The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Garrett could see an internal struggle in Iris' mind. Her emotions were also as obvious in her eyes and face as they were through the use of color. She seemed to know this Syn woman well enough to know she was not one to be trifled with. He really didn't care if he ever saw Syn face to face. His plans went above and beyond simply battling mutant to mutant.
Her stammering returned as she asked him what he had in mind. there was no reason not to tell her, though if one of these people were a psychic, it could compromise his plan of action. He would try to remain as general as possible, just to be safe." You seem worried, Iris. I don't mean to go knock down their front doors and put my pain powers on them. That might be exciting for the moment, but only the moment. No, I want them to stop being a shadowy organization that can apparently abduct and experiment on mutants with no ramifications."
"My plan is quite simple. I wish to expose this organization and Syn for what they are. To the world. No need for me to break down their doors or hurt a single hair on this woman's head when there would be countless others to do it for me once their identities are revealed. I asked for your assistance mainly because you seem to have connections and know people that I simply don't. I'm sorry if I scared you, dear." He held her hand warmly and smiled at her.

" You seem worried, Iris. I don't mean to go knock down their front doors and put my pain powers on them. That might be exciting for the moment, but only the moment."
Unconsciously Iris let out a sigh of relief.
"No, I want them to stop being a shadowy organization that can apparently abduct and experiment on mutants with no ramifications."
A random rumination fluttered by, before being settling into the back of her mind. <"Is that all? Shame.">
I'm sorry if I scared you, dear."
"Force of habit," she remarked, her gloomy air lightening a bit. She returned the pressure of his hand, before pulling away and straightening up.
"I don't know how much help I can really be. I never did find out where we were kept. And the only other time I've seen Syn was during Registration-"
She halted the rest of her statement, and blinked. After a moment she continued, "On second thought, I think I know someone who might be able to help. If she's in an agreeable mood."
From Iris's expression, her 'friend's' mood was as unpredictable as her mutation.
Garrett was glad to see that he hadn't frightened his new friend. She seemed relieved that he wasn't planning some kind of foolish assault. Doing things like that were for the strictly romantic. Should one want to actually get anything accomplished, the rational path was key. While his main plot of revenge was one of illumination, to steal the shadows from the shadows themselves, Garrett was surely ready and willing to dish out some pain. There were just proper places and times for those things.
Iris mentioned a 'friend' who may be able to help them with information on Syn and her organization. This was just the stuff Garrett was interested in. He couldn't hide the enthusiasm in his face or voice. Things always worked out, one way or another. " I'd be a fool not to take a chance with this friend of yours, Iris and a liar if I said I didn't want to. Any help you can offer is appreciated. I'm sorry that our meditations are over for the time being. It is temporary. I can't enjoy peace like I once could. Not without the balance of war."

"I'd be a fool not to take a chance with this friend of yours, Iris and a liar if I said I didn't want to. Any help you can offer is appreciated."
"Heh. You might feel differently after you meet her." The bland retort accompanied the motion of phone retrieval from her waist.
"I'm sorry that our meditations are over for the time being. It is temporary. I can't enjoy peace like I once could. Not without the balance of war."
Iris sighed, and ran her fingers lightly over the buttons on her phone.
"And, I'd be lying, too, if I said I wasn't disappointed. But.... I understand." She smiled sadly, then gave a vocal command to her phone.
"Activate program MPath."
She hadn't finished speaking when the air before them shimmered slightly. A three dimensional image of Iris appeared, and looked around at their location. At least, it resembled her physical appearance. But from the moment the hologram spoke, the differences were obvious.
"Central Park? You actually worked up enough guts to come back here?" Crystal leaned forward and narrowed her eyes at Iris. "What, did Hunter whip you up a new gem that doesn't change your hair?"
Iris ignored the image, and gave Garrett a resigned grimace. "Garrett, meet Crystal. Crystal is computer program a friend created for me."
"A computer program? Hardly." The hologram crossed her arms, and gave Garrett a once-over look. "You have no hair," she stated bluntly. Iris let her head drop slightly into her open palm.
Garrett was more than surprised as the hologram came into being. In an instant, he had realized that he was no longer a mere observer in the deeper dramas of mutanthood. The technology required to produce such an item was not a grab bag list from the local hardware store. It looked exactly like Iris. Not surprising, considering whoever this Hunter person was had probably created this as well as "whipping up" gems for Iris. It was a simple logical deduction that if the organization that Syn controlled hadn't created the gems or this, that there was yet another nefarious secret organization afoot.
Garrett chuckled to himself. The Mansion and its enigmas were but a drop in the bucket. The hologram turned to him and spoke, revealing its artificial intelligence. Garrett made no attempt to appear shocked. Remaining calm and collected made for a better introduction. "Completely hairless, actually. Just one of those mutation things, I suppose. Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Crystal. I'd shake hands, but well, you know." Garrett was always game for word play, especially with such an interesting character.
" No reason to beat around the bush. I was speaking to Iris here about a woman named Syn and her organization. She informed me that you might be able to help me find out about it. Can you?" He knew that Iris had mentioned the moodiness of this friend/hologram, but Garrett had to find out. There would be no coercion here. Just regular garden variety subterfuge.

