The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"So there is a spark of fight in you afterall. You're much more fun than the last time."
Iris cringed. "Your version of 'fun' leaves much to be desired," she remarked.
"I'm affraid I have some bad news for you though. Whether you want to be pulled into my plans or not you don't have a choice. No one on the entire planet will have a choice to decide to be part of my plans or not."
She shuddered again. "Everyone has a choice. You can't control that."
Syn was too calm, too arrogant. In the future it might be the girl's downfall, but right now....
Iris gulped, and closed her eyes. <"Peaceful place. Peaceful place. Peaceful place.">
Starting to get bored Syn wanted to make things more interesting. The area was soon flooded with pheremones. Ones to anger and enrage. Now all Syn ahd to do was continue pushing the right buttons.
"You're right Iris. Those who chose to live will join me. That is the only choice." Syn narrowed her eyes at Iris. "So, how about it Iris. Would you join me?"

In her mind's eye, the vision of Iris's peaceful lake began to blur around the edges. She found it harder and harder to focus on the ambient noises. The partially cloudy sky above seemed to darken, further distorting her mental image.
Her eyes blinked open, and Iris realized her breathing and heart rate had begun to increase.
Something was wrong. Seriously wrong....
"You're right Iris."
She looked up, and met Syn's gaze.
"Those who chose to live will join me. That is the only choice."
<"How dare she!"> Iris glared, wanting to rip that smug smile right off of the goth girl's pale face. How dare she think that she could force people to follow her! She wasn't anything special. Just another snotty little brat with powers she thought were so dangerous. Hah! For all she knew, Syn didn't even know how to fight! Arrogant little witch. If she thought she could control-
A lance of fear pierced her raging emotions, sharp enough to startle herself. Her eyes widened slightly, and she snapped her gaze back to the pavement.
<"She's doing this."> The thought came unbidden to Iris's mind. The heat on her back intensified, beginning to move to the center.
Syn narrowed her eyes at Iris. "So, how about it Iris. Would you join me?"
She shook her head, and backed away. "N-no. I can't. I won't!"
<"She's doing it again.... I.... I feel it...">
The clear gem began to pulse in time with her heart, and Iris's eyes widened further. She couldn't let this happen again. She wasn't sure what Syn's had done, nor how to stop it. Anger clouded her mind too deeply to focus. One specific signal managed to get through her nervous system, however.
<"Not the diamond. Don't let the diamond activate.">
The fiery pain resisted hotly, but in the end obeyed, and moved down. The shadows seemed to envelope Iris, dousing the blond of her hair and greying her skin. She pulled even further into the shadows until she seemed to melt into them and disappeared from sight.
Iris responded to the question almost how Syn thought she would. The girl refused with authority yet there was slight hesitation. Syn's powerful influence was clouding Iris' mind. She knew this because she recalled her little chat session in KP. Iris was not one to side with Syn for any reason.
Then something started to happen. Iris showed signs of being in some sort of pain. She was fighting against something. It wasn't anything Syn was doing unless the building rage had jump started something within Iris. "Now we're getting somewhere."
In a few short moments Syn watched as Iris seemed to dissolve into the shadows. "So...instead of joining me you've chosen to hide. Now I see why you like those pathetic X-Men. You cower just as they do. A bunch of weaklings and none of them with a spine to stand up with."
