The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Like the hallways of Mondragon Labs, most of the doors to be found were sterile and non-descript. A few of them were simple, run-of-the-mill swinging door, with a knob or push bar on one or both sides. Most of them were secured door, accessible only through the passing of one or more security features; finger/hand print, retinal scan, keycode, etc. These doors slid open and close with a soft hiss of air. One of these hiss-and-slide doors, however, stood out from the rest, for two reasons. One, because it required the highest level of clearance, given only to a choice few of the Lab occupants. And two, because it guarded one of the strangest kept secrets of the Labs.
Another door. Odd? Most definitely. Alone in its very own tiny room, just big enough for two people to stand side by side, this door was made of stone, and opened by, no technological wonder of modern science, but a simple lever and pulley crank. Behind the stone door were stone steps, spiraling down a stone-lined corridor. Caution was needed to travel this steep stairway, as a misstep could prove fatal, since the base of the stairs lay nearly five stories downward, with no landings along the way. The entire trip was reminiscent of a castle tower, its modern construction given away only by the lighting system.
The staircase’s end opened into a large open area, a garage of sorts, with reenforced metal walls and ceiling, and paved floors. Here, transportation waited, in the form of four black Hummers, and four black cargo vans. Once loaded, the vehicles travelled along a similarly reenforced tunnel. The journey lasted only ten minutes, shorter if the drivers or passengers were impatient. At the tunnel’s end lay an interesting sight.
An immense underground cavern greeted the eye. Looking up, the ceiling was lost to darkness, its boundaries unknown the normal eye. Looking out, the far wall similarly faded into the horizon. Between here and there, hidden by all scanning equipment and the world above, lay a massive estate. Seeming to defy the lack of natural light, grass covered the ground as far as the natural eye could see. In its center stood what must have once been a majestic stone-built manor, several stories high, and rivaling ancient Camelot in dimension. Overgrown gardens dotted the grounds. Within the ruined walls lay an open courtyard, leading into a hedge maze on one side, and a running fountain in its center.
Inside the, there could be found the remains of palatial decor, faded by time. Suits of armor guarded the many vaulted hallways, some of them slouching from their posts. Faded family banners and ancient weaponry lined the various rooms, and portraits of the manor’s long dead owners watched every movement below them. Room after room held testament to what was once a lavishly furnished keep.
While the massive estate was nothing more than ruins, it almost made for an excellent training ground, as the house itself hid a labyrinth; doors leading to more doors, hallways ending in seeming dead ends, hidden passages ways that led to nowhere, and many other secrets.
It was an excellent training ground, just perfect for a game of hide-and-seek, mutant-style.
Katrina and the six clones (minus Neptune/ Abyss) arrived in the underground cavern below Mondragon Labs long before everyone else was to arrive, carrying picnic lunches. They were here to figure out where everything was before the others arrived and started searching for them, or two of them rather. The others wouldn’t necessarily want to find the other five.
Katrina was awed by what she saw when she first stepped into the cavern. It was a giant underground cave. The ceiling was so high that she couldn’t see it. If it wasn’t for the stale cave air, she would almost have thought she was looking up at the sky on a cloudy, starless night. What awed her the most, though, was the giant castle right in the center of the cave. At least she estimated that it was the center, as she couldn’t actually see the far side of the cave.
Their explorations revealed secret passages, hidden doorways, and an old fashioned lift that was only big enough for two normal sized people. Or one very large person and one very small person. Katrina grinned at Pluto when they found that part; she couldn’t wait to try it out.
The castle had many different surprises in store for Katrina and Abyss’ brothers, but it would have even more surprises for the others who would be training there. Katrina knew that many of the rooms and hallways were equipped with holographic projectors advanced enough to make an empty dungeon look like the surface of the moon, if Crystal wished. Or she could conjure holograms of Katrina herself, complete with heartbeat, breathing sounds, and a heat signature.
Kat and the clones found a place to sit and eat their picnic lunch while they waited for everyone else to arrive. The game would begin promptly at noon.
(Abyss, I took a few liberties, let me know if I need to change anything!)
----------------------------------------------------- Each member of the resistance that would be participating in this training exercise had received a letter from Kaz that read as follows:
Remember that the main goal of this training is to prepare us to free the mutants in the camps as soon as possible. In order to do that, we need to learn to trust each other. We can’t beat the Stalkers unless we know how to work together. No single group is strong enough to take them out on their own, but together we will find a way. This exercise requires that we work together with new people in order to learn to trust them and to work as a team.
The goal is to work as a team to find Katrina and bring her safely back to your team’s starting base. The entire team must reach the finish together and no one can be left behind. There will be no use of powers and no weapons. Anyone that has powers that cannot be turned off will have a handicap that compensates for that power.
This training session will challenge your intellect, problem solving skills, physical abilities, agility, and above all the ability to work together with teammates.

