The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sarah loved her job. She really did. She had access to far more information than she had as a simple librarian. Which is a strange thought as she used to think libraries held all knowledge. Now she knew better. The best knowledge is hidden. The brunette would find the most interesting tidbits while working. There were a few things that could be better, but that was every job really.
Right now: distance was a problem.
Though that might be because of the freak snowstorm outside for the last few blocks to work. It didn't look like it was centered around her building. Which probably meant it wasn't Tempest. Then again, he could be the reason for the several inches of snow covering the sidewalk.
It had been a great day to wear strappy heels. Before she got here at least.
Shaking her hair once inside the building, she frowned as her curls started to fall due to the humidity and melting snow. Looking around, it looked like a few others were surprised by the storm. Still, best to check with the boss.
Moving helped warm her up at least. And she knew she had a blanket stored in her desk. Though her wet clothes and hair were just going to have to air dry. There were whispers going around. Most asking each other if the storm was their resident atmokinetic.
Rolling her eyes as she walked into Devon's office, not really paying attention to the man. "I certainly hope it was another person who controls weather making me cold. You know how much I hate getting my feet cold. And wet, for that matter."
Devon’s back was to Sarah as she strolled in. Three fingers of bourbon were in the glass on the desk. The single ice cube had long since melted. He was staring out over the city from the windows, floor to ceiling windows. He might have to work indoors but that didn’t mean he couldn’t keep the view of the sky.
“It’s supposed to be warm outside,” he said quickly, a strange warble to his tone.
Turning around his eyes were blue, though that didn’t mean he hadn’t churned up a storm over the course of minutes, encouraged the cold for an hour, and was keeping it going every so often. But a snow storm in mid-June? That was irregular, unnatural even.
And Devon could feel it.
It wasn’t like that feeling when you thought you were dreaming. It wasn’t like hitting your funny bone, your foot being asleep, or walking in on your parents doing it. No. It was like utterly disbelieving your senses, trapped in some virtual reality falsehood that threatened to challenge your sanity. It was gas lighting but you saw it, you knew it. You could see it.
Devon shook his head. “Tell me you’ve got some information on what’s happening,” he said, sounding only too sober. The words came off more like a question as he walked toward his desk and gestured her to a seat. “It’s not just the weather. There’s been hours… early sunsets, strange sunrises.”

She paused a bit at the seriousness Devon had. Rare though it was, she knew he could actually be the CEO he was on paper. He wasn't just a partier. She really had expected to find him in a mood. Instead she finds him as confused as her.
Looking through her mental archive of strange happenings, Sarah tried to gather something to give him. A few things stood out, but really she wasn't sure what to look for.
"Depending on what you're looking for, I have a few things from local papers," the woman commented as she sat. She made a habit of gathering the news every day. It kept her up to date on most things. And she didn't actually have to read the stupid things.
"There's been a noticed upset with the weather all around New York," her eyes glazed over as she looked deeper. "Phones have been thought to be malfunctioning and showing wrong time zones. A few people have commented about days going by extra fast or extremely slow. Something about local pets acting odd. All for the past few months.
>> "Depending on what you're looking for, I have a few things from local papers,"
Devon nodded expectantly and sat down as Sarah did. He knew she worked harder than most in this company so he’d never seek to yell at her. He still didn’t appreciate her joke or the tone. Problem is she was right: whoever had done this was seriously dangerous. What really bothered him is she likely thought him capable of this. Did he seem that chaotic, truly that messed up to conjure snow this close to summer?
He leaned back as she recounted a few problems. Bad weather all of the city wasn’t terribly surprising considering spring storms, but how much of it was like this? Like Snow? It wasn’t simply the weather though. Messed up phones and time zones? That sounded electrical. Days going too fast or too slow… Out of sort pets…
His eyes widened noticeably.
>> "What're you thinking?"
“Time,” Devon said softly. “Snow out of time. Phones acting like it’s a different timezone. Days and nights gone haywire. Pets out of whack…” That crazy trip he had two days ago… “Someone is playing with time. We need to figure out if there’s a mutant doing this. Maybe it’s a new emergence, or maybe it’s an experiment with a captured mutant…”
“Either way, we need to track this down. I’ll reach out to my contacts. I’ll make sure those that know about me know this isn’t me too,” Devon nodded slowly. “Have you heard where it might be concentrated around? That’d be good to know. Is it just the city?”

Time? That could be... really good or really, really bad. But now she had a better description for what to look for. Sifting through her mental archives to reorder things was always tedious, but it needed to be done.
Time. Didn't they have enough to deal with? Either renegade mutant or idiots experimenting. Sarah could only hope it was the former. So much easier to help someone learn than to rescue.
"Give me a moment," she said in response to Devon's questions, "I'm reorganizing."
And going back further to see how long this was going on. She had initially only gone back a month, but better safe than sorry. Sarah found pieces all the way back to May. Maybe even further but that would be harder to access.
"If it's an emergence, it's been a slow process since at least May," she informed him. "Most seem to be near Madison Square Park. That would be an odd place for someone to capture and experiment, right?" Keeping her own mutation hidden made it hard for Sarah to be sure. But such a heavily populated area would be strange by common sense.
>> "If it's an emergence, it's been a slow process since at least May,"
Devon nodded slowly. It’s possible a mutant was in some sort of slow build to his true power, but that power was going to be dangerous to everyone. Useful, but dangerous. If it was a mutant in holding, then they were going to need to get him or her out fast. They wouldn’t be able to handle a government that could manipulate time.
>> “… That would be an odd place for someone to capture and experiment, right?”
“Yes,” Devon nodded again, leaning back in his chair. “Yet clearly we don’t know of any government facility there. Might be a secret location. Could be a mutant that simply lives there. A homeless mutant?” he shrugged. “But that gives us a location to watch at least.”
A wide smile spread across his lips, “Nicely done Sarah. Let’s put some eyes on the park. I’ll see what sort of legitimate activity is going on there and if anything strange has been registered with the police or the mayor’s office.” He chuckled, “We can’t be the only ones wondering what the hell is going on!” He yawned and chuckled again, “Let alone they don’t have me to blame hm?” A smirk spread across his face as he eyed Sarah across from him.
“Let’s be careful though. Don’t want to over extend our hand. I’ll inform the Syndicate as well.”
