Character's real name: Sadako Takumi Codename/Alias: Shogun
Gender: Male Age: 36 Nationality/Ethnicity: Japanese Birthplace: Hamano, a small coastal town in Japan. Personality: Shogun likes to keep himself, to himself. He doesn’t care about anyone that isn’t a family member, though those that he does care about he will defend with his life. He doesn’t go out to make friends; in fact, he has no friends, and that’s just the way he likes it. He also doesn’t like to give out his name to many people, and so is rarely known as more than Shogun. Notes (Hobbies, Phobias, Worries, etc.): He keeps various weapons in his house, and is an expert at wielding all of them, especially his swords. After his swords, his favourite weapon is the longbow, and he is a master at archery. He spends almost all of his spare time practising with his weaponry, and is a great samurai. He always has at least one weapon on him, normally his dagger Hasoku when he can’t have his rather obvious swords.
Allegiance (Good, Bad, or Neutral): Neutral
Everyday clothing: He wears a silk kimono, which is what appears to be a jacket that ties on the outside and inside, and a skirt that falls to his feet and is just above the floor. These are both coloured green. He wears white Tabi on his feet, which are ankle high socks with a separation between the big toe and the rest of the toes. This allows for sandals to be worn as well, and he does wear Zori, which are essentially straw flip-flops. He always has a blindfold around his eyes. He will wear this whenever he's not likely to be in danger, i.e. when not sparring/training/fighting. Uniform (Optional. Required if eventually becoming part of the X-Men): He has a set of golden samurai armour given to him by Hunter Antonescu. The mask has no eye or mouth holes, and the armour has a neat little trick. When turned on (switch located under gauntlet) it will repel any metal through the use of a repulsion field. This renders him immune to all metal-based weaponry (bullets, swords etc) but means that a sharp stick will still get through (though it then has to try and bypass the armour itself). Pyjamas: He wears a pair of lightweight trousers.
Hair color and style: He has black hair that falls all the way down his back when untied, though he almost always has it done in a top-knot, which is hidden under his helmet when he is in his armour. Eye color: Unknown Height: 5’5” Build: He is stocky, with a strong build.
Scars: He has some minor scars from accidents during sparring and from contests. Tattoos: None. Piercings: None.
Description of ability(ies): He is entirely blind, and so always wears his blindfold. No one knows what is behind the blindfold; not even him (it’s not like he can look in a mirror). His powers counter-act this though, as he can sense life forms around him. This allows him to be able to recognise people as well as if he could see, and so functions like 360 degree vision. This allows him to make out people and animals up to fifty feet. When he senses a person, he sees into their soul, and so can detect emotions and intents. This makes him a good lie detector, because he can sense treachery. He can also pick up emotions, and sometimes themes if they are strong enough. He doesn't know alot about this side of his power, as he spends as little time around people as he can. He can also pick up more direct intents, and the closer someone is time-wise to doing something, the easier it is for him to sense it. So if someone decides to punch him five minutes before they do, he will sense something like bad intent toward him, and then it will gradually increase in hostility, until a second before they move he can tell exactly what they are going to do. Between 50 and 100 metres he can just make out that there is something living, so he can’t tell the difference between a group of people and a stand of small trees. This can only pick up living things though, so he cannot sense objects. He can, however, emit a psychic pulse that spreads outward from his head and bounces off of things, allowing him to use a kind of echo location to ‘see’ inanimate objects. Also, people's aura's 'rub off' onto objects that they use/affect, so for example his grandfather's knife has his grandfather's aura covering it, and Mondragon Labs are surrounded by Hunter's aura. This also works on people, but to a lesser extent. And because Shogun has had limited experience of using this side of his power (as in he has only ever noticed his grandfather's aura around the knife), this is the weakest side of his power. It is weak to the extent that unless the person is over a hundred, and unaffected by ageing (usually due to some sort of anti-ageing mutation) then their aura has grown and gained in strength, and so it can cling to things more strongly, and Shogun can actually sense it. In short, if someone is over a hundred and un-aged, then their aura's can rub off onto things/people and be sensed by Shogun. The exception to this is his grandfather. Because he lived and trained with his grandfather for practically all his life, he is especially sensitive to his particular aura, and so can sense it easier than any other.
He also has the marginally heightened senses that are common with normal blind people.
Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): He cannot make out colour; so he can’t read, and when looking at paintings will just be able to make out a blank canvas. This also means that he cannot see what is on a television screen or computer monitor. Also, because he has to consciously send out psychic pulses, non-living things can be his greatest obstacle, as he will have to focus on continually sending out pulse to insure he doesn’t trip over. The limited range is another weakness. Fighting style (if any): He is a powerful samurai, well practised in swordsmanship, and is able to use almost any weapon effectively, asides from more advanced weapons like guns, which he avoids using.