Crystal linked into the arena from her cyberspace. She had been in the middle of comparing Greek mythology to Roman mytology, when a chime sounded overhead, alerting her to the first arrivals. She closed her book, and it floated up to the growing collection on the shelves. She hovered for a moment, then stood on her feet and walked to a door on the west wall. She opened it, and stepped through.
The doorway opened into the room at the very top of the ruins below the Labs, the site being used for this particular training session. Crystal had explored the area from top to bottom, as far as the holocams allowed, when she ‘stumbled’ onto its existence. Now she had the entire area was ‘wired’. In other words, she’d obtained access to all of the computer systems, holocams and other tech hidden within the castle walls. It was like the Danger Room all over again, but more interactive for her.
She walked over to the windows and looked out and down. She had a 360 degree view, and thus saw all of the players arrive. She decided to move in and get a closer look, but decided against showing herself just yet, starting with the Eastern Section.
Once back in the tower, Crystal moved to the center of the room. She snapped her fingers, and four copies appeared next to her in swirls of color. She held out her index finger, and each copy mimicked her. As their fingers touched, all five programs synced with each other.
”All right, you take the North, you take the South. You East, and you West. Sync in every ten minutes. Remember, no powers allowed. Mutations used receive a two-minute team penalty of immobilization. Any severe injuries equal disqualification for the offending player. Understood?” All four copies nodded in sync. ”Good. All right girls, lets make this game fun for us, and difficult for them.”
The four copies vanished among a flurry of sparks and echoed snickers. Then Crystal vanished herself, to go check on Katrina and Pluto.
On a mission started by my own admission I will leave you all behind
Katrina polished off her sandwich at 11:55, just in time for the game of hide-and-seek to start. Everyone would be arriving and getting ready to start now. Katrina was ready. She was doing what she could to help train the resistance, so they could learn to work together, learn to look out for each other, and come back alive from freeing the camps. She was determined to do her best. She had been practicing becoming invisible ever since the meeting where everyone planned out how to catch a stalker robot and she had gotten much better since then. She could stay invisible for longer periods of time, she could make someone else invisible along with her, and she could send out an illusion of silence to mask footsteps and heat-beat noises.
By direction I'll create my own protection The real me you'll never find
Pluto was with her, as a safety precaution. No one was supposed to use their powers or any weapons, so it was unlikely that anyone could get hurt, but it was good to know that someone was looking out for her. She grinned up at him (up- because he was so much taller than her).
Aspirations turn to fear and desperation Nothing's ever good enough for you
“We can bunker down later, but probably not in the smallest place we can find.” Katrina wasn’t a winking type of person, so she just gave him a lopsided grin instead. Pluto wasn’t going to fit in any small places. “Besides, that’s boring. Your other ideas sounded a lot more fun.”
After he scooped her up and set her on his shoulder, she added, “I like the idea of joining the other guys in setting traps and causing trouble. I think if I turn myself invisible and leave you visible, then they might assume you’re one of the clones that they should avoid. You’ll have to let me balance on my own though, otherwise you’ll look funny. Don’t worry about me falling though. I have pretty good balance and I know how to fall because I’ve fallen off horses before.”
“Let’s do it!” This training was serious, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t have a bit of fun while they were at it.
Burn in sorrow 'cause I see there's no tomorrow You'll only see what I want you to
Katrina stifled a laugh. If he was going to keep saying such funny things, she was going to have to add a silence illusion to keep people from hearing her laugh. “I know you’re not a horse, you’re just… about the same height.”
Spiral staircases and chandeliers, this place was definitely cool. “See that chain that it’s tied to? We could tie that to the door, so if anyone gets past the barricade it will fall. The chandelier part isn’t right by the door, so it should just make a lot of noise. I don’t think it will hit anyone. Can you hold the weight of the chandelier while you retie the chain?” She knew he could carry a tiger, but didn’t know exactly how strong he was.
Way down deep inside there is a real me I'm always gonna hide and this is who you'll see
“I think there was some clear plastic wrap from lunch, we could put it across one of the doors.” Katrina snickered, “They’d probably think it was an invisible force field. Oh, and we can use our plastic glasses from lunch too. We can fill them with water and put them over another doorway.”
They got the cups and plastic wrap, and then Pluto started collecting some metal bowls and things and setting them in front or doorways as they went through them. I see; alarms. Now we’ll know if anyone comes through this way.
As they made their way, setting alarms and other annoying traps, they found themselves in a long hallway filled with suits of armor along both sides of the corridor. “This has potential,” Katrina commented.
Way down deep inside they haven't found me yet I'm always gonna hide and this is who you'll get
Katrina wondered how they were doing on time. Some of the teams must have made it into the building by now, but so far it was really quiet. Maybe they were still learning to work as teams, out in the hedge-maze. They would hear them coming now.
