The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn continued throwing, mind calculating as she went. The weapon moved higher into the target, each attempt having better results. Throw, adjust. Throw, adjust. If she had actual calculations she may have been able to work faster, but she felt she was processing in a good direction. Although, her arm was feeling more tired with each throw. Clearly, her body was not in sync with her brain.
Sam seemed calm about the whole procedure, but the echoes could sense some surprise when she looked sideways. There were tiny clues a person could give when their thoughts wandered: a pause, a slight clench in their jaw, a distracted moment. Sam was very well trained, but it was hard to fight against a mutation like hers. She wasn’t strong, or fast, just perceptive in the least opportune ways.
Sam asked about her experience with mercenaries and it was Evelyn’s turn to pause. She liked Jude, and felt taking her along had been a gesture of trust she would not betray. While Sam seemed promising as a friend, it was not in the same way she saw the other mercenaries. She had a change to be regarded as an equal, at least with the young leader. Sam had more potential as a parental figure, and that meant doing what you often did to parents: kept things to yourself.
”What I know about things is a very broad question,” she considered, tossing one of the sai in her hands and catching it. A little sloppy but there must be a certain point in the rotation to grab. If these were sharpened she would need to always plan for that. ”I know people opporate on different sides of the law. From my own findings, law is a very grey value. Every person has light and dark, angels and demons. Whose to say which really is the right side?” she took the philosophical side to it, while avoiding answering directly. It was her way of saying there were people she may side with that some may consider “bad”. But she was nothing if not a dangerous neutral with a powerful mind.

The now young icemancer raised his eyebrows with a smirk. ”Nice dodge of the question.” he too had secrets and if she didn’t want to elaborate he wasn’t going to push her for further answers. No, if she wanted to give information he’d take it but pressing the issue made things more awkward speaking from experience, and the last thing he wanted to do is get questions he didn’t want to talk about.
”Everyone has a reason for doing something. Sometimes it’s as simple as survival, I wasn’t trying to pry. You don’t want to tell me that’s’ fine. But don’t pretend I don’t know how to dodge a question.” he smirked, ” I’m the king of dodging questions. "Next time just say a book.” he already knew she didn’t like reading those sorts of books but it was a better response he deemed. Sam was of the same mindset, heck apparently he had a vigilante team when he was older. He was told not to contact those people, he didn’t know why but was sure he had a good reason so he didn’t look into their files.
”Stuff like this is fine but, kids should have time to be kids. Don’t worry about angles and demons.” he said with a shrug. It was a core belief of his. No one should be kidnapped in the dead of night and forced to become an attack dog like he had. He never got a chance to figure out what was right and wrong until one day he knew that wasn’t who he wanted to be. He just knew he didn’t want to hurt people like that anymore. ”And you’re slowing down.” Sam said pointing to her flipping hand. ”You stalling half-pint?” he asked with a smirk.

Deflecting his question was revealing in its own way. Sam saw through the efforts and even called her on it. While Evelyn may have been annoyed if another adult had done this, she took it as advice coming from Sam. He was more like her than some of the other teachers. Like Jude, she saw the little scraps of darkness and felt drawn to them like a magnet. She wanted to be with people who understood not everyone was good, and not everyone wanted to be good. Evelyn didn't want to hurt people, necessarily, but she had no false illusions that everyone deserved her assistance.
She met his gaze and shrugged her shoulders. She made no excuses for what she did, and would never apologize. "I'm sure I'll read a lot more books. They just won't always be ones I want to share with you. Unless they were on the same team, she would always keep a grain of distance. Evelyn picked her allies carefully, even as a child. She knew enough to be cautious who she really let close.
Then he hit a nerve. Kids. Evelyn frowned and turned back to him instead of facing the target. "What's the point of doing kids stuff? It's just a waste of time. If I watch an hour of television, do you know how many times I might relive that same hour? There is no limit. If I don't know how a movie is going to turn out, then why would I subject my mind to the torment not just once, but multiple times. And what else would I do? Play? No one wants to play with a girl who makes them hear voices in their head." Evelyn shot him a look and threw the sai with force, not even facing the target this time. Between the echoes and the frustration, it managed to the forehead of one of the monsters in a dead-kill shot. Her eyes were silver again, her expression dark.
"I worry because I'm not just making one choice now, I'm making it forever. If you knew any memory you had could come back to life anytime you shut your eyes, would you risk it on something stupid? It's not just remembering. It's reliving. Same day, over and over." She threw another sai and it slammed next to the first. "Repetition, repeat. Restart."

