The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee liked her cheesecake. That was good, it would have been a major disappointment if they’d have stumbled over the finish line of dinner with a subpar dessert. ”That’s a relief.” he said with a smile.
Tarin had been honest when he’d said that the peach pie was really good, and while he ate, Tarin looked back out at the skyline. It really was awesome to see it all at night.
While they were finishing up, the waiter returned and asked if they were going to want anything else and Tarin shook his head, ”Just the check” and the waiter went off to get it.
Tarin kept on working on his quickly disappearing pie and looked back at Lee, ”Do I get to know where you’re thinking or is that a surprise?”

Lee tried to savour her dessert, but it disappeared so much more quickly than she wanted it to. It really was extremely good.
Their waiter really did seem to be eager to get them out of there at this point as he returned quite quickly to see if there was anything else that they wanted. And as he went off to grab the cheque, Tarin asked if she was going to share some of the places with him or if it was a surprise.
Lee shrugged as she put the last bite of her cheesecake in her mouth. "It really depends on how far we want to walk," Lee said once she had finished eating. "But Bethesda Terrace is wonderful all lit up."
It really didn't take too long for them to finish up at the restaurant and get on their way. And as they entered Central Park hand in hand a short time later, Lee couldn't help but think how much different and how much nicer it was than when she normally came here at night.

The waiter brought back the check, they finished their desserts, and then it was time to go.
Tarin was a little sad to leave the rooftop, but he knew they’d be back sometime soon.
The elevator ride down was every bit as uneventful as the ride up owing to the fact that Tarin once again kept his back to the doors and simply pretended that they weren’t in an elevator, choosing instead to watch the view.
Soon enough he and Lee had exited the building and were making their way towards the park. Tarin honestly couldn’t remember the last time he’d been in the park at night except for… Nope. He wasn’t going to go there. Not tonight.
Soon enough he and Lee were making their way into the Park.
It was kind of wild how different everything seemed simply because it was night. The globe lights were glowing softly, providing just enough light to see and the wide path was lined on both sides by benches just like it was during the day. It was softer now though and far less crowded.
”It really is beautiful here at night.” Tarin said, ”It must be peaceful when it’s even later.”

Lee nodded as she looked over and up at Tarin as they walked. "It really is," Lee said softly. And she was far more comfortable here, now that she had turned her siphoning back on and there were far fewer people than had been on the sidewalks between the restaurant and the park.
"Most of the time, there are just the occasional other runner or someone walking that I come across," Lee continued to describe what it was like when she came running. "Sometimes, I'll follow the smaller paths in the middle of the park, but that takes more thought so I don't just end up going in the same little circles. So most of the time I end up just taking the path around the edge of the park."
"And since there's so many fewer people around then," Lee continued as she stepped slightly closer to Tarin, resting her head on his shoulder as they walked. "I'm sometimes able to just zone out or get lost in my music, which definitely helps the time go faster."

It was interesting again how much quieter it seemed in The Park than it was in the city proper. Even at night when most places were closed the streets and sidewalks carried cars and people to and fro and the noises that came with them never really stopped.
Lee agreed it was beautiful there and Tarin had to be impressed that even with as much time as she’d spent there and the things that she’d seen there, she felt that way.
As she spoke about what it was like on her runs, Lee moved closer and leaned her head on his shoulder and Tarin sighed a happy little sigh. Lee’s runs were a simple reality of their lives, something she needed to do in order to make it easier when she had too much energy to sleep. Tarin was glad it was something she’d figured out, a coping mechanism of sorts, because she had explained what happened if she couldn’t burn off that energy and it sounded absolutely awful.
It had always seemed sad to Tarin that Lee had to run on her own, or stay up on her own, but with as pretty as it was here…maybe it wasn’t so bad. Especially if she was able to listen to music while she ran. A thought occurred to Tarin then and he looked over a bit as they walked.
”What do you listen to when you run? Specific things or do you just stream whatever comes on?” He was supposed to be learning more about music, maybe this was a starting place.

This was rather peaceful, Lee thought as they walked along the path further into the park. It was normally fairly peaceful when she came here for her nighttime runs, but simply walking, with Tarin, was something else entirely.
He wanted to know what she listened to as she ran? Lee straightened up so she could look up at Tarin again. "That depends on what I'm in the mood to listen to," Lee said with a bit of a shrug. "Sometimes I'll listen to one of my playlists; songs from when I was a kid, or some heavier, newer music. If I'm having trouble getting into the run, I have a playlist that has bouncier, faster songs. That one has a lot of pop punk songs on it.
"Rarely, if I have something I really need to think about," Lee continued thoughtfully. "I'll listen to instrumental music, soundtracks or just instrumental covers. The lack of words helps me focus."
Lee then looked up at Tarin again a little sheepishly. "That was probably more than you were asking, wasn't it?"

