The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Derek, after work at the Mansion, decided that he would head back to the Honeycomb-CO-OP to let Vix out of his room. She had been cooped up in there all day so she demanded that Derek take her out. So he did. Instead of letting her walk behind beside him, Derek scooped her up in his arms and headed to Central Park. But before she left, Derek grabbed the tennis ball from his desk so they could play catch.
The day wasn't the prettiest of days with clouds keeping the Sun's heat from getting down to the citizens of New York City. That was a good thing in Derek's mind. At least he could wear a green sweatshirt and cargo pants and not feel icky and hot. There was even a nice breeze that rustled through the treetops of the park to add to the 76 degree weather. Finding a nice spot, Derek put Vix down onto the grassy ground before throwing the ball. The fox quickly ran after it and once she had it between her jaws, came back to Derek to do it again.
They did this dance for a good five minutes before Vix asked for him to throw it further. Derek complied and when he threw it, he didn't notice that a guy was in the ball's line of movement. The green tennis ball hit the man in the shoulder, causing Derek to gasped loudly.
"I'm so sorry!" He explained, running toward him. "I am so, so, sorry! I didn't mean for the ball to hit you!" Vix, not really caring, grabbed the ball and went behind Derek to sit and rest. "Uh, I-I can buy you an ice cream cone? O-or somethin'?"

Will was milling through the park, hands wedged deep in his pockets. He had just been studying in his apartment, needed to clear his mind, and managed to find his way over to Central Park. Of all the places he could have chosen, he chose the most-crowded, most laden with tourists park in the city. It was almost asking for trouble, particularly when one was an off-duty cop. Couldn't have chosen somewhere quieter, could he?
And what did he get for his troubles? A tennis ball to the clavicle. It rained from somewhere out of the heavens and-- tok! Got him. Just like that.
"The f***?" Will demanded, stepping back to steady himself. It didn't really hurt, but it had surprised him. Eyebrows arched he glanced towards the shouting and the approaching footsteps, a frown on his expression.
"Throwing towards the path wasn't... the best idea," Will said flatly, surveying the boy's-- what the hell was that.
"It's fine," he insisted, holding up a dismissive hand, "You don't have to." He was just a kid after all, "That's... not a dog."

"Y-yeah, I figured that," Derek felt his face become hot when the man stated that throwing the tennis ball toward the path wasn't the best idea, "I do apologize. I didn't see you comin'."
>> "It's fine...You don't have to...That's... not a dog."
Derek looked behind him at the Vix, then back at the man. "...She's part of the Canidae family?" He offered. Vix looked at the man from in between Derek's legs before turning her gaze away to a squirrel that had come down from one of the trees. She obviously didn't care.
"I'm Derek. Derek Menes." He offered the man a hand for him to shake. "Seriously, I can buy you a snow cone or somethin' to make up for it."

Will rubbed his sternum, shaking his head insistently. No, he really didn't need any syrup-dowsed ice-shavings. Too much of that and he'd be one of those fat-*ss officers who could barely fit into their patrol cars. How was that even permissible in their line of work? How the f*** did those guys chase perps? Whatever...
"It's fine," Will insisted. His baby blue's followed the fox as it high-tailed it towards the trees, breathing a sigh.
"I'd be careful about where you take your... canine... out," Will said lightly, "If a cop sees it they'll probably cite you, and take her."
He was off-duty, so there wasn't really much a point in throwing his weight around. It wasn't like the kid was hurting anyo-- well, it wasn't like the fox was hurting anyone.