"Completely hairless, actually. Just one of those mutation things, I suppose. Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Crystal. I'd shake hands, but well, you know."
Crystal snorted. "Yeah, might have some issues with that one." Her tone indicated more than the simple lack of physical presence on her part. Iris's cheeks flushed pink a bit in embarrassment, a pink that intensified when the hologram turned to stare at her.
"Now what's wrong with you? You're blood pressure just went up again. You seriously need a vacation, Iris."
" No reason to beat around the bush. I was speaking to Iris here about a woman named Syn and her organization. She informed me that you might be able to help me find out about it. Can you?"
Crystal turned her attention back to Garrett. "Syn? You mean the whack-a-doo goth girl with the plastic smile? Well, let's see what I've got on file."
She crossed her legs, and floated genie-style in front of the pair. A book appeared in her lap, representing her memory files. Iris blinked curiously as the hologram also donned a pair of librarian-ish reading glasses. Why would she need those?
Crystal flipped through her memory for a few minutes, turning the pages of her representative journal.
"All I have is a few of the basics. Aelly Ssyn, age seventeen, born in New York City. Not much else. Her last known residence, before Registration, was the Sanctuary, a homeless shelter built by Dorian King. I'd suggest you start there if you're looking for her." She continued to 'read' for a bit, then added, "Nothing about any organization. Of course, we all know there is one, somewhere."
The book closed and vanished. She yawned, as if bored. "If you really want to find her, I'd suggest blowing up a few buildings. Or just causing a bit of havoc in general. That always seems to bring out the fun characters in this city."
"Crystal!"
"What? It's true, isn't it? New York is Mutant Central. It only common sense that the most efficient way to find someone is to have them come to you." Crystal shook her head at Iris, as if she should have known that.
Garrett was entertained by the hologram's dramatic ways of doing things. Floating and looking at a book to access memory. That had surely not been programmed. Even more entertaining was Iris' natural shades of rosy red as she dealt with the device. Had it been Garrett's companion, he would have such a companion working with him all the time. It seemed a real shame to let such a thing of wonder go to waste.
Aelly Ssyn, a 'whack-a-doo' goth girl with a plastic smile. Seventeen. Seemed a little young to be leading much of anything, but he had seen stranger. The Sanctuary. The place he was going to go when he first thought of looking for help with his mutation. No coincidence then that Raina had unknowingly interceded. He had no doubts about who he would be if he had gone that route. they would have nurtured the demon and more than likely enticed it to take over fully.
" I appreciate the help, Crystal. What little it is gives me more than I had. Who is this Dorian King, though? Any files on him? If he created this Sanctuary, then he may be the financial backing. Usually the money leads the way." He thought of asking about Hunter, but whoever he was, he wasn't part of the organization Garrett was interested in and he was apparently intimately tied with Iris and Crystal. No reason to burn any bridges just yet. He would just bide his time and see what came on its own.

