The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee shook her head when Tarin apologize. ”It’s ok,” Lee said as she smiled over at him. ”This is worth the wait.”
Sitting there across from Tarin, Lee was still taking in the restaurant and the view when she saw Tarin pick up the menu out of the corner of her eye. Right, she should probably pick something to eat; she could look around and at the view more while they were waiting for their food.
Picking up her own menu, Lee started looking it over when she heard Tarin speaking again. ”I’m sure I would have liked anywhere you picked, but this was a really good choice,” she told him, the happy smile not seeming like it would be going anywhere anytime soon. ”But if the food is anywhere close to as good as everything else here, we’ll have to come back.”
Lee was just turning back to her menu when suddenly her siphoning stopped. Instantly, Lee tensed, sitting up straighter in her chair as she started to look around the restaurant again.

Well, at least it had been worth the wait, Tarin decided as Lee just kept right on smiling.
Realizing he’d set his menu down without really looking at it, Tarin picked it back up and grinned again when Lee pointed out that he’d done a good job with the restaurant choice.
He hoped that the food was good, even if it wasn’t spectacular though, the ambience of the place was more than enough to make up for it. The reviews had been good though, outside of a the few that had seemed to be from people who just hated life.
Tarin was just looking up to ask Lee about the drink menu when she tensed in her chair across the table and started looking around the restaurant like she expected to find someone or something. The happy smile that had seemed glued to her face was gone now and Tarin’s brows drew together in with concern as he looked across the table.
”Lee?” he said, leaning slightly forward and glancing around to try and figure out what had alarmed her, ”What’s wrong?”

”Lee? What’s wrong?”
Just as suddenly as it had turned off, Lee was suddenly able to feel Tarin sitting across the table as well as everyone else in the restaurant.
Letting out a breath that she hadn’t even known she was hiding, Lee turned back to Tarin. ”Sorry. It’s…” Lee started, giving him a small, apologetic smile. ”I was startled. Suddenly I wasn’t siphoning.”
Lee shook her head and smiled wider at Tarin, though it wasn’t as easy and carefree of a smile as it had been a minute earlier. ”It’s fine, I was just shocked, but I am again, they moved away, whoever they are.”
Lee didn’t want that to ruin the evening, it really wasn’t anything, it had just been the sudden surprise more than anything. Lee glanced down at her menu before looking up at Tarin again. ”Do you know what you’re getting?”

Something was wrong. It was written all over Lee’s face, and suddenly she let out her breath like she’d been holding it. It was almost a mirror of what he’d done when he’d been in the elevator earlier.
Tarin was still looking around to try and figure out what had happened when Lee spoke. All of a sudden she hadn’t been siphoning? Tarin looked at her in confusion for a moment, then his eyes widened a bit in surprise and he looked around. Lee had explained at one point how jarring it was for her to be around an adapted...that had to be what had happened, right? If she’d shut it off on her own she wouldn’t have been surprised.
Lee was smiling again, but Tarin could tell that she was still a little uncomfortable as she tried to reassure him that she’d just been surprised. Whoever it was had moved away she said. Tarin nodded, ”Okay, good.” he said.
Lee asked if he knew what he was going to get, but Tarin was looking out into the restaurant, trying to figure out who was moving around to a point that they could have gotten close enough to have an effect on Lee and then moved away. There weren’t a lot of people who were all that close, they’d been the most recent diners to sit down…
What had Lee said again? Did he know what he was getting?
”Uh….” he said, picking up the menu and looking at it again, ”I was thinking maybe the salmon? That or the pork chops.” he said.

Tarin started looking around the restaurant when she told him what had happened. Even when she was looking at the menu and had asked what Tarin was thinking of getting, he was still looking around the restaurant.
And not paying attention to her much, Lee noticed as it took a few moments for him to look back at the menu and answer. ”Oh, yeah, the salmon does look good,” Lee agreed after a quick lance down. ”So does the pot roast, though. I’m not sure.”
As she looked across to Tarin again, Lee saw that he had started looking around the restaurant again. ”Tarin, there’s no way to know who it was,” Lee pointed out quietly. ”There’s no way to tell who is adapted without them being close enough to stop our powers. And they may not even be in the restaurant for us to be able to see.”