History of your character: Shogun was born in Hamano, which is a coastal village in Japan. He was blind from birth, and his parents were worried that he would bring shame on the family. They were going to get rid of him, when his grandfather stopped them. He explained that he could see great potential in the boy, and that he would take him under his wing. The grandfather was an old samurai, who also was a mutant, though none of the family knew it. His power was that he could detect other mutants; it wasn’t potential he saw, it was the active x-gene. Shogun’s mutation became apparent early in his life, as even when very young he would react to things as though he could see them. He didn’t understand the concept of sight, and it wasn’t until he was older that he began to understand that he was different, even from other blind people. His grandfather didn’t tell him much about his family, only that they were killed in an accident whilst his mother was pregnant, and that they were able to only save him and neither of parents. So Shogun grew up under the care of his grandfather, in his grandfather’s house that was located in the mountains near to Hamano. This was where his grandfather had always lived, and he rarely came down unless he had to, or if there was a family gathering such as at Shogun’s birth. One day, when Shogun was only 5 years old, he entered his grandfather’s study, and as he did so he sensed an extremely dark presence leaving. This has haunted his nightmares ever since, and he forever worries for the day when he meets this presence himself. When Shogun reached the age of ten, he had already taken to wearing a blindfold, and his grandfather gave him a gift. It was a two-foot sword, which was named Hasoku. He then began training with his grandfather, and it turned out that he was a natural with most weapons, especially with twin-swords or a long bow. When he reached 23, his grandfather finally passed away, and Shogun realised that he had nothing left to live for. He quickly crushed that thought, as he wanted to honour his grandfather’s memory by becoming the greatest samurai ever. He finally left the mountains, the first time that he had done so since he had been adopted by his grandfather as a baby. He still lived in the house, but would come down whenever he heard about an archery or swordsman contest. He lost many at first, but was determined and in a few years he had become a force to be reckoned with. He lives off of the money he makes in competitions, and has appeared on Japanese television, known only as Shogun-The Blind Samurai. He is now determined to become the greatest fighter ever, and is planning to soon move to try international tournaments.
Sample RP: “And now for the final, the man challenging our champion is Shogun, the blind samurai! Please could both fighters take up their positions!” Shogun stepped into the ring, and sensed the champion following suit. The champion was a large man, likely six and a half foot, and drew a weapon. A quick pulse indicated that it was a fittingly large blade, could probably cause a lot of damage with that. How much must that thing weigh? Not important, what’s important is that he keeps focus. That blade could probably kill him, regardless of tournament rules. Not a time for slip-ups. Shogun drew his two blades, one four and a half feet in length, one three feet long. He sensed what the champion would do just before it happened, and Shogun easily dodged the slow moving lunge. A quick swing with the short sword sliced at his opponent’s leg, drawing a small amount of blood. Shame that the competition required for blood from the torso. Fortunately, his opponent seemed to disdain armour, and only wore light leather across his chest. That should be no problem to slice through, provided he could get a decent opening. The blade swung down at him, and it took all of Shogun’s skill to avoid it. A quick roll to the side was his only option, but it left him on the floor, further increasing his opponent’s considerable height advantage. The blade come crashing down again, and Shogun knew that blocking would be pointless. A blade like that could break both of his swords. Shogun sidestepped, and a pulse informed him that his opponent had actually stuck his blade into the ground. Shogun was not about to waste this opportunity, and he lunged straight for his opponent’s torso. The opponent brought up a bare arm to block, but he didn’t realise how sharp Shoguns swords are. The sword went straight through the arm, leaving only a bloody stump in its place. The official called a timeout, but before the paramedics could do anything the opponent had bodily flung himself at Shogun in a fury. Despite only having one arm and no weapon, he outweighed Shogun by a considerable amount, and Shogun was hard pressed to not be crushed under the huge fighter. Shogun was forced to keep moving back wards, and he saw that he would soon be against the wall. Then he would be in trouble. He swung out at his opponent, and severed the remaining hand. Shogun only foresaw just ahead of time what his opponent would do; it wasn’t enough to save himself. The fighter sent him flying with a smack from his stump, and Shogun smacked against the wall. His armour saved him, but his opponent wasn’t waiting for him to get back up. Despite his injuries, he charged like a bull at Shogun, and Shogun’s only choice was to bring his swords up. The opponent ignored them, but that was his mistake, as he went straight into them. They went through his heart, killing him instantly, but Shogun was still caught under the incredible weight. The officials finally got their act together, and dragged the opponent off of Shogun. Fortunately, the tournament rules meant that the killing was justified, so Shogun wasn’t about to face the police. He accepted his prize money, and after a short interview which finished with him threatening the interviewer to get out of his way or face the business end of Shogun’s weapons, he began to long trek back into the mountains, and his home.
