Zaid looked sheepish when he realized his mistake. Having never owned a dog, he had not realized one word posed so much danger. Leaving the unhappy looking dog behind, he snuck out behind Jude and gratefully took back his shoes. He was grateful he didn't wear anything with complicated laces he had to do up again.
He caught a glimpse of Jude trying to clean his mouth of the fur and laughed, torn between amusement and pity. At the threshold, there was the awkward pause that came when saying goodbye, but this time he wasn't so nervous about it.
Would he want to go out again? Zaid smiled, and leaned over, making his thoughts on that clear with a kiss. There was something playful about the action, inviting the chase that came with the early stages of dating. "Definitely. Although, maybe next time we should have you pick up a different mutation or try something indoors. You're cuter without the earmuffs," he teased.
With a wave, he slipped out the door and hurried back toward his own house. It could have been his imagination, but he was certain he felt nice and comfortable the whole way there. The air was cold, but he was pleasantly warm.
