The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Having someone there, someone who not only you didn't want to disappoint but was genuinely pushing you to do your best, felt great. Cait was fairly sure it was the only way she actually managed to get the last push done to lock off the weights which was kind of awesome. Another score for positivity. Soon the grumps at the base wouldn't be able to compete with her.
Taking the offered hand and slowly standing, it was easier once she was up. Kind of. The legs still felt like she hadn't been on land for a few weeks, but that would pass soon right? "Thanks Rianne, I'd have been there all day otherwise."
OK, so sprints weren't her favourite but she wasn't awful at them. Anyone with decent fitness and used to moving a lot could do fairly OK at them. Of course the prospect of breakfast was very appealing afterwards so all she had to do was power through, collapse at the end then crawl off for breakfast. Something sweet definitely. Oh God and so much coffee.
It didn't sound too hard but from experience it wasn't as easy as all that. Sprinting for a solid minute was tough and doing it multiple times in a short time frame sucked. To much practice doing this running away from bad guys.....and cops. Which she wasn't mentioning to her nice and lovely officer friend. Ever. "Pretty simple then. should be doable. I hope."
Nodding that she was ready for the last stretch, at least her legs were back to full functionality. Launching into motion as soon as the shout was given, she didn't do too bad. It wasn't a competition so seeing Rianne pulling ahead a little more and more didn't get her down, all she did was keep her head in it.
Imagining she was getting chased by one of the various nastier mutants she'd dealt with certainly kept the pace up, if made her just a little tense.
As soon as the timer went off she slowed to a stop and took a few nice deep breaths. "I can totally see why you told me not to eat before. I'd have thrown up a couple of times already today if I had." The bad mix that was a full stomach and exercise was a mistaken she'd only made once. Cleaning sick off your trainers sent a pretty solid message.
The pair of them sprinted back and forth. Rianne slowly peeled away from Cait. When the minute was up she hadn’t lapped Cait, she was about half way to doing so. ”Okay, two minute rest.” Rianne said once she had stopped.
”I had to learn it the hard way.” She admitted. ”You only make that mistake once.” Blessedly she was close to a trash can when it had happened. Wiping her face had been the only requisite cleanup.
With just under two minutes to wait, a little heavy breathing conversation was in order. Otherwise they’d just stand there silently. ”I never asked, what brought you to New York?”
Rianne kept moving as she asked. Stepping, twisting at the hips, and moving her arms around. She wanted to keep her heart rate up and blood flowing while she rested for the next sprint.
Only two minutes rest! God she was falling apart already, doing more was going to kill her. Maybe that's what Rianne wanted, she was secretly evil and enjoyed breaking poor young women.
Although, she did warn her about not eating. Maybe she wasn't totally evil, just a little bit. "I bet, it's not an experience I would want to go through. Had way to much of that when I started drinking." Totally hadn't been before the legal age either. At all.
"Oh, I've actually lived here since I was really young. My dad got a job offer at one of the big hospitals and he figured it was a good opportunity." Rather than living on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere, she'd grown up in one of the major cities of the world. Seemed like a fair trade to her. Still, Scotland was home, no matter what. Some things her dad had drilled into her.
"Thanks to my parents I have the accent and they made sure I could speak Gaelic too. It's actually kind of my first language." From what she'd heard her parents had more than one fight about that. Her dad was kind of traditional about the whole thing. "What about you, how long you been in the city?"
”I may have had the same experience a few times back in college.” Getting drunk enough to throw up was a right of passage. Especially on ring day at Texas A&M. ”When I got my ring I dropped it in a pitcher of Shiner and had to drain the whole thing in one go to get the ring.” Made a nice container too, nothing hit the floor.
Cait explained she was brought Stateside when her dad got a job at a hospital. What was really intersting was that her parents had taught her Gaelic. ”I’ve heard a lot of languages since moving here. Can’t say I’ve heard much Gaelic.”
”I moved here in high school. Parents decided to move her after I happened to see a kid right in front of me get stabbed at school. They had been holding off moving here for work so I wouldn’t have to change schools. That convinced them to just move. I went back to Texas for college then got into the NYPD police academy so I returned to New York.”
Rianne checked the time. ”Round two.” She got into position and on, ”Go!” tore off again into a sprint.

Grinning she was always happy she got mostly positive reactions. "Yeah, not quite a normal one for people to hear to be honest. Few enough of us back home that most in the UK haven't heard it spoken." True shame too, in her opinion it was beautiful to listen to. All soft sounds and a musical lilt to it. "Just don't get me too drunk on my birthday or it's all I can talk in."
Well, that was one hell of a reason to move. God if it was her she'd freakout seeing something like that in school. Or on the street at that age frankly. "Wow, yeah. That'd do it I guess. But it's cool to know you got to go back there to study." What did a NYPD officer study at uni? Was there a degree for that like criminal law or something? "What'd you do at uni by the way? Always love finding out what people like to learn about."
Cait wasn't an academic by any stretch but that didn't mean she hated learning new stuff. Quite the opposite and she'd have gotten nowhere as a musician if she did.
Groaning and getting ready, she was off at the signal going full tilt. It killed and God she just wanted food but if she was here, she was doing this right. Plus while it was a brutal workout, it was blessedly short compared to her usual sparring sessions with Combatant so that was good. And she was at least doing alright when compared to someone as fit as Rianne so all her work was clearly paying off.
Now she just needed someone to tell that to her lungs.
