The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Quin winced when Will pointed out that he was going to be picking gravel out of his back for a month. Quin was probably in the same boat, though she’d taken most of the rock shrapnel in her shoulder and leg.
A stroll through the car wash? The redhead laughed and shook her head, ”I think the hot wax is a no from me.”
As they made it back to the truck, Quin noticed that both she and Will were doing their damndest to downplay their part in the apprehension of the metal man. Truth be told, Michael had really done all the heavy lifting…both literally and figuratively. Michael seemed to see Quin’s inability with the rifle to be acceptable and even seemed impressed that she had been willing to admit her ineptitude and pass the weapon off to a professional. As funny as the idea of shooting the wrong person in the ass seemed, in this case it would have resulted in an absolute disaster for everyone involved.
But…better than most men? That was a rich comment for Michael to make in his current form.
Michael did offer to show her the leg thing and then said she could practice it on Lee and in a roundabout way asked how the sparring session had gone.
”She kicked my ass all over the gym, like I’m pretty sure you knew she would…but we’re going to meet up again. I managed to get away with her only punching me in the face once. You could have let me know that she was some kind of tiny Rambo.”
Will asked a question then and Quin frowned a bit at Michael’s description. A government agency that had agents trained specifically to apprehend mutants and contain them based on powers?
That definitely rubbed Quin the wrong way. Sure, being a mutant didn’t automatically mean you were a good person…but the government having containment specifically to negate powers seemed…not cool to say the least.
Michael moved to the back of the truck to do something and Quin looked over at Will, ”Dunno how much I like the sound of that…” she said, but this probably wasn’t the best time for that conversation. ”Michael works for the place where I live…he was doing classes and he recognized me…apparently we’d worked together? Against each other? I don’t know…but I asked him for help to learn how to fight better…”
Michael was climbing back into the front of the enormous truck now though, dressed in clothing that seemed to actually fit and using the radio to call in the capture of metal man. That meant this whole shifting thing was a regular occurrence.
”Must be inconvenient having to drag extra clothes everywhere you go.” she said as they got on their way.
Where Will and Quin were already hoping to take the rest of the day, or week, off, it seemed like Michael was resigned to continue her assault against the chaos that the city was in. That made sense, with the way the truck was loaded up, Michael really did seem ready to take on an entire army... or maybe a platoon? Will wasn't very military minded.
Michael and Quin chatted briefly, Michael telling Quin that knowing the limitations of what people were capable of was better than trying to wing in and making things a bigger mess. That she'd done better than most by being level headed and handing the rifle off. Will had to wonder where that put him, back when he'd been hanging off of Knightstick like a cape. Had he helped or gotten in the way? Suppose he'd only worked with the information he'd had at the moment. Will had reacted, thinking Michael had been completely out of the fight, rather than stunned, but it definitely hadn't been a thought out assault. Regardless, it all worked out in the end, right? And seeing how tenacious the metal mutant was, overall, he felt like he'd probably made the right call.
The two continued to talk, discussing sparring, the neat leg trick, that they both knew a woman named Lee who Quin described as a 'tiny Rambo' as she'd gotten summarily kicked up and down the length of the gym. Will's ears perked at the name and description of the person, it sounded like someone he'd run into by chance not too long ago... but pushed the idea to the back of his head. The world was weird enough without that many coincidences all lining up... He'd ask Quin about it later, when his head cleared. Maybe.
Michael's reply though, about who'd be taking care of their angry Tin Man, gave Will a bit of a chill, as Michael said that SUPER would be taking care of things, even going on to clarify it was a whole group set up specifically to deal with preternatural threats, trained to mitigate and deal with all sorts of powers. It made sense. Sure. Handcuffs and bullets weren't going to stop a someone like Knightstick, or Michael, for that matter. But still... Will had always heard vague bogeyman kind of rumors about the group, but hearing it spelled out, and seeing the kind of kit that Michael was carrying around She -was- SUPER after all, the cop earlier had identified her as much.