”Nor should you, I’m not your dad or your brother kid. I’m just me. I would never ask you to share everything. Nor should you expect the same from me.” Sam said with a shrug and apologetic hands. He was over exaggerating his hands to diffuse the situation.
”Preaching to the choir. It might not be as bad for me as you or it could be worse. I relive certain days more than I want to. Things I wanted to change. Apparently it was so bad I was willing to forget everything. Maybe it’s a gift.” Sam said eyeing the target with the two sai’s in it. She seemed to work better when angry. Maybe she was more like Sam than either wanted to admit.
”Maybe, it’s not. But wouldn’t you want to remember things other than books, training?.” Sam formed an snow ball in his hands and tossed it at her underhand so it was easier to catch. ”One thing I will regret the rest of my life is never having time to be a kid.” Sam said then grabbing another knife and lobbing it towards the foot of another target.
”Just saying, it’s okay to enjoy life. If you want someone to play with, think of it this way. This was play time for me when I was younger. I’ll play, or I’ll teach you how to make the perfect snowball. I got nowhere to be.” Sam said, ”And if you’re gonna sandbag and hold back when we’re training I’m gonna increase the weight half-pint.” Sam said with a little smirk pointing to her target.

Sam was...different. Most adults would have expected her to be honest and forthcoming, but he was telling her secrets were okay. She respected him for that. The quickest way to cause rebellion in Evelyn was to treat her like a child, and the fastest was to respect her like an adult. She was willing to respect his boundaries because he accepted hers.
While he claimed he had his own memories he had to relive, she almost argued with him. She didn't feel anything was as bad as what her powers did to her, but she paused. She thought of the time she spent helping free Zaid, and what it had taken to get the boy to feel safe after the rescue. Would she ever tell that boy he didn't have memories to be afraid of? No, of course not. The strength of her powers made things vivid, but others had their own brand of torment they had to go through. "If even small memories cause me frustration, I can't imagine what a bad one would really do. I managed to forget everything from my last life, and most days I'm just relieved."
Evelyn caught the snowball, eyes blinking and blue taking over her irises as she held the cold sphere. She looked up at him, almost confused. "I...there have been things that have been fun. But, I don't...I don't play." She had seen other kids do it, watched snowball fights in the street during a big storm, or seen them kicking and splashing in rain puddles. Those were things her parents would not have tolerated. If you're smart enough to say things like you're do then your smart enough to behave better.. Even when she painted it looked like a diagram.
The moment burst when he commented on her target, and she twisted to look at it, making a face. "That's not fair. Muscle memory is one thing, muscle endurance is a something else!" With a frustrated growl she took the snowball and pitched it rather hard back at his head. "You're the one making snowballs!"

Sam nodded, again a blessing and a curse you lost the good and the bad. Young Sam was sure that the older version of himself had some positive experience in the ten years that was missing. Old Sam said he had found love and that he deserved it and new Sam deserved it. Young Sam didn’t think that way; in fact he didn’t think he’d still be alive in ten years let alone a few days from now.
Sam watched as she returned the snowball towards his face. Using his mutation he smirked and softened the snow so when it made contact it blew apart without hurting the icemancer. He over mocked wiping his face off then smirk followed by a chuckle. Good one! Maybe you played in you last life.”[/color] Willing another snowball to form he tossed it up and caught it.
Changing the density of the snow he managed to get it to start spinning on his finger. Every so often he spun it with his other hand. ”Everything can be related to training, or playing. All perspective. Sam said waving his hand like he was waiting for her to throw again. ”I am making snowballs, I’m the fun one.” he kept spinning till she started to throw. Quickly he changed the density into a soft snowball again and threw it at her side. Then Sam started to shrug like he didn’t do anything.

