Certainly when they were older they did, and if they were talking about an older kid doing those things then they meant to keep Kalos, warts and all. What had Gawain said? Big sister or aunt? They thought she'd be a good example? Kalos peeked a watery and tentative eye through her arms at Gawain.

Rebecca needed to be very conscious of Kalos's feelings. If the girl had a home with them, she was part of their family. If Becca was going to have a baby, they weren't starting a family, they were adding to it. Kalos was observant, even if she was not well-versed in the complications of everyday life. Becca would watch her language, because anything that Kalos might leave Kalos thinking she was not valid and loved had no place in it.
"Ah loch th' idea ay ye as a big sister," she agreed proudly. "Our family's growin' a wee bit bigger, Kalos. Ah promise 'at's a good thing. Th' kind ay thing we coods celebrate together. Maybe wi' chocolate cake, e'en." Okay, maybe she was laying down her bribe game a little thick, but why not offer up what she knew to be Kalos's favorite?
Gawain sighed and smiled a little, hugging the coral girl closer. This must have been very confusing for her, and maybe even scary. But she would come around to the idea. So far, Mirror had been treating Kalos as a little sister or younger sibling, but in the end, taking care of her had been as much a parenting task as anything.
"You'll make an amazing big sister."