And of course of the single digit people whom he'd talked about or used his powers in front of, one of them would have to be a part of all that. And he'd given all his information to the cops here. He'd always tried to lie low and in an afternoon he suddenly felt like there was a target on his back.
Quin started to talk to him before the knots in his stomach had the chance to convince him that bolting away on foot was a better idea than staying here. She voiced her own concerns about the idea of SUPER. Will nodded his agreement to what she said on that, though kept his own mouth shut, beyond a simple, "Yeah." He opted to focus on listening instead as Quin continued.
It sounded like her relationship with Michael was a lot more complicated than he'd first assumed. They were, he presumed, friends, but there was some history (or not-history in Quin's case? All that still made his head spin trying to think about.) between the two of them, they'd been colleagues, or enemies... maybe both? And she'd asked Michael to help teach her to fight. Guess that explained the martial prowess shown in the cafe.
Regardless of the exact details, it helped calm his nerves a bit hearing Quin had some reservations about SUPER, that maybe it wasn't just all in his head. It was enough to convince him at least that the Fordasaurus escort was a smarter idea than hiking across the city with the state things were in, listening in with interest as a freshly dressed Michael called in for what Will guessed was a clean-up crew for their metal manipulating friend.
"Is the whole city like this?" Will asked once Michael had put the radio back in it's place. If he and Quin were trying to hitch a ride home in the armored escort, would 'home' even be safe?
The description of Lee put a small smile on Ranger’s face. For better or worse–likely worse–Ranger had a very sink or swim attitude to training. Especially hand-to-hand training. You get better by engaging in fights with people who push you, that make you struggle. Humans learn best when pushed to an acceptable level of failure. It solidified the new and presented flaws. Yet, from time to time a full on whooping was necessary. Put your failure points into stark relief and provide a point from which you can only grow. Not to mention training against someone better meant you were forced to give your all.
”Guilty.” Ranger confirmed that she knew Lee would kick Quin’s ass all around the gym. ”That is my bad though, f’r not warnin’ y’. But, hey. New trainin’ partner. An’ someone who's stylistically different from me. New learnin’ opportunity.”
Fighting and helping others fight was something Ranger had found she really enjoyed in her new post de-aging life.
After Ranger had made her call on the radio Quin commented on the inconvenience of having to drag extra clothes everywhere.
”Extremely.” Ranger said as she adjusted the seat for her new proportions. ”Could be worse. The mystic could’ve killed me ‘r worse. Instead my power jus’ has me needin’ two wardrobes now. Thankfully my wife ‘n’ I are almost identical.” and not just sizes. ”Whatever I’m doin’ that day, I jus’ throw a bag with another set in the car in case I switch.” Pragmatism at work. Making the best of a wild magic situation.
To Will Ranger said, ”Not the whole city… but a lot more than I’d expected.” Ranger put the truck in gear, ”Between local LEOs, Feds, National Guard, an’ the X’s… Its generally bein’ contained. It’s an organized-disorganization. No method, just madness to the point madness is the method. Had the attack been more coordinated, it’d’ve been a hell of a lot worse. Side note, if something crazy happens.” Ranger tapped the glass which had an odd sound. ”ALON windows. Transparent aluminum. Thick enough t’ stop a fifty. The body is up-armored as well. Y’r safe inside.”
Ranger wasn’t sure how worried Will was in the situation but felt trying to help him feel somewhat safe for the moment couldn’t hurt.

The longer things went on, the more quiet Will got and Quin wondered if everything was starting to catch up with him. Quin knew that at the moment she was existing purely on the dregs of her adrenaline and the knowledge that they were heading home.
What Michael had said about what was happening in the city was incredibly unsettling. Just the idea that there was an ancient running around and causing this kind of chaos suggested that things were just getting started. Suddenly, Quin was even more grateful that she lived at Haven. If anywhere in the city was going to be secure, it was that building.
