The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tarin nodded when Lee confirmed that she was ready to head home. Lee had noticed too that it seemed like no matter where the conversation drifted, it kept coming back to things people should have known, or things they didn’t really need to know.
Lee spoke again, and Tarin grinned down at her warmly. Yes. There absolutely had been something they had wanted to do. Very much.
They were holding hands and walking down the street and it was still nagging at Tarin in the back of his mind. ”It’s the willful ignorance.” Tarin said when they’d walked a little ways. ”I’m sorry if I made things worse. I just…feel like…I don’t know. They should know better.”

Lee sighed and nodded as she heard Tarin speaking. There was so much that Lee had thought that Rachel knew, that she understood that she just…didn’t. Things that even after years of living together that she hadn’t even thought about.
”I can kind of understand Robert,” Lee said after a few moments. ”He’s always been a bit of an ass. But Rachel…” Lee just shook her head again.
Might what was said that night make things worse? It was possible, but at that moment Lee really didn't care. ”Honestly, a lot of the stuff I had just thought that was what my life was going to be, like my mornings, until you. Even though I've gotten past a lot of the hangups I've had about my powers, obviously the early years of having them are still messing up what I think about what I can have…”

Honestly, Robert made a lot more sense than Rachel did. Robert was wrong, misguided, but he had at least convinced himself that he was being helpful, protective. Rachel had been there, had seen…and had chosen to be ignorant. Had chosen to see what she had wanted to see.
Lee was speaking again and it was almost unbelievable to Tarin that after everything she had seen, everything she had experienced, and everything she knew…
She hadn’t known until him? How unbelievable was that?
”You can have anything.” Tarin said as they walked. ”You don’t have to make yourself smaller for other peoples’ sake.”

She could have anything, Tarin said. And as she looked up at him with a small smile, Lee knew from his tone that he fully believed it. He wasn't just saying it.
”Easier said than done,” Lee finally said quietly as she leaned her head against Tarin's shoulder as they walked. ”After so many years of hiding what my powers do…people used to be able to tell something was ‘wrong ‘ if I was around for too long. Because they would be far more tired than they should have been.
“People would keep their distance once they found out what I did,” Lee continued, looking ahead, her head still on Tarin's shoulder as they walked. ”Shun me. Kick me out. Didn't matter if they knew me or not. Even all these years later when I have more control, when I know I take less, when I know my powers can be useful and I'm confident with them…even now the thought that people will keep their distance if they know is still peeking out in the back of my mind.”

Tarin liked the way it felt when Lee leaned her head against him while they walked.
It really was easier said than done. Tarin knew that from experience as surely as Lee did. She explained how things had been in the past and how different it was from how things were now.
It was scary.
”I know what you mean.” Tarin sighed as they walked, he had seen the look on Rachel and Matt’s faces when Tony had come up during the conversation at the bar.
Still, what Lee had been through was somehow worse. Having people, then having the proverbial rug pulled out over and over again because of something she couldn’t control. It was no wonder she still struggled.
”Well. I will be here to remind you…” he said, ”And love you, and make sure that the people who should know better, do better.”

Of course Tarin knew what she meant by ‘easier said than done’. He'd hidden not only his powers, but in a lot of ways himself, for so much of his life out of necessity because of SUPER. So much so that after six years of living in this world without the need to hide the same way and with her encouragement and support, Tarin was still having trouble not hiding. Yes, he had made some huge steps in the last few months, but Lee knew it was still hard for him to do.
Hearing him continue to speak, Lee lifted her head to smile at Tarin. ”Thank you,” she said, her smile growing as she looked at him. ”I love you, too.”
Lee then continued walking in silence for a minute, her head slowly coming to rest against Tarin's shoulder again.
”That’s why I was caught,” Lee finally whispered, breaking the silence. ”When you get down to the underlying reason, that everyone will end up leaving once they knew enough, or had felt my powers long enough, is why I ended up in the camp.”

Lee smiled and Tarin smiled back and as they walked her head came back down on his shoulder. Despite the fact that it had once again been a really weird night, Tarin thought it would have been really hard for him to be happier.
Lee spoke as they walked and Tarin frowned down at her and tried to remember what Lee had said about that time in her life. How she’d ended up in the camp.
”What happened?” he said, with a sinking feeling he was going to really dislike this story.

