The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jaya sat there as she watched the two men head back toward their building, then she heard her stomach growl: she needed food. She hopped off the fire escape, landing quietly on the ground. She straightened, brushed herself off, and walked up behind them. "Hey, what's your names?" she asked them, catching up a bit.
"I'm James, and this is Eric." James looked back as he answered. "What might your name be?" James knew how excited Eric must be to have a new person to add to our roster for the MATNW. James walked up stairs and took his mask off as he climbed them.
She followed up the stairs, struggling to keep up because her curiosity kept causing her to stop and look. "I'm Jaya, Jaya O'Riley," she said. "But that's not my real name, well, it is now, but that's not the name I was born with. I bought a new name when I left home." She pulled something out of his pocket and held it up, it was a rather gaudy necklace with a cross on it. "What's this?"
James had never answered her about the necklace, but she decided just to shrug it off. If he didn't want to talk about it she wasn't gonna let it bother her. Over the last couple days Jaya had enjoyed cooking for the two guys and herself. She had longed for real food for months, and now she was feasting on chicken and pasta and pancakes, whatever she could think up. She had also enjoyed sleeping on a real bed: it was on an old-fashioned iron frame, but the mattress was incredibly comfortable, and the feather pillow was more than she could ask for. To pass the time Jaya had bought some green paint which was slowly making it's way across her walls, a little every day, until she had successfully painted her entire room a neutral green tone. She sat back in her bed, the door was open and she was 'relaxing' when she saw Eric walk by her door and peek in. She held up the knitting needles and yarn in her hands. "Look at this! This little old lady at the park taught me how to knit! It's wicked cool, now I'm actually doing something productive while I keep my fingers moving, and it's much more fun than tapping away all day."
*she yawned* You know, if we're not going to do anything I'm just gonna take my leave. I'm itching to go find a new place, maybe where more happens. It's been nice having the bed and the food and all, but I'm getting pretty bored.
She was finishing packing her bag when Eric walked in. He didn't say anything. "I'm leaving," she told him. "Thanks for everything, but I have to go. There's a train ticket with my name on it, and I have to get going before it leaves." She zipped up her bag and hefted it over her shoulder. "I left some food in the fridge in case you guys get hungry and don't feel like cooking." She squeezed past Eric and out the door. She walked down the stairs and left the warehouse. She walked down the alley where the shattered glass lay around the building edges. She walked all the way out to the main street and the crowds of people, and then she disappeared amongst them, headed for the train.
