new clothes." Ghost snapped her mouth shut after her comment with a smile. It had just popped out. Typically she was more polite. Bad Ghost. She was just so tired of failed attempts and ridiculous treatments. For sure, this one seemed the most promising yet. That was probably what scared her the most.
"Now as my words upon our introduction I tend to let my mutation lead me, so I may change something out of instinct. But when we are done all can be changed to your own preference...”
"We can cross that bridge when we come to it, Mister Barova. I am, as of now, your canvas. Anything personal for me can wait until you have fully expressed yourself." Ghost finished setting up the tripod and camera with the help of one of the artist's assistants. The little red LED flicked on making Ghost even more nervous.
“When we are done I also have a request of you... I would like to do a photo shoot when we are done, typically I work with nudes...”
Ghost felt the particles that composed her cheeks tighten and compress in what she knew was this forms expression of a blush. Nude. They had to turn on the camera in time for the question about nude photos. "Ehm." She stepped to the side out of the camera's view for a moment. "It's very possible that I will be so grateful and proud of the body that you have built that your request for photos, nude or not, will be approved. For now, I only ask that you forgive my skepticism and allow me to choose how to best fulfill your request upon completion of your work." Ghost folded her arms hoping that hadn't come out too harshly. "I will try my best to be a good canvas."
He motioned for her to stand next to an area he had been preparing and she did so. She was being a good canvas. "Now to put your mind at ease I would like to give you a demonstration.”
He wiggled his fingers and set about his magic. Sure, it was easy to be impressed. Ghost had no doubt that the man had talent and the mutation to back it up. When he had finished there was a sort of string wire frame that he had measured by eye against Ghost who had been drifting just next to the armature as he worked. It was very basic but he had to start somewhere, right? From there, the artist opened one of his many brief cases. Inside was... well skin among other things. Synthetic materials with, as far as she could perceive, the look and feel of real biological material.
“That will be where we begin, the very start of your new skeleton. These are the materials I will be replicating, to build the rest.”
"That's... kinda creepy. Uhm. From my perspective at least." She tried to clarify. "My sight works a bit differently. It just seems to me that you've brought in a suitcase full of real skin or something. But surely it is the synthetic biomaterial that Mister Barova has brought." It's not like the artist was a heinous murderer who ate people or something equally ludicrous...
She sighed steeling herself for this exercise. "I am ready. What do you need of me?"
“No, it is creepy but magnificent as well. These are all my reference materials for what exactly each of your organs and muscle tissue and everything else will be supplemented by when you merge with it, you are free to peruse it if you like..."
Ghost ran her intangible fingers over the material. She didn't worry about contamination since she wasn't actually touching them. How she wished that she could feel them! She keenly focused her perception. It was almost as good. Even more amazing to Ghost was the fact that this man, Barova, was willing to pay for all these things himself. Should she be worried about how much was this costing? He even mentioned about a replica body... repairs... it was just too good to be true.
“For now and for the rest of the time your part will mostly be reference, everything needs to be precise…”
She nodded and made sure to focus on the form of her limbs making sure that they were clearly defined. She didn't bother with the chair. Sitting and standing were essentially the same in this state.
He pulled out a hard substance and started breaking it down and forming a skeleton one digit and meta tarsal at a time. It was a facinating process to watch and Mister Barova made her feel like Cinderella as she stepped over the partially complete foot. She couldn't help but crack a little smile. She was getting used to his eccentric ways and it was actually fun to be around him as he worked.
His success seemed to only spur him on. He went completely into work-mode looking only at her with a strange focus that must have been his X-ray vision at work. He piled it all bit by bit, tibia, patella, femur... everything looked correct and it was another Cinderella moment when she stepped up to the lower half of what would potentially help her. It was amazing, but still she couldn't imagine this becoming a part of her...
“So, what do you think so far?” He wiped his brow and explained his specific process. She'd felt it happening. In reality their abilities were very similar except that she was able to change the state of atoms only as how they would naturally combine.