“I’m sure someone could make a special suit of armor for you, if you wanted. That would be really cool. I’m not the armor type myself. I don’t get in many fights, so it wouldn’t be useful.” She covered her ears as Pluto made the arm of one of the suits move; it squealed in an angry protest. Katrina surveyed the corridor. There was another door at the other end of the hall, and both doors opened inward.
“I’m thinking dominos. We can set these up so if they open one door, the armor will all fall and block the other door. It will be a dead end, unless they decide to use up their time to move all the armor out of the way.”
Pluto mentioned her magic, which reminded her of the advice Calley had given her about sharing her powers with people. She had decided that only her invisibility would be public, and she would only tell people she trusted about the illusions. She did trust Pluto and Neptune and all the others, even though they had gotten off to a rocky start when they first met. “Hey Pluto? Could you not mention the whole illusions thing to anybody? A little birdy told me it would be better if bad people didn’t find out everything I can do, so mostly people only know that I can turn invisible and turn other things invisible too.”
Katrina had a hard time covering her ears this time, since she was too busy grabbing on to Pluto’s head. She had to wrap her arms around his forehead to keep from falling as he moved around suits of armor. She momentarily lost concentration as she tried to balance and became visible again.
She was glad he understood about keeping her powers a secret. He didn’t even ask who the little bird was.
“What do you mean by ‘the testing was worse’?” He made it sound like he had a run in with some bad people of his own. Surely Abyss could take care of himselves. Katrina referred to Abyss in her mind as all the brothers together, and each of the planets when they were separate. Even though Neptune and Abyss were the same, it made it easier in Katrina’s mind to think of all of them together as having one name and all of the separate as having different names.
“But you are great company!” Katrina protested his last remark as he tapped her lightly on the nose with his giant red finger. “Oops, that reminds me,” and with that Katrina turned invisible again. There was probably no need to be invisible yet, but if their alarms didn’t work and the teams were sneaky, she might not hear them coming in time to put up an invisibility illusion. She was better safe than sorry she figured.
I'll be gone until Feb. 1st. Don't worry about waiting up for me to return to keep posting. You can all work on your team work skills, you can invent your own obstacles to over come, and generally just assume that you haven't found Kat yet. There should be plenty for you to do while I'm gone, so please don't let my absence hold you back!

(OOC: Have fun Katrina! And don't worry, the clones and Crystal will keep everyone busy in your absence. *rubs hands together and chuckles sinisterly*)
As Pluto finished placing the final suit of armor, a swirl of fireworks sparked into existence, courtesy of the holocameras set up all over the ruins. Crystal appeared, and surveyed the scene, smirking in high approval.
"Well, y'all have been busy little beavers, haven't ya? I like. This little exercise should prove most entertaining.
"I've got four clone programs getting ready to keep the teams busy outside. Once they get inside, you boys can make life as difficult as possible. Then we will make things as confusing as possible."
To emphasize her words, Crystal activated a new program she'd been fiddling with. Basically it was an image program, allowing her to change her proxy as needed. This time she altered herself, growing shorter and darkening her hair, until she looked very much like Katrina. She grinned at the twelve-year-old, and the six red men.
Katrina listened to Pluto’s story. She didn’t know what to say, so she just wrapped her arms around his forehead and gave him an invisible hug. She let go when Crystal appeared quite suddenly in front of them with a flash of colorful lights. She certainly knew how to make an entrance.

>>>"I've got four clone programs getting ready to keep the teams >>>busy outside. Once they get inside, you boys can make life as >>>difficult as possible. Then we will make things as confusing as >>>possible."
Then Crystal transformed herself, she shrunk down until she looked just like Katrina. The new Katrina grinned at the original twelve-year-old and Pluto. Katrina smiled back at herself, a little startled.
It was a little odd to have herself grinning back at her. This new version looked a little odd to Katrina until she realized it was because she was used to seeing herself in a mirror, and Crystal had copied her exactly, not mirror image style. Katrina could also see through her slightly, the same way she could see through her own illusions, though she suspected that Pluto saw the new Katrina as a solid object.
>>>"Let the fun begin!"
“Hey Crystal? You can see me right?” It seemed like kind of a silly question, since the hologram was looking right at her even though she was currently invisible, but Katrina wanted to test her theory. She didn’t think she could fool a computer program with her illusions, since it didn’t have the same senses as a person.
Chances were that if Crystal could see through her illusions than a security camera could too, or a Stalker robot for that matter (not that she planned on going anywhere near Stalker robots). A thought occurred to Katrina that she may have been very lucky that a police officer had searched her bedroom at the mansion during the raid instead of a Stalker. If she couldn’t hide from a Stalker than she had been a 50/50 chance away from being sent to the camps herself that night. She shuddered at the memory.
(OOC: Sorry Abyss, backtracking just a little to ask Crystal a question. Hope that’s okay.)