Music was important to Lee, she could sing and she could play multiple instruments. Even though he was slowly starting to figure out a few things on the guitar, it never ceased to amaze him that Lee could seemingly pull a song out of thin air and play while she sang it.
It made sense why the music mattered so much though. Had she learned to play on those long nights when she couldn’t sleep? It would have been something for her to do with her time. Tarin decided he’d have to ask sometime, but now Lee was talking about what she listened to and when.
Lee listened to music based on what she needed out of the run. It was absolutely fascinating to hear her talk about what the different genres did and when she felt she needed them. Bouncier music for motivation, instrumentals when she needed to think, old music for nostalgia…
Lee spoke and Tarin shook his head, ”No, I love it.” he said, ”I can also see why you were so flabbergasted when I said that I just use pace playlists to run.” Music was something much deeper to Lee.
”I guess I just never learned to connect with it like that.” It wasn’t surprising, he hadn’t learned to connect with much of anything for a really long time. ”I liked what they were playing up in the restaurant though…” but maybe that just had to do with the company.

Once she had finished speaking, Lee ducked her head slightly before looking forward again.
"No, I love it.”
Only for her eyes to shoot up to Tarin again. "You love it?" Lee asked, a little surprised by that. No one liked when she really got into talking about music; she 'took it too seriously', 'went too deep' and 'thought too much' about it.
But Tarin loved it? Lee really hoped he meant that, because saying that was giving her permission to talk about music a lot more.
Lee nodded when Tarin told her he'd liked what they were playing at the restaurant. "That was like what I listen to when I need to think," Lee told him. "Instrumental covers of mostly current songs, though there were a couple of older classics. So we have a starting place," Lee smiled up at Tarin. This was good. They had a starting place now to really start introducing Tarin to music and seeing what he liked.
He'd also said he hadn't ever connected with music, which to Lee was just strange. She couldn't imagine going through so much of your life without connecting to music in some way.
"I think I always have," Lee said after a few moments. "Connected with music. I was taking piano lessons as far back as I can remember. My parents said that they'd put me in lessons as soon as I was old enough because apparently the first couple years they had me in dance lessons, I was more interested in trying to make noise with the piano than dancing."

Lee seemed surprised that Tarin had said he loved hearing what she thought about music, ”Well…yeah.” he said carefully, ”It’s so…different from what I know, and it helps me understand.”
Lee compared what the band had been playing at the restaurant to the music that she used to think. Tarin thought that made sense, he could be pretty introspective sometimes and being able to think while listening would have its strong points. It really was a starting point too.
Lee’s silence after Tarin said he hadn’t really learned to connect with music told him that she had a hard time understanding. Of course she did, Lee was someone who felt things deeply. Music enhanced what she was feeling. Tarin, on the other hand, had been carefully schooled to avoid the types of things that evoked emotional responses and to crush them when they did happen. He didn’t bring it up though, Lee hated hearing about all of that.
She spoke again then, talking about how young she’d been when she’d started to show her interest in music. As had happened once before when Lee mentioned her childhood dance classes Tarin couldn’t help but picture and even tinier little Lee stretching up to bang the keys on a piano. It was adorable.
”I was too busy being feral when I was a kid to listen to much. Then I left home and, well…” Tarin just shrugged lest he bring down the mood ”What you said really made sense though, I hadn’t ever really approached it that way. I think it might help.”

It wasn't a surprise that what Lee said about music was different from anything Tarin knew. Otherwise, he would have at least a basic idea of what broad genre of music he preferred. Yet, even though he listened to music every time he ran, and he tried to go for a run most days, he still just listened to playlists backed in the pace he was trying to set.
But it also helped him to understand? It sounded like he was simply talking about music, but it felt like he meant a whole lot more.
Lee wasn't sure what that 'more' was, though. Was it understanding about how there were different kinds of music? How music could produce different thoughts and emotions?
Understanding more about what she thought about music?
He had been to 'feral' as a child to really listen to much music, and them…yeah, that made sense. That explained not really listening to music as a child, but what about his entire adult life? That was what really confused Lee about the whole situation because music was literally everywhere in the world.
By this time, they were approaching the first thing Lee had thought she wanted to show Tarin: Bethesda Terrace.
The underneath part was lit up, illuminating the fountain from behind and reflecting in the water.
Stopping them a distance away, Lee just stood and took in the sight for a few moments in silence. "I always think that the bottom part of the terrace looks bigger at night," Lee said quietly after a few moments. "Like it just…keeps going.
"But the terrace, and the fountain were two of the things I wanted to show you. What do you think?"

