The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gwen nodded. He was right - there was still a lot to do in all aspects of equality. Gwen was lucky to have been from a time when liberty and freedom was becoming prosperious for all people. It was unfortunate that it didn't really create liberty until nearly a century later, at least for people of color. She sighed. She had learned about the registration act recently and she couldn't believe that humanity hadn't learned their lesson, "It's surprising to see how much hate and misunderstanding is within the human nature. It's remarkable that people can never learn from their past."
>> I can walk through mirrors... kind of like teleporting. Also, I change into a woman every other day."
She eyed Gawain carefully for a moment. He changed into women? "Oh... That must be, well, difficult. Do you have a different name for when you are a woman?" She really wasn't sure what else to say to that. It was his/her nature to shift into a woman and into a man, so it was a natural thing. It wasn't something she had ever really heard of before. Walking through mirrors was pretty amazing, though. She chuckled, "You would have hated living in my time. Glass was not very common, except for the upper elites." Like herself, to be frank, but she wasn't going to say that.
Gawain was not sure what kind of a reaction to expect from Gwen about the gender shifting. She seemed to take it lightly; it was probably not the strangest mutation she had encountered so far. 19th century morals or not, she did not seem to have anything against a gender-shifter.
>>"Oh... That must be, well, difficult. Do you have a different name for when you are a woman?"
"Yes" Gawain smiled at the completely reasonable question "I'm called Maya on those days."
>>"You would have hated living in my time. Glass was not very common, except for the upper elites."
"Every time has its ups and downs" Gawain nodded. He was not a big believer of the olden days being better (most reenactors, contrary to popular belief, did not believe in that), and he was definitely not of the opinion that the 21st century was perfect so far. Definitely not for mutants... "May I ask what your power is? You don't have to tell if you don't want to."
She ndoded, Maya was a beautiful name, even though the man/woman was unconventional. It would have been terrible for Gawain/Mirror to live in her time. She sighed as she thought about what awful things they probably would have done to him. "Maya is a beautiful name. As is Gawain is a handsome name." She smiled.
>> "May I ask what your power is? You don't have to tell if you don't want to."
She nodded, "Sure. I can see through others eyes and hear, but not as well. I can also whisper into their minds. So, I can see what they see, what they hear, and I can talk to them. However, the whispering kind of makes people freak out. Most of the time they know that the voice is not right in their mind." She chuckled. She sure had messed with some people before.
>>"Maya is a beautiful name. As is Gawain is a handsome name."
Gawai chuckled at that. He liked his names. Mom had chosen them well, and he never regretted having to explain them to anyone. Gwen, on her part, took the whole gender shifting thing in stride. Now Gawain was curious about what her own powers were, and how they might have worked in the historical situation she used to live in...
>>"Sure. I can see through others eyes and hear, but not as well. I can also whisper into their minds. So, I can see what they see, what they hear, and I can talk to them. However, the whispering kind of makes people freak out. Most of the time they know that the voice is not right in their mind."
"Whoa." Gawain blinked, impressed by her abilities "Yeah, I can see how that would freak people out."
Seeing what you saw, hearing what you heard, and talking directly into your head? The woman was a perfect spy. People who found out about what she could do would no doubt trip over themselves to recruit her for all kinds of jobs...
>>"Yeah, I can see how that would freak people out."
She nodded, "Quite. The first person was my father. It actually ended up helping him get some good deals and such with some merchants." It wasn't exactly a fair advantage for the other merchant, but a person had to do what they had to do.
>> "Those are... very useful powers."
She chuckled and shrugged, "I suppose so. They definitely have their perks." She gave him a playful smile, "Not nearly as useful as jumping through mirrors, though." That had to be pretty darn useful. Terrifying idea for her personally, though. What if she got stuck in one? Yikes! "Maybe I'll be able to make more use of it in this time," she shrugged, not entirely sure.
>>"Quite. The first person was my father. It actually ended up helping him get some good deals and such with some merchants."
Oh, so her father knew. And he did not kick her out. For some reason Gawain would have imagined parents reacted worse to mutant kids, back in the last century. Or maybe he just saw how useful her powers were, and decided to take advantage of them? It would have been rude to ask about that. She was right, though, it could be useful. And also a very grey area in terms of industrial espionage...
>>"I suppose so. They definitely have their perks. Not nearly as useful as jumping through mirrors, though... Maybe I'll be able to make more use of it in this time,"
"I am sure you will" Gawain smirked "You should really come visit the Mansion. We can help you with that... and we can also tell you about our experiences with people around the city. There are some groups that use powers for personal gain, and some that are even willing to capture mutants with useful powers. It is good to know about all those to be safe."

She nodded, "I really, really do. You think so?" She did need to go to the mansion at some point, definitely. If anything, to see Gawain again. He could be a great friend. But what did he mean, capture mutants with useful powers? She perked a brow, a concerned look quickly appearing on her face. She didn't realize it but she got quieter, "Someone is kidnapping mutants...?"