Lee didn't move other than to close her eyes as they took the next few steps. Train wanted to know what happened, the details of that day. Lee knew he wasn't going to like what he heard, he probably knew that himself, but she would tell him since he wanted to know.
”We were engaged, but a large part of me was still just waiting for him to decide it was too much and leave.” Lee paused, trying to figure out how to word this.
”A client kissed him. I saw it. Immediately, I was convinced he was cheating. After throwing the ring at him, I stormed out.
“But I was angry. Almost got hit by a truck, but got out of the way. Too fast. Then suddenly a stalker was in front of me.”

No. Tarin did not like the story one bit.
Lee explained what had happened, what she’d thought she saw, and how it had led to her being caught.
Tarin could almost picture the scene, but part of him wondered exactly how the hell the other Tarin had been in a position to end up in that situation in the first place. How had a client gotten close enough to kiss him and how had it gone on long enough for Lee to walk into the shop and see it?
He could almost picture Lee standing there, furious …and the rest. She’d gone to the camps thinking that every bad thing she’d ever thought about herself was true. That even though they’d been engaged, she still hadn’t been enough.
They were getting close to the building now, but Tarin pulled them off to the side and stopped, waiting until Lee looked at him.
”It will never be too much. You know that, right?” Tarin said, ”I don’t care what happens, or how much you think you have to worry about anything or everything else. You never have to worry about me.” Tarin had never really seen himself as a “big declarations” kind of guy, but boy did Lee bring it out in him.

They were so close to home when Tarin pulled her off to the side of the sidewalk that Lee was surprised. When she looked up at him Lee bit her lip slightly seeing the look on his face. It was serious, intense.
Then he started speaking. Though her lip stayed between her teeth, Lee was nodding even before he had finished.
”I know I don't need to worry about you,” she told him as she looked up into his eyes. Lee wasn’t even sure if she would be able to put her reasons into words, but she was certain knowing that she didn’t need to worry about Tarin.
Giving Tarin a small smile, she reached her free hand up to his cheek. ”I’m not worried,” she said, her voice softer, before she stretched up to kiss him.
Maybe it was because of what happened after their first run, when she’d fallen asleep; when he’d offered her all the energy she needed to wake up when he didn’t need to, so soon after she had drained him of so much energy. Twice. Maybe it was how she felt so able to tell him everything about what she had been through in her life, including things she hadn’t thought she’d be able to say out loud.
All Lee knew was that, now that she thought about it, she knew she didn’t have to worry about Tarin leaving because of what her powers could or might do to him.

Lee looked up at him in the streetlight and Tarin met her eyes. She spoke and Tarin nodded, ”Good.” he whispered as Lee touched his face and he smiled when she kissed him.
Tarin wrapped his arms around Lee and just held her there for a few moments.

Lee smiled wider when Tarin wrapped his arms around her and just stood looking up at him. Yeah, Lee really could not explain it, because she worried about everything. But with this man here with her, not even in the furthest, darkest corners of her mind did she worry about him leaving.
”That is an excellent idea,” Lee agreed, giving Tarin another quick kiss before reluctantly moving out of his arms.
At that point, it took practically no time at all to walk the rest of the way to their building and through the foyer. Without a word or hesitation, Lee went toward the stairwell with Tarin.
”Oh,” Lee said as she slowed down just before the first step. ”I did not fully think through this outfit…”

Yes. Home. Lee agreed, and and it did not take much to get them to the building and into the lobby.
Once they were there, Lee immediately turned towards the stairwell and Tarin followed her until she slowed down at the bottom of the stairs.
She hadn’t thought through the outfit? Tarin tilted his head a little as he looked at the outfit again from the shoes all the way up and then back down again trying to figure out what the problem was.
That just made Tarin want to get to the apartment faster.

Tarin didn't say anything when she mentioned not thinking this part through for her outfit. He simply looked her over again from her get all the way up. And then all the way down.
The look on his face, especially as his eyes were moving back down to her feet made Lee blush.
But he suggested the elevator. Lee nodded. ”If you're ok with that. It would be a lot easier,” she told him. And a lot faster than her struggling up the stairs in this skirt.

If he was comfortable with it, the elevator would be much easier.
Tarin took a deep breath and nodded and pulled Lee back into the lobby. The place was empty and Tarin pushed the elevator button and watched as it made its way down to them. Was he comfortable with this? Not particularly, but it was only a short ride and it wasn’t like they were going to get stuck, or that they’d be in there for a long time like they had on the ride up the Empire State Building. At some point this had to get better, right?
The doors opened and Tarin only hesitated a second before he pulled Lee inside and watched the doors slide shut as he pushed the button for their floor.
Was the elevator moving slower than usual?
”Say something? Distract me?” he said, feeling foolish but not wanting to mess the night up by freaking out on the short elevator ride home?
