Personality: He is reserved to the point of seeming distant and aloof. He is a loner by nature but acts on behalf of others out of a mysterious goal, never predictable. He prefers to watch from the shadows of the scene rather than interact with people. People confuse him and his people skills are not outstanding, almost to the point of being socially repugnant. Though he is a loner, he still goes about a lively night life often found in clubs fighting or dancing by himself. Although he is confused about himself, he acts with precision and steadfast resolution when he does reach a conclusive decision.

Notes (Hobbies, Phobias, Worries, ect.): His hobbies include his constant research of the ancient tomes of knowledge, he is already graduated from college and has a P.H.D in Occult Studies as well as a Masters in World Religions. He often spends much of his free time either studying or training himself in mastering his "inner self" as he calls it. This is the reason he attributes his possessing a mutant ability, he is a servitor of the ancient gods of old. He also takes delight in intellectual debate as he seemingly has two personalities, though this is false, he is simply a different person on and off the battle field. His phobias include drowning in an endless sea as was the demise of his best friend, the fear of losing his ability and the fear of offending his gods.

Allegiance (Good, Bad, or Neutral): He is Neutral to the core operating on his own agenda...albeit through somewhat illegal means.

Everyday clothing: Seth wears a pure black t-shirt with tattered blue jeans, a white sleeveless trench coat with the kanji for "Dragon" on the back of it in pure black ink. On his wrist he wears a single wristband in black leather with metal studs in it that says "The Dark is Afraid of Me".

Uniform (Optional. Required if eventually becoming part of the X-Men): We'll see if he ever joins the X-Men.

Pajamas: Nothing but black satin boxers.

Hair color and style: His hair is long and originally black but is often dyed at the tips with various colors in it such as green, he wears it down or in a ponytail.

Eye color: Piercing Green Eyes

Height: 6 feet

Build: His physique leaves something to be desired in that he should be a bit more muscular but due to his long periods of study and research he is relatively quick and agile rather than hulking strong.

Scars: He has one scar down his right-eye that was given to him in a knife fight back home during his childhood.

Tattoos: The Kanji for "Hate" Tattooed on his right shoulder, the Kanji for "Love" Tattooed on his Left shoulder, the Kanji for "Dragon" tattooed on his Chest and "Regret" Tattooed on his back.. As well as two mystical circles that help him concentrate so that he can concentrate on his palms, but are often covered up by his hand movements.

Piercings: None.

Description of ability(ies): Nick's main ability lies in his eyes. His piercing green eyes watch the movements of his foe and analyze their attacks, then set his genetics to work with copying their abilities for a small amount of time. He also copies their fighting style with this ability. He attributes this ability to his being "Chosen", thus the name he answers to is "Seth" which means Chosen in Hebrew. He uses this advantage to get the drop on his prey by dodging their attack so he may copy it and then throw it back at them. He ascribes this to his "Divine Knoweldge" as he is "Chosen" and thus has special "Abilities".

Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): His main ability of copying can be easily thwarted by those with unpredictable fighting styles and those with psychic powers have been known to be immune to his copying their psychic abilities. His Super Speed can be thwarted by appealing to his sense of Honor to make him stay and fight, or by blocking off physical entrances and exits to a place.
As for the boundaries he can only copy people's abilities as long as he remembers their motions and since he has a photographic memory that doesn't distinguish between relevant and irrelevant things it'll be at MOST a few days unless he specifically always remembers their motions such as with his mother and father because of the traumatic incident that involved him seeing them use their powers. He can only copy as many powers as he can memorize at one time so maybe 2 at the same time with extreme concentration. Also it is possible to overload his memory with powers to slow him down. It doesn't take a lot of energy since its such a limited ability. Yes he has to see them use their abilities to copy them.

Fighting style (if any): His fighting style is mostly centered around using his super speed to disorient the opponent and to land precise crippling blows to their pressure points, or using their own Powers against them.