Quin explained more about how she knew Michael and the more she talked, the more self conscious she got. It was awkward to have to keep qualifying things about her life, and it was even more awkward to have to keep bringing up everything she’d had to tell Will in the hospital tent. Context helped sometimes though, and it was just a garbage situation.
At least Michael had the good grace to admit she’d set Quin up for failure with Lee…but she had a point too. Lee was completely different stylistically than Michael was. ”Did you know that she hasn’t had any formal training? She asked me what aikido was.” Quin paused for a moment, “Right before she took my legs out and almost choked me to death.”
A mystic had been responsible for Michael’s shape shifting? That was an interesting twist and it was also apparently lucky that Michael was alive. Michael was also married and that was kind of cute. Quin had to wonder though, what was Michael’s wife like? They were apparently of a similar size which had to make things at least a bit easier. ”Do the different forms do different things?” she asked, finding herself curious.
Will finally spoke, and Michael answered the question pretty thoroughly. It sounded like things were calming down at least a bit, and that they hadn’t been all that organized to begin with. At that, Quin shook her head. This had been the best case scenario? That was a hard pill to swallow.
At least the “Fordasaurus” was well equipped if something else happened. The windows could stop a fifty whatever that was.
LEOs. Mystics. Akh. Feds. X's. Sorceresses. National Guard. SUPER.
Will almost felt the need to grab his head to keep it from spinning as he tried to keep straight the list of names, groups, acronyms and titles, some known, others not, one or two he'd only had vague ideas about. His best customer service skills were on deck, keeping his expression careful blank as he was both appreciative of how calm and nonchalant Michael was being about all the... everything, while also being utter flummoxed about it. Part of him was even almost angry, or maybe embarrassed? Will prided himself on usually being the more aware person in the room, super-senses tend to help with that, but here he felt about 7 steps behind and slipping further back with each conversation.
On the plus side, Michael did sound confident that things were, more or less, in hand. Or at least that they were being handled as well as possible. Will did note that there was no explicit statement that there wasn't trouble elsewhere, or that there was any specified safe zones... at least outside the Fordasaurus. If the windows were the weakest point, and he assumed they would be, and they could still stop a .50 caliber round, there wasn't much of anything getting through. Save a mutant like Michael, or a sphinx (The Sphinx?). An ancient sorceress. Someone who could manipulate metal. Okay, so it wasn't bullet proof. Well, it pretty much was--
Will shook his head as he realized he was doing the mental equivalent of rambling, cross currents of fear and anxiety and the side-effects of running on adrenaline catching up with him. The Fordasaurus was as safe as anywhere in the craziness of the city right now. They were all working to stay safe. He'd worry about the rest later.
Luckily, Quin and Michael were busy with their own conversation as he sorted his head out, Will managing to get his brain mostly unscrambled by the time Quin was asking Michael if the different forms that she (they?) had had different abilities. That would make sense. Action Hero didn't move all that fast to dodge the bat, but maybe that was more a reaction time thing? Will was well aware that just because your mutation boosted something, didn't mean it did it evenly or in a way that your body could always handle or take advantage of.
"Good t'know this thing's as much of a tank as it looks then." Will commented, rapping on the side of the behemoth vehicle with a pair of knuckles, as though to test the toughness of the outer shell. He had no idea what he was looking for, but it seemed like the thing to do. "But... y'mind explaining a few things once we get going? Feeling like I'm missing every third word with some of these conversations." Will paused, giving a little apologetic smile and glanced over at Quin, trying to gauge how much she had been keeping up with the barrage of unusual information, before turning his attention back to Michael.. "Uh, assumin' stuff like Akh and, mystics and everything aren't some black file, need-to-know type stuff."
Did Ranger know Lee was untrained? No, but, ”I suspected. An’ what’s a sparrin’ session without someone takin’ someone else’s breath away?” That might have been Ranger’s training in grappling and submissions talking. She did put down Knightstick with a choke after all.
The truck started rolling when Quin asked about Ranger’s different forms doing different things.
