The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She'd been a student for... what, three days now? She'd had a few classes now and was entirely in over her head. After she had been able to talk to someone about her previous experience with education, or lack there of, she had been given a slightly altered class schedule for the rest of the year. Thankfully, they hadn't been cruel enough to flat out send her into learn things with the kids, and instead she was supposed to meet with a few of the instructors for check-in's and such a couple of times a week.
She was also supposed to find a classmate to study with, but figured she could probably just bother Xavier with that if she needed too.
Was it so wrong that she wanted to try things herself first? Even if most of the questions on her most recent round of homework made her want to bang her head against something for a while.
Those particular questions were what had brought her to the Library of all places, on a particularly calm day after classes were over. She didn't live at the school, so she'd stopped by to find study materials before heading home.
And... here she was. Standing next to a table piled high with books, flipping through one that had to do with the history of Europe of all things, wondering if a bottle of wine would help or hinder with the painful absorption of knowledge. Maybe if she got drunk enough she could read everything and it would stick in there, like people who learned languages while asleep.
"Huh... never knew there were 50 countries in Europe." That book was snapped shut and tossed gently onto a growing pile of things she didn't think she'd need. If she hadn't scored so low on her math and social studies placement tests she probably wouldn't have needed to try and find extra study materials... but her scores had been absolutely dismal. The poor lady who'd checked over her work had done a double take and asked how old she was again, which had been more than a little embarrassing.
Thanks, Mom.
Luckily for her the big ole library that Xavier had shown her had thousands of books, and quite a few of them looked like what she needed. How the hell she was going to carry them all home without looking like a dork was beyond her, but hey, at least she didn't have to worry about the weight. It had taken an insanely long time tracking them all down though.... what time even was it now?
She checked her phone for the time, before picking up the next book in her pile.
It was Sixty Shades of Silver.
"Hah, forgot about that one." She leaned against her table and flipped it open to a random page to start reading.
Cait couldn't really remember the last time she had actually been in a library. She definitely avoided it when she was at school and after that, she'd never needed one with her line of work. And with her line of other work, as much as the others might have wished she was a bit better at the whole research thing.
It just, well it was just kind of boring to her, just sitting and reading. She'd definitely rather be playing and practicing than struggling through some dry door stopper.
Still, part of her wanted to learn as much as she could about this world for when she finally managed to find a way back and there were fewer places better to learn history than a place like this. Shame she was kind of bad at her own universes history, so spotting differences was next to impossible but she was at least gleaning some useful things.
Like the fact most of the history of her homeland was broadly the same. Maybe some different town names, battles in slightly changed locations and some really weird name differences in the legends but it did seem nearly identical.
Slowly browsing her way through some truly mind numbing books she decided to go for one more interesting, maybe some of the old myths she'd been taught as a kid. Those might be cool, or she would have gotten to them if she hadn't been interrupted from her thoughts by the sight of, well a very attractive girl, looking very bored and very lonesome.
Yeah maybe the library wasn't all bad.
Approaching slowly she vaguely recognised the books title, wondering if it was similar to her worlds one. If it was.....well that was interesting. Raising her voice, "Now that seems like an odd choice for study, although if that is assigned reading I do want to know what you study."
It was kinda funny how a glorified and badly written fanfiction that didn't understand the audience it was trying to cater to at all had still managed to become so popular to an entirely different audience of people. The book was amusing at least, in the same kinda way that other car wrecks of fiction could be entertaining. She snorted as she turned another page. "To the butt room, huh?"
A voice brought her out of her own thoughts, and if she had been any other person she might have been a little ashamed to be caught reading what was basically smut in a school library. Not Juniper, though! It wasn't her fault she'd found it on one of the shelves.
She grinned slyly at the attractive redhead who had appeared, and casually flipped to another page in her book. "It's not assigned reading, unfortunately.... but for my own personal studies it does have some merit."
She snapped the book shut a moment later after spying something about a riding crop and had to physically restrain herself from rolling her eyes. Ugh. Amateurs.
"Maybe I should consider starting a club if i'm not the only one interested in these kinds of things. Though... I do have better material at home to read."
She set the book aside and tucked her hands away in the pockets of her hoodie, glancing back to her hoard of books piled up on the table behind her. Now that was something to be embarrassed about.
She promptly turned her attention back to the girl. "I'm Juniper... i'm kinda new here."