(OOC: Gotta love the head trips. ;D)
" I appreciate the help, Crystal. What little it is gives me more than I had. Who is this Dorian King, though? Any files on him? If he created this Sanctuary, then he may be the financial backing. Usually the money leads the way."
Crystal narrowed her eyes at the young mutant in seeming annoyance. But the 'book' appeared a second time for her to flip through.
"Dorian King. Age unknown. Birthplace unknown. Location unknown. List of business owned and/or associated with...."
She rattled off a number of well-known businesses, including King Pharmaceuticals, that even surprised Iris. She had never pressed Hunter for further information after crossing paths with Syn the second time, and hadn't thought to ask Crystal, though it seemed rather obvious now. Unless.... she hadn't wanted to know.....
"Huh. Sounds like the guy's a shadow to me. He hasn't been heard from or seen since before Registration," Crystal mused. "Here's a picture of him, though."
A three-dimensional, rotating head shot of Mr. King appeared in the air above Crystal's left shoulder. Over the right, a picture of Syn rotated as well. Iris involuntarily shuddered and looked away. One of these days she was going to have to face her fears, if she ever wanted to have some semblance of a normal life.
Today was not that day. Not yet.
Crystal saw her 'student's' reaction and rolled her eyes. Humans and mutants were a strange breed indeed. "Any other questions, since I obviously have nothing better to do?" Her bored tone dripped sarcasm, though it was directed toward Iris, not Garrett, her way of reminding her doppleganger of the lack of recent training sessions. "I hear the Sanctuary is back to normal once more. I could track down their hat and shoe sizes, and I'm sure Syn would love a housewarming gift. Perhaps something in early Iron Maiden?"

Sarcasm had been programmed or learned by this device in an extraordinary capacity. Garrett continued to nod and smile, enjoying the game they were all playing. He understood that to them he was just a young runt pup looking for scraps. Had it not been for the introduction of the virus, he wouldn't have been even that. Though he hated what had been done to him, he was secretly thankful for a side of him to be awakened that may not have otherwise.
The King reference had brought up little, though Crystal did provide images of him and apparently Syn as an added bonus. Now he knew her face. Looked like an easy one to remember. Couldn't be that many girls running around with red and black hair. The hologram seemed annoyed, but it was with Iris. He had to remember not to ignore his friend, seeing how all of this was apparently stirring some stuff up that she didn't want to deal with. He only had one more question.
" That's funny, Crystal. No, I won't hassle you further about things like that. I have to be responsible some time, don't I? I only have one more question for you and I will be silent. Well, for now. What do your amazing files say about Haywire? That is the true culprit that binds Iris and I together, after all." It seemed to be a fine card to play. It was his last anyway. He wanted to ensure that Iris didn't get overrun or feel used.

" That's funny, Crystal. No, I won't hassle you further about things like that. I have to be responsible some time, don't I? I only have one more question for you and I will be silent. Well, for now."
Crystal raised one eyebrow, intrigued.
"What do your amazing files say about Haywire? That is the true culprit that binds Iris and I together, after all."
"Haywire, huh? That's an easy one." She glanced at Iris, an indication that she would be asking her own questions later. "Haywire, aka Jacquelyn “Jack” Guy. Age fourteen. Birthplace New York Citiy. Last know address before Registration, Burke, New York. Her mutation causes humans to suffer varying forms and stages of illness, with one hundred percent chance of death if not removed from range. Mutants respond in varying ways, but the immediate response is lost of control in varying degrees, obviously depending on mutation. Fatality percentage is quite high, though much lower than humans, and it takes considerably longer exposure to result in death. Obviously Syn has found a way to recreate the Haywire effect without Jack's physical presence as a requirement. Because the effect is linked to the x-gene, only a small tissue sample would be required to enable recreation."
The hologram paused in her recitation, then added, "If you were exposed in the same way she was," pointing to Iris, "then likely death isn't in your future. She's been around for a year, and is in perfect health. Physically."
Iris spared the three-dee image a jaundiced look. "Thank you for reminding us of my level of sanity, Crystal, with which you are not helping."
Crystal smirked. "That's what I'm here for, Twitchy."
She continued to hover, her interest now thoroughly piqued. Should Iris decide to deactivate her, she knew she could easily reactivate herself, and eavesdrop via the phone.

