Individual
Character's full name: Jayelle Greenway
Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Green Jay
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Date of Birth: 9/11/2005
Birthplace/Home/Place of Origin: Brooklyn, New York City, New York
Nationality: American
Ethnicity/Cultural Heritage: 75% Caucasian American, 25% Chinese-American
Appearance
Hair color and style: Originally dark brown, almost black, but her mutation has rendered her hair color a permanent shade of bright, neon green. She typically lets her hair fall down to her shoulders, it remaining otherwise unkempt.
Skin Tone: Fair.
Eye Color: Originally brown, but they have also turned green since her powers manifested. Jay's eyes glow bright green when she is actively using her powers.
Height: 5'6"
Build: Lithe, very naturally athletic and toned
Visible mutation: Her hair and eyes, as stated above. Most people assume she has just dyed her hair so they do not give it a second thought.
Scars/Tattoos/Piercings: A single nose piercing on her left ala, and ear piercings for both ears.
Other features: None significant enough to warrant an extensive description.
Everyday clothing style: Jay typically prefers to dress casually; loose shirts and baggy pants, or tank tops and ankle-length tights, typically in contrasting colours of black or white and various shades of green, all concealed beneath a black hoodie she found in a dumpster that she really likes. She isn't really picky about clothes, really, considering she gets most of her own ones from dumpsters - and would wear pretty much whatever she finds. The only wearable items she is actually passionate about are shoes; a proud sneakerhead, she collects discarded sneakers from anywhere she can find and is phenomenally attached to her pair of emerald Adidas Tyshawns that match her hair.
Uniform: She doesn't have one yet.
Sleepwear: Considering she mostly sleeps on the streets, Jay ends up sleeping in whatever she is wearing. She has discovered a set of pajamas consisting of a lime green tank top and matching shorts, but its usually too cold outside for her to actually consider using them.
Miscellaneous clothing: Not any worth mentioning at the moment.
Character Personality: Before gaining her powers, Jay was shy and timid, not very confident in herself, and hardly as outgoing. She felt a consistent void within herself, and was always anxious, not really sure of herself or her actions or decisions. The day she 'spread her wings' - or skipped on air - for the first time, she felt that void suddenly disappear, filled with the vibrant green energy - a vitality - that grants her powers. Since that day she has never doubted herself.
Very much like her namesake, Jay is now a confident and energetic soul. She is talkative and has an extensive vocabulary as well as imagination. Always skipping around from one place to another, Jay is eager to learn and try new things, and is distinctively stubborn. Once she sets her mind on something, she is not going to relent until she gets it.
She is fun-loving, somewhat naive, and adventurous with a sense of humor. She possesses a deep respect for life and freedom, although she isn't afraid to fight. She craves the stimulation of new people and places. Her frequent off-course detours tends to frustrate both allies and opponents alike. She is a morally upright individual, although she is not very trusting of others when it comes to her powers - she believes everyone is trying to play politics around Mutants, and she does not want any part of that.
Hobbies/ Interests: She loves to sing, and, as a result of her powers she possesses a beautiful voice of her own, and can mimic the voices of other singers perfectly as well. Other than that, her hobbies include spray-painting, parkour and collecting sneakers. She particularly dislikes the Sun, and prefers to set out into the city jumping from rooftop to rooftop in a cool breeze in the night, or a cloudy day, and she especially loves the rain and doing so in the rain.
Job or part time job and description: She doesn't have one yet.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Her fear or concerns are losing her powers (and therefore, she believes, her confidence and the very person she thinks she has become) and her actual phobia is, as explained in her Weaknesses section ('A Bird In The Hand'), her instinctive claustrophobia.
Special talents: If one does not count her singing (which is related to her mutation), Jay is gifted with the arts. She expresses herself by leaving sticker tags wherever she could, and with graffiti.
Morality Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good
Feelings toward Humans: She is biased against most of them for considering her and her kind different and treating them differently in the first place, and because she believes her life turned around the moment she discovered she was not (truly) human. Still, her bias is not strong enough for her to refuse helping a human if they need it or befriending one should it come down to it.
Feelings toward Adapteds: Jay doesn't know Adapteds exist, but should she ever encounter one and have her powers nullified, Jay would be downright horrified because she has become so overly reliant on her powers and they form an integral part of the very person she is.
Feelings toward Mystics: Jay doesn't know magical people are real either, but should she ever encounter one, she'd see them in a positive light - perhaps even think of them as cool because of how creative and imagination-provoking the thought of magic being real is to her.