OK, this girl was fun. And clearly not shy when it came to certain topics if she rolled with the joke. Even doubled down on reading what amounted to porn if Cait was remembering right. "I wouldn't know to be honest, but then I always was a girl who learnt better at the practical applications. Theory was a bit dry for me," she replied with a sly smile.
"I'm sure you do dear, you don't strike me as someone shy about your interests but that kind of club I think they may be a wee bit shy about having around. Fun though." Sitting down at the table instead of waiting for an invitation she appraised the girl a little more closely now that she was closer. Cait reckoned she was a little younger than herself, not by much but noticeable to the Scot. Interesting eyes though, there looked to be promises of mischief there which was half a good excuse to hang around than any.
The not so subtle references made up the other fifty percent.
Now that was a new name for Cait. People named after various pretty flowers she had heard but not that one. "Pleasure to meet you, I'm Caitriona. Cait to my friends."
Catching the glance at the books she leaned over to inspect some of the spines. No wonder the girl got distracted by something more fun that was some damn dry reading for one day, no way she'd be able to stay awake if she was the one slogging through them. "European history? No wonder you want to read something a little more stimulating that gets boring real quick."
Her eyebrows popped up a little bit. 'Practical applications'? That sounded saucy.
"Ah, what a bummer. I was already trying to come up with neat club names too." Her smile was a little lopsided, and there was definitely mischief hidden behind it. Caitriona was a name she hadn't hear before, but then again most of the names from her home town were something horribly cliche, like Bob or Darrel, or completely hippy nonsense. Juniper included. "That's a really beautiful name you've got yourself, Caitriona."
She sighed dramatically at the stack of books the pretty redhead was inspecting, humming in agreement as she lifted a leg onto the table and tucked it under the other. "Tell me about it. I can only read so many diatribes about fat old oligarchs before I want to take a long nap." She nudged one of the piles with her knee, "Thankfully this growing mess is books I don't need, rather than ones I do. I'd much rather be doing other stimulating things than sitting here trying to cram all those words in my head."
And man, could she think of a lot more things to be doing other than reading right now, especially with a pretty lady to talk to. "I much prefer the Sylvia Night stuff though. You know, like 'Mistress Revealed', or 'Interlaced with you'."
Respond to the grin with one of her own, she nodded, accepting the compliment gracefully and with no blushing at all. For once. "Well thank you dear, I am pretty fond of it myself. I do have to say I love yours as well, definitely my favourite berry. Especially with it's history as a fantastic enhancer to certain drinks." Yeah, sometimes stereotypes were true. Cait enjoyed a good drink and there were really good gins to be had.
"Thank god for that because as someone who had to suffer through family lectures on Scottish history, it gets old quick. Round about the third King James in a row is when I usually tune out." The stimulating line did not pass her by either, because this girl was clearly flirting back.
Slyvia Night? Now those she had never heard of. Sounded very interesting from the titles and she'd probably indulged in someone similar when she was younger. "Doesn't sound familiar but I've only really been reading books over here for a wee bit. Don't recognise all the parallels."
"They do sound fascinating though, maybe you'll have to introduce me to them some time." Yeah Cait. Subtle. Real subtle.
"Right?! Rhubarb and Strawberry is probably my favorite flavored Gin."
Juniper snorted at Cait's joke, picking up a different book to thumb through it absently. "Oh, don't tempt me. I could probably quote some of the spicier lines by heart at this point."
Actually, maybe she would! Hopping down from her seat she cleared her throat a bit. She'd never been in theater or anything, so her rendition of the scene she was remembering was definitely more comedic that is had been in the actual book, but... whatever.
She adopted what she hoped came across as a sensual man's tone and attempted to throw her hair back like she was Fabio in the wind. "Whatever is in your head, it's wrong, Eve..."
She shifted tones and stances into something that might seem more sexy and female, which wasn't that hard seeing as she was, well, female.
"You just want my blood, Vincent! You can't fool me with your ripped abs and chiseled jaw!"
Back to the masculine persona, and she pretended to grab someone and dip them. "No! This is all about you, Eve, not your blood! It's your body that makes me so hot!"
She bowed slightly, "End scene. See? Super cheesy. So many saucy descriptions, though."
She moved to pick a book back up and paused. Wait, what had she meant by 'over here'?
"Did you just move over here or something? I'd have figured you could find books like that a dime a dozen practically anywhere."