Lee was still quiet as they walked and Tarin frowned a bit as he tried to think of a way he could explain. Tarin supposed it was an old habit that had died hard when he’d finally gotten away from those people, but he had never been someone who put music on when it was quiet. He’d never done what Lee described and used music as a motivator or to do things. It just kind of faded into the background of whatever he was doing and that was it.
The exceptions had been when he’d watched Lee play a few times. Tarin had paid rapt attention to the songs and their lyrics then, but it hadn’t really had much to do with the music, had it?
He was going to speak again, to try to explain, but Lee stopped. Lost in his thoughts, Tarin hadn’t really been paying attention to where they’d been going, but when he looked down at Lee to ask why she’d stopped he saw that she was looking ahead and turned his head to follow her gaze.
Oh wow.
Bethesda fountain was a landmark. Everyone in New York and many people beyond would have been able to name it in a picture, and Tarin had seen it numerous times on runs or walks through the park.
Never like this though. The fountain was in its usual spot in front of the terrace, but the lighting from the underside of the terrace backlit the fountain and its angel and it was almost hauntingly beautiful. Lee spoke and Tarin changed his focus to the terrace and the lit portion underneath and nodded, it really did look like the arches disappeared into slightly golden light. Where they were standing the rest of the city loomed above the terrace and its fountain, but the area somehow seemed secluded and a little ethereal.
What did he think? ”No wonder you like to run out here.” Tarin said softly, letting go of Lee’s hand to slip his arm around her waist and pull her a little closer into his side for a moment, ”I don’t think I’ve ever seen it like this.” There wasn’t a whole lot else to say, ”It’s really beautiful.”

Tarin was quiet as they approached the fountain. And as she brought them to a stop. But then he looked in the direction that she was looking.
And with that one look, Tarin realized exactly why she had brought him there.
Smiling as she felt Tarin release her hand and wrap his arm around her waist, Lee leaned against him slightly.
"It's not like this all night," Lee said softly as she gazed across the fountain toward the lit terrace. "They turn the lights off overnight. I guess to discourage people from being in the park? But when they are on, it's almost breathtaking."
Lee just stood there in silence with Tarin, her head on his shoulder. "If you can actually catch it when the lights are on and there's a mist or fog hanging over the fountain…" Lee whispered after a few moments. "It's hauntingly beautiful."
Tarin could understand why she liked to run out here? It was nice, but most of these sights she only managed to catch on her first lap, if at all. "It's peaceful," Lee replied. "That's the main reason. You don't find that in the city very often."

Tarin had never understood the logic of turning off lights to discourage people from doing nefarious things in public spaces. Yes, by rote they indicated that the space was closed, but it was far easier for things to go down in a dark space than it was in a place where everything was brightly lit. That was bureaucracy though, the city also probably saved an infinitesimal amount of money by not powering the lights in the overnight hours.
Lee called the view breathtaking and Tarin nodded at the apt description. He’d definitely been a bit stunned when Lee had stopped them and he’d first looked up, and now that he really looked, it just seemed to get better. Lee painted a verbal picture of what it all looked like if there was mist and Tarin had to agree, the mist would make it hauntingly beautiful.
It was also peaceful here, and Lee was right. There were very few places in the city that could be considered peaceful. ”You really don’t…” he said. It made sense that Lee would want peace and quiet. Having to depend on proximity to people so much would have to get tedious. Being able to be away from it all would be nice, and rare in a place like New York.
”I’m really glad you showed me this.” Tarin said, thinking he was really glad about a lot of things. ”It’s like we’re collecting views tonight.”

Lee just stood there smiling slightly, leaning against Tarin. He understood what she meant about it being peaceful, she was sure. He had lived in one New York or another longer than she had, and with coming from the Texas countryside as he had, New York would have been a huge change all those years ago. In many ways.
Lee smiled wider when Tarin thanked her for showing him this as she turned to look up at him. "You're welcome," she said. "If I had thought about it, I would have brought you here much sooner."
Collecting views? That was certainly one way to think about it. But to that end…
"Did you want to stay here for a while, or keep going?"

In all honesty, Tarin was kind of glad that Lee hadn’t thought to bring him here sooner. He didn’t know for sure, but Tarin had a sneaking suspicion that coming here at night would have been difficult for him for a while. Seeing the park like this though, with Lee…it couldn’t possibly be bad.
They didn’t go closer to the terrace, there wasn’t much reason to when they‘d both seen it regularly during the day, but then Lee was asking if he wanted to stay where they were or if he wanted to move on to something else.
”There’s more?” he said, ”If you mean go home, I’d like to stay a while longer, but if you’ve got more to show me…I’d like to see.”