”Male has strength an’ can shrug off bullets… an’ bats t’ the skull. Female has speed an’ electrical an’ fire resistance. All things I could do before… jus’ tied t’ different forms now. The most awkward part is that this form,” Ranger gestured to herself with one hand, ”Is like a short twin of my wife. Nearly identical face… Our daughter loves it.”
For his part, Will seemed to appreciate being in a tank of a truck. It made him comfortable enough to ask for more details on what Ranger had been saying.
”Y’ll have t’ let me know where I lost y’, but I can start with mystics and Akh. No sense keepin’ too many cards close t’ the chest. Y’re livin’ this now.” Ranger craned her head to look around a building as she turned the truck. The engine roaring as the truck brought itself back up to speed as it finished the turn and straightened out. ”Mystics use magic. Real honest t’ God magic. Akh is one of them, sorceress from ancient Egypt. She was incased in stone until recently. She wants t’ ‘bring back her king’. She has some artifact, an ankh. Somehow it’ll help her bring back her king an’ her gods. This mess is her tryin’ t’ buy her room t’ act.”

Michael explained how her two forms worked and Quin nodded. Something about whatever the Mystic had done had split powers that Michael already had into the two forms. And the female form looked just like Michael’s wife? And Michael had a kid. Quin didn’t know why all of this was a surprise to her, but Michael had always seemed like the stoic loner type in their short acquaintance.
”Bet that was a surprise the first time.” Quin said, but she couldn’t help but think how unluckily Michael had been. To have been caught up in the same thing Quin had and run afoul of a Mystic like that was just awful luck. Maybe that was the curse of being involved, when you were constantly in and around wild and dangerous situations, wild and dangerous things could happen.
Quin thought she had probably been that sort of person before. How else would she have ended up like she had? It was weird to think of herself in that way though because in her current iteration Quin couldn’t imagine going out of her way to get in the middle of something like this.
Michael was knee deep in this though and as Will asked for more info, Quin turned her attention to the front seat. The more Michael said, the more Quin frowned, shaking her head. Today was supposed to have been a day to get caught up on her work, have a cup of (surprisingly tasty) coffee, and maybe have a nice conversation with a new friend. Suddenly they were talking about ancient beings once encased in stone trying to ‘bring back’ a King of some kind. At what point was it acceptable for everything to be too much?
”So…what happens if Akh manages to do what she’s trying to do?” It was the obvious question, right?
Alright, so sorceress wasn't just some term or title for some mutant with a really funky mutation. Magic was real. That was going to take some time to fully sink in. But Will was, as Michael said "livin' this now" and so nodded along as Michael explained a bit about some of what Will had asked. Mystics used magic, and seemingly one of them was the cause of Michael's need for more frequent wardrobe changes -- that wasn't just their mutation. Akh was one of them, and he guessed (hoped) was a frighteningly powerful one if she could survive for thousands of years and call on enough power, magic or resources to drum up a city-wide storm of trouble like this.
She had an artifact? More magicky stuff, Will guessed, she was trying to bring back her king? Her gods? Even the cliff notes of what was going on sounded utterly insane and overwhelming -- but knowing what they were dealing with... helped? Almost? The utter absurdity helped at least, in an odd way. It was all too big and strange for him to get properly scared of, unlike the more mundane happenings within the city, it gave him a target, faceless as it currently was to him, to target his frustration and anger at. Akh could be stopped, presumably, and it seemed like Michael had about as much info on the happenings as one would need to do just that.
"So. We're (we're? why was he including himself in this crazy bit of trouble?) up against a magic mummy who's got the power or resources to turn the city on it's head, as a distraction?" Will couldn't help but sound a little incredulous, shifting in the backseat with the sound of some of the equipment back there rattling, either his shoulder or heel bumped one bit of kit into another. "Either of you know magic then? Or can you just bop a mage as well as you can a mutant?" Will looked between Quin and Michael in curiosity.