Mutations Mutation description: Avian Physiology: Jay's X-gene resulted in domino-effect mutations downstream her genome, followed by epigenetic changes which ultimately resulted in the alteration of some portions of her genetic material to closely resemble that of passerine birds in the crow family, Corvidae, particularly similar to that of blue and green jays.
- I Believe I Can Fly: The first and most basic application of Jay's powers is a kind of energy that coats the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet and bequeaths them the ability to 'bounce' on or otherwise interact with physical fluids (such as air and water) in the same manner as one could with a solid. Typically, Jay uses her ability to transiently solidify air (or any fluid-phase matter) to act as a cushion against her applied force. Jay can thus jump on air, punch it, kick it, skate on it, etc. and make the air react like a trampoline and propel herself through it.
- Graceful as a Swan: The energy that Jay's body produces as a result of her X-gene imbues her bone, muscle, nerve and skin cells and imparts to them a natural flexibility, an economy of motion, a lightness of weight, and an agility surpassing those of the finest Olympic gymnasts. Her bones are hollow like a bird's, making her lighter, faster and agile enough to be considered superhuman.
- A Bird's Eye View: The green energy produced by Jay's cells as a result of her mutation imbues her eyes as well and enhances in particular her vision. Like many birds, through her bright green eyes, Jay can see into the ultraviolet spectrum, imparting her with visual acuity far exceeding that of any ordinary human.
- Prey Instinct: Jays, swallows, sparrows, and nightingales are migratory birds, and as such, are evolved to possess instincts which enable them to evade and survive. Jay possesses a limited danger sense.
- Birdsong: Jays are a species known for their boisterousness, their very extensive voice repertoire, exotic and varied calls, and their ability to mimic sounds, including those of other birds and human speech. The green energy produced by Jay's cells due to the activation of her X-gene imbues her vocal cords, enabling her to possess an incredible degree of control over them.
Strengths:
- I Believe I Can Fly: Jay can "fly" (or give the illusion of flight) into the air as if she were kicking against two parallel walls over and over again; that is, she can only treat air as a solid surface for no more than a few moments at a time. Her "air walking" is just like a rock skipping on a body of water; she can skip across the wind by constantly kicking the air underneath her. This power, combined with her natural flexibility and agility, allows her to perform awe-striking stunts in mid-air.
- Graceful as a Swan: Jay can twist, somersault, contort, flip, roll, spring and perform practically any acrobatic maneuver reflexively and almost effortlessly. Even the most mundane of her movements are naturally fluid, graceful and flawless, like those of a trained ballerina. Her muscles do not even twitch unnecessarily - her body is void of even a single wasted micromovement.
- A Bird's Eye View: Jay's ultraviolet vision grants her an incredible clarity of perception, enabling her to keep up with fast-moving objects in her line of sight. She can see colors that other humans cannot, she can see well through fog and rain, she notices tiny things in her line of sight that most people would ignore, and her vision functions excellently even underwater and in the dark. With the help of her ultraviolet vision, Jay can also see traces of evidence not visible to the naked eye under normal lighting, such as hidden blood, fingerprints, footprints, and fibers as well as subcutaneous bruises on living and dead bodies.
- Prey Instinct: As part of her 'Prey Instinct', Jay has a natural tendency (though not fool-proof by any means) to 'claw out of harm's way' i.e. to instinctively find the perfect hiding spot where she has the least chance of giving away her presence, and to preserve energy when fleeing. Her instincts also serve as a very limited danger sense, in that feels a familiar nervous jitteriness when someone or something within a twenty meter radius could cause her potential harm.
- Birdsong: Jay's precise control over her vocal cords enables her to vocalize a large variety of sounds, from perfect mimicry of various bird sounds to even human speech - she can imitate singers and vocalists with beautiful or impressive voices with perfection, and has a melodious singing voice of her own. She can also mimic the voices of others or imitate sounds such as animal noises and explosions, which can be useful in creating confusion.
Weaknesses and Limitations: While gaining several bird-like powers as a result of her X-gene, Jay also gained her fair share of weaknesses.
- Sticks and Stones Will Break My Bones: While Jay is swift, evasive and graceful, she is not strong. Jay's bones are hollow like those of a bird, and while this imparts her with lightness of weight and facilitates her elegant aerial performance, it renders her bones far more susceptible to breaking than a normal human's. She can suffer from immensely painful fractures if someone assails her limbs or joints even with normal human levels of strength.
- I Believe I Can Fly: Jay's ability to 'air-walk' or 'air-jump' is limited by her natural stamina. The ability comes naturally to her, but it drains her stamina reserves if she uses it endlessly without rest. At present, Jay can air-hop continuously without break for about half an hour before physical exhaustion settles in; she must then rest for half that amount of time in order to replenish herself. The ability works against most typical fluids that are free-flowing liquids or gases, but it does not work against extremely viscous liquids or semisolids or sticky substances, such as mud or quicksand or glue.
