Liz scritched her dog behind the ears even more and smiled. “That’s good to know,” she said. Not that she actually planned on getting into fights or anything, and hopefully she’d never need the kind of backup martial mutants could provide, it was a huge burden off her shoulders that Liz didn’t even know she had.
In fact, a surge of peace and security was starting to build in her, and it wasn’t coming from any animal. Her smile deepened.
“Tuesday morning, danger room, fresh, no stretching,” Liz repeated back. That would give her time to track down where the danger room was again - she’d only ever used it once, and that was to attend a school dance. And that had been almost a decade ago and in parts of the mansion she’d never had business being in. But she was a teacher now, and now going to be something of a student again. Things were different. “I’ll be there.”
And Sam was off. Zorro’s tongue lolled out as he watched the man go before turning to look up at his mistress’s face. “Good boy, Zorro,” she said. “This is going to be good for us. Here’s to taking back control of life.”
And then she clicked her tongue and started walking off toward the mansion’s entrance, her dog right on her heels.