Honestly, it was all vaguely reminiscent of the sorts of conversations he'd overhear during tabletop game nights at the cafe, (oh man... he still had to call the owner about that...) though admittedly the equipment around for those conversations had been more colourful dice and poster board maps, and less dart rifles and flashbangs.
So, the goal was to get back a King and some Gods. That sounded back. What-
Quin spoke up before he'd even managed to think of the question, asking Michael about what -happened- if Akh won. That was the question, even if he wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer. Because game nights, if the BBEG wins, rocks fall and...
”First time… I didn’t have time t’ question it. Life ‘r death situation—so a regular Sunday f’r me. Took a while f’r the shiftin’ t’ be somewhat normal. Still tryin’ t’ adapt t’ life with it. Noel, adapted fast. Us havin’ spent a few weeks as each other took a lot of the weird out of me lookin’ like her.” Ranger said then amended as an afterthought, ”If y' meet a blonde woman named Rhia an’ she has a manic look in her eye… Get away.”
Ranger raised an eyebrow at will saying ‘we’. Seemed he was rolling with what was happening. Not just trying to distance himself and bail from the situation.
”Yeah. Only, if y’ go lookin’ f’r a desiccated woman wrapped in bandages, y’ won’t find her. She was turned t’ stone ‘n’ back. Hasn’t aged a day since five-thousand years ago.” Ranger slowed the truck and navigated around a car crash in an intersection, ”She’s good at recruitin’. Maybe she promised the villains somethin’, maybe she found the people that want t’ tear society down an’ gave them the chance. If we run int’ animated stone monsters. That’s her work.”
It was Quin who asked the big question. What if she managed to do what she’s trying to do.
Ranger took a breath and considered her answer. ”Timey-whimey—stuff. Akh is somehow able t’ tell who she needs t’ use the ankh on. It ‘ascends’ a mortal t’ ‘godhood’.” Ranger made air quotes, ”She’s looki’ f’r someone she can give time power to. Use them t’ bring forward her gods. She accomplishes this… We get t’ find learn what Egyptian myth was based on. An’ her pharaoh t’ lead them. It could be this, but more global. The good news is—if she succeeds—there’s a target. One we’ll know where it is. We have enough troubleshooters here t’ respond.” Ranger used a word she usually used to refer to herself as if she sees trouble, she shoots it. However, she wasn’t going to sit there and think she could one-woman army against Akh and her ancient compatriots. No, the X-men and Haven and SUPER had enough heavy hitters to shake the foundation of the pyramids.

We?
Will had sure done a bit of a 180 degree turn from, ‘I don’t tell anyone I have powers’ to ‘Let’s take on a mummy.’ Give some folks a taste of heroics and they couldn’t get enough, she supposed.
Then again, maybe he meant a more general ‘we’ like, ‘we, the citizens of New York.’
Then Will asked if either she or Michael knew any magic and Quin actually laughed, ”You have seen the full range and extent of everything I can do.” she answered truthfully, ”I don’t think I could lift more than a lego right now without passing out.”
Pausing for a moment, she frowned a bit, ”And I’m not involved in any of this.” she added, gesturing vaguely at the truck around them, ”Michael taught a self-defense class in my building and I went to it, that’s all.” she hoped she hadn’t misrepresented herself in some way as someone who had any clue what was going on with anything on Michael’s level.
They weren’t looking for a mummy though, the woman apparently hadn’t aged a day in 5000 years. Obviously Akh had bigger fish to fry, but the absolutely whiplash of waking up in modern day New York had to have been intense…and she’d immediately started recruiting people to her cause.
Michael continued though. This woman wanted to find a person to give time powers to? A person who could bring living gods forward in time?
There was a point that everything became too much and Quin figured that she’d just reached it. ”Oh…is that all…” she said a bit weakly.
Michael seemed confident there were enough heavy hitters in New York to head off any issues and the way that he said ‘troubleshooters’ indicated that the language was far more literal than figurative.