History of your character:

Nick was born in the humble desert city of El Paso of a Hispanic immigrant and a rich white entrepreneur who had a booming business in the oil industry. His mother was a member of the little known religion called Santeria, which mixed traditional Mexican paganism with Catholicism into a weird concoction. His father was an "agnostic" which everyone in the town knew was his cover for his questionable beliefs and practices. His father, while rich, was almost completely obsessed with his dedication to the so called "Old Gods" that were not dead but merely sleeping in their sunken city R'lyeh. (Yay Lovecraft reference!). The town claimed the reason that he had discovered the initial oil vein that had started his empire because of his dedication to the "Old Gods" and from various rituals that had resulted in the discovery. Of course this was just town gossip and never confirmed...for those who rarely did find out the truth...never lived to tell about it.

As a boy he was often ostracized because of the conditions surrounding his birth. The meteor shower that had happened the night he was born, and the enormous growling heard from the mansion of his Father raised too many eyebrows and the townspeople began to grow from frightened...to dangerous. The ministers of the city's Baptist congregation began preaching against his "unholy" pacts with "Lucifer himself". As a consequence, Nick was forced to stay at home and be home schooled for his early life being taught the normal curriculum in addition to the extremely eccentric and odd beliefs of his parents...his mother especially. It was in this that he discovered that it was his "destiny" to stop the evil of his Father's "gods". His mother imbued him with a ritual of Horus the Avenger that allowed him to become initiated into a belief system that he became to understand as beautiful and unique. At first it was in subtle ways that he began to rebel against his father, like sabotaging rituals and tainting sacrifices.

At the age of 13, Nick began to discover his powers. He began noticing them when he was being taught martial arts by his father's especially brutal method...trial by fire. He began noticing that he could mimic his father's movements by watching him closely. Eventually the "fast learning" of his son made the Father angry and in a surprising move, used a fireball on his rebellious son. Nick quickly discovered in that moment his super speed ability as he dodged. The ensuing beating his Father doled out on him caused Nick to lose consciousness and to be in a temporary coma for the next three months. Those months were filled with weird dreams of cults, men in robes, chanting in tongues, and eventually culminating in a stabbing of him in the chest. When Nick awoke, he was on a stone altar surrounded by men in black robes, they had not been dreams, and he promptly dispatched as many as he could with his speed and martial arts, mimicing for the first time ever to gain victory over an ice control mutant, and a stone mutant before being psychically paralyzed by a member of the cult. Just then, in the moments of pure psychological terror of being 15 powerless and helpless against the cult...a lightning bolt struck the mutant controlling him. Out from the shadows his mother appeared, the glory of Isis (her lightning mutation) shining around her hands. She and his father duked it out, Fire vs Lightning constantly...until their duel was broken up...by an angry fundamentalist Christian mob. The mob seized the "innocent boy" Nick and proceeded to burn the offending "witches". Nick could do nothing but watch his parents...burnt at the stake. His tormentor and his savior...both destroyed in an eternal fire of intolerance. From that day Nick was never the same.

Among the ruins of the charred mansion that was once his home Nick found his father's will...his estate was made out to someone named "John" but thanks to the skillful editing of the manuscript by Nick it was soon made out to himself. A short court hearing later, Nick was now the sole owner of the oil business...and a multimillionaire. Though he had money...he felt robbed...robbed of his mother. His new money allowed him to move to Holland to pursue the "magick" that his mother, father, and he himself held and how to better use it. He ended up in the University of Holland graduating in a remarkable 2 years and going on to get his P.H.D in another 2 years earning himself a doctorate in Occult Studies. He has also received honors from Sweden, Holland and the United Kingdom for his programs for promoting religious and ethnic tolerance world wide. All the while developing his ability to mimic physical movements by studying different types of martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kook Sol Won, Taijutsu and Mui Thai. Using his doctorate he quickly began studying the "magick" of the world observing mutants and regular people alike. Soon his ability to copy abilities quickly manifested and made itself painfully obvious....though still deeply religious Nick began to suspect he was not the only "Chosen" and quickly began to travel the world in search of other "Chosen" such as he...to band together to either End the World...or Save It.

Sample RP: Seth looked around the abandoned warehouse cautiously, his instincts were twitching to no end...danger was about. His vibrant green eyes darted around taking the situation in, studying the terrain for obstructions and exits. There it was, the opening of a door, and cautiously a girl walked in. She had brilliant blond hair, a stunning figure and an even more suspicious...submachine gun. Seth had a feeling it was a setup, but to as to who would be after him...he was drawing a blank.

Slowly Seth stepped from the shadows "So...here for a friendly chat?" he asked non-nonchalantly.

