OOC: Sort of going back and doing some history with Glare, and eventually Evie too. It'll sort of tell you about his character as a boy, and then a man, becoming who he is now.
IC:
Some say that the greatest heroes are born, while others say that the greatest are made. Actually, some say that there aren't really any true heroes at all, they're all a large figment of our imagination, a truly normal being with an epic blown out of proportion by the populous and human mind. But the truth behind the matter is a mix, heroes are born to be heroes, are made into heroes, and are not really heroes at all, at least, not inside... where it counts.
Central Park - Today
Zeke walked slowly through the park for the first time in months. He didn't know if the stalkers were around, and he didn't want to chance being suprised by them. He hadn't been found out yet, and he didn't exactly want to be found now, not now that he knew where Evie was.
He thought back to the days of the past. How interesting his life had been to this point. His mutation for instance. It was crazy how he had learned of his mutation. It was crazy to learn he had mutation in the first place.
His thoughts took him back to that time...
Tel Aviv, Israel - 1999
The boy stood up against a railing on the bridge. The bridge really didn't cover anything, it didn't go over anything except a gap between two roads that wanted to connect. Strangley enough, they didn't, and the boy had always wondered why. Standing here with his dark hair blowing in the crisp morning wind, Ezekiel White was completely at unease. His brow furrowed in thought, his eyes screwed up in concentration, one would have thought he was more man than boy.
But he was certainly a boy.
A boy who wasn't really a normal boy after all. Weeks ago he had somehow shot a greenish-yellow mist out of his palm in the middle of a grocery market, and it had been crazy since then. He didn't honestly know what was going on inside of him. He had heard reports from the United States newspeople that there was another race arising. One that was inhuman and uncontrollable. They were called mutants, and with each passing day Ezekiel began to believe he was one of them.
Yesterday he had created a block of the green compound in the middle of a street, blocking traffic and sending the police after him, once again. Like always, he had escaped through the confusing tunnel system in this part of the city, but one day he might not be so lucky. To be caught by the police would not only be troubling and problematic, it would be humiliating. What would father say after all?
He wouldn't say anything, father was dead. Known to his friends as Radar and his enemies as 'that freak', Ezekiel's father had been an honest man trying to live a normal life, until he met a man named Erik that is. Ezekiel noticed a marked difference in his father's character after that point, things were never the same again. It hurt to see his father that way, even as a young boy, and when his father had come to tragic end, Ezekiel had almost thought it put his father out of his misery. Almost. When mother had died, that had been the final straw.
Ezekiel became afraid and careful, always trying to discover the truth behind his parents. He hadn't learned the answers yet, but he was getting close. He had met a man named Shma, and he knew that the man was somehow involved. One day he would find out how.
Right now, he was standing here trying to figure out a way to explain to the Rabbi why he was late for prayers. The Hebrew prayers at sunrise were a custom for the Rabbi and his household, and when Ezekiel hadn't shown up that morning, he imagined that the Rabbi was likely a little worried and upset. Just a little.
Zeke, as his friends called him, had been looking for a way to explain it, an excuse, but none would come to him. Maybe he would just have to tell the truth, and that always hurt.
But how do you explain the fact that you just created a silvery cloud out of your hands and a bowl of water? Zeke thought it over and decided the truth was out of the question...
