CharacterPersonality: Growing up, and into her early twenties, Lee always had a tendency to keep to herself; because of how her family had treated her, she didn’t believe anyone would want to be around her if she's constantly taking energy from them, so it was just emotionally less painful if she kept a distance from everyone in general. Music, and to a lesser degree reading, had been her refuge.
That changed when she met Tarin Brooks years ago. Despite her powers, Tarin almost constantly wanted to be with her, and over time Lee not only started to accept her powers more willingly, but also opened up more in general.
Despite how she tends to keep to herself, Lee can be very outgoing. She is also outspoken, rarely holding back what she thinks, and can have quite a temper when she gets angry at someone.
Hobbies/ Interests: Music, playing guitar, singing, reading
Job or part-time job and description: Mother. Another job isn’t necessarily needed with the leftover money working with Slate in the Kabal. But Lee likes to keep busy, so she's helping her sister open a clothing boutique, and managing the Trasheteria (a bar).
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Lee’s biggest fear/ concern through most of her life had been that she would hurt someone with her powers, that she would take too much energy. That fear has largely been dealt with, though there are still niggles of concern every so often.
Now, Lee’s biggest fear is that something will happen to her son, Kevin.
Special talents: (not related to mutation) playing guitar, singing
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral. Lee wants to help people, and has in the past both on her own and on a large scale in Colombia and Romania with the Kabal. It’s great, but not at the expense or risk to her family, so the last 5 years she’s been pretty much just keeping to herself.
MutationsMutation description: Power drain, super speed, super strength
Lee automatically siphons off a bit of energy from everyone she's around, which keeps her energy level up, but it's not normally enough from people for them to notice (at most, they'd feel a little tired after spending hours with her). But if she actually touches a person, she drains their energy at a faster rate (like a psychic vampire). If she drains the energy of a sleeping person, she has the ability to enter their dreams.
Strengths: This draining is where Lee gets her energy, and when she has an abundance of energy, it allows her to use her super speed and super strength (about twice a normal human). Lee has obtained a level of control over her draining where she can generally control how quickly she drains energy from people, turning the speed down to just a trickle (which is how she normally functions), but she can also turn it up to the point that she can touch an adult and drop them to the point of exhaustion in a matter of minutes.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Without having people around her to siphon energy from, Lee literally has NO energy. She gets no refreshment from sleep, and if there is no one close enough to siphon from overnight, she wakes up (only with an alarm) worse off than she had been before going to sleep. The opposite is also true when she has too much energy, Lee physically CANNOT sleep, and has on many occasions been awake for 60+ hours. However, despite the fact that her body doesn’t necessarily need the sleep, Lee’s brain does, and anytime she’s awake for too long (generally around the 72 hour mark) she physically crashes.
People radar
Lee feels her siphoning all the time, can feel the energy flowing into her, and can also feel the difference in energy levels between someone simply standing near her compared to touching her. Through training, both with Sam at the mansion and on her own, Lee developed what she calls “people radar”.
Strengths: At the moment, Lee is able to differentiate the energy level up to about 4 people, and where they are in relation to her (direction and distance up to about 10 feet away), though she still needs to focus for a second or two to really figure it out. And, as long as no one is really within 3-5 feet of her, even if she is in a crowd, Lee is able to feel when someone comes within a foot of her because of the drastic increase in energy.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Lee still has to think about it to be able to figure out where people are around her through her siphoning, it's not automatic, and not second nature, though she is getting better with it.
More than 3-4 people still throws her off and she can't exactly tell. Four people spread out around her, it feels like the energy is almost coming from everywhere, and if there are too many people in one place/direction, the energy coming at her could make her think they're closer than they are.
Thus, at the moment this power is useless in crowds, she doesn't even try using it, cause it's just too confusing to try and sort out. About the only of use in crowds is her ability to sense when someone comes really close to her, but even that goes out the window when in tightly packed crowds, like bars. Or often the streets of New York City. Energy blast (Approved 3 June 2009)
As Lee siphons, she gathers energy into her body, the more she siphons, the more energy that builds up. When she releases an energy blast, it shoots a wave of energy out in front of Lee, almost like a shock wave. The strength of the blast is completely dependent on how much energy Lee has.
Strengths: Lee is capable of gathering quite a bit of energy, so the blast has the potential of being quite strong.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Lee has no control over how much energy is released during the blast. The more energy that Lee has, the more energy is released in the blast. The blast drains Lee's energy so much that without doing more than her normal siphoning, she is tired and quite worn afterward. And with her drop in her energy level, Lee's speed and strength will also drop dramatically. Approved 11 Jan 2018
Lee is now actually able to stop her siphoning. At first, it will take concentration to achieve, but will eventually get to the point where it is simple decision to be made.