It was all about perspective, Sam said. Evelyn wondered if she even had the capacity to change her perspective. There were literal voices in her head reminding her when she was doing something wrong. She didn’t know how to relax, how to get the voices to believe in fun again. Maybe it was already too late for that. She was going to lose her mind in the long run, anyway.
Evelyn returned to her target practice, and hit one more bulls eye before the whoosh of movement distracted the echoes. The result was her body half twisted to acknowledge the snowball, and half followed momentum of her throw. The sai hit the ground with a clack and she looked at her shirt, now dusted with powder. ”I should have known you would be the type to take a cheap shot!” she accused. When the weapons returned, she picked up both this time, one arm poised at ready to deflect any side attack, the other used to attack the fake monsters. Divided, the echoes had to work harder, but she didn’t miss this time.
”Did you know that people have died from snowball injuries? And a significant number are hurt when hit in the eye especially? Kids try to make snowballs, rocks get mixed in. It’s an easy recipe for a disaster.” she hit the target again and glanced at Sam, eyes focused.

Sam smirked when she got hit and said he was the type to take cheap shots. Cheap shots to Sam also meant fighting dirty and he was going to win a fight if his life was on the line. Now however he was just trying to pester a little girl who was training, trying to get her to have a little fun.
”So is walking on the ice.” Sam said as he lobbed another soft snowball at her. ”Great hit.” he said acknowledging the target. ”You always gonna be standing still when aiming like that? You can start to move if you want.” Sam asked pointing to the ground and forming a few big piles of snow. All of which were rock free.
”And that’s what the safety glasses were for Eve.” he jested, ”Safety.” he waved his hand and formed a blade of ice and launched it into the hip of one of the targets. The blade stuck. Sam waited to throw another snowball that was defiantly rock free at Eve when she got ready for another throw.

Evelyn was finding it harder to concentrate, but she would never admit that to Sam. Moving, throwing, avoiding behind hit. This went from an experiment to build accuracy and had morphed into an obstacle course. The flip side was that Sam had secretly hit on what she craved. Praise. Rather than looking annoyed, the compliment flipped a switch and she almost smiled. There was a little light that reached her eyes, and the next throw hit it's mark.
"Yeah, these glasses suck, by the way. I think I'm more likely to hurt myself try to see with these fancy beer goggles than if your little snowball actually hit me in the face," she managed to deflect one of the incoming balls with the sai, pairing the momentum from defense to help throw the new attack. It hit low on the target, but stuck, and was successful enough she was surprised by it. Could she do that again? She was trying to work out how to repeat the volley when her foot went into a little hill of snow.
"Eeeeeeek!" The little girlish squeak of surprise escaped as she toppled backward and landed on her bottom in the snow. Her safety goggles slid sideways, and both weapons reappeared neatly on the floor beside her. Instead of reaching for the sai, she scooped up a handful of snow and crammed it into a clunky little snowball before pitching it at him. "That was cooooold!" She protested. Forget the fact making the snowball managed to make her hands even colder. It proved a point, said what she wanted and...was that a smile? She scooped up one more handful of snow, squished it into shape and chunked this one too. A little noise escaped her throat and a cold hand went across her mouth. Was she laughing?
Oh. This...was fun. She felt a little cold from using her hands, but it hadn't mattered at the time. She hadn't used logic in those moments, hadn't listened to the echoes. She just...laughed.

