The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Natalie figured that with the okay from her to go, Nate would be out of there as quickly as he had come. She had made a fool of herself, after all, and who would want to be around someone after that? She certainly wouldn’t blame him. She didn’t exactly enjoy spending time around people when they broke down like that; especially when it was over little things like their daughter forgetting a teddy bear. She should have been stronger.
She should have proven that she was all the things that she believed herself to be: strong, capable, independent, and tough as nails. When she’d cried into the shoulder of a man, she’d torn down all of those images and replaced them with some meek caricature of the woman she had worked so hard to be. Natalie hated everything that it made her seem to be. If she didn’t have to look at Nate for a while after that, she wouldn’t mind.
Instead of leaving, though, he inquired about whether or not he would be as welcome to stay as he was to leave. Natalie looked up, her eyes narrowed, as she lowered her wine glass. The hand on her cheek was… well, she didn’t quite know how to feel about it, but it was sending shivers down her spine. She met his eyes for a brief second before she shrugged and looked back at her glass.
”I suppose so,” she replied, trying to sound indifferent. ”There’s nothing stopping you.” As much as it was awkward and she felt uncomfortable with the way she’d just acted, she didn’t mind the idea of company for a while. Being alone that night probably wasn’t the greatest idea she’d ever had.
Nate was not sure he could pin down the word to describe how Natalie was making him feel. She had shared a moment of true vulnerability with him and, in that moment, he felt a greater sense of closeness. She opened herself to him and he could see that there was more to see behind the wall she used to keep people at a distance.
All he got was a glimpse of the woman, beyond her defensive nature and her frigidity, before the wall was back up. Nate knew Natalie was fiercely independent, and he really respected that about her, but “independent” did not have to mean “alone.” Sadly, it felt like Nat strived to be alone. She could have Nate around for company, but she fought so hard to make it clear she could take him or leave him. All he wanted to hear was the confirmation that she wanted him to stay, but she was creating distance between them that had been absent all night.
Frustrated. That was probably the best way to describe what it was like to come so close to a genuine, unguarded connection, only to end up further away than where they started. The disappointment almost compelled Nate to leave, since she seemed not to care one way or another. He finally settled on the decision to stay; he still wanted to be around Nat, despite all logic. ”Then I guess I’ll stay. You know, if there’s nothing stopping me.”
Nate pulled his hand away from Natalie’s cheek, focusing on the wine glass in his hand. He would take his seat back on the couch and follow her lead for the rest of the night. It was her house and she was in control; Nate was just there on a whim and along for the ride.