The girl turned her gun on him and smiled sweetly "Later homeboy" she squealed as she pulled the trigger sending a deadly barrage of bullets at Seth. It happened as if in slow motion to Seth, the finger moved, the bullets moved toward him one at a time and his eyes casually pointed them out to him, he could see their trajectories and used his reflexes to deftly roll out of the way of the barrage. The girl was stunned significantly as he appeared unhurt.

"Is that all you have mi amore?" he asked smirking

The girl pulled out a pair of wooden beams attached to a silver figurine Ah...a cross...how quaint. Seth Thought to himself.

"By the power of the Archangel Michael I cast thee out!" she cried as she charged at Seth with her gun out shooting another barrage of death at him.

Seth faded into the shadows "Now, now little girl...." he said as the bullets found purchase in a wall. "I'll show you true power..." he said softly as he quietly moved around the boxes and mechanical gear that littered the warehouse. He appeared beside her and slammed his elbow into her beautiful face, dropping to the ground and planting a powerful upward kick into her chin. She backed up bloodied, her terror playing out in her face. "So...this is why they fear you..." she mumbled to herself as she ran back.

In his melodious voice he said "Stop this foolish mission, watch a true Magician" he made a mimicking hand gestures in arcane symbols as lightning shot from his hands sending her flying into the wall as it buckled under the wieght of the collison. "pick up your silly cross" he said mysteriously as he smirked "you're playing with the big boys now." He slammed his fist into her collarbone as he raised her up into the air "by the might of Horus, you will kneel before us." he threw her to the ground and kicked her head into the cement. "These are your last moments of breath...I suggest that you use them well." he said softly.

The girl looked up with groggy eyes as if puzzled on what to do "I reccommend pissing yourself and praying to your impotent god." he said as he picked her up by her hair. "May you rest in peace and may M'aat be merciful." he said as he made a number of Arcane symbols activating his copy ability...and in moments the poor girl's body was consumed by shadow...a corpse drained of life. Dropping the useless thing Seth walked out of the warehouse dusting himself off.

"When will they learn?" he asked himself somberly...silently hating the waste of life that war caused....especially the religious wars.

I'm a little interested about how your character could get their PHD by age 21.... even super smart people still need to go through the motions and take the time... Maybe you could write a little more background on his education for us? Not to be nit picky... haha but I is 22 and bustin my butt through school lol and would love my Phd by now

I'd sure yourself and Kaz would have much to discuss as you're so similar.

Your writing is impressive and your character interesting. Since your character's main ability is in his eyes, I wonder what would happen if he met up with an illusionist whose power is in fooling the eye (and the other senses). It could be interesting I think.

I like the connections you are drawing between ancient mythologies and the current mutants. I have done a bit of that in a few of my posts.

I have a clarification question for you:
Seth used his copying ability to mimic his mother and father's powers of lightning and fire, and because it was during a traumatic experience he still remembers them. So he can always use lightning and fire, correct? If so, I suggest listing that under his mutant ability section so people remember without having to read through the history again. You also didn't mention the super speed in the abilities section.

One other question: in the end of the sample RP, where did he copy the life consuming shadow ability from?

Thanks for the warm welcomes all As to Katrina's observations: 1) He can't always use the fire and lightning, its more of a life threatening reaction kind of thing. 2) The super speed power was rejected. 3) The life consuming shadow was just for the RP sample, it really isn't something he can do

I know someone in RL who is 21 or 22 with a PhD. Some people are crazy smart enough to graduate from high school early, speed through their undergraduate, and skip right to PhD.

You don't have to do a masters before getting a PhD and it said he finished college, then PhD in 2 years each. It seems plausible to me the way it is. There have been younger PhDs, like Tathagat from India.

well just the same if his character is super smart and sped through everything I'd like to see it written there :\ especially since it's not something that happens all the time so i think it needs a little more background information. He could add it to his history and his personality. I think it would also authenticate his intense interest in the Occult and knowledge of it. Many people who have PhD at young ages have been awarded them for breakthrough research studies - and since the average undergrad degree takes 4 years (which is what this would need) I think there should be more information and am asking him to elaborate a little more on what he's allready written- not change it. It should also help him know his character better and develop him. Kat if you disagree with something I've asked someone to do please PM me in future and I can clarify.
