The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Military service after high school. Right. Foreign students always came with their own set of plans and challenges, and as the daughter of an important diplomat, she would have a whole lot of attention on her, whatever she did. But even so, Maya could hardly picture Bubbles in the military.
>>"Umm... must serve IDF when graduate. Then, um, not sure. Would like be doctor; Abba like career officer. No decide yet."
"You've got time" Maya noted. But that would be a question, eventually. She could see a doctor, the way the girl was attentive and friendly, a lot more than an officer. But she had only met her a whole of 5 minutes before, so she reminded herself not to make snap judgments.
>>"No thought about use powers after school?"
"You've got time for that too. Just because you have powers doesn't mean you have to make a living from them... But it would be good to know what the military's opinion is of mutants..." she trailed off "Do you have any questions so far? About the school?"
Rivka chuckled "We small country. Have special unit for mutant, just like unit disabled. No turn away anyone want to serve. Can no afford to when neighbors all want destroy." She gave a 'that's just the way it is' shrug. Whether they could find a use for a bubble mutant had yet to be seen. The one plus of the conversation was that the girl was slowly becoming more willing to use her somewhat broken English talking about her home.
"How.... ah, school made?" she asked, her face twisted in concentration. It wasn't the right phrasing, she was sure of that. "Never saw mutant school?" she tried to clarify. If such a thing existed in her home country, she wasn't aware of it. Then again, there were a lot of things teens weren't aware of, not that they'd ever admit it.
"May ask... you power?" she inquired. She assumed that a school for mutants would be run by mutants. Rivka was naturally curious, though her tone of voice in asking the question had turned soft and shy again. Was it okay to ask such things in the States? Israeli's were very inquisitive and open about talking about things, but she'd found in her first few days in the United States that Americans seemed to be more private about their lives.
"Mutants" and "military" being in the same sentence, in any context, made Mirror instantly uneasy. Sure, there was no winning this thing either way - they either discriminated against mutants, or they used their powers to their advantage, but in the end, it was usually problematic. Thankfully, it was not an immediate concern for Bubbles.
>>"We small country. Have special unit for mutant, just like unit disabled. No turn away anyone want to serve. Can no afford to when neighbors all want destroy."
Maya nodded. She was not going to go into mutant philosophy right now.
>>"How.... ah, school made?... Never saw mutant school?"
"Oh. Um... well, the original school was founded by a mutant guy who... had some money, and wanted to help mutant kids. The Sister School started in the city when that other one was already full. It's a safe place, and for a lot of us the only place where we have a home. Some people come here even though they are not students. It's a safe haven more than anything."
>>"May ask... you power?"
Maya smiled a little.
"Well, I'm mostly a teleporter. I walk through mirrors." she explained, tapping on the mirror on her desk to merge into her reflection, only to appear a moment later from another mirror on the nearby desk. She had been placing those around the Mansion for easy access. "I can also walk into movies... but that's more complicated. Oh, and I change genders. On every other day, I'm a guy."
Rivka nodded thoughtfully as she was given a brief history of the school. One person with a vision; wasn't that how most good things got started? "Am glad school made" she offered with a smile. While part of her wished she was in Washington, having a school that was specific to her new, um, condition, seemed like a very good thing.
The teen got a big smile at the mirror walking, and let out a very genuine "Oh!" in amazement. Now that was an ability one could really use for something! Just think, no more taxi rides! Her dark eyebrows rose a bit more at being told Maya could also walk into movies. How that worked, and with what effect, she could only guess. She was, nonetheless, impressed.
But wait, there was more! Every other day... Maya was a guy?!? Rivka's head tilted slightly to the side, as she tried to work that out. 'How' collided with 'but what if' which tripped over 'but...then...' as the mechanics and general problems that this must cause just all became a jumbled mess inside her brain, and the only word she managed to utter was a very confused "ah...". It probably wasn't the first time Maya had gotten this reaction.
Rivka finally managed to snap herself out of it (somewhat) and said "Must be... un-convenient?" It would probably be some hours later before she began to process the relative opportunities this also afforded.
"You and me both" Maya smiled a genuine smile at the girl "It's a pretty great place. You'll see."
It was a good place to live in. It was home. In a way, the only home Maya had ever had.
She explained a little about her powers; they were fairly complicated at first glance, and the reaction she got was not exactly unexpected.
>>"Oh!... ah... Must be... un-convenient?"
Maya chuckled.
"You'll get used to it. They call me Gawain on guy days." the times when Mirror told people s/he had a twin were long gone. Inside the Mansion, anyway.
"So... any special requests? About your room, or roommate, or food, or anything? Anything that would make you feel more at home?"
"Umm... no suppose you have roommate speak Hebrew? Or Arabic?" she asked, with an expression that was both apologetic yet hopeful at the same time. Her Arabic wasn't as good as her Hebrew, but was considerably better than her English. It would sure make it easier if she could speak in a language she was good at, to even one person. Not being a language teacher, she didn't realize that being forced to talk the language all the time was helping her to make leaps and bounds in her use of English.
"I try eat Kosher?" said told Maya, again sounding apologetic. "Understand that New York pretty easy buy Kosher food? Can cook for self. Will get pan, need place to store. No can do classes Saturdays. Is Shabbat" she explained. She'd already gotten a little bit more flexible about eating out of necessity. Most stores and restaurants weren't Kosher unless they were in a very Jewish neighborhood. But she could still avoid blatant violations whenever possible.
"Abba, ah, 'father' probably have me go Washington once month he say, for weekend. Has friend here, help Rivka find Synagogue." So her father hadn't dumped her into a big city entirely without support, it appeared.
>>"Umm... no suppose you have roommate speak Hebrew? Or Arabic?"
"Um... I'll see what I can do" Maya nodded, making a note on the file. She was not sure if they had anyone, but if they did, it was not uncommon to shuffle roommates around. Especially if it made someone feel more at home.
>>"I try eat Kosher? Understand that New York pretty easy buy Kosher food? Can cook for self. Will get pan, need place to store. No can do classes Saturdays. Is Shabbat"
"Okay, we'll work with that. We don't usually have regular classes on Saturdays anyway." Maya nodded, making another note. Kosher might be tricky, but it could go on the shopping/supply list. "If you need a whole separate kitchenette, you might need to use one of the staff rooms."
The good thing about a mutant school: It was already prepared for all kinds of accommodations.
>>"Abba, ah, 'father' probably have me go Washington once month he say, for weekend. Has friend here, help Rivka find Synagogue."
"Sure." Maya nodded, and closed the file with a smile. "Let's go get you set up in a room, and we'll go from there. Welcome to Xavier's, Rivka."
