The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Javier was wondering if he would need to factor the woman's powers into his fabric choices. He couldn't even begin to imagine what kind of fabric would work with an elemental, but it was an important question to ask before he did any work on an outfit.
>>"No problems, I can transform the clothes with me between states. It's how I've lasted this long in heels."
"I've always wondered about the heels" Javier admitted with a small smile "Seemed... like more of a comic book choice."
>>"I understand if you need some time. I did kind of spring this on you. Do you need measurements or...?"
"Yes. Measurements." Javier nodded, jolting out of his musings about fabric. "If you have the time. This way." he motioned her towards the back room of the shop where he did most of his actual work. He still scarcely believed that an actual vigilante would walk in there, out of all places. She seemed nice so far. Not boastful at all. He picked up measuring tape and his notepad, and waited for Maya to get ready for measurements. People didn't really need to undress for any of it, but taking off jackets and scarves and the like usually helped.
"So, apart from range of motion... anything else you'd like from the outfit? Fire resistance, extra protection at joints, things like that...?"
Was there anything else she wanted? Maya was flying by the seat of her pants here as she followed Mr. Javier and stripped out of her coat. "If fire gets close enough to catch my clothes, I'm dead. There's no point in making special allowances for that." Should she be spouting off her weakness so casually? Was that putting Mr. Javier at risk?
Ahhh the vigilante life was troublesome.
"Maybe... something that my son won't be embarrassed to see me in?"
In for a puppy, in for a pound. He may as well know all her weak points. Besides, she would like to at least kind of look cool.
"I thought you might have to take measurements for the pants anyway..." Maya tried to be malleable in case he needed to move an arm or leg. She stood where she was told and did her best to suffer the measurement process. She had asked for it, after all.
Even with the awkward tension between them, deep down Javier was kind of living the dream. He already had many questions about how the costume was supposed to function, and what she needed exactly. It was a challenge, and he only got one shot at getting it right.
>> "If fire gets close enough to catch my clothes, I'm dead. There's no point in making special allowances for that."
Javier blinked. Was she... afraid of fire? Was it a mutation thing, or just...? He did not venture to ask. She got ready for measuring, and he got out his note pad and pencil.
>>"Maybe... something that my son won't be embarrassed to see me in?"
"Got it." Javier chuckled. Skimpy, comic book action heroine costumes were out of the question. Not that he thought she would have gone for that anyway.
>>"I thought you might have to take measurements for the pants anyway..."
"Yeah." Javier nodded, getting to work. Measuring was easy, and he had done it a million times; he could do it with minimal contact, and even though it meant being close to a stranger, it also put him more at ease. "So... you are on active duty, then?" he ventured "I mean, how often... do you have to suit up? Or do you just carry it around, in case?"
Active duty made it sound very... organized. They were not always incredibly organized. Maya might have been happy enough to spill her own secrets, but she didn't want to have people lose faith in the X-men or tarnish their credibility. They might be disorganized, but they still showed up when it mattered most.
"It is in shifts, I guess. I sign up for a shift as often as they let me. Sometimes that's just watching the school grounds so no kiddos sneak out-- which is harder to do than it sounds when the kids have powers, mind you. Sometimes we get calls from the police for backup." Uh. But that wasn't what he'd asked exactly, was it? Maya lifted her arm when he indicated she should. He was very polite and very professional.
"I don't carry it around all the time. I don't wear it under my clothes all the time like the cartoons."
There were a lot more factors to work clothes than fashion, even with mundane occupations. Being a vigilante, MRC sanctioned or otherwise, meant that the outfit had to go through a lot without giving up on its wearer. And in order to make sure he did the best work he could, Javier needed to ask some... specific questions.
>>"It is in shifts, I guess. I sign up for a shift as often as they let me. Sometimes that's just watching the school grounds so no kiddos sneak out-- which is harder to do than it sounds when the kids have powers, mind you. Sometimes we get calls from the police for backup."
Javier nodded. He knew that the X-men watched over Xavier's, and he also knew that the police tended to call them in when the MRC was overwhelmed, or when their specific powers were needed. Which made them more legit than lone wolf vigilantes... but probably also a lot busier. Which, once again, was relevant to the costume.
Javier got to measuring and jotting down numbers.
>>"I don't carry it around all the time. I don't wear it under my clothes all the time like the cartoons."
"Well, that makes it easier" he smirked "Because it probably would not be concealed as easily as in cartoons... I always wondered as a kid how they managed that." Most uniforms would stick out, show through, or, at the very least, would make going to the bathroom really complicated. "So... does that mean that you have to be able to get in and out of the outfit fast and easy?..." he asked, trailing off as he realized that the wording was not... quite right on that one.
> "Because it probably would not be concealed as easily as in cartoons..."
Maya looked down at her button-up shirt. It was a bit loose, as was in fashion. All that showed was skin and the occasional flash of undershirt. If that undershirt was a super suit, how would that change how she dressed?
"Yeah, especially since the material just doesn't breathe the best..."
> "So... does that mean that you have to be able to get in and out of the outfit fast and easy?..."
He had a definite point there. "Yes. Absolutely. I mean, the current one isn't great for that, but it's been years so I guess I just got used to contorting around and squeezing in." Oh how great would that be!
It made sense not to wear the costume under one's normal outfit. For one, it would actually be pretty hard to hide properly, and easy to run into trouble if it got exposed. No secret vigilante wanted that. Not to mention the extra heat of wearing extra layers. But if not worn until needed, then the outfit needed to face another challenge: Being put on at a moment's notice.
>>"Yes. Absolutely. I mean, the current one isn't great for that, but it's been years so I guess I just got used to contorting around and squeezing in."
"That's the thing with body suits" Javier nodded "There is no easy way to put them on; it's either the contorting, or a whole bunch of zippers and buttons no one needs... and if it's not one piece, things slide up and down while... um, physical activity." he thought about it for a moment, tapping his lips with the pen "Okay, so pants, something easy to get into, no heels. How do you feel about belts?"