When she started to laugh Sam mocked a bow dodging a snowball then pivoting dodged the other. ”It’s supposed to be cold. And be glad I didn’t put night vision goggles on the table. You’d be wearing a helmet.” Sam said as he ran over to a table and grabbed a knife and ran towards a snow hill near Eve. He jumped and threw the knife and rolled into the snow hill. His body iced over and he became blue.
Putting to his back to the snow hill he held up a fist for Eve to hold. He then pointed to the sais near her and then motioned to move towards the target. Sam then mouthed the hand gestured and read aloud. ”Go! I’ll cover.” Just then Sam added to his ice body armor with a thin layer of mist erupting towards his body.
Sam stood sending the mist outward and he threw a few snowballs towards the targets instead of pointy weapons just in case Eve ran by. Safety first. It was a slight change up from when he trained as a child. Instead of real people from other factions and live ammunition it was motionless targets and snowballs. It was at that moment Sam started enjoy his old life. If this was teaching he was in for it.

Sam moved into action, taking what could only be described as an ice form before appearing next to her. The echoes knew what he was trying to say, but that didn't mean she was happy about it. He wanted her to run toward the target this time, instead of standing still?
A side of her wanted to backtalk, wondering how ridiculous she would look sliding across snow and ice. But..she would never be able to fight or train with Sam if she was so easily deterred by a little cold. She wanted to keep learning, right? That meant listening to what she was told, even if it seemed silly. So, she jumped over the hill, scooping up her weapons and moving for the targets.
The echoes found it harder to dodge the attacks coming behind her. Sam wasn't intentionally aiming for her so she wasn't afraid, necessarily, but it was unnerving not being able to accurately dodge. First one sai then the other hit a target. Even with all the movement and snow, she made her marks. The weapons reappeared further along the room and she grabbed one, going for the final throw. None of the snowballs hit her, but she slid a little and squealed as she fell back into a snow bank.
She giggled. She laughed and that was a sign that training was over. She shivered slightly, clothes somewhat damp now. "Next time, remind me to bring a j-jacket." She complained goodhearted. Wrapping her arms around her body she waited for Sam to stop the simulation. She was cold, she was happy, but she was done.

The former assassin was happy to see that she Eve was enjoying herself. She from what he could tell from the first encounter didn’t enjoy doing anything that kids would do. She didn’t even want to be associated as one. However, in the time he got her into the danger room she seemed to do a 180.
If he had filmed the stunt it would look super cool in slow motion with small explosions going off where the snow piles would be. She giggled and then she mentioned next time. ”Next time?” Sam raised an eyebrow. While he would become a teacher one day he wasn’t one. Sam didn’t expect she wanted to come back after he started throwing snowballs at her.
Sam folded his arms and frowned looking at his first and only potential student. ”Hmmmmm….” he then shrugged and nodded his head, ”I guess we can start you under my teachings.” he put his hand to his chin and pretended to stroke long beard that slowly formed in snow. ”I demand discipline, and an open mind and of course an imagination.” snapping his fingers and releasing the hold on all the snow it slowly fell apart including the one on his face.
Brushing the snow from his face he added, ”Safety first alright? Second, try to relate fun to training. Trust me,” he said summing up his life. ”It makes training fun, and it encourages you to try and find fun in the everyday.”

Despite the slight shivering Evelyn took what Sam was saying very seriously. It was hard to stay still when her clothes still felt cold, but she wanted to be a good student. She didn’t want him to change his mind. Her eyes lit up when he said he’s keep reaching her, and she nodded quickly, trying to look serious, open minded!
Uh, fun would be more challenging, but she finally nodded to that too. ”Those are reasonable terms.” she concluded. She shifted on her foot, the echoes taking note of the disappearing simulation and also, she was pretty certain her shoes were wet now.
”C....can I go warm up now, Sam? My shoes got soggy. Not to complain, or anything, but... it’s kinda cold..”

Sam nodded and smirked, ”Better get used to it. I’m the coolest teacher there will ever be.” he waved her forward to the door. ”Next time you want a lesson come find me and I’ll try to pencil you in.” he had no schedule, Old Sam was the one who was busy he had a life here. This Sam didn’t.
Once the door closed behind her Sam decided is was time for some training of his own.
