Stuck in the Mansion on Christmas Blues (Princess)
Carrick was still playing around in the snow, packing it into a bigger pile and then into a bigger ball. Amethyst was not sure what he was trying to do, so she watched. She had seen kids from the Mansion playing with snow as well; it seemed to be a popular pastime. One that required gloves.
Eventually, he picked up the larger ball, and tossed it at her. The princess scrambled out of the way, almost tripping over her boots. Boots were troublesome. "Hey!"
>>”Talk to me mum.”
Oh. That was what he wanted. It made sense. Amethyst noted his tail and wings drooping. What was she supposed to say?
>>”Ever build a snowman?”
"I have never even seen snow before." she pointed out, shaking some flakes off her cloak. "Not the kind that sticks, anyway. Why do you build a man from it?"
Carrick shrugged, ”Guess ya could build a woman from it as well…” he wasn’t one to discriminate. Snow women could be just as good at being snow people as snow men. Carrick had built a few of each over the years. They usually were target practice for a dive bomb or a Gryphon attack. ”Target Practice?”
”This will be a treat then.” he smirked getting distracted. ”The kind that doesn’t ruin me figure. Just me hands.” he said blowing into them to warm them up a bit as he started making another pile of snow this one bigger than the last.
”Yer lucky ya have me around, doubt anyone would show ya how to make one.” Carrick said off handedly, ”Oh and ya can eat the snow, just stay away from brown and yellow.” he said his wings opened slightly as he crouched to gather more snow into the pile.
>>”Guess ya could build a woman from it as well… Target Practice?”
The princess arched an eyebrow. She was not sure about this whole snow person thing. But Carrick seemed determined to do it now, and it was his birthday, after all.
>>”This will be a treat then. The kind that doesn’t ruin me figure. Just me hands.”
"Shouldn't you be wearing gloves?" she ventured. She owned gloves, just not the kind that was supposed to get anywhere near snow. She doubted Carrick had the same excuse.
>>”Yer lucky ya have me around, doubt anyone would show ya how to make one. Oh and ya can eat the snow, just stay away from brown and yellow.”
"Why would I eat it?" she glanced down. Eating snow off the ground just sounded... bad. But Carrick was already at work, so the princess smoothed back her cape. "Alright, let's make a... snow person then."
”Shouldn’t you be wearing gloves? How ya gonna suggest building a snowperson without gloves on?” he shot back in a smirk as he shook his hands once more and buried them into some snow crafting a large sphere. He did have gloves just not the kind that kept hands dry he rarely played in the snow now. Mainly due to lack of motivation, and now he had the distraction he needed from thinking about today being his birthday.
”Just water.” Carrick said shrugging and hefting a little bit of white snow into his mouth it was important to him to show this aspect of snow off. When he was a kid he was always amazed it was just water one of the many things that reminded him of his…
He donned a Boston accent ”I found a backstory is key when making snow people. That way ya know how to shape ‘em. Now we making a police officer whose one day away from retirement,” he gestured to his gut and opened his arms reverting back to his normal accent, ”Or ya thinking someone of someone a bit fancier like a princess?” he gestured to her before gathering more snow. ”She could even borrow yer cloak.”
>>”Shouldn’t you be wearing gloves? How ya gonna suggest building a snowperson without gloves on?”
"I should." she agreed. She had dipped hand hands in the snow before, and now the chill was getting to them. Carrick was eating snow, which... probably wasn't harmful, but definitely wasn't appetizing. Even if it was just water. And she did not want her tongue to get cold either.
>>”I found a backstory is key when making snow people. That way ya know how to shape ‘em. Now we making a police officer whose one day away from retirement... Or ya thinking someone of someone a bit fancier like a princess? She could even borrow yer cloak.”
"I need my cloak. It's cold out here." she protested "So... it's like sculpting, then." she mused. Sculpting was a craft royalty did not engage in, but they definitely enjoyed the results. "Let's make a snow griffin, then."
”Just like it.” he agreed, starting on the second sphere before she suggested a snow Gryphon and he stopped rolling the second sphere. ”Don’t know how we’d do the wings.” he said thinking on it. He opened his wings and looked at them then the snow and shook his head. He’d circle back to that. Wings folding behind him again he tightened them to his back keeping the cold out as he crouched back down merging the two sphere’s together instead of stacking them.
”Long as you don’t say you like this one better I don’t think the other guy will have any problems with it.” he said patting the curve of the sphere’s so they formed into each other. ”Ya like sculpting then?” the shifter asked while shaking his hands dry and breathing into them to warm them.
