As they made their way down the stairs Ranger’s mind was already working on the problem of the sorceress. Mutants, Ranger could tangle with all day. Between her strength—when it worked—and her defenses, it was as if she walked in and leveled the playing field against almost all mutants. From there her skill in fighting and with ordnance gave her the edge.
With mystics… Mystics were proving to be another animal entirely. Ranger had a hard time laying hate on the sorceress, sure he could manage her stone jackals, scarabs, and crocodiles but not her directly. Null likewise had gotten the best of Ranger. That meant Ranger needed new tactics, new equipment. New allies.
Rex seemed to be the answer to the last. The man said he would look into the magic side and gave Ranger his business card. It was a little worse for wear, but not in too bad of shape considering the spin cycle they just went through. Ranger took it.
”T’ have books that get bored of bein’ the same story an’ change it up asa y’r readin’.” Ranger suggested. ”Maybe I can find somethin’ t’ help direct y’ investigation while y’r under the knife. I’ll shoot y’ a text when I have somethin’.”
It didn’t take long for an ambulance to arrive for Rex. SUPER had emergency services holding nearby. Once Ranger gave the go ahead EMS, Fire, and police ESU swarmed the building. Ranger added Rex to his contacts under the name “Jesus Magic” and made arrangements for a sit down with Dr. Goldstein. Ranger had a bad feeling about what the sorceress was up to and was not looking forward to explaining to Noel why they looked so similar.