Fatality percentages. Garrett had no idea that the virus was fatal to humans. It could be quite a terrible weapon in the wrong hands. Though it was a weapon already. There were no right hands for this stuff. He couldn't see any beneficial uses of the virus. It was sort of depressing. His mind seemed to have a permanent scar now due to the integration process. Could he really get revenge on Syn? The virus was the problem. Syn deserved a good kick due to attacking him personally, but the virus needed to be eliminated, one way or the other.
The hologram seemed to be enjoying herself, however that worked. Garrett was running out of pertinent questions, though, and poor Iris certainly seemed to be tiring from the whole thing. He decided to turn the focus to Crystal." So, Crystal, is there anything you would like to know? I've definitely gotten my answers."

" So, Crystal, is there anything you would like to know? I've definitely gotten my answers."
Crystal paused, as if considering the offer. When she spoke up, it wasn't with a question.
"I have no inquiries yet. I will later. But I do have a request, if you'd indulge my curiosity. Anything you find out, uncover, disclose, whatever you plan on doing with it, I'd like to know. Preferably before the rest of the public. Call it a hobby."
She made the request as if the information could be put into a ball and handed over. And her desire to know firsthand had no malicious intent for any particular 'side', though it might be hard to tell through her attitude. She simply desired to know.
"By the way, thanks." She smirked and she motioned at Iris. "Those meditation lessons of yours have done wonders for her anger issues. Any chance you could teach them to her father, too? Those two have a few issues to work thro-"
"Crystal! Deactivate program!"
Crystal frowned at Iris and huffed. "On second thought," she remarked to Garrett, "better work with her a bit longer first. Honestly, I do not understand mutants and humans."
Shaking her head, she held up both hands and snapped her fingers, then disappeared in an overly dramatic flurry of sparks.
"The feeling's mutual," Iris grumbled. She sighed, then turned to Garrett.
"Sorry. The person who created her for me is a technomancer with a twisted sense of humor. She's a good friend, and reliable. If you can stand her long enough."

She will later. Forethought. Another technological marvel right up there with the curiosity she mentioned. Then she wanted to know what Garrett planned on doing with any information he gleaned, yet seemed to remain neutral in what would occur as to the dissemination of said information. It made him curious with forethought as well. She could probably tell lies from vocal patterns, so he constructed a finely woven truth instead. " If I find anything of use to you, Crystal, you'll be the first to know." Of course, the parts which he would deem worthy of her knowledge he would decide at a later date.
Garrett was visibly pleased to hear about Iris' improvement with her anger issues. He really needed to focus at some point and try to help her more. there was just way too much going on with him for any kind of tranquility. Crystal's mention of Iris' father seemed to set Iris off a bit, though. He would have to delve into that very subject at some point, considering he only knew that he 'dabbled' in genetics, but apparently enough to create something as incredible as her gems.Perhaps when Crystal wanted her information, Garrett could offer it in return for some of his own.
"Sorry. The person who created her for me is a technomancer with a twisted sense of humor. She's a good friend, and reliable. If you can stand her long enough."
" No reason to apologize, Iris. That must be some incredible technomancer friend you have. I would love to even have a trinket of his. " No reason to apologize, Iris. That must be some incredible technomancer friend you have. I would love to even have a trinket of his. A mere child's toy even, to this person, would no doubt be the stuff of the future."
Iris agreed. Scary part about that? He was only fourteen. What would he be like in the future??
"Nevertheless, I found Crystal to be interesting, informative and rather spunky for a ..well, device. I can see that you two have known each other for some time and are as close as you could possibly be. Now, with the information I have, what to do next? Are you sure you don't want to get involved somehow? Could be alot of fun."
She thought about that for a moment, her gaze once more returning to the lake. A pair of swans swam by, leaving their own path of ripples in their wake. One event affecting another. One motion influencing others. Butterfly Effect, Dominoe Effect, Cause and Effect, whatever you wanted to call it. It all boiled down to one basic idea; whatever you do has consequences, and consequences touch everyone, somehow.
Now if only you could find a way to see those consequences in advance.
"I don't know about fun, but.... Maybe a little bit of proactive therapy would be beneficial." She held out one hand. "I'm in."