”Also got the perfect piece to bring ‘em to life.” he reached in his pocket and found a gem that he found earlier that day and set it where the body of snow was now curling around it. It was in his opinion a bit more realistic now. His shifted form did love the shines the Princess produced. ”I mean, I could always shift and you could just bury me.” he said with a little laugh. ”He’d prefer the attention instead of the snow one here.”
>>"Don’t know how we’d do the wings... Long as you don’t say you like this one better I don’t think the other guy will have any problems with it.”
Carrick added more snow to his sphere of snow, signifying the body and the head of the snow griffin. So far, it did not look like anything she would prefer over anyone, but it was not a finished product just yet. Amethyst got to work too, trying to shape a beak out of more snow.
>>”Ya like sculpting then?”
"I like sculptures. They are decorative." she admitted. The snow was very cold, but the griffin was at least taking on a recognizable shape.
>>”Also got the perfect piece to bring ‘em to life... I mean, I could always shift and you could just bury me. He’d prefer the attention instead of the snow one here.”
Carrick placed a gem on the snow griffin, and the princess chuckled, smoothing over the sides. It only looked like a griffin with the best of intentions, but it was not bad for a first try. "You should definitely not strip in this weather." she pointed out, blowing on her hands. Her fingers were turning pink. "And we should definitely do this with gloves on."
After a few minutes the Gryphon took a step back and looked at his wings again then looked around. Sure they could make wings from snow but it didn’t have ‘ohhh’ factor he was hoping it would have had. ”Surprising coming from you. Usually yer telling me to loose them.” the distraction seemed to work, he even meant the grin he gave her.
”Defintly be warmer fer me though.” he said as he hopped into the air opened his wings and went to the nearest tree not to shift but look for the wings. ”Holy… Ya think me beaks that big?” he yelled, ”Can see it from here! Look at the size of it” he reached up and touched his nose and gave a laugh finding a full branch with tons of little off shoots almost looking like it could cover something. It was. When Carrick pulled the branch an angry squirrel was unearthed.
”And maybe a bat!” The squirrel started barking, Carrick felt his stomach and throat growl a little in response and took a step onto another branch intending to leave the squirrel alone. When he walked from one branch to the next he found the branch he stepped on couldn’t support his weight. With a loud snap he found his footing gone and himself falling out of the tree. Opening his wings he righted himself midflight and landed on his feet throwing his hands up. ”Ta-da!” he picked up the broken branches and set the big from the body of the snow Gryphon over the gem.
Carrick’s eyes looked over to the Princess ”Uncanny,” he smirked and breathed into his hands. ”It’s like I’m looking into a mirror. You love, found yer calling.” he flashed his teeth in a smile.
>>”Surprising coming from you. Usually yer telling me to loose them. Defintly be warmer fer me though.”
"It was one time" Amethyst muttered. She was still not sure she understood why making out and taking clothes off had freaked Carrick out so much. But she was not going to nag anyone about doing any of that if they were not inclined.
Carrick, on his part, decided to go up a tree for some reason.
>>”Holy… Ya think me beaks that big? Can see it from here! Look at the size of it”
"Come down here and do better!" the princess snapped, shaping the snow griffin. There was a cracking sound, and by the time she turned around, Carrick was on the ground again, surrounded by broken branches. He seemed unhurt. He had wings. And now so did the snow griffin.
>>”Uncanny. It’s like I’m looking into a mirror. You love, found yer calling.”
"Keep making fun of me" the princess smirked at him, blowing on her hands too. Her fingers felt numb from the cold. "Can we go inside? I can't feel my fingers. Or my nose."
”Wouldn't dream of it!” he said his grin turning to teeth chattering. Carrick looked over the snow Gryphon and nodded his head. He felt a tiny bit guilty he didn’t get to destroy the thing his Gryphon form wanted it gone and wanted the gem Carrick was planning on leaving. He was cold however and so was the Princess. ”Got a feeling I’m coming back out here later. The big guy doesn’t like it.”
”Surprised ya wanted to be out here this long, I was only out here ‘cause of you.” Carrick said through a chattering smile and a nod of his head and started to head for the window he exited to come outside but then realized he was the only one walking that way so backtracked a bit to follow the Princess.
”Soooo… what else ya got going on today?” he asked curiously taking a few steps in front of her only to walk backwards with his hands on his head. His feet lifting a bit more than usually so he didn’t trip from the snow.
