The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Chase was more than eager to help, and at this point, also quite capable of doing so. Many people had touched the dress before it was ready, but in the dressing room Gemma was close enough to cancel most of the effects out before they got out of hand. The dress was quite flowy, but not enough to be real trouble. She had done that the first time, this time, she went for elegance. Also, Maya made some important choices.
>>“I love the sparkles,”
"I do too" Gemma smiled, glancing at the light blue dress with the shining pearls all over. It glittered in the light like a fairy costume. Practical second time bride or not, it was still pretty. Gemma shrugged out of the rest of the mundane clothing she did not need, and with Chase's help, she wiggled into the dress. "I'm going to need your help zipping it up, and there are some buttons somewhere..."
It was a process, getting into shape; apart from the dress she had stockings and shoes and some jewelry, and she had to tie her hair up to look presentable. She asked Chase for help wherever she could, whether it was holding things, or handing her things, or checking how the end result looked.
"Can you run over and see how Jorge and Toby are doing?" she said finally, looking at herself in the mirror "I'm supposed to meet them in the office, I think, but it's hard to coordinate..."

Jorge
Oddly he wasn’t nervous. Jorge had never been married before. To be honest he had never really gotten that close to it either. He had dated and had a few long term relationships but the job always got in the way. His dedication to putting himself in harm’s way to ensure that no one else suffered tended to be a difficult aspect to look past. Jorge was a good man, through and through, but there are only so many times you can watch a good man slip on that bulletproof vest and step out the door. Only the strongest of souls can take a sight like that in stride.
Gemma. She was a strong soul. They had been through a lot together, the best of times and the absolute worst. And still, through all of it, they always found their way back to one another. It’s hard to ignore a sign like that. Jorge had found the woman he was supposed to be with, the person that meant more to him than he could have ever imagined. Through her, his family, and heart, grew and it was a gift that the watermancer was thankful for.
And now it was finally time to make their family a bit more permanent. It was just a paper. It was just a ceremony. But at the end of the day, it was what the both of them wanted.
His eyes drifted back to Toby as his bag with the cufflinks was handed to him. He gratefully accepted it and dipped his head to him before turning back to the mirror. His fingers worked deftly to placed the small, silver baubles into the wrist buttons of his shirt.
>>“When Ms. … Mama… marries you, will she take your last name…?”
”In a way,” he agreed. ”She’s going to use both hers and my last name.” He turned to face Toby. ”So she will be Gemma Taylor-Cervantes. That way she honors both her own family’s name as well as mine. Which is pretty cool.” He grinned. He then finished with the cufflinks, turned, and slipped on his jacket. After adjusted his tie, he stood in front of the boy, arms open in a display to show off his attire. ”How do I look?”
There was some fumbling, as Chase helped Mama reconcile the myriad of fasteners. Slender fingers gripped a zipper that was too small and carefully drew it before latching a hook-and-eye. Buttons were fastened with increasing deftness. Chase did his best to contain his excitement. Most little boys didn't get excited about pretty dresses... but Chase wasn't most little boys. The shapeshifter was beaming from ear-to-ear once Mama was set.
>> "Can you run over and see how Jorge and Toby are doing? I'm supposed to meet them in the office, I think, but it's hard to coordinate."
Chase nodded dutifully, now assigned with a very important mission, and ran for the door. In his excitement, he neglected to close it all the way--
>> "How do I look?"
Toby scanned Jorge's outfit and appearance. What did he mean, how did he look? He looked like Jorge in a suit. Toby's expression scrunched a bit-- that probably wasn't what he meant.
"Like a man who's about to be married?" Toby attempted, looking rather abashed about his inability to offer platitudes. They probably hadn't reached that topic in his daily lessons. The boy smiled apologetically.
Chase had seen the direction down which Papa and Toby had gone, so Chase followed that way. Through a closed door, Chase heard the familiar tenor of his doppelganger's voice, and Jorge's steady baritone in response. Bingo. The shapeshifter fumbled with the door, poking his head in through the gap moments after Toby's compliment had fallen flat. Jorge stood with arms open, all like, "Hey, check me out," while Toby seemed a little confused, and perhaps a little sorry.
Chase wriggled in through the door, offering a bright, "Mama's ready!"
Chase bee-lined his brother, nudging him with his elbow, before doing the same to Jorge. It was a way of fist-bumping without skin-to-skin contact.

Jorge
>>"Like a man who's about to be married?"
Jorge smirked. He couldn’t fault Toby for giving him anything but that answer. The boy had a tough life growing up. Part of an insane government agency, trained only to infiltrate and spy, swapping personalities left and right, it was a wonder he was finally starting to warm up to them. Then again, Gemma had a way with kids. She could reach through the muck and pull out that sweet and wonderful child that was yearning to grow and live a good life. Kids deserved that much and Gemma was always willing to do whatever it took to make it happen.
He liked to think he was too. Though he didn’t have nearly the experience that Gemma did, the nature of Jorge’s job, his natural want to help and to protect, made him an equally caring individual. It seemed that whatever they were doing, it was working. There may be moments like this, where Toby didn’t quite understand, but the fact that he was engaging at all, that he had Chase at his side, that Gemma loved him, that Jorge loved him, that was all that mattered in the end.
”Thanks pal,” he smiled sincerely. It was then that door to the bathroom door was shove open to make entrance for an excited and jubilant doppleganger.
>>"Mama's ready!"
Jorge smirked and nodded. He breathed a small breath of relief. He adjusted the last of his clothing, fixing the tie, making sure his cufflinks were straight, and that his jacket was smooth. When all was said and done, he glance at himself in the mirror. This was it...he was actually getting married.
>>"Lookin' sharp, Pops,"
With a look to Chase and Toby, Jorge smiled proudly. He then knelt down in front of the two of them and gave them each a clap on the shoulder and a comforting squeeze; not for too long, he didn’t need their abilities making them uncomfortable.
”Thank you, boys.” For the compliment? For just being there? Honestly it was blanketed ‘thank you’; he was happy they were in his life. After straightening up, he started towards the door, holding it open for them. ”Come on. We’re supposed to meet her in Merle’s office in room 241. Let’s make this family official.”

Gemma waited for a few minutes, making sure that Chase had time to find Jorge and deliver the news. She checked her dress and makeup in a mirror, and smoothed down the last wrinkles. It was not the perfectly crafted look she would have had at a large official wedding, but for an elopement, it had to do. And she was happy, happier than she thought she could be, and everything else was secondary to that.
Once it felt like long enough to Chase to make the trip, she set out for the office. Hopefully she'd meet the rest of her family there. She didn't have flowers, but the dress at least was pretty, and she could not keep a bright smile from her face. She was about to marry the man she'd loved for so long, and almost lost more than once. They had two kids waiting to share the day with them. The rest was just details.