Tarin nodded when Lee described what she was thinking about getting. He’d noticed the pot roast too, but had been more drawn to the things he’d mentioned.
Tarin didn’t know what he was planning to do if he figured out who the adapted was, it wasn’t like they could control what they were doing… he just thought that maybe if he could figure out who it was, Lee wouldn’t be so startled. He’d hardly noticed that he was looking again until Lee said his name.
Attention snapping back to Lee, Tarin frowned thoughtfully for a moment. He hated not being able to help, but the night was going far too well to spoil over something they couldn’t control.
”Sorry…I just…I don’t know what I thought.” he said, looking back down at the menu for a moment. ”I do think I’ll go with the salmon.”
The waiter chose that moment to approach and ask if they wanted anything to drink.
They hadn’t even looked at that menu. ”I think I need another minute to look. Can I get some water though?”

Lee gave Tarin a small smile when he apologized. He was always trying to make things easier for her with her powers. Lee could only imagine that Tarin had been hoping, somehow, to have been able to see who the adapted was so he could somehow manage to keep them from coming close enough for Lee to be in their field.
A smile, but also a slight shake of her head. But before she was able to say anything, their server stepped up to their table and asked about drinks. Tarin had said something about the cocktails here being good, yet they hadn’t even looked at the drink menu yet. ”Same, some water please?”
Once the server walked away, Lee turned to look at Tarin again. ”Like I said, they might not be in the restaurant,” Lee repeated, her voice lower than it had been speaking to the server. Then she grabbed the drink menu to glance over as she continued speaking. ”The two floors below us must have hallways in this area. The adapted could have been walking in one of them and be long gone now.”

The waiter went to go get their water and Tarin looked at the cocktail menu and tried to figure out what on Earth he could order to drink.
The menu was extensive, and Tarin was sure that it was really good, but his experience with drinking things other than beer was incredibly limited and consisted mostly of the cheap crap that 20 somethings drank with the sole purpose of getting blackout drunk at a house party. It hadn’t taken Tarin long to figure out that that particular scene wasn’t for him, nor was how difficult it got to keep the spirits away when he was that drunk.
So. When Lee spoke about the adapted again he set the drink menu down and looked at Lee, tilting his head slightly as she explained that whoever they were, they didn’t even need to be on the same floor.
”I…didn’t know it worked like that.” Tarin said, ”I just thought maybe I could help…” he said.
Looking down at the menu again for a moment Tarin sighed a bit and looked back at Lee,”I have no idea what to get.” he admitted sheepishly.

Lee had thought that Tarin had just been trying to help, but now Lee almost felt bad. ”Well, I don’t know if it does,” Lee admitted as she looked up at Tarin. ”But my powers work in all directions. It just…seems like it would make sense?”
Turning back to the cocktail menu, Lee was trying to decide what to get when she heard Tarin speak again. Like on their first date, Tarin looked absolutely lost about what to get to drink. Lee, at least, had worked at the bar for years, even if all she did behind the bar ever was crack open beer bottles.
”I’m not sure either,” Lee admitted, reaching her hand across the table for Tarin’s. ”Most of the cocktails look to be either sweet or bitter. And it looks like there’s quite a few craft beer options. What are you in the mood to try?”

Lee seemed to be doing better now, and what she said really did make sense. Of course an adapted’s powers would work that way. Walls and floors and things like that weren’t a barrier for his powers either, at least as far as Tarin knew. Well, hopefully it was over and done with now and they could enjoy the rest of the night.
Lee reached across the table and Tarin smiled and did the same, holding her hand as they tried to figure out what on Earth to drink.
”I guess we can put this right under music on the list of things I need to learn more about.” he joked, then sighed a little. ”I guess I’ll just get a beer and we’ll have to come back again another time so that I can try out the other stuff.” That was definitely a win-win.
The waiter came back with their waters and asked again if they were interested in anything besides water and Tarin ordered one of the craft lagers that was on the menu. He at least knew that he liked that.
Lee made her order and the waiter left again to get the drinks. Tarin had already decided what he was going to eat so that left him free to just look at Lee across the table for a few moments. A very worthy pastime.