- A Bird in the Hand: Jay is pathologically crippled by "being caged" or "caught"; she suffers from an instinctive claustrophobia, and being in excessively tight spaces fills her with an intense anxiety and induces a potent panic attack that she cannot easily escape from. A place so confined that it would hinder her freedom of movement or prevent from air-walking can mentally cripple her and effectively neutralize her.
- Prey Instinct: Jay's danger sense is very limited; while she can sense someone with malicious intent towards her if they are within a twenty meter radius, she cannot detect the exact nature of the threat or the location where the danger is coming from, and so must actively seek out the threat in order to determine its nature. Also, while she may be able to react to a potentially harmful agent in advance, this is only true when she is given a reasonable window to do so. For instance, she can't honestly dodge a speedster if they decide to attack her at super speed, before they actually do so.
Physical Abilities General Physical Capabilities:
- Strength: Jay possesses the typical strength of a girl of her height, weight and age who engages in moderate regular exercise; however, her durability (or 'strength of endurance') is almost laughable, thanks to her hollow bones. She is prone to fractures from even the most minor of injuries, and although her natural grace usually compensates for this by making sure she simply never falls or accidentally hits anything, getting physically injured by someone is another, very painful, story. It is worth noting that should Jay's mutation be nullified by any means, her bones' hollowness would disappear and then she'd actually possess the durability of a normal human.
- Speed: While not 'fast' like a speedster, thanks to her mutation, Jay possesses the proportionate swiftness of a bird and her neuromusculature is inclined to not waste even a single micromovement, therefore bestowing upon her the ability to execute quick movements at a speed beyond the natural limits of the finest human athlete. Nimble and quick on her feet, she can typically dance circles around a normal human, even trained martial artists (and others of comparable 'speeds') and take them down quickly before they can react to her.
- Stamina: While perhaps not to the extent of other extremely hardy superhumans, Jay nonetheless possesses exceptional stamina, enabling her to hold her breath for minutes at a time, to being able to engage in complex acrobatic maneuvers for hours and hours on end before fatigue begins to impair her.
- Flexibility: As a result of her mutation, Jay is more flexible and agile than the finest human athlete, gymnast or contortionist, and is able to execute feats of incredible gymnastic skill as a result as outlined above. She can coordinate her body's equilibrium, balance, flexibility, and dexterity with far greater skill than any trained athlete and she may, perhaps, be considered the world's greatest acrobat. It is worth noting that should Jay's mutation be nullified, she would lose her incredible flexibility, agility and grace and, in fact, become somewhat of a klutz.
- Reflexes: Jay's reflexes are tied strongly to her powers; her exceptional visual acuity ('A Bird's Eye View') and her naturally fluid and graceful movements ('Graceful as a Swan') all come together and ensure that her reflexes are superhumanly enhanced - roughly three to four times greater than those of any ordinary human. Her powers combined, her reflexes allow her to dodge and dance around most typical high-speed attacks as long as she can see them coming and is not taken by surprise. Again, her phenomenal reflexes are the result of her powers - should Jay's mutation be nullified, she would possess the reflexes of an ordinary girl of her height, weight and age who engages in moderate regular exercise.
Fighting Style: While not a formally trained fighter, Jay has spent considerable time on the streets and has had her fragile bones broken enough times when getting in over her head, to quickly develop a roughly-put-together, street-esque, fighting style unique to her: one that capitalizes on avoiding being struck by any opponent while using their own strength against them and taking them out swiftly without prolonging a fight.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Her fighting style tends to utilize movements which employ the whole body with smooth coiling and uncoiling actions, hand techniques, dynamic footwork, throws and a constant circular movement that makes it difficult for opponents to land a blow. She moves in to quickly and swiftly incapacitate an opponent, aiming at pressure points or tripping them etc. before they can react. However, if she is caught or trapped or struck by an opponent with greater strength and endurance than her, things can quickly go south because of her inherent deficit in durability and physical strength.
History Of Your Character Jayelle Greenway was born to Stephanie Greenway, a half-Chinese-American and half-Caucasian woman and Lukas Byers, in Brooklyn, New York, where she lived and grew up. Jay remembers very little of her earliest childhood, just that she grew up listening to Shoop by Salt-N-Pepa (which is to date her favorite song), and that her mother left her father when she was still a toddler because he was abusive and a drunkard. She remembers moving from place to place as a child, her mother finding odd jobs all around New York to raise her as a single mom, and even moving to New Jersey at one point. 'Grow up free, Jay', her mom used to say to her, 'don't end up trapped like me.'