”So what I’m hearing is not to leave the Haven building for the next week….” That was fine, if her plans worked out like she was hoping she wouldn’t even be done showering and sleeping by then and by the time she woke up everything would be fine.
Michael and Quin chatted while Will watched out the fancy, bullet-stopping windows of the truck, grateful for the relative feeling of security the behemoth provided even while they continued talking about the threats and trouble that existed outside the armored vehicle. Threats and troubles that sounded like they wouldn't be slowed too much by the thickness of any sort of armor. At least if magic worked the way it did in fantasy books and tabletop games and movies.
Time shenanigans. And gods. And magic. And stone monsters. Golems? Sphinxes? (Probably not actually THE Sphinx though. Maybe.) But no bandaged wrapped, desiccated corpse walking around, but just... a woman. Suppose Michael -had- only said ancient Egyptian, not mummy, but c'mon, what else was he supposed to think? Probably would have made it harder to recruit people if you looked like the human equivalent of a raisin, but, he wasn't about to rule out that magic could accomplish, considering it had apparently kept someone alive for 5000 years.
And her recruiting methods? Promises of power maybe? Or a chance at tearing down society? Sure, Will could admit in seeing a certain appeal to parts of all of that, but... There were ways to make changes that didn't throw -everyone- under the bus. And if someone's offering a gift like that, you should be wary about what's up their sleeve. Regardless, it seemed like Michael had plans for even if Akh's plan ultimately succeeded, evidently having a few 'troubleshooters' to call on if that happened. Will did have to wonder who that'd be, and felt more than a twist of anxiety at the stakes of everything as Michael said that if Akh got her way, it could be this, but global.
"So... hoping to head her off at the pass, but you've got a plan if it all goes south?" Will asked, trying to keep up with the general logistics of everything. Clearly Michael was out here doing the general hero thing... hence their current situation and the fight with Knightstick, but Will wasn't clear if cleaning up trouble was Michael's primary goal, or if they were trying to track down Akh, presuming they had any way of finding the Sorceress. Though, presumably, if they covered enough ground and kicked enough butt, the finding would happen naturally.
As far as the "we" in Will's mind at the moment, it was the three of them current in the Fordasaurus, for as long as it took them to get wherever 'safe' was in a situation like that. Which, as Michael continued to drive through the streets, was starting to sound like fewer and fewer places... if any, should Akh 'win'.
"Yeah, thinkin' I'll be locking my doors and hiding under my bed once I get home." Will joked, agreeing with Quin's general statement.
Quin felt the need to clarify the nature of how she knew Ranger. Which was fair. They had known each other in their past lives and Ranger had a little more memory of them knowing each other than Quin did, but those were almost different people. Especially Quin. Ranger had been set back to the beginning of where he was in life, Quin had been set back to before she had even become a cop.
Instead of getting into the intricacies of de-aging, Ranger let it go. She was occupied by gaging the safest route based on the series of various radio chatters. It sounded like cutting through Central Park was the best route so she turned into the park as she drove along the North end.
Will summed up the idea, working to head off Akh but planning a backup.
”No plan survives first contact with the enemy, and the enemy makes plans.” Ranger said by way of confirming what Will said. ”I’m part of a team workin;’ t’ try an’ contain the chaos while also huntin’ Akh. Odds are, the mystics I’m workin’ with have a better chance at findin’ her than me. If we fail, I’ve got men gettin’ resources t’gether t’ hit back.”
Blac-Tac thrived on chaos. Rather, Alpha Team at Blac-Tac thrived on chaos. While the regular security were helping secure sites across the city, alpha team was getting everything together to mobilize against Akh once she had been located. Aircraft, materiel, armor, and more. Owning a PMC had its uses.
Both Quin and Will expressed that they would be locking down for a week to let it all blow over. Ranger couldn’t blame them.