>>”Got a feeling I’m coming back out here later. The big guy doesn’t like it.”
"Well he can build a better one" the princess shrugged. She was not sure what problem his griffin form might have with the snow griffin (she assumed that was what he was talking about), but now that the thing had been made, she was on to other adventures. Just not out in the cold.
>>”Surprised ya wanted to be out here this long, I was only out here ‘cause of you.”
They headed back to the building. Through the door, because there was no way the princess was climbing in through a damn window.
>>”Soooo… what else ya got going on today?”
"Not much" she admitted "I really want to drink something warm. And open this present. But we should get you a cake too."
”How would he? He doesn’t have thumbs?” Carrick said showing off both of his thumbs. In all truth Carrick doubted he had the ability to form the snow with his massive paws in his shifted form. They were designed for taking down prey not building a snow replica. That being said even if he had the ability in his Gryphon form to create a snow man he was pretty sure the ego of his final form wouldn’t allow for anything that was supposed to resemble him other than his reflection.
Due to the cold it was more apparent Carrick was blushing at the mention of the gift he had got her. He turned on his heels and kept walking into the mansion making sure to grab the door before the Princess got there. He was raised to have manners, he liked showing them off on occasion.
”Oh?” Carrick smirked, ”Didn’t know ya could bake.” he said remembering it was his birthday again. His tail drooped behind him again the more he was dwelling on it. ”So do ya wear an apron or…?” he asked trying to imagine the Princess in an apron. His eyes trailed her up and down and he smirked. ”Be a sight.” he smirked.
The Mansion was surprisingly quiet as they entered. Many students went home for the holidays - those that had a good relationship with their family, anyway. The rest were probably in their rooms, enjoying the break and the presents. The staff had made sure everyone had presents. Even Amethyst had gotten one. Seemed like no one realized it was Carrick's birthday, though.
>>”Oh? Didn’t know ya could bake. So do ya wear an apron or…? Be a sight.”
"I can't bake." the princess admitted "Can you? Can we just pay someone to bring you a cake?"
>>”Hot cocoa?”
"Yes please." Amethyst took off the cloak and shook the snow off her boots as they headed to the kitchen. It was nice to be out of the cold.
”Aye,” he said nodding his head, ”Mom taught me.” his tail dropped a little, ”Not really in a baking mood though…” he trailed off. His tail drooping more the more he thought about his mom. ”I don’t really need a cake.” he said shrugging, ”Coca though.” he said giving her a thumbs up.
She removed her cloak and the snow from her. The shifter did something similar only shaking his body slightly trying to kick as much snow off his wings and body as he could. There wasn’t much but it was enough to feel lighter once his wings were cleared. ”Baking’s pretty easy though.” he said his hands behind his head again as he strut forward to the kitchen.
”If yer sold on cake I’m sure I could teach ya. Can even make it sound like me mother’s doing the teaching.” he smirked a sad smile. ”Carri, I swear if ya don’t get yer fingers out of the frosting you’ll be getting the spoon. Now, where’s my glasses.” his voice said adopting one he used to sound like his mothers.
They passed the living room Carrick snuck in grabbed his stuff and walked back out towards the kitchen. ”I mean, frosting’s pretty great, don’t know why anyone would be mad at me eating it.” he said thinking about it. Carrick had a sweet tooth.
When he entered the kitchen he grabbed two mugs and set his backpack and guitar down. ”How’s yer first Christmas?” he asked grabbing the cocoa mix from one of the cupboards.
>>”Aye. Mom taught me. Not really in a baking mood though… I don’t really need a cake.”
The princess silently cursed herself. She'd managed to distract Carrick, and now he was back to thinking about his mom. She could see his wings and tail drooping. Sh frantically tried to think of something else to cheer him up.
>>”Baking’s pretty easy though. If yer sold on cake I’m sure I could teach ya. Can even make it sound like me mother’s doing the teaching. Carri, I swear if ya don’t get yer fingers out of the frosting you’ll be getting the spoon. Now, where’s my glasses.”
Amethyst chuckled, trying to imagine Carrick dipping into sweets in the kitchen. It was not hard to imagine. "She sounds delightful." She was also intrigued by the idea of him baking. It sounded like a hassle to do any of... the things bakers did.
They ended up in the kitchen, Carrick busying himself with the hot chocolate.
>>”How’s yer first Christmas?”
"I am not sure I understand the whole reasoning behind it, but... it's festive?" she ventured, taking a seat at the kitchen table, and working on the wrapping of her present "And I like gifts."