"I think... it's wonderful. Truly our process are similar, though I can only change the state of things into a gaseous state and let them resolve as they started." She smiled. "Maybe I can change you to be intangible some time. A little revenge if you will.“
Once the skeleton was finished Ghost drifted around it suddenly much more appreciative. "Is that really my skull? I mean - a replica?" It was a strange sensation... looking at your own skeleton. "Surreal." That was the word. Better than strange anyway. Ghost quickly went around to the back where there there should be a... yes, there it was a very small ridge where she'd taken a spill as a kid. "Had to have 5 stitches for that one." She pointed out the subtle anomaly with pride.
“here is one thing I am curious about, and more than likely will need to talk to someone on the medical staff, I am pretty sure I should leave the area for your brain empty…however, there is a material we could use if it is deemed necessary. I hope that it will not be necessary.”
"Erm- my brain?" Ghost squeaked out instinctively putting her hands up to her incorporeal head. The artist was already sculpting in his flamboyant manor again. Working on the digestive tract? Well, if anything he was efficient. Ghost wondered how long it would be before he tired... or if the work was intriguing enough that he would never tire... he could just feed his whole self into the project. Artists sometimes didn't keep track of things like food or sleep or anything like that. Ghost's job was easy. Stay relatively still and maintain her form. "If you need to stop and take a rest I understand." But he was so absorbed in his work he might not have even heard. Or at least he might have been doing that man thing where you hear it, but you don't really hear it until you think about it.
“I give you the digestive system.” He waved in a very Vanna White way to the organs he'd created.
"Cool." She had to admit. "Though... it's weird to think that everyone's getting to see my potential spleen. Oh- and about my brain," it was obvious through the words that she chose that she was becoming more comfortable around the artist, "Uhm, it won't hurt anything... to just leave it... right? I'll ask Doctor Wills about it too, I guess. It just kinda freaks me out to think about merging with... this." She waved her hand at the skeleton with the stomach. There were butterflies in its insubtantial counterpart.
"I'm sure this is only gonna get creepier, huh? Well, let's hope it's not all in vain. If I can't use it, I suppose the body will still be a nice work of art..." She eyeballed the skull... the skull with the same bump on the back... the skull that was her skull.
"I doubt anyone could talk me into resting... I will stay as long as you will." Ghost stretched in her own way, loosening and expanding her particles stifling a yawn before re-condensing. "I'm good. If I could let my hands and feet go for a while that would be fantastic. I guess after you finish working with those parts I could let them got for a bit, right?"
"... I don't believe it will hurt. We could do a bit of a test run if you like." He held his hand up to her arm. " I could weave a bit of epidermis and you could merge with it, see if their are unwanted repercussions."
"Ehm.. I'd rather not." Ghost rubbed her arm, the potential test site for a merger. "Maybe another day... besides if it works... if you make some skin that melds correctly with mine - then you'd have to design around that skin when you're putting the epidermis on, right?" She shook her head. "In my experience it hurts, but then again anything that I accidentally merged with before was not exactly what is already here and so it pushed everything around to accommodate itself... which meant that it hurt."
"I find it fascinating personally. if you'd like at any point, you, know you can say that you'd like the camera off as well, if you mean creepy for when I will be creating your more feminine parts..."
Ghost simply shook her head. "It's all science at this point. Even the feminine organs." She chuckled. "Though it may get interesting when it comes time to create the skin, the hair, the face... once it really starts looking like me I may take you up on that offer, Sir."
His had been working the whole time as they spoke. Creating and ever speaking a stream of words and clever thoughts as they occurred to him... it was amazing. Ghost imagined that she would never get tired of watching Mister Barova's process.
“Phew! I am sure you noticed I built them in an odd order, but I figured memorizing them alphabetical then I’d be sure to miss nothing. Cant miss ant veins now can we. the first was the endrocine and the second was cardiovascular.”
Ghost just looked at the man for a long moment as what he had just done replayed in her mind with new meaning. "You're unbelievable." She finally let out with a laugh and a shake of her head. "Alphabetical? Now this video is super educational."