”Will, my advice is hole up at Haven f’r now. It an’ the mansion are likely the safest places right now. I cain take y’ home after I drop Quin off if y’ want though.” Ranger said, offering his two cents

The plan seemed more like loose guidelines than an actual plan of any kind, but Quin supposed that Michael could have been holding things back. It would have been smart to handle it that way considering the fact that she was talking to two people who weren’t involved in the operation in any way, shape, or form.
Still, Michael was trying to contain the chaos and look for Akh at the same time? Suddenly the redhead felt a bit guilty for pulling her away from the more important business at hand. Still…she’d needed to get home one way or another and this was the safest and fastest way.
Michael also mentioned that she was working with some Mystics to hunt the Mystic and that probably made sense.
Will had the same idea as Quin and she was about to compliment him on his good sense when Michael went and suggested that Will hole up at Haven. Quin had had the thought several times that it was likely the most secure place in the city and it wasn’t the worst idea if someone actually wanted to be safe.
”She’s probably right…” Quin said, glancing over at Will, ”They’ve got all sorts of places for people to stay.” It was true, ”I’m sure Michael easily has the pull to get you a spot at least until the worst of this blows over.”
Will nodded as Michael explained in brief what their part in taking down Akh was, stating that plans were the first things that failed on contact with the opponent, and that their enemy made plans. Though, Will thought, that was the sort of sword that cut both ways, wasn't it?
So Michael was mostly riding around putting boots to butts to try and quell some of the chaos, which either hoping to run across signs of Akh, or, with the radio and her mystic allies, be ready to move on any sort of info that came in that pertained to the Sorceress. So there were mutants and mystics both that worked with SUPER? Guess that made sense if they had to deal with the worst sorts of preternatural type of things... current events included, but it was still wild to realize how much was going on right under his nose.
Will was surprised to hear the word Haven come up again, he'd been curious about it when Quin mentioned it offhandedly, about not leaving it for a week when he'd generally agreed with the idea, but Michael mentioned it now too, stating that Will would probably be best served by staying there, at least if safety was his main concern. Will wasn't quite sure how to answer to that one. He'd be lying if he answered that he wasn't concerned about staying safe in all of this. Even if Akh and everything that he'd just been told about weren't a factor, the day had been insane, and it was entirely possible his neighbourhood looked just like the cafe did.
On the other hand, getting dragged into even more strangeness, a new place, more secure than anywhere in the city? Some place... maybe? Associated with SUPER, or at least with Michael... A huge part of Will just wanted to pretend like the day hadn't happened. Go back to -his- apartment, that was tidy and familiar and normal...
Quin spoke up, supporting Michael's statement, that she was probably right, that Haven would be the safe choice. They there were places for him to stay, and that they could get him a place in... Ah well, normal was out the reinforced ALON window at this point, wasn't it?
"Ah. Yeah. Probably the smart thing right?" Will accepted the offer with a grateful smile to Quin, following up with a little chuckle, throwing a comment Michael's way as well. "Besides, be rude of you to make two stops with your busy schedule." Will joked, trying to make an excuse to take the assistance offered. It did make sense to accept the help, even if it was strange on top of strange.
Quin agreed with Ranger about Will staying at Haven. When she mentioned Ranger being able to get Will a spot Ranger chimed in,
”Have clout–will travel.” Ranger said in agreement and in reference to a show from the late ‘50s - early ‘60s. Have Gun – Will Travel. Ranger had considered naming his company Paladin as a reference to the main character.
Will agreed to go to Haven, saving Ranger from having to make two stops. Ranger smiled at the joke. In response Ranger flicked a switch on the radio, changing it over to the Blac-Tac channel.
”Haven-actual this is Howdy. RTB with two on board. Prepare room for one.” Ranger said with an uncharacteristically unaccented voice
“Roger, Howdy. We’re clear and ready to receive. Short on the little chocolates but we’ll make do.”
”Copy that.” Ranger returned the radio and then addressed Will, ”Y’ got a room. Sounds like normal amenities’ll be tight.” Ranger’s accent back in all its glory.
