The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”I’d like to see you spar for real sometime.” Tarin said, when Lee pointed out that once upon a time she’d been able to learn things and the people here had sparred with her, “Why did they stop?” He asked, curious.
It appeared that Lee’s shoulder was okay, but she was still having some muscle pain a week out from when she’d been injured…by him…with a chair. Twice.
Tarin couldn’t help the slight scowl that crossed his features at the reminder and he sighed a bit in frustration, “I could maybe help you stretch that out later if you’d like.” He said, the offer sincere, “I’ve got some stuff that would help with the soreness too if it’s not still tender to the touch.” Tiger balm was magic, and one of Tarin’s favorite things about this side of the rift.
Lee suggested that she needed to stop somewhere on the way home and Tarin assumed it was because she’d worked out so hard and needed to get some more energy. It was absolutely fine with him, he had nothing on the agenda for the rest of the day.
”You can never go wrong with ice cream, right?” He said, “Especially after a workout.”

Lee turned to look up at Tarin with a questioning smile. “You would?” she asked, actually a little surprised by that. Then she shrugged slightly. “There are a few around here that will, but they haven’t been coming to this gym too long, and don’t believe the stories from a couple of the trainers about the couple of sparring matches I was able to have with Blaine. So they refuse to put the effort in for it to actually be challenging, and I obviously can’t use much strength on these guys, or I’ll end up hurting them.”
Lee just shrugged. “It is what it is, I guess. Even when they’re willing to spar with me, I guess there’s always rules they feel they need to follow. It’s better than having no one to spar with at least. And I’ve given up asking everyone new if they’ve ever been in a real fight. Apparently, people training to be professional fighters don’t like hearing that question from someone like me.” Lee chuckled a bit at that. It had to look a little ridiculous, she was about a foot shorter than a lot of the guys who trained here. They didn’t have to get so mad and offended about the question, though.
She didn’t miss the scowl that crossed Tarin’s face when she mentioned why her shoulder was sore. “Honestly, it’s not that bad,” she told him, her voice gentle, hopefully reassuring. “I didn’t even feel anything off about it until I threw that one punch. But it might be good to stretch it out, especially after today. If you don’t mind.”
And Tarin suggested ice cream. Lee nodded as she turned to look over at Kevin again. “That does sound good, to be honest. How much longer did you want to wait for him?”

Lee had sparred here with Blaine, the guy that Rachel had insinuated to be the straw that broke the camel’s back where Lee and dating were concerned.
And people told stories about it.
Tarin bet they did. Especially after Lee pointed out that she was actually the one who had to be careful when she sparred so she didn’t hurt her partners. That little tidbit made Tarin smile.
An idea occurred to Tarin then, but he didn’t say anything yet. He’d need to think about it more first. Figure a few things out.
It would also need to wait until Lee was fully healed though... God, it still made him sick that he’d done what he had done. What if Lee hadn’t been as capable as she was? What if he had managed to catch her more off guard?
Tarin knew the answer to that question, a few different times over and he shuddered, trying to push the thoughts away.
Lee agreed to let him help her out with her shoulder and Tarin nodded solemnly. “Anything to help.”
Lee asked how long Tarin wanted to wait around for Kevin and Tarin turned to see the kid, happy as a clam, wailing away at a bag.
“I’m in no rush.” Tarin said, “Are you doing alright? You look a bit worn out.”

Tarin smiled when mentioned how she normally had to hold back when she did spar. But he didn't say or ask anything else about it, so Lee simply raised a questioning eyebrow at him.
Which disappeared when Lee saw his expression. Lee knew the look on his face now, knew what he was thinking.. “Really, Tarin,” she said in a gentle whisper. “I'm fine. I can barely feel anything from my back now.”
Tarin was in no rush to leave. Lee nodded, that was probably a good thing. Not only was Kevin able to generate his own energy, but an earlier night to bed for him would be a good Idea.
“Are you doing alright? You look a bit worn out.”
Lee glanced over at Tarin again at this, nodding after a moment. “Yeah, I'm alright,” Lee said, looking up at Tarin again. “I mean, yeah, I'm definitely worn out. I went a bit harder today than I normally would with the energy I started with today. But I'll feel better once we're out and around more people..”

Lee insisted, again, that she was fine, and Tarin couldn’t help but give her just the slightest deadpan look. It had been a week and she was still feeling the lingering effects of the injury. Maybe Lee could fool herself, but she couldn’t fool him. He’d been so blinded by self-loathing those first few days to even realize just how much damage he’d done. That wouldn’t happen again. In fact, if Tarin had his way none of this would happen again.
Lee pointed out that she was, in fact, worn out but that she would feel better once she was able to get around more people. Looking across the short distance between them, Tarin shook his head and smiled.
“You know that all you have to do is ask.” he said, thinking that in all honesty he didn’t even really think she needed to ask. It wasn’t like she was going to hurt him. If he couldn’t trust Lee, who could he trust?

Lee’s expression turned a little surprised as Tarin told her all she had to do was ask if she needed an energy pickmeup, and she could have one. She was definitely not used to this, but Lee couldn’t deny that this morning had been a lot nicer, a lot easier, than most mornings.
“Thank you, Tarin,” Lee said softly, giving him a smile. Then she moved closer to him, still leaning against the wall, until her shoulder was touching Tarin’s arm, and she leaned her head against him. “You’re probably going to have to remind me a few times; this hasn’t exactly been a common thing for me. But thank you.”

Lee thanked Tarin and he couldn’t help but look puzzled at the surprised sincerity of her thanks. Lee had loved and been loved, she had a family, she had friends. They had all known about her powers and what she literally needed to survive. There was no way he was the first person who had ever offered to help…
That line of thinking faded into nothing along with every other thought in his head though as Lee just casually slid over and leaned against Tarin.
It was such a simple, casual movement, but Tarin had noticed how careful Lee was about touch. How aware she always seemed spatially. So when Lee moved over to him and leaned against him in that way, it meant something. At least it did to Tarin.
Tarin also didn’t know what to do with his arms. He wanted to slide one behind Lee’s back, or just wrap her in a hug, but with how they were standing it would have been so deliberate. Probably too deliberate, so he just stood there, and looked down at her, smiling, “It’s what you need.” It really was as simple as that.
