Character's real name: Kyle Arac Codename/Alias: Switch.
Gender: Male Age: 18 Nationality/Ethnicity: Caucasian (American) Birthplace: Westchester, New York Personality: Kyle has a “I look out for me and mine” sort of attitude, but since there aren’t any people he would put in the “mine” category, he just looks out for himself. He can be smooth and highly appealing, coming off something like a young hot rock star at times. Kyle has no illusions about loyalty. He knows what it is, but that’s about the full extent of his relationship with the concept. Kyle is intelligent, rather conniving, and doesn’t lack guts by any means. In fact, he may have more guts than is wise.
Notes (Hobbies, Phobias, Worries, ect.): Kyle is obsessive about making sure there’s nothing in his life that rules him, or binds him to a certain course of action. He will follow orders if it’s a situation he deems beneficial to him. However, Kyle will be under the thumb of no Master, regardless of who or what that master might be.
Allegiance (Good, Bad, or Neutral): Kyle is on his own side, but he can be swayed to work for the side of whoever can make it most worth his while.
Everyday clothing: probably somewhat loose jeans, a shirt of some kind that flatters him, and some silver (and/or black) accessories. He basically wears whatever. Uniform (Optional. Required if eventually becoming part of the X-Men): none Pajamas: If it’s hot, boxers and perhaps a beater, if it’s cold, sweatpants and a t-shirt.
Hair color and style: a medium brown, not long enough to touch his shoulders, and usually styled carelessly, which somehow works for him. Eye color: brown Height: average- a bit tall Build: slim, but toned.
Scars: Kyle has many scars littering his person though only one on his face, and that’s pretty unnoticeable. The scar on Kyle’s face is a small line from a cut at his hair line on the left side. It is about an inch long, and is almost never noticed since his hair covers it almost all the time. One of the other more note-worthy of his scars is a large clean slanted line on his right arm spanning nearly the entire distance from his elbow to his wrist. (this would be on the side of his arm that faces away from his body). He is not particularly concerned with hiding any of his scars, but most of the rest are typically hidden under his clothing, including a series of scars mostly on his left leg, coming from a time when he got caught in barbed wire when he was in his early teen years. Tattoos: none as of yet. Piercings: His left eyebrow, cartilage (more than once) and lobe of both ears.
Description of ability(ies): Kyle’s power allows him to retrieve data from one source, and transfer it directly into another. He is able to work with information on computer, as well as thoughts stored in human brains, which include latent memories, thoughts (even those that have been shoved into the back of a person’s mind), even things the person who’s brain he’s taking things from doesn’t realize they know. Kyle is even capable of locating and transferring the memories of amnesia patients. Typically, Kyle simply makes a quick copy of the data and moves that, leaving the original source of information unaffected, but he can also ‘delete’ the original source data. Kyle can also transfer the data to himself, but this is much harder. These transfers do not require Kyle to be in physical contact with the computers or people affected by them. Since Kyle’s mutation developed, he has had a very sharp memory. Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): Kyle cannot cross source types. He can only move information from one brain to another brain, or one computer to another computer. He has a harder time keeping information in his brain when taking it from somewhere else. It is much easier to simply put it somewhere else and deal with it later if need be. Keeping foreign information in his head is difficult, and takes a bit of time. Thus far, the limitation of the range of his power is that he must be within about 20 ft. of the original data source and then within 20ft again of the location to which to the data is being moved. He can not store any computer data internally to be transferred for more than an hour. More than ten minutes may result in the data being incomplete, when moved to its new source. After about an hour, the data is simply lost entirely. Things work best when everything happens at once, and ‘point A’ and ‘point B’ are both reasonably close to him. Furthermore, if Kyle is in a particularly stressed or frazzled state, it will affect his ability to transfer complete and accurate data. These limitations are likely to alter as Kyle matures, and from practice. Fighting style (if any): None in particular. He can hold his own in a fist fight, but you get someone with crazy ninja skills and he’s out of luck, unless he’s armed.
History of your character: Kyle Arac was adopted as an infant by a wealthy couple, Cameron and Paige Arac. He was raised by them along with two older adopted sisters in a normal sort of way. Everything was normal enough, aside from the fact that the oldest child of the family was a mutant, who attracted a great deal of attention. People began to talk, and word of her spread wildly. The sister, Reagan, was sent to Xavier’s institute when she was seventeen. Kyle was seven at the time. With Reagan gone, the people who had circulated news of her turned their attention to the other Arac children. The middle child was discovered to be human and quickly ignored. However, when Kyle was investigated through a number of rather underhanded means, something of great interest was discovered. Kyle, at about the age of ten, was discovered to have an active x gene, but no mutation. Talk of Kyle’s undesignated x gene was spread to everyone who found such things of interest, many or most of who were less than honest people, with rather shady intentions.
At the age of thirteen, Kyle was kidnapped from his home by a group of people who believed they had use for him. His parents and sisters searched for him for a very long time, but he was never found. Kyle’s captors attempted to discover a way to designate a mutation for him, but Kyle’s mutation designated itself on its own. He made many attempts to escape from his captors, which resulted in most of the scars he currently has. Kyle’s memory of his life before being abducted began gradually dimming until he could no longer remember his life before. It is uncertain if this is a result of his mutation, an effect of time, or a combination of the two.
Over the years, Kyle became more of a business partner, rather than a captive slave to those who had taken him. He has developed what some might consider a twisted sense of self preservation, and his one style of independence which his captors/business partners consider impertinent. The uncertainty of his cooperation cost them a great deal.
Sample RP:
Kyle Arac sat reclined, with his feet up on the edge of the desk in the room, one ankle crossed carelessly over the other. A middle-aged man of some size was ranting at him for a ‘failed performance’ on a job Kyle had simply neglected to do. The man was fuming mad. Kyle looked bored.
“Too late now, Eckman. What I hear tell your target’s on his way to Australia right about now.” Kyle spoke, barely bothering to look up at his audience, “That’s a 14 hour flight. Bit beyond my range… but if you wanted to send me on vacation…” The man called Eckman slapped Kyle’s feet off the corner of the desk and uttered a string of profanity that his eighteen-year-old audience was not unaccustomed to. Then Eckman pulled out a gun. The end of the barrel pressed against Kyle’s forehead. The metal was cold.
“I should kill you for this. You know how important that information was.” Eckman said, looking a bit twitchy.
Kyle had flinched, but recovered almost instantly, “Put it away. You’ve got no use for it.” He was much too calm for a man with a gun to his head, but it wasn’t as if he hadn’t had a gun to his head before. Kyle smirked, “You’re not going to put a bullet in this brain. It’s too valuable to you. Face it, you’d be screwed without me.” Eckman wasn’t going to shoot him. Kyle knew that. He didn’t have the guts.
-------------
Weeks later…
The police had kicked the door in and ended up in a gunfight with the man called Eckman, and a few other of the men who worked with him. Kyle had been in the room, but being that he was unarmed and leaning against one of the walls, posing no threat, they had neglected to kill him. When Eckman and the others had fallen, the police found a wide-eyed and frightened teen looking rather helpless. Kyle hadn’t been scared like that in a long time. They took him into custody.
After weeks of questioning, and a trial in which most of the legal officials weren’t quite sure what was going on, he was found innocent of… well, of anything. Kyle was released.
As he walked out of the court house, he knew exactly what his first action as a ‘free man’ would be; to get the hell out of dodge.