Pros: Now that Lee is able to shut off her siphoning, there is no reason for Lee to be up for days at a time nor for her to take energy from people when they really need it.
Cons: Despite being able to stop siphoning, Lee is still not able to produce her own energy, and is still dependant on siphoning in order to function. Lee is also unable to use her people radar when her siphoning is off.
Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: With doing minimal siphoning, Lee is simply your average 5’3” tall woman who is active but doesn’t lift weights. However, if she’s got more energy, Lee is able to use super speed and strength, which has in the past allowed her to throw a man 100 pounds heavier than her. Stamina, again, is completely dependant on the amount of energy she has, ranging from falling asleep she’s so exhausted to being unable to sleep for 60+ hours. Reflexes and flexibility are average.
Fighting Style: Most of Lee’s fighting “style” comes from simply her speed and strength that she can access. Though she has had some basic fighting/grappling training.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Pros - super speed and strength. Surprise. Cons - She is only 5’3” tall.
History Of Your CharacterLee was raised in Barrie, Ontario by her parents Mary and Dave Smith. She has one brother three years older named Robert “Bobby”, a sister named Rachel two years younger than her, and another brother five years younger named Doug.
Lee's powers first noticeably manifested themselves just before her 14th birthday. The first one she noticed was the strength, although she couldn’t really explain it since it wasn’t always there. It was about six months later when she started figuring out what was causing the extra strength. And it was only then that Lee realized something else that had slowly developed over the previous two years; her energy level always seemed to be at its peak when she was in a group of people for a decent length of time. At school, she would always have a ton of energy, but when she was at home doing homework her energy level would drop dramatically.
At first, Lee's parents thought that her powers were a weird medical condition since they were all very frequently very tired. And so they took her, and the rest of the family, to about a dozen doctors in the next year. But slowly they began to realize that it wasn’t medical, that there was something different about her.
By the time she was 15, Lee's family was all but shunning her, despite the fact that she was still living in the house. Her parents pulled her out of school so that people wouldn't find out about her being a mutant, and they all but refused to be in the same room as her. So, by her 16th birthday, Lee had run away from home and found herself living on the streets of Toronto.
While in Toronto for the next few years, Lee managed to pull things together, finding odd jobs, getting an apartment, and even finishing high school by correspondence.
But things didn't go so well in Toronto, and Lee ended up moving first to Windsor, and then finally making her way to New York. It was there that things changed almost beyond belief for Lee. Not only did New York feel more like home than anywhere else had since she was a child, but Lee also ran into a man named Tarin Brooks. And, despite her powers, Tarin still wanted to spend time with her, be around her. And very quickly she ended up falling in love with him.
By the time they had been together for 5 months, they were engaged, a really quick time period for most people, but things between her and Tarin had to move that quickly or they wouldn't have survived even the first week of their relationship.
Long story short, Lee got engaged, un-engaged, sent to the Mutant Concentration Camps, broke out, went back to Canada, came back to New York, got back together with Tarin, got engaged again, eloped in Las Vegas, joined the Kabal, went to Colombia, Romania,
died and was resurrected, came home, had a baby.
And then things started to change. It felt harder and harder to stay in New York, more dangerous to live as a mutant in the city, and that scared Lee as a mother. Pressures built, Lee ended up leaving the country and going back to Canada, which just put even more pressure on the relationship. Eventually, they ended up divorcing.
RoleplayWhat’s your OOC alias?: Jess
Where did you learn about this site?: An ad on another site many years ago, I think.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Currently active, no.
Sample RP:Lee hung up the phone and just stared at it. Her sister Rachel had been talking about opening up her own clothing boutique for the last couple of years. And to be honest, that wasn’t a bad idea, her designs were really very good. That’s why Lee had eventually said that she would help finance her dream. Of course, Rachel hadn’t believed her at first, why would she? Her sister had no idea about most of the things that Lee had done in New York, what she had done as part of the Kabal. And as a result, Rachel had no idea how they had been compensated.
But really?!? Lee had expected Rachel to open up her shop in Toronto, it was where she had gone to school, where she had been working for years. But no, of course, Rachel wasn’t doing it in Toronto. “Really, Rach, New York?” Lee asked of no one but herself, setting her phone down on the table beside her.
”New York? Am I going to go see daddy?”Lee’s head shot up, her eyes darting to Kevin. She hadn’t realized that her son had been close enough to hear her. “I’m not sure, honey,” Lee replied, then stood up. “Maybe. What do you want for dinner?”
