The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena was super glad that most of her friends had just accepted the fact that they were going to be flying tackle hugged seemingly at random just by virtue of being around her. It probably helped when a bunch of them were X-men and therefore had ninja reflexes to not be bowled over by the hugs like an errant pin on a lane.
"I. Would love to hear it sometime. I definitely owe Becca some teasing once I've apologised for vanishing." She admitted, a giddy grin plastered across her lips. There was something really special and awesome about two of her friends both being together and seemingly really happy. She was more than happy to carry on this train of thought and drag some details out of May-
Serena's smile abruptly shifted. Her face became much straighter, anger threatening to creep in at her mind. "No." She paused and took in a breath. "No, not right now. Not for the foreseeable future."
>>"I. Would love to hear it sometime. I definitely owe Becca some teasing once I've apologised for vanishing."
"She'll enjoy telling it to you" Maya confirmed. A lot of what happened had made it into Becca's ViewTube channel videos anyway, but it was a good story to tell to a friend. And hopefully would continue to be good forever and ever. But Maya was not going to go into that right now; Serena was back in town for some reason, and even if it was a lot of good reasons and one bad, she'd rather not put her foot in her mouth right away.
>>"No. No, not right now. Not for the foreseeable future."
"Oh. Um... well then. I didn't mean to kill the mood." she admitted a little sheepishly. "Is there something you wanna talk about, or should we just conveniently change topics?"
Serena was now even more excited to see Rebecca after such a long time away from her friends. She really did hope that Becca didn't chew her out too much for vanishing, but she did recall Rebecca taking a long break from the US for a couple of years, so hopefully at the very least she understood why Serena needed to take some time and space. "I'm looking forwards to it~"
She sighed, taking a moment to gather some thoughts. Her hand felt a little strained. Oh. It was balled into a fist. She conciously relaxed her hand and then forced a smile back onto her lips. "It's okay, it's not your fault." And it's not mine either, is it? She thought to herself.
"There is something to talk about, but I'm not ready to discuss it yet." She'd actually thought about calling Ami several times since she got back into the city but always distracted herself with other things like her sister and cleaning, and now her friend and the X-men. Besides, if she didn't pick up before, why would she now?
So, something did happen. Or rather, not happen, from the looks of it. Maya thought Serena deserved a good relationship, and the fact that she seemed very tense about the topic meant that something had gone wrong with the last one. If it was a relationship at all. She offered to talk about it, but left space for her friend to say no, in case she was not ready.
>>"There is something to talk about, but I'm not ready to discuss it yet."
"Alright, that's okay" Maya nodded "If you ever want to, you know where to find me. And I do have some cool training programs in the DR for working through emotional stuff. Win win for the training, right?" she added with a smile "I'm happy you're back, Serena. Welcome home."
Serena would be ready to deal with it at some point, she hoped. Maybe she just needed the right person to talk it through with. It definitely wasn't her sister, and it apparently wasn't Maya. They didn't have that sort of friendship evidently. Or maybe the two of them just hadn't hung out enough yet? They did only meet because Sam took both of them to a gruesome crime scene.
"Thank you for understanding." She replied honestly. She was glad Maya wasn't pushing, she did know of some people that likely would. "Thanks, may plan was honestly just to go and give Sam a good shake so I had something to punch, but I guess I can maim training programs without holding back." She admitted. That was definitely the advantage of the danger room, she couldn't eviscerate something that wasn't real.
She felt a warmth spread through her body once again. "Thank you Maya, it means a lot. I'm happy I'm home too." She chirped.
"So... How does this work? Is it like cheer leading tryouts? Do I come and sign a contract?" She asked before adding with an amused eyebrow quirk. "Do I sign in blood?" Ha.
>>"Thanks, may plan was honestly just to go and give Sam a good shake so I had something to punch, but I guess I can maim training programs without holding back."
"I can totally put Sam in a training sim. I'm not saying I have, but..." Maya spread her hands with a shrug and a grin. Of course she had. Anything to cheer up a friend who needed some training to fix a wounded heart. And Serena deserved the support. She was going to join the team, and the thought made Maya feel giddy.
>>"Thank you Maya, it means a lot. I'm happy I'm home too. So... How does this work? Is it like cheer leading tryouts? Do I come and sign a contract? Do I sign in blood?"
"Yeah. And we take your soul at the end of seven years." Maya grinned folding her arms "Yes, there are tryouts, kinda. Trainees have to go through a test in the DR. It's up to you how confident you feel about all this, you can spend time as a trainee first, do some field missions, that kinda stuff. And even if you ace the test, you'll need training to learn to work with all of us and our powers."
Serena felt a playful grin spread across her face. She'd known Mirror and Sam to get into scuffles and solve some of their problems that way, it was of course logical that Mirror might do something like that with the danger room. Even if it was mostly in a playful manor. "Really, I think punching Sam in the face should be a widely used form of therapy." She jested. She did love Sam to absolute pieces, he was a truly good person that had done a lot of good. But he was also a mess, and had a very punch-able face at times.
She nodded, contemplating that for a moment. She supposed the training was tailored for recruits at all kinds of ages. From what she'd heard, Mirror probably got recruited at a young age, teens or as a young adult. She was sure that some of the others on the team must have trained and joined somewhat inexperienced. Serena was by no means a super hero, but she was pretty handy in a fight and had dealt with more than one serious crisis.
She quirked an amused eyebrow "I'd say I feel pretty confident." She mused. "I can keep up with Sam, mostly anyway, hand to hand, and power control wise it's pretty precise at this point. I practice daily." She admitted. "I understand, I'll go through whatever is needed. I've thought about this at length. It's what I want."