Jayelle loved her mother dearly, both their lives revolving around one another. Stephanie and Jay were inseparable, and soon enough, Jay was going to school. Jay was ten years old when her father found his mother again, having tracked her down to Jersey and in a drunk rage, shot her. The trauma of Stephanie's death and Lukas' ultimate arrest and incarceration hit Jayelle hard, and she never really adjusted to the foster care system the state put her in. Even though the experience had rendered her timid and withdrawn, she used to repeatedly escape from the orphanage or whatever foster home she was a part of and hang out with a group of Brooklyn boys, with whom she learned to spray-paint down in the subways.
It was only a matter of time before someone in the authorities would catch her, and she would be sent back into the system, only to escape again. This happened three or four times, and she was asleep down there, in the subways after spray-painting a wall, when she first awakened her powers. It was only a few months after she first discovered the wonders that were monthly cycles. She woke up after a horrific dream about her mother's death, and suddenly she felt like a different person: gone was the shy, timid girl that couldn't face the world and so kept running. She suddenly found herself leaping off rooftops and pulling quadruple somersaults through the Brooklyn skyline.
Once she discovered her powers, Jayelle learned to completely elude all authorities and completely went under the radar. She has lived the past four years of her life in this manner, prowling everywhere across Brooklyn - the streets, subways and skyscrapers. She has developed her own 'homeless network' over the years, achieved complete mastery in dumpster diving, and gotten in her own fair share of fights with various kinds of people, thus discovering the - rather painful - limitations of her powers.

|BROOKLYN BRIDGE, NEW YORK |August 8, 2016
Jade eyes narrowed behind hair that were a matching shade and blowing madly in the coastal breeze. From her perch atop the center of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Green Jay stared forlornly at the giant sea in the distance. Something had changed within her, a little over three weeks ago. The night she had woken up from a dream, suddenly knowing that her previous life had ended. A life that she had spent caged, one that had lasted all of eleven years, but was now gone.
She was Jayelle Greenway, and she was a whole new person.
Pushing herself off the edge of the middle bridge tower, Jay grabbed the edge of the tower with her left hand and began to hang from the edge, her feet against the tower structure. The urban pandemonium of car horns and sirens down below greeted her ears, and Jay could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She was insane, said the voice in the back of her mind, the voice that had guided her actions her whole life, but that had recently been shoved into a quiet corner of her mind.
She was hanging, by one hand, off the middle tower of the Brooklyn Bridge with clamorous traffic and raging dark river water down below, and the night sky above.
What she was doing was suicide, said the voice.
"I can do this," she knew she could. Ever since the night she had woken up with green hair and green eyes, she knew she could do a great many things that she couldn't before.
And so, she leapt.
She suddenly felt the impact of the wind against her body, it causing her bones to ache with the strength with which it struck. For a moment, her heart thundering against her chest threatening to break through, she thought this was it. Her life, all twelve of her years, immediately flashed before her eyes, and she closed her eyes and screamed.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"
She was going to fall into the river, and she was going to die.
Then, suddenly, it happened.
Her eyes snapped open, glowing a brilliant viridescent, staring down into the rapidly approaching bridge and the water below. Suddenly, the cars down below and the dark waters were so brilliantly clear, and they seemed to slow down, as if she was viewing it all in slow motion. Jay clenched her fists tightly, brought her arms up, and moved: she flipped around herself mid-fall and slammed her feet down into the air below.
The air responded, seeming to stretch below her as if it were a solid rubber band, before it retracted and sent her propelling right back up into the air.
"WHOO-HOO!!!" she screamed before beginning to cackle, her spirit free, relieved of all its burdens.
She flipped again, once again landing on the air before bouncing off of it and landing her green sneakered foot on the bridge tower well and pushing herself off of it, reverse-somersaulting through the air before her. Again, as she came upright, she stomped down on the air and let it trampoline her up higher. She repeated the maneuvers multiple times, rising through the air and up the tower each time before finally landing atop its roof in a crouch.
She broke into a pant, resting her hands on her knees and catching her breath. The cold chill and the memory of the air resistance impacting against her body as she was falling to her death moments prior assaulted her simultaneously, causing her bones to ache, but she was too elated right now to care, the adrenaline high causing her to break into a free-spirited laugh.
"Did you see that, Mom?! I don't have to answer to anyone anymore! I'm free!" she shouted into the night sky, before twirling around and landing on her back atop the tower roof.
A single tear escaped her eyes, but for the first time in a long time, it was one of joy.