Tarin reached his hand out to meet hers, and Lee smiled. This was more like it. Just the two of them enjoying each other’s company. Not stressing or worrying.
Well, not worrying about anything more serious than what to drink. Lee shrugged as she squeezed Tarin’s hand. ”Music is a necessity that you learn more about it,” Lee informed Tarin. ”But this…You know you like beer, so you can just continue ordering beers. Or we can try something new next time we're here.”
Honestly, Lee didn't care whether Tarin ever tried other kinds of drinks or simply stuck with beer. Might it be fun to try other things? Sure. Would it be worth stressing about? Definitely not.
Their waters were delivered just then and Tarin did order a beer. Glancing down at the menu one more time, Lee decided on a blueberry stout that sounded interesting.
Setting the menu to the side, Lee looked up at Tarin again with a smile.
Which had a blush soon added to it when Tarin spoke. ”You’re not even looking at the view, Tarin,” she said softly.

Lee was emphatic that Tarin learn more about music and he grinned at her across the table, ”You’re the expert there.” he said, ”Maybe that’s what we should do next time we don’t have any plans and don’t know how to spend our time.” Rhey were generally able to figure out something to do, but lately it hasn’t been music.
Lee did have a point. It wasn’t really necessary to find out about the other kind of drinks that were available, there was absolutely nothing wrong with beer.
The drinks were ordered now and Lee had noticed that Tarin hasn’t been looking out at the skyline when he’d spoke. It wasn’t particularly bright up there, but Tarin knew Lee was blushing and he shrugged a little bit, ”I stand by my claim.” he said.
The waiter must have immediately gone to fetch the drinks because they were back now and after they dropped off the beers they were asking if Tarin and Lee were ready to order.
”I’ll have the maple glazed salmon. Tarin said. One of the nice things about nice restaurants was that you generally didn’t have to pick out sides. The meals were a whole production on their own.

Lee had told Tarin that she needed to teach him about music as he didn't even know what kind of music he liked. He had simply put songs with a specific beat per minute into a playlist for running.
Tarin suggested that they do that, teach him about music the next time they weren't sure what to do with their evening. And though there were still plenty of Mets games, with Kevin back home it likely would be a more frequent occurrence that they had no plans. ”I’m sure that we can manage that.”
Lee blushed darker when confirmed he'd meant what he said. ”If you just wanted to look at me, we could have stayed home, you know,” Lee pointed out. Even though if they had done that, she would never have seen Tarin in that suit, and that would have been horrible.
She was still blushing and looking at Tarin when the server came over to take their dinner order.
And Tarin did in fact go for the salmon. Which meant that if she really wanted, Lee could still try the salmon without ordering it herself.
”I’ll have the pot roast,” Lee said, cutting off sharply as she tensed again. ”Please,” she finally added.

Music listening lessons were a go. Tarin might have known a little more than he had let on about music, but he really hadn’t exaggerated. Besides, it was something else that he and Lee could do together.
Oh, she was blushing, and Tarin couldn’t help but smirk just slightly as she spoke. ”One of my favorite things to do, but variety is the spice of life, right?” he said.
The waiter was there and taking their orders and Lee got that roast she’d mentioned before…but not before that shock of tension went through her again. Immediately this time, Tarin’s eyes were scanning the rooftop. In the eating area there were only a few people moving around at the moment. Waiters, servers, and another couple who had just gotten there. Surely they weren’t unlucky enough that two adapteds had chosen to eat here on the same night when he and Lee hadn’t previously ran into a single one in the whole time they’d been together.
So that left the restaurant staff or someone on another floor. The waiter was gone now and Tarin frowned across the table.
”You sure you’re going to be okay? We can always come back another night?”

Looking at her was one of Tarin’s favourite things to do? Lee didn’t even think about the fact that that might have sounded weird to someone else. Thankfully, Lee didn’t blush any darker when she heard his words. Unfortunately, the blush also wasn’t going anywhere.
Did Tarin really look at her at home that much more than she realized? It was possible, she couldn’t exactly see what he was doing or what he was looking at when they were curled up together on the couch.
But when their orders had been taken, Lee looked across the table and saw Tarin frowning at her. He didn’t miss a thing, did he?
Lee shook her head. ”No, I’ll be fine,” she assured him even though she was still feeling off because she hadn’t started siphoning again. ”You went and planned all of this, I don’t want to ruin the night. It’s just, the worst part is how sudden it is. If I had some warning, it might not be so bad.”
Well, at least that was the worst part in this situation. It’s not like an adapted could drag her off from the restaurant here without a trace with Tarin there and the cameras that had to be scattered throughout the building.
